Opinions de Sweet Chive Austin
The fried dumplings were incredible. The hot oil and dumpling sauce were so good I took home a jar.
Hard to find a decent place to eat a few Taiwanese dishes. Ordered a bunch of dishes to try and wasn’t disappointed. We liked their Jian Bao (pork buns), chili oil wonton, chive pocket, shrimp tempura, and chicken nuggets. Good flavor, not too doughy where it shouldn’t. Service was warm and friendly. The murals inside were beautiful. Give it a try and see for yourself!
One of our favorite spots on the East Side! We service many of your neighbor's grease traps. Would love to get you a quote.
On another work trip and one thing great about business trips, you can try out restaurants. I visited this restaurant because after my long drive from Houston, I was craving some dumplings. I remembered I had dumplings in Portland, OR and wanted to savor buns in my mouth with sauce to dip them in. I was ready!! The restaurant is located in Old East Austin near Juiceland. About 10 minutes from Tru Hotel near the airport. Thankfully, there was a small parking lot with tight parking spaces. When I walked inside the very cold temperature of a restaurant, I was immediately told with a smile to sit anywhere. I of course, sat at a small table as it was only me dining in. There was one other person with a child dining too, so the dining area was fairly quiet. The crowd didn't come until after 6:00 PM as I was leaving. I ordered the vegan dumplings, a winter melon drink, and a scallion pancake appetizer (vegan). The appetizer and drink came out first. The drink came out in a Shiner glass. I wasn't sure if it was alcoholic or not; so that was confusing. I don't drink alcohol anymore for health reasons. Graciously, the drink didn't give me a spike. The drink was very sweet, but refreshing. I was given a side water. I liked winter melon drink as I've never had that before, but no refills. Next time, I'll try a hot tea. The scallion pancake was very tasty. That within itself could have been a meal. I took me back to the days when I attended an Korean Christian church and at break, they served scallion pancake. I miss those days to be honest. The batter was crispy, but not gummy, but chewy. The dipping sauce was divine and within itself could have been a salty drink. Haha!! I wanted to gobble it up, but I waited until the final meal of dumplings arrived. Surprisingly, the dumpings were absolutely a stunner of deliciousness. Omg, as I was eating it, I thought to myself, these taste so much better than the dumplings I had in Portland. The dumplings at Sweet Chive was packed with so much flavor and the filling was stuffed, but not the point of falling out. The wrapper was neatly formed with slight crisp, the filling well seasoned of what appeared to be tofu and vegetables, and this dipping sauce was the same for the pancake. I honestly wanted to ask them to jar that up for me to take home. I loved my meal and so badly wanted seconds, but having recently lost 10 lbs I just couldn't chance it. I'm for sure going to add this Taiwanese restaurant to my list of favorites of Austin. Funny thing, I lived in Austin for a year and having to never visited this place, but frequently went to the Juiceland across the way. Anyways, the staff was friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations on the winter melon drink. I'll be back once I'm in Austin again. I slept like a baby because Sweet Chive made that possible. Keep whipping up solid good food!
Very good food at a decent price for a casual hangout. The service is great and the staff explained everything on the menu really well. We tried the chili wontons and cilantro-made-me-do-it sushi and both were great. Would definitely recommend trying their food.
Food is always consistently a 10/10 and the staff is so friendly. John always makes us feel so welcome and you can tell everyone is very proud and passionate of their craft. Spicy chili wontons are a must, the baio wontons are incredible, and seriously try it all!
Sweet Chive is my new favorite Asian spot in town. The food is fresh and you can tell so much effort is put into each meal. The sushi was bomb, the cold noodles were balanced and light but still savory. The dumplings were cooked perfectly with some flavorful pork. We ordered 2 rolls, dumplings, noodles, and shrimp chips between 2 people and paid around $72 not including tip. Thank you for having us!
