Opinions de Hole In The Wall Brooklyn
Was looking for a spot to eat in Williamsburg and ended up at Nan Xiang Express, which turned out to be exactly what we needed. It’s a faster, more casual spin on the original Nan Xiang, so you still get those familiar flavors without the long wait or full sit-down experience. If you’ve been to the original, you can definitely feel the connection here same roots, just more streamlined. The space is small and cozy with a relaxed neighborhood feel. Service is quick, and the whole setup is very efficient. It’s self-service, so you grab your own water and clear your table when you’re done, which keeps things moving and fits the express concept well. We ordered a mix of dishes and everything came out fast and tasted really good. The crab meat and pork soup dumplings were flavorful and comforting, with a savory broth made from collagen-rich pork stock that melts into soup when steamed. The filling had ground pork, crab meat, and ginger, giving it a nice balance of richness and subtle sweetness without feeling greasy. The spicy beef soup dumplings had a deeper, bolder flavor. The beef filling was well seasoned, with garlic, soy sauce, and chili adding warmth rather than overwhelming heat. Still juicy, still comforting, just with a little extra kick. The chicken fried rice was simple and satisfying. Made with fluffy rice, egg, chicken, and light seasoning, it was clean, comforting, and exactly what you want alongside richer dishes. We also tried the pork and sticky rice siumai, which felt heartier than typical shumai. The sticky rice added a chewy texture, and the pork filling was savory and filling without being heavy. For drinks, the hot soy milk was smooth and lightly sweet, very classic and comforting with the meal. The grape and lime tea was refreshing and bright, with a slight tang that helped cut through the richness of the dumplings. Overall they deliver good food, fast service, and a cozy, casual experience. Simple, comforting, and efficient a solid spot when you want good dumplings without the wait.
A pretty good soup dumpling with pretty thick skin and mild seasoning. I got the beef one and its not that spicy! Which is nice and you can always add more spice using their chili oils. They offer free infused water too. The sitting available are plenty.
The beef noodle soup was really delicious — the beef was generous and came in big, tender chunks, which I loved. The broth was rich and comforting. The only small downside was that the noodles were a bit too soft, as if they were cooked a little too long. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming, always smiling, which made the experience even better. I would definitely come back again.
The restaurant's ambiance and decor are truly inviting, providing a pleasant setting for a meal. Every dish presented was prepared with great care, showcasing fresh ingredients and delightful flavors. The presentation of each plate was artistic and added to the overall dining experience. The automated vendor option provided a convenient and efficient way to order. Overall, the restaurant offered a well-rounded and enjoyable experience.
Got the pork soup dumplings, cabbage shrimp pork dumplings, rice cake, and beef stir fry noodles. The cabbage shrimp pork dumplings were unexpected a favorite over the soup dumplings. The noodles were a bit salty but hit the spot. I enjoyed the soy milk which is hard to find!
Nan Xiang Express: Dumplings That Deliver Nan Xiang Express is a fantastic stop for anyone craving authentic and delicious Shanghainese cuisine, but their dumplings are the true star of the show. Specifically, their famous soup dumplings (xiao long bao) are a must-try. The delicate, thin wrappers manage to perfectly encase a savory filling and a burst of flavorful, piping-hot broth—a truly satisfying bite. Beyond the signature soup dumplings, their other varieties like the pan-fried pork dumplings are equally excellent, offering a crispy bottom and a tender, juicy filling. The quality, freshness, and authentic taste make Nan Xiang Express a top-tier choice for dumpling lovers. While the "Express" format means it’s fast and convenient, the rich flavors certainly don't feel rushed. It's a taste experience that will absolutely have you planning your next order.
I did not expect the wonton to be that delicious. The soup dumplings too, OMG i’m so impressed. Such a great restaurant, everything tasted so good. I’m traveling new york but I would come back just for these dumplings.
