This is my goto place for authentic Korean food. They are always consistently good and the service is prompt. The kimchi stew makes me think of my days in Korea. This time, we had the grilled macherel which was very delicious. I also recommend the combination meals. You can't go wrong with anything on this extensive menu. I almost forgot to mention the stone rice...my favorite.
Food is well seasoned and marinated. Extremely large selection of meals The lunch combo special is definitely worth the try. Our favorite is the korean short ribs combo. A must try AND the seafood pancake with sweet and sour soy sauce! Service is great Alot of friendly faces and constantly checking in! Recommend.
Summary: depending on what you get, can be such a filling and yummy meal easily shared across multiple people Food: plenty of options to choose from but if you want a bang for your buck, get one of the combo meals like the beef bulgogi with a soup of your choice (beef or scallop soup are good options). The portions are huge with plenty of refillable banchans (just ask) with one of the side dish even being a fish! Personal recommendation is the beef bulgogi bimbap or the beef bulgogi itself as it was flavorful. Also fav part of this place is how they give yakult at the end! Price: definitely worth or reasonable depending on what you get. Expect between the ranges of $17-25 Service: our servers were always friendly and helpful. Since it’s a busy area, expect a decent time of waiting Atmosphere: plenty of seating arrangements that can accommodate small to big parties. Noise level is decent depending on how busy it gets. Only issue I have is the decor as I feel like it can def be redecorated better to not have a clustered or old vibe to it. Note: would not recommend #37 as the dish was kinda tasteless and was not that good. Nor the black bean noodles as it was too sweet
This is in Dun Huang Plaza, so parking will be a nightmare. It’s hard because almost everything here is GOOD. Tofu village? EXCEPTIONAL. The food was SO tasty! But honestly, I got full with JUST the “little” side dishes! So many, so varied, so tasty, and so perfect with everything I ordered! I did not wait more than 5min’s to be seated and the staff brought everything out without making me wait as if they’d gone out to slaughter the cow. I forgot my wallet 🫣 but the young man in the cashier area was very kind and patient about my options if I had my cards on my phone. He was very helpful and everyone was very patient and generous with this delighted diner! Definitely thinking about what I’ll have next time, Gw.
I haven’t dined in at this place for a long time. Today I had lunch with my friend here. We ordered out of lunch special. I had seafood bento box and she had beef bento box. Everything was delicious. There were variety of food along with salad and soup. The soup was a bit too salty to my liking but it was not a big deal. The price was reasonable with the quantity you get. The waitress and busboy were polite and served us well. I highly recommend this place if you crave Korean food 😋
Excellent Korean Restaurant that is well worth the reputation. They prices are fair for the portion of the main dish and it comes with a hefty number of amazing sides that can be reordered as wanted for free. It’s an excellent place to have a family style or individual classic Korean dishes and the staff are very nice. The space is small and it gets filled up quickly, but not as much as some of the other restaurants in the area. Would recommend and will be going back to.
I was skeptical from reading the negative reviews before visiting Tofu Village, so i came in with low expectation to have lunch with my friend. But the experience was wayyyyy better than i thought. The restaurant was not busy on a Wednesday at 1pm. The servers were very friendly and nice. The restaurant was cleaned and the vibe was very Korea, with Kpop playing in the background and on the TV, brought back the memories when i was in Korea last year. Let's talk about food. We ordered quite a lot cuz we're hungry lol. Both of us got the Tofu soup combo (Tofu soup + BBQ), and a tokbokki came with many other side dishes (a big mackerel was one of them!). Food came out quickly, tasted authentic to me. I love the chewiness of the tokbokki and also love the rice was served in a small stone pot to keep it warm longer. Overall, I love Tofu Village and will definitely come back to try other food they have! Highly recommend!
Came to Tofu Village Restaurant back in July. I remember the days right after the power restored at Dun Huang Plaza after Hurricane Beryl. I was pretty hungry since I wasn't able to cook at home for awhile. Just been eating out for many days. When I walked in, the restaurant was over half full. The host took me to an empty table in the rear side where all tables were filled. The waitress was pretty quick after I place my order, she brought out the bunchas, then the food arrived. My dining experience was good. The restaurant's clientele was very diverse. My favorite part was the waitstaff spoke fluent English.