Wow this place is special! You can taste the love in the food. This level of attention to detail takes time though so please be patient and enjoy the ambiance with a good conversation and some team or miso soup. We got the chef choice sushi sampler - everything was delicious but the salmon was my personal favorite. It just melts in your mouth like warm butter! For sushi rolls we got the ‘cilantro made me do it’ and ‘apple bottom jeans’ and they were the perfect two rolls to contrast sushi expertise. The cilantro roll was a little spicy (from the togarashi) with loads of flavor in the yellowtail! The apple roll was sweet and savory with the shrimp and tuna. All in all I loved this experience. One of my favorites for sushi in Austin!!
This is the best restaurant in the world! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu ~ it is all excellent! Amazing comforting food. Down to Earth & welcoming owner & staff.
Y'ALL if you ever want to have the most flavorful, beautifully plated and high quality sushi (and homemade dumplings / Taiwanese food) by a wonderful eco conscious small business please please do yourself a favor and check out Sweet Chive The Japanese sushi chef has been making sushi for 40 years and it shows PLUS Collin, the server, gave the best recs and is so attentive but also you can't go wrong here
DELICIOUS! This cozy family-owned restaurant has amazing food, a calm ambiance, a friendly environment, and fresh sushi! It is off Cesar Chavez, where you usually need to make reservations. We walked in with 6+ people, and they seated us immediately. I would recommend spicy wontons, chili noodles (on a hot day), a cilantro-made-me-do-it roll, and scallion sliders.
One of my favorite spots. The food is fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is intimate and casual, the staff make you feel like family!
They just had their soft open this past week, and although they are working out some logistics the food is amazing and I am 100% confident they will sort the details out. I had the pan fried pork dumplings (perfect texture and omg their unique dipping sauce is amazing), the beef noodle soup (amazingly tender and filling), and the matcha coconut pie (great dessert, a little bitter & a little sweet). I also tried the kim chi, which was spicy but delicious, and a pot of one of their teas. They are still getting off the ground, but the quality of the cuisine and the dedication of the owner are indisputable. So excited for the grand opening, I’ll definitely be there!
Good place but limited food options The baos are amazing definitely recommend We also had the beef noodle soup and it was okay. The noodles felt a bit too soggy but the broth was good. I wish they had the ramen spoons instead of the normal spoons, its easier to eat from the bowl that way
Swear to you, just get all the hand made dumplings! I love my bao bun steam so just get that. The Jian Pork Bao, is insanely good! This is coming from the guy who has been to Taiwan. Yes can confirm this is on par with the one in Asia.
I usually order to go but came in to eat this time and our server Kaylee was amazing! The food was great as always (get the spicy chili wontons) and we’ll be back to dine in soon!
Hands down one of my fav spots in the city. The spicy beef noodle soup is amazing and you can’t go wrong no matter which dumplings you choose to eat
Awesome staff and service. Loved that I could ask questions about all the different items and they were happy to explain and offer suggestions! This was my second visit. 1st visit I split the pan fried pork dumplings and the pork noodle dish with 1 other person and it was the perfect amount. I wish I could remember the name of the pork noodle dish (ground pork, with julienne vegetables). It was delicious. highly recommend. 2nd visit pictures below. Beef shank broth noodles were great. If you prefer some heat or a little spiciness, definitely get the added chili oil paste. It added a little extra flavor. The pork dumplings below were also great. I think they were called Jiaozi Dumplings. All their dessert are awesome. If they have the Macha coconut pie. It is a must! Definitely try it! The ginger moon-pie cookie is also great.
Wow! What a hidden gem! You will never want to eat Asian cuisine anywhere else. We ordered a good assortment of things, and every single thing we ate was our favorite! Home-cooked and absolutely delicious!!! Relaxed environment and super friendly staff. The lady who owns it/is the chef is amazing, and cooks with a ton of pride and love! Can’t wait to come back!
Stumbled into this small cozy restaurant while we were looking for another spot that was recently closed. They have staggered hours and take a 2 hour break from lunch to dinner we made it in around 1:30, they have two menus. sushi on one and hot dishes on the other. We tried a little on both and were pleased with everything we tried. The recommend sushi roll "Holly Hood" was amazing. We will be coming back.