This is a great dumpling shop with about 6 4-top tables and a small but very nice back outdoor area with some seating. You can order directly from staff or via a touch kiosk. We got most of their menu when we went. The hot and sour soup is good on the sour side with a nice amount of acid but could be a bit more spicy and have more mushrooms in it. The hot sauce on the table is Szechuan pepper based and has a fair amount of mala so be warned. The scallion pancake was pretty good and comes with hoisin sauce to dip it in, came out super hot and crispy but could have used a few more scallions to better hit on the onion flavor. Finally the soup dumplings: we tried every type and all were amazing, they come out steaming and hit but not so hit you can not actually eat them right away, great flavor on the pork, beef and pork+crab. Overall this was an amazing little spot for lunch
Beautiful braised beef noodle soup and drinks!!! Super tasty dish and it's always my favourite Chinese dish for a hearty meal ♥️ Thank you so much ~ friendly service and easy to find on Google Maps. 🙂
These dumplings are absolutely fantastic, especially the spicy dumplings served with peanut sauce! Each bite is bursting with flavor, and the spicy kick perfectly complements the savory filling. The prices are reasonable too, making it an excellent spot to enjoy delicious, high-quality dumplings without breaking the bank. If you're looking for a satisfying and flavorful dumpling experience, this is definitely the place to go!
Classic 小笼包 (soup dumplings) with authentic dipping chilli oil condiments! Such a comforting meal so far away from home.
So glad they opened a location in Williamsburg. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. The shrimp wontons in spicy peanut sauce are one of my favorite dishes to get anywhere and I crave it. The soup dumplings are just OK, I think something is lost when they aren’t made on site but if you need to scratch that itch it will do the trick otherwise go somewhere in Chinatown. They are open until 2am and there’s no waiters just order at the counter. It’s right off Bedford ave and Grand st. So good! Get it!
Saw this while walking around and it was soooo delicious. Easy to order and quick to get. The crab + pork soup dumplings were so good. 10/10!
Had a great experience at Nan Xiang Express in Williamsburg! We ordered the chicken stir-fry and scallion pancakes, and both were fantastic. The chicken stir-fry was flavorful, with tender chicken and perfectly cooked vegetables, all coated in a delicious sauce. The scallion pancakes were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and had just the right amount of oniony flavor. The service was quick, and the staff was friendly. Definitely a great spot for a casual and satisfying meal—will be coming back to try more!
Amazing dumplings and siu mai! Cant go wrong. Great and quick service!
New to NYC. Here for a work contract so I’m trying food in the area. This place was delicious! All of the food was excellent and the staff were so efficient and kind. I’ll be coming back here again so I can try everything on the menu. Thank you!
We had a fantastic brunch, but even though the restaurant was almost empty, the host seated us at the bar saying everything was booked and reservations were coming. We stayed for about an hour, and the place remained mostly empty the entire time. Only when we were about to leave did people start showing up. The main issue was that the host didn’t get us a table and also didn’t inform us about any time limitations, which slightly took away from an otherwise great experience.
Yesterday, while walking past several restaurants, I found myself craving an exceptional meal and was immediately drawn to the menu at Hole in the Wall. We were seated right away, and the menu offered an impressive selection that truly set high expectations. We began with the sausage rolls and wings, both of which were equally outstanding. For our entrées, we each ordered the OG Burger, and it did not disappoint. The use of ground short rib for the burger patties was an excellent choice, resulting in rich flavor and perfect texture. Every element was expertly prepared—the seasoning was spot on, the cheese melted beautifully, the bacon was crisp, the vegetables were fresh, and even the fries stood out. It is rare to find a restaurant where every dish excels, but Hole in the Wall delivered across the board. The staff was warm, attentive, and professional, and the relaxed atmosphere added to an already outstanding dining experience.
Came here w just my mom and I Got brussel sprouts and the shrimp bowl - brussel sprouts were addictive. Also the portion they gave was so big we got to take a lot home too :) Shrimp bowl was excellent w a unique mix - the green tomatoes were an interesting sour punch. I did cut them smaller to mix in bites more. My mom loved the radish and wanted to find out what kind they were. She felt the shrimp wasn’t as fresh as the other ingredients but I felt like it was good.
