Fun vibes, friendly service and yummy eats. Really liked the seasonings and tons of sweets options - cake, pie, ice cream and cinnamon rolls. Can't wait to come back!
This was a gem of a diner. I wish I could give more stars for "service" and "atmosphere". We found this restaurant after finishing a couple of days hiking the Northville Placid Trail. Eating dried food was getting old, and this diner hit the spot! Plus, they are DOG FRIENDLY!!!! We ate on the shaded patio, and our server brought out fresh water for the dogs along with our drinks. Chef Darrell even came out to visit and pet the dogs. The food was good, decent sized portions, reasonably priced, and the menu was quite varied. I need to mention the hard ice cream for dessert too. I recommend the bourbon caramel truffle ice cream. Yum. Of course, the puppies got their own special ice cream! Go visit Chef Darrell's Mountain Diner for a great nosh in the beautiful Adirondacks.
A couple things here, great service, great food, and veteran owned. One of the cleanest eateries we have been in. The mushroom and cheese omelette cooked perfectly, amazing color and texture along with great flavor and presentation. I’m old school, you also eat with your eyes. The home fries were delicious, not frozen, deep fried, or nuked. A buttery texture, with a fresh bite. The ice cream was also great BUT This sausage gravy is awesome! This stuff pops in your mouth with flavor… OOOFA. Whatever you order, get the sausage gravy on it. If you order ice cream, get the sausage gravy on it, waffles, get sausage gravy on them… you get the picture. This gravy has a great flavor profile!!! This was a great dining experience!!! Thank you Chef D and Semper Paratus!!
After a morning of hiking, we stopped at Chef Darrell's and it was a great surprise. The food was GREAT. In fact, my open-face turkey sandwich was probably the best I have ever eaten! If you are looking for great food in Blue Mountain Lake, be sure to give Chef Darrell's a try. You will not be disappointed.
We were finally able to have time to stop in today! Lunch for two was reasonably priced for excellent food. Reuben sandwich was the best my husband has had. My chicken sandwich was delicious. Friendly atmosphere with efficient and very nice service!! We will be stopping back!
Chef Darrell’s Mountain Diner is a fantastic restaurant located in Blue Mountain Lake, NY. For those fans of diners this place does not disappoint. This is a Silk City Diner that was built over 75 years ago! There is a great retro atmosphere here. Food portions here are huge and the food is great! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served here. The menu is wide and varied and uses the best ingredients. Prices are reasonable. Depending on when you go, it can get crowded here, but that’s because it’s good. When the weather is nice you can eat outside here. This is easily one of the best restaurants in the region. Great food and friendly service are all here. Try it out!
A stop at Chef Darrell’s for breakfast following a family trip to the Adirondacks has become an annual tradition. They got all the classic breakfast staples that you would find at a diner (as well as a few surprises, like shrimp & grits and chicken fried steak). Chef Darrell has always been there to welcome us in and invite us back after our meal. The service is attentive and efficient and the food always provides the comfort and satisfaction we're looking for before we head back to the real world. Looking forward to my next stop next year!
One of the BEST breakfast experiences I've ever had. We were seated and waited on quickly. The chef came to our table and talked with us briefly which was something I've never experienced in a restaurant in my entire life. He was so friendly and made us feel welcome and appreciated. The food was excellent. My husband and I both had the omelet special and our daughter had the breakfast quesadilla. We did not leave hungry or dissatisfied. I wrote this review while my husband was paying our tab if that tells you anything. Would absolutely eat here again!
This place is fantastic for breakfast, lunch or Dinner and the food is fresh, fun and absolutely delicious each and every time. Chef Darrell is a local celebrity, known and loved by all and his business is eexpanding to include a fine spirits menu, and a new arcade. I love this restaurant, and to my family and many others, a visit here is a true joy
This diner has the best home fries I've ever had. They are soft, yet crunchy, firm, yet soft, and seasoned to perfection. I would sacrifice my first born for the recipe. The lumberjack special had it all - and in the perfect ratio. Multiple meat and sausage options. This place was busy on a Sunday brunch time, yet no wait. We were served food less than 10 minutes from ordering, and the coffee never stopped flowing. I would go out my way to come here again. Everyone was friendly. Truly nothing could be better. Indoor booth seating, outdoor cover seating. The take tap to pay. Chef Darrell, you have my heart.