Sweet Chive has three menus - a Taiwanese menu, a Japanese menu, and a drink menu. I highly recommend anything off the Taiwanese menu as the owner is Taiwanese, but you can’t go wrong with anything here. My favorite dish was the Spicy Chili Wontons, the chili oil they are served in is amazing. The Pork Jian Jious are crispy with flavorful and soft pork on the inside. I also got the Beef Noodle Soup while my friend got the Pork Belly Noodles. Both were great main dishes with tender meat and excellent broth. I would love if they had spicy options of these (maybe they do, I didn't ask), but I just love everything having some spice. If you don't get the spicy chili wontons, get a side of their chili oil (currently for $1) as it goes with almost any dish and is delicious. Highly recommend this place and will be back multiple times!
Wow. This place is absolutely amazing! My dinner was so incredibly good, I was so sad when I’d finished it all. The portion was perfect, and you MUST get the house made chili oil. So. Damn. Good, y’all. Everything was fresh and tasty, and made with care. I could tell I was eating quality food, and didn’t have to feel guilty because they used minimal seasoning and managed incredible flavor. The staff was extremely helpful, as I had at least a million questions. I will definitely be coming back here and recommending to friends and family. There is street parking and a small parking lot behind the building. The location is perfect. The place was very clean and had a nice vibe. Calm yet hip music, and a very modern look and feel. I am beyond impressed. I ordered take out, and I can’t wait to come in for a sit down dining experience. Please try this place. They have sushi as well that looked incredibly delicious. I am in love! Must try!
Went here about a year ago and it was amazing best dumplings I have had. Everytime I go out of town we try to find a dumpling place and we have been to many across Texas and in Nashville but this is the best we have had so far. Amazing place! 1. Pork Jian Bao 2. Jian Jiou Pork 3. Spicy Chili Wontons (we used the remaining chili oil for dipping) 4. Pork Pan Fried Dumplings 5. Pancake Sliders (friends got this and loved it) 6. Steamed Wagyu Beef Dumplings
This place is amazing! I’ve been coming for years. The food is scratch made with love. It is a family spot run by an amazing woman who cares about the quality of the food and people’s experience. The decor is cute. The atmosphere is delightful. 10/10 would recommend! Bonus - they’re open late which is rare in Austin.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We were staying in the neighborhood during our short trip to Austin and found Sweet Chive on Google maps. The unique menu with a wide array of options made choosing our plates very enjoyable. The service was excellent! Highly recommend. The food was so delicious I couldn't get a before picture!
Delish! Tried several items that I can't remember the names of now lol, but 5/5 on all of them. Great service, plus ate a late lunch on a Saturday and there was no wait. And the restaurant has the best vibes, love the ambiance!
Looking for a late night Asian dinner (夜宵)by 10pm after flight landing, and decided to try this Taiwanese restaurant due to the appealing picture of spicy wonton and 生煎包 in Google map. OMG, it didn’t disappoint me! And I love the chilling atmosphere and how chatting the waiter is . ( Forgot his name -_-) Not sure if parking would be easy during daytime , but this will be my must -stop restaurant in Austin for future trips. Check it out!
Came down here to drop off a client and decided to go ahead and decided to eat in while down here in Austin. Very clean and a good up-vibe/poppy music and the Sushi rolls that I got were absolutely amazing and so was the desert! 💯 Thank y'all for such a wonderful experience! 👍
My group had a great experience at Sweet Chive! Our waitress Tina went above and beyond to accommodate an allergy in our group, and was very friendly and helpful. I got the Gaby roll and it was delicious. The Serrano pepper slices on top added a really nice spice to the roll which would have already been great on its own. The scallion pancakes were delicious as well. All around great experience and would definitely go back!