Busy place! Quick service! Food is great! Suggestion: know your foods and how they come prepared! I keep forgetting the dish I love and have been ordering all the wrong ones…but flavor is on point! Another note, while dining in today (Labor Day), we were sat in a corner and blended in with others but wasn’t asked if we needed any refills on the little side dishes to go in the tofu soup hot pot. We had to asked twice for water. I’m sure they were too busy but the table next (literally next to us) was serviced more. We’ll be back but will wait for a non-corner table next time.
he perfect place for authentic Korean food! Everything that I have tried here is very good. I came with some friends and it was my first time at a Korean restaurant and I was so pleased with the food and the service that I went back the next day! The staff is very nice and they help you if you are new and need some guidance. It’s a very interesting experience because they bring all these small plates to share and you can eat from there or add to your food. The soup is very very good, they have several options of protein and also they have options from non-spicy to extra-spicy and they don’t play games here with that so be aware! They serve the food really fast even when they are busy and I loved that and everything tastes very fresh. I tried the second time I went the seafood pancake, and loooved it! A very different concept but worth it! I want to bring my family, this kind of food is meant to be shared so it’s perfect for a group of friends or a family time
Average korean spot. Tofu soup could have more flavor. Jajangmyoen was also mid. Marinated galbi was good. Great service and love the complimentary yakult with the check.
I come here often for dinner! It’s one of my favorite spots in town for Korean Comfort Food! I usually get spicy pork or bulgogi combination with rice and soup! The side dishes are very tasty. The japchae could use some work (a bit on the salty side) but overall I would come here again!
Over give this a four star experience. It’s above average. The food quality was good. The service was sufficient for our needs however, we didn’t have to ask him a couple times to refill the water and also the side dishes. The interior is your typical restaurant with many individual tables and chairs. They did have some K-pop playing on the television, which is nice. The food came out hot and ready to eat. The flavors were good they weren’t great. You felt like it was missing that next step in taste. Parking is free and you can find some different spots however, directly in front of the restaurant might be busy. You might have to park a little bit further away from the direct entrance. I’d recommend if you like the kimchi soups. However, for me, I’d probably look for another Korean restaurant to go to since there are so many in Houston.
We were here for dinner on a Thursday, the experience was so different than before probably about half year ago. The restaurant entirely smells like a strong fragranced cleaning agent, make it difficult to ignore it and eat, especially with server constantly cleaning tables nearby. The beef short rib we ordered are mostly bones and tendons that were very difficult to chew. The waiters have changed as well, they used to have a few older Korean waitresses that are kind and sweet, but right now are just a bunch of young people that hanging around looking confused. Tofu village was one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Houston and it is sad to see it gets worse. Probably will think again next time to come here.
Was craving some Korean food so come here to eat. I was quickly greeted and seated by staff. I went on a Thursday afternoon around lunch time and was pretty empty. There was lots of table and seating. The server was super sweet and kindly explained and recommended me food option. I order the seafood pancake, jap chae, spicy seafood tofu soup, cha jang myeon, and short ribs. This all came with a bunch of side dishes. My favorites were the seafood pancakes as it was nice and crispy yet still soft then the short ribs were nicely seasoned and wasn’t tough to chew. As for the other dishes, they were good and nothing special. Overall, just place if you looking for basic Koran food.
We were regulars to this restaurant. A few times now, their pork cutlet has been extremely dry and thin. I’m not sure if they changed chefs but when my son used to order this, it was fresh and crispy. We ordered take out today and it was paper-thin and some areas were even hard to chew. You can barely see any meat in the photo. This is pretty disappointing for a $20 dish… They also did not pack the two salads that normally come with the dishes when you dine in.. so that was another negative. On one previous occasion, I even saw a roach on the wall. When I told the server about it, she just squished it with a napkin and acted completely unfazed. As I look at other reviews, some people have also mentioned seeing roaches at this location so it was not a one-off experience. Definitely would not recommend.