We stopped here after a long day in old forge. It was exceptional. Chef Darell came out to us when we got there to greet us and our kids were so happy. They raved about the food and service all night. And loved the arcade. They said it was the best spaghetti ever. We had a burger and shrimp pasta and were so satisfied. Our kids asked chef once he came out again to open a restaurant two hours away where we live and told him how much they loved his food. He bought ice cream for all 3 of our girls. I could not recomend this restaurant enough and we will definetly make the drive back.
Chef Darrel's Mountain diner is one of the best places to eat in the area. We were there for breakfast and the food was great! I had Chicken fried steak with sausage gravy, eggs, home fries and toast. It was delicious and the steak was tender enough to cut with a fork. The diner also has a full bar for the lunch or dinner crowd. The diner became extremely busy during our visit and the waitresses were struggling to keep up with coffee refills etc. Not a big deal except to let you know how busy it gets. Chef Darrell did visit the patrons to make sure everyone was satisfied with their meals. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough if you are in the area.
Such a lovely gem of a restaurant in the heart of the Adirondacks. I was out camping, and when the rain came through, I decided to go out for breakfast rather than cook. Darrell immediately made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in the door. Going to this diner is like coming home. Cozy, family vibes, with great music, great food, and the best company. Thank you Darrell and crew for the warm welcome, I'll definitely be back. :)
This is an exceptional diner both in atmosphere and quality of food. They have a wonderful menu and an awesome mix between comfort and refinement with the items they have on both the regular menu and the specials. Everything was good, but the chicken and waffles were absolutely insane. The most tender piece of fried chicken I’ve had on light fluffy waffles.
We stopped at the diner for lunch after visiting the museum. The spot is a cute, traditional diner with the kind of menu you'd expect from that sort of restaurant. Almost immediately the atmosphere was less than welcoming. We waited a few minutes for the waitress to clear a spot and while we did so the chef called her away to yell at her in the doorway to the kitchen. The place is small, the kitchen is open and every word from the kitchen can be heard in the seating area of the diner. I was surprised at how critical the chef was of the waitress while guests were standing right in front of them. I initially blew it off as it appeared there were only the 2 of them working and it was busy. We were seated and ordered. Our waitress was kind, quick and efficient which was particularly impressive because she was the only one taking care of the front of the house. We ordered a BLT and a Bacon blue burger. When our order made it to the kitchen the chef yelled out to the waitress who was not near the window "HOW DO THEY WANT THE BURGER COOKED"? Since we could hear her and see her, we replied with the choice. The BLT was good, the fries were perfect, but the burger had no bacon and was unseasoned. The food was not bad, but the atmosphere was terrible thanks to the chef barking orders, yelling at the waitress and generally being demeaning, unprofessional and basically awful to the waitress all in plain sight and earshot of the entire restaurant. It was uncomfortable to say the least. At one point the chef told the waitress "stop staring at me and go do your job" after being called back to the kitchen by the chef in the first place. The waitress maintained her smile and gave us quality service in spite of being yelled at repeatedly for the duration of our meal. The entire experience was very off-putting and hard to shake off. I still feel bad for that poor waitress who had to and likely will continue to have to endure working with a cruel person belittling her every chance she gets. If one needs to offer staff criticism or correction, there's a time and place for such things, not to mention a way to do so that encourages staff to strive to be better rather than through condescension and mean spirited humiliation.
We went here to get a bite to eat after boating. I got the Ruben, and it was very good, but kind of pricey for what you received, a thick sandwich and a small portion fries. My friends got the spaghetti and meatballs, fish-and-chips and the cheese steak. The fish and chips were very good But once again, a small portion. The spaghetti and meatballs was not good. Very small portion 3 meatballs not seasoned well, just bland. My last friend ordered cheesesteak And ended up with Turkey, wrong order. What he got was just kind of ok at best. Once again not seasoned well , bland and not what he ordered. Our bill for 4 for lunch was $125.00 including tip. Sodas are $3.00 for a cup with no refills. Water is not available as an option to drink, only sells water bottles! Very wasteful and not environmentally sound. I would not go again if i had a choice of going elsewhere.