The food was absolutely amazing. I definitely recommend you look at the menu on the QR code because it has pictures of all the food. I really appreciated the recommendations from the server the food was prepared not too fast, and not too slow. This place is still somewhat undiscovered, so get here before people find out about it. It's in a great area of Austin. I don't know how it's not absolutely packed everyday.
Soooo good & open later then most Asian spots! Definitely worth it! Lots of menu options, clean environment & knowledgeable staff Gabriel is great ask for him. I was also greeted by the owner Phoenix super sweet & cares abt her customers experience. I’ll definitely be back to try more sushi options & the spicy cucumber noodles. 🍜 **Also the Asian nachos were an amazing appetizer.
Making a choice for food in Austin is not easy... Sweet Chive won us over with menu choice, location, and overall good vibe. We had appetizers, tea, and a full choice of entree to match each of our needs. Overall wonderful experience.. I will be returning to try some of the menu items that caught my eye. Look at the picture of the little snail the chef made from Wasabi and avocado pit.. such amazing display.
I had a really nice time stopping by sweet chive. I got the pork jian bao it was very delicious and the spicy chilli wonton was flavorful with warm sake on the side is soothing as well. Staff have genuine hospitality making you feel at home thanks y'all keep it up.
I had a great time at Sweet Chive! I ordered pancake sliders and spicy chili wontons. I must say that they were beyond my expectations! The pork belly in the pancake sliders were tasty, very soft and the flavor was delicious. The chili oil and sauce for the wontons were also very good, better than a lot of Asian restaurants in Austin. Being Taiwanese, this restaurant brought me back home a bit. Will definitely visit again soon. One other good thing is that they have parking lots right next to them! Great location and the inside design and decor were cute and comfortable.
Best food I've had in months. Had the beef fried dumplings and pork fried dumplings they were amazing! Hot chili oil amazing. You gotta check out this spot in Austin.
Found this gem while in town for an event and was not disappointed. The spicy chili wontons were amazing and my favorite. Just barely above the jian bao. The staff was friendly, helpful, and chill. The chef/owner wants to give people the experience of eating Taiwanese food they group up eating, feed their family, and like one would from a Taiwanese mother. The care and love shows on the food and it makes me wish I could spend more time in Austin.
First time visiting Sweet Chive and absolutely loved it! Seems like you really can’t go wrong with anything you get here. The Pork Bao was probably the best I’ve had, amazing flavor! Highly recommend the Holly Hood sushi roll the smoky flavor makes this roll so unique! 1000% recommend and would come here again! Service was 10/10 too- everyone is so friendly and our server had great recommendations!
They have gluten free options! If you're very gluten sensitive, there are 2 options and if you can tolerate soy, then a lot of their menu opens up including these yummy chilled noodles with cucumber! I wouldn't recommend for someone who is celiac, but if you're gluten free and soy sauce doesn't bother you, this is a great spot!
Ever feeling home sick ,and need a heart warming meal, you found the place. Always enjoy the conversations with the servers especially Collin, he always has great recommendations as well.
We absolutely loved this place! The food was phenomenal- the pancake sliders were our favorite and the milk tea actually tasted like tea, not just milk and sugar. I could’ve sat there all day because the atmosphere is very pleasant with nice music, an elegant mural, and a lovely view. Our server was also friendly and attentive, hearing one of us drop a chopstick and being ready with a fresh pair. A big bonus is the parking lot out back which isn’t a guarantee in that area. I’m so glad we went here and we would absolutely go back!
First time visiting. They have been on my radar for a while amd so glad we finally visited! They have a Taiwanese menu and flip over to see the Chinese menu with sushi, ext. We had to try the green onion pancakes and they were OK, but we also had one of their sushi rolls and it took a while to come out, but it was.... AMAZING! So fresh and flavorful, I cant wait to come back n try more! For entree we got the beef someone and pork belly n noodles, both full of flavor, and fresh ingredients. The beef did have some chewy parts and my partner said the noodles were a bit salty, but thats just his preference (he never uses salt in his cooking). Atmosphere was so cozy and some art they have on walls are for sale and has artist IG handles, love that as im an artist myself! Plus size inclusiveness also gets 5 stars. They have tables with movable benches and tables with chairs as well. And of course prices was very affordable for the quality of the food!
The food is really great, they have such a variety of options but the service, the employees, everyone is what makes this restaurant even better! I had an issue with a transaction through Toast which was absolutely no fault of restaurants themselves but they addressed it, communicated throughly, and resolved it quickly. Each person there Ive interacted with have been kind and professional. They deserve to be supported! Go get some amazing food and support a really authentic great local business!
I absolutely love small, intimate, family owned spots like this. So I wanted to support this establishment knowing it's places like these that keep Austin fun and genuine! You can tell everything is made with love here and with fresh ingredients. It's a small place so it can get busy fast on the weekends but well worth! What a special place to have on the East Side! Top favorites, so far are the Pork belly sliders and the yellow tail sushi! So GOOOD!
Visited Sweet Chive 12/27 and it was everything I had hoped for. Delicious Taiwanese dishes and great service. We tried chili wontons, scallion pancakes, veggie egg rolls, and stuffed eggplant (personal favorite.) For entrees, we had pork zhajiangmian and beef chow mein. Highly recommend this spot. Reminded me of Win Son in Brooklyn NY - my favorite Taiwanese restaurant. Very fair pricing and polite server who knew the menu well.
Sweet Chive (of mine); SORRY had to do it...lol Went to Christmas 2025 lunch here with a friend. Great service, food was off the charts. A bit tangy (spicy) for me but no complaints, just delicious. Portions were generous too. Casual to fancy, if you want. Would be a great place for date night or during the day....
Can't recommend Sweet Chive enough! The entire team is so kind, helpful, and warm. I've eaten at SC numerous times and each experience is better than the last! The owner is one of the kindest people I've met. Perfect spot for a date, a cozy friend hang, or a solo dinner to treat yourself (:
The one in the bowl, the SPICY WONTON (the one in the bowl) was literally THE BEST I've ever had and I've had some all across the country. The dumplings and their sauce is superb as well but MY GOD, I CAN'T GET ENOUGH of that spicy wonton dish. 1000% RECOMMEND. My taste buds were bursting with euphoria on every bite.
The BEST sushi for a casual dinner, cozy vibes that are chill (not influencer ruined with crowds). The atmosphere is casual but warm like a coffee shop, and the sushi is better than any of the more high-end typical suspects (uchi and co.). The Hollyhood roll is unbelievable. Spicy chili wontons are the owners homemade family recipe and you can actually by the chili crisps in oil from them by the mason jar. And the eggplant stuff with pork is insane good.
Modern looking restaurant with free parking. Very specialized Taiwanese menu with a lot of choices to choose from. Out of the dishes that we ordered, the pork jian jiou & the pork belly with purple rice stood out to me the most. The pork jian jiou was dough was crispy and airy at the same time. The pork belly was super tender and the purple rice had a fun chew to it. All dishes were very shareable and a good place for a quick bite to eat. Friendly staff and the owner had time to come out and greet her customers.
This little gem is truly something special! 🌟 A small, family-owned restaurant with a Taiwanese-inspired menu with hints of Japanese influence, it’s clear that every dish is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and a whole lot of care. The food is both flavorful and nourishing — you can really taste the difference in every bite. The staff are so kind and welcoming, treating you more like a guest in their home than just another customer. The atmosphere is clean, warm, and inviting, making it the kind of place you want to linger and enjoy. We finished our food and then just sat to talk, spoke with the family/staff about the artwork on the walls being from children in the local school district. One thing I especially love is their commitment to being eco-conscious — they offer 10% off if you order takeout and bring your own containers! It’s so refreshing to see a business not only serving up incredible food but also caring about the community and the environment. I envision being a little under the weather, needing soup and bringing my bowl to mom’s kitchen. My partner enjoyed the food and the beer selection, apparently Sapporo is a very popular beer where he was stationed in Korea and seeing it here brought him joy and made his meal feel complete. Highly recommend to anyone who loves fresh, thoughtfully prepared meals and wants to support a family business that pours their heart into everything they do.