I got the burger with bleu cheese and bacon with fries. The fries were pretty average, nothing special. The burger was very good - large patty, cooked right, and very tasty. My main issue was that they charged $3.75 for a soda, which seems high to me but I'll accept that - what left a bad taste in my mouth was that for $3.75, you don't get free refills. That's a great way to sour a decent meal. And what exactly is that accomplishing? Sure - you can take a little off the tourists for the soda by charging a high price but do you think you're saving a bunch of money by not giving out refills? It's a little bit of water and sugar - I can't see how that is a sound business decision. So yeah, the burger was good. The fries were mediocre. And the prices were ridiculous. Service was average. I understand now why they never offered to refill my soda and I had to ask.
Nice atmosphere and very clean. I came because of the great reviews and the menu looked promising. I especially love a good Reuben, and with a name like “Two Fisted Reuben” I was really hopeful. Unfortunately, what I received was not what I expected—stringy, dry strips of meat with no real slices anywhere. At $17, it felt overpriced for what I got. Very disappointing given my expectations.
Don't go here. We went on a Thursday at 1:30, and I was hoping that maybe it was just bad timing, but I believe now it was the staff/waitress. We did not get to meet Cheff Darrell like so many others have, but we did see his nice white Corevette in the parking lot. The run down of our visit is as follows... We entered and got ushered to a dirty table. Upon sitting down the waitress sprayed our table, and us with cleaner and wiped it. We looked past it and checked the menu and found what we wanted. When it came time to order things got complicated. Our waitress didn't understand English, or the menu. My boyfriend wanted a special listed on the board at the front door, the Maple Belgian Breakfast Sandwich, and had to say each word 3 times, and the waitress looked at the menu, didn't not see it and shook her head. He told her it was a special written on the board, and had to repeate it another time. I asked for the Veggie Burger and asked what is on it, to which she replied "I don't know. I'm not from here." I asked if there is lettuce, tomatoes, onion, etc. she shook her head and shrugged her shoulders. I asked if I could have the cheese sauce (that is listen on the menu for other items) for my fries. This was the biggest mistake of my day. We discussed this substitution for a full minute as I tried to explain what I meant, and felt I had made myself clear after pointing to the menu and reading the description of what I was looking for, with her looking closely with me. While we waited for our food, we got no coffee refills. Which kinda sucks because it was a very small sad cup of coffee for nearly $3. When the food came, my boyfriend received what he ordered, and that is the only saving grace here. My veggie burger was paired with a tiny slice of tomato and 1 piece of limp, floppy lettuce. I asked for a side of mayo, had to repeate myself and say 'mayonnaise' and gesture the size I was looking for, and still was looked at as if I was an alien. When she returned with the mayo she brought the fries, served in a tiny cast iron skillet and covered in shredded cheese, and also burnt. The fries had been cooked in old oil and left an old fried-fish flavor in my mouth, my boyfriend confirmed this after trying it himself. We were never visited again by this young lady. Instead we ate our food and watched her try to seat patrons at dirty tables still covered in dishes. I also saw her seat a couple at the bar and spray them as they sat, like she did to us. The woman wanted an ice cream sundae, which was unfathomable apparently, and she had to go ask the kitchen if that was ok. She ignored customers trying to pay their bills, and told one lady who wanted to order take out to wait outside, and never went back to her. Something must have changed recently because the food looked good in reviews, but the reviews themselves have plummeted lately, and I understand why. It was a waste of time and money. The food was not amazing and was overpriced. The shirts he is trying to sell (as if this place is a fan favorite, or worth coming back to) were also extremely overpriced. I wish we left as soon as we got sprayed. Darrylls nice car parked outside was a reminder of why the food was so expensive.