A friend recommended this restaurant as delicious, open late, and dog friendly! It surpassed expectations! Only one small table outside on front stoop for outdoor (dog friendly) dining. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and attentive. Yes, they provided a water dish for the dog! The food was excellent - I had the beef clay pot, such delicious flavor combination! I asked the server to surprise me with her favorite style of dumplings, they were a combination of soft and crunchy! The chilled spicy noodles with cucumber and chicken tasted even better after the flavors marinated for a couple days (in my fridge)! I can’t wait to go back and try more of their dumpling styles and other menu items! The server/bar tender/cashier Raven was super nice, friendly, knowledgeable, and speedy with her service! Compliments to the chefs!
I was in town for a conference downtown and stopped in for dinner. Very clean and welcoming atmosphere. Had the beef noodle soup which was outstanding. You could tell it was made with care and well seasoned. Enjoyed it so much, I stopped in again for lunch on my way to the airport. Had the beef clay pot dish and it, too, was awesome. Very fresh with high quality ingredients. I don’t write many reviews but happy to write this. The food was great, owners friendly and welcoming. It is a small, family-run business that is definitely worth the trip!
i won’t lie, i was craving one thing, spicy chili wontons…and sweet chive absolutely delivered! but then i ordered other things and they just kept knocking it out of the park. their cucumber cold noodles were perfect, and the scallion pancakes were cooked to perfection. the service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was clean. definitely will be back to try the other items on the menu!
Delicious! They claim Japanese and Taiwanese, but it’s kind of an Asian varietal! The handmade dumplings and wontons are ridiculously delicious. The sushi is fresh and tasty. The beef claypot was good but it had very little beef only 6 pieces with lots of carrots and mushrooms. Our service was awesome. I can’t wait to go back. The prices were reasonable for the quality.
Staff is super friendly and gave great food recommendations. I had the spicy chili wontons (they use steamed vegan dumplings) along with the flowering chives with Tofu. Both were delicious. The tea was a warm touch to my evening as I chowed down and read. I connected with the staff as they were also talking about the book as I walked in. I would recommend checking this place out. Vegan and Vegetarian friendly.
Been meaning to try this place and wasn't disappointed. Everything we ate had great flavor. The service was very friendly and attentive. They even offered to lower or change the music when my boyfriend got a headache. Very considerate. They even made me a little avocado snail for my sushi roll plate. :) Love the murals on the walls too. Would come back to try more of the food.
Food is excellent, but several times I've been here at normal peak hours and they had an extremely noticeable back up, both from service/table check-ins and the kitchen output speed. Hopefully they can figure out a way to get a bit more hustle going... It doesn't feel like they can handle more than a few tables right now. They don't seem to have capacity to check on tables and ask them if they want another drink while they wait an hour, or more, for some dumplings or sushi. I want to support this as a locally/non-corporate owned business, so I hope they can improve this.
I ordered the beef noodle soup and was very disappointed. The broth was very salty and not good, tasted like watered down soy sauce. The chili sauce had no taste at all. The noodle tasted like store bought dry noodle, not hand pulled like other Asian restaurants. There were only 4 tiny slices of beef and 2 pieces of bok choy but I paid close to $17 on DoorDash. There are so many more noodle places than this that are much better and cheaper in town.
We followed an influencer here and had high hopes because of the good reviews. It turns out a bit disappointing. The food all tasted just ok. The noodles were subpar. There might be too much msg in the food because we were both abnormally thirsty and had headache after the meal. (Note that we're both Asians and have tolerance to msg) I feel bad leaving this review because the service was great and the owners are very nice.
This felt like a college cafeteria experience at best. We waited for 45 minutes for any sort of food to show up at our table. I was about to get up and leave, but at that point - I was just hungry and frustrated. Food is okay. Not worth the wait. Lighting is too bright, servers are borderline rude and extremely chaotic. Kept running around apologizing for forgetting someone’s order or promising that the food will be “right out”. My patience runs out. So does everyone else’s at that restaurant it seems. Don’t recommend!
This restaurant tries to have a mix of unique and staple dishes. I feel like I just ordered the wrong dishes and didn’t have a great impression of the food. The Holly Hood (seared salmon sushi roll) was amazing! The Texas Summer (spicy tuna) was alright. The typical spicy tuna paste as a sushi roll. The beef clay pot didn’t have crunchy rice. It was just beef stir fry served in a clay pot. Disappointed. Don’t put clay pot in the name, found it misleading. The pork stuffed fried eggplant was decent. Think pork dumpling but wrapped in eggplant and fried in tempura batter. They’re kind big.
pretty mediocre experience. I was really happy to find a restaurant open on Christmas, but the food was pretty average at best. The vegan dumplings felt undercooked, the 3 cup mushrooms were a little too salty, and the cucumber noodles were flavorless. The scallion pancake was a bit of a brighter spot with a softer consistency than normal, but they lacked the flavor of a typical scallion pancake. Overall, I was grateful to have found a restaurant, but not thrilled with the result.
Stopped by late one sunday night and they unfortunately had already stopped preparing sushi. The pork stuff fried eggplant was surprisingly very good and well prepared, the beef noodle soup was okay the meat was well prepared but the noodles were not amazing, and the slice of cake was good but a bit too sweet for my liking Interior space lacked remarkable design or decorations, children's art lined the wall behind the table, waitress seemed kinda unenthusiastic about the place but it was already pretty late Probably will not dine here again but upset I did not try the dumplings, was hoping that chinese/japanese fare they might have soup dumplings as well but it its only pot sticker style
The delivery took 1:15 hours to arrive, it arrived cold…. The quality of the food was really bad, the spring rolls did bot have much taste, the fried dumplings did not have enough filling, the steamed dumplings the dough was tough and dense… super dense. The meat and stir fry were so-so. Have ordered from them “twice” - the first time and the LAST time. A total waste of money!!
We found this restaurant way back December 2024. Way back then the atmosphere was good, you can tell it’s a family-friendly restaurant. Today is the day I crave for their sweet spicy chili wonton but I went home “DISAPPOINTED”. I was talking to my friends about this restaurant drove almost 2 hours and like what I said went home “DISAPPOINTED”. Let’s start with our server, the moment we sat he didn’t even bother to ask what drink we want. We ordered varieties of Starter, and Entree. The food came out 1 by 1 so some of us is eating and some of us is waiting which is not good. We asked for help for one of our order, but instead of help we got roll eyes and sigh from our server. He looks annoyed that we are asking questions about the meal like what I said “I brought friends here” so pretty much it was their first time having Taiwanese cuisine. The family - friendly restaurant is gone. It was so much different from how it was before. The food doesn’t taste the same, and will never return again.
First off, everyone was really sweet and I enjoyed my interactions with them. The place was also really charming with plenty of good wall art. However...my mushroom dish was essentially 2 cups of rice and 1 cup of mushrooms. It had zero seasoning. It's almost as if they forgot an ingredient or two. I dumped some soy sauce from the over cooked scallion pancakes on it, and that helped, but in the end, I regretted eating it. I derived no joy, but I was full. I could have made that dish for a few dollars at home. (Except I would have seasoned it.) Also, it took quite a long time for my food to arrive 20-20 minutes. My friend finished all ofnhis food by the time mine arrived. And the place was empty. Again, the staff were really nice. I wanted to like the food. I feel bad about this review. I won't be returning. Vegan doesn't mean tasteless. Hope this was just a bad day.
They open til midnight! My first takeout order is meat sauce noodle and chive pancake. the meat sauce is good, I love the shredded carrots, cucumber and bell peppers and CILANTRO 💚 but the noodles are soggy and wayyyyy overcooked. I know they overcook it since I ate it immediately at the back of the parking lot and it couldn’t possibly be because I didn’t eat it right away and let it steamed in the togo container. Maybe it’s because I ordered takeout at 11:47pm. The last order can be a blooper? The chive pancake is alright. They deep fry it, which isn’t quite traditional. All in all I am out $27 dollars and not very satisfied. But….. I might recuperate my disappointment and come back later for their pork rice, since the meat sauce is pretty good and tastes like home :) so maybe their rice dishes and dumplings will taste like home too~
Originally from Taiwan, and was exited about trying this Taiwanese restaurant while visiting Austin, TX. It was quite a bit overpriced and in addition, the taste is quite disappointing. 😞 Charging $13 for 3 pieces of "large chip with topping" is pretty unimaginable (Asian Nachos). 😬 The Lu Rou Fan was so salty (台語:死鹹) at $15 without even half of 滷蛋 (soy braised egg). 🥲 The pork Pan-fried dumpling is decent which tasted home made, although the skin is a bit thicker than expected. The Pork Belly noodle soup is also acceptable, due to the beef noodle soup flavor used, although the noodles is a bit overcooked and the sour cabbage is not sour but very salty. Overall, quite a bit sadden by the experience, however, if people do not know what authentic Taiwanese food tasted like, then that explains the Google review star values we saw. 🥹
I love Asian food and was really excited to try this place but I thought the food was incredibly under-seasoned and bland, and the service could’ve been better. The best part was the shrimp chips, which my mom often makes at home. I was disappointed you only get 6 given these take seconds to make and they cost nearly nothing. I love egg drop soup and the one here is water with egg in it. The soup wasn’t properly heated up either so the top of the soup was really hot but the middle and bottom was room temp, so eating it was incredibly unpleasant. We didn’t touch it at all. If the server had ever come around or asked us about it, I would’ve have told him. The scallion pancakes were fine. The sauce you dip it in really saves that dish. The noodle dish was again, so bland. We took the sauce for the scallion pancakes and added it to the noodles to try and give it flavour. We also asked for their homemade chili dip to try and make the dish enjoyable. The mushrooms were seasoned well but if you only got noodle in your bite, it truly tasted like hot mush. Our waiter didn’t come check on us at all during our meal. There was a larger table that he seemed busy with. The table beside us also seemed to be a friend of the staff so they were also getting additional attention, which just exasperated the lack of service for us. Overall, the food and service wasn’t good enough to make me a returning customer.
Maybe I’m used to the Asian food scene north of Austin but this did not live up to any standard. Broth was so bland, 3 slices of beef buried in a mountain of noodles that werent tasty either. $18 for this. Also was not served with soy sauce and vinegar which are crucial in this dish. My bowl still had 80% of noodles left so that says a lot. Cute place though
For such high price they charging, they only give you very little portion. They must be making a killing. I eat there several times. They have always been stingy with their portion size. Now they just shrink the size again with smaller Togo box. Great job! Never eating there again.
We ordered the beef noodle soup and found it quite plain, without much beef aroma. The main flavor that came through was soy sauce. The spicy chili wontons were also underwhelming. For the environment, I’m giving three stars. While we were seated, there were several flies around, and the table next to us had not been cleared, with dishes still left on.
We were really excited to try Sweet Chive after hearing so many good things, but unfortunately this was a huge letdown. We spent about $50 for two rolls and six pieces of nigiri, which would have been fine if the quality matched the price. Sadly, the yellowtail nigiri was not okay — it tasted off, almost rotten, and nothing like yellowtail (which is our favorite fish, so we know what it should taste like). It was bad enough that we couldn’t finish it. What’s worse is that both of us got sick afterward, which makes us very concerned about how that fish was handled. The other fish seemed fine, but when one item is questionable — especially raw fish — that’s a big deal. We really wanted to love this place, but between the price, the bad yellowtail, and getting sick afterward, it’s not an experience we feel comfortable repeating. We hope the restaurant takes this seriously, because this could have been dangerous.