Yeah this place is pretty top notch, great, yummy clean food and great cocktails. Had an Irish coffee and some fries, it was delicious. Bartender was super nice and the restaurant itself was clean and hip. Looking at other peoples food I wish I was hungry to try some other things it all looked great!
My family and I had a breakfast here. We ordered kimchi scramble, spicy shrimp vodka rigatony, pork benedict. We liked all of them, and the best dishes were in order, the benedict, spicy shrimp vodka rigatony and the kimchi scramble. I also drank espresso martini which was uniquely delicious flavor - sweet at first, then vodka later. It seems stronger than expected.
Really nice atmosphere! Open and airy with good food and very friendly and excellent people that work here! I had the smash burger which was awesome! The food comes very quickly and is presented really well! The gentleman that took care of us ruled and we will definitely come back! Hope to try some of the other items on the menu! Also, the bathroom is super clean and really well done. If you’re in the area try this spot out for a casual meal, you won’t regret it!

Nice place to eat casually. Friendly staff. Lots of people at all times. reservation recommended.
Only had drinks and a couple appetizers here but everything we got was great. Our server was sweet and set up a nice table for us outside. Would come back to try more for sure
Chill ambience,, good service, good food.\nIs the food amazing makin me cravin wanna go back tomorrow? No.. but pretty good. Overall it's quite fun brunch spot at WB.
Such a cute vibe. Walking distance to the opera house so after parking our car we walked to find a place to eat. Ordered the pork roll and broccolini. The waiter was so nice. Such a cool spot
After a week in Brooklyn I’ve found the best spot. Outstanding food, cocktails and service. So delighted we found this place it’s amazing. I’d definitely eat here regularly if I was a local. Loved it…
Really nice food, amazing cocktail and service was 1st class. Lovely decor. I had shrimp reginetti and my OH had OG beef burger - both highly recommended.
I stopped by this place for a quick solo dinner. It’s a well-known Chinese eatery famous for its soup dumplings, with multiple locations around New York City. I’ve been to their original spot in Flushing before, and this one in Williamsburg feels like a smaller satellite version — cozy but not ideal for large groups. Since it’s mostly self-service, you order from a screen inside, take a seat, and they bring your food to the table. I ordered a bowl of pork and shrimp wonton soup and their signature pork and leek soup dumplings (the green ones). I’ve had these dumplings at their Flushing location before, and they’ve always been excellent — flavorful, juicy, and perfectly steamed. At this location, though, they were still good but not quite as impressive as the original. The wonton soup was decent, but nothing special. The standout here is definitely their in-house chili oil — super spicy, aromatic, and full of flavor. If you visit, don’t skip it. Overall, a solid stop for dumpling lovers, though the Flushing branch still reigns supreme.
Food is amazing! The cucumber salad is to die for. So fresh and flavorful! Would come back just for the cucumbers. The soup dumplings are pretty good too, each bite exploding with hot pork soup. It’s a self service place and food comes out quickly. It’s a small cozy restaurant, limited seating.
Signature soup dumplings were great! Not a fan of the beef ones, has a weird taste and didn’t seem fresh. I’d come back for the other ones though 😊 Guy at the register can be more friendly and communicate more kindly.
Came here for brunch on a weekday. Loved the ambience and atmosphere. (Plants, photography on wall, etc) - service was good, our waitress was informative, but she did make a mistake with my order (I recieved the wrong toast, but they sent it right back and made the right one.... but my partner waited a while so we can eat together) ☕️ nutty espresso smoothie was very good... just wish it was bigger ☕️nutella mocha was alright... it needed more nutella for my liking 🍽 mushroom toast was incredible! Highly recommend, definitely the highlight of my experience here and if return just to have this again 🍽 my partner got the breakfast burrito (we don't eat pork , so he got chicken as a substitute) it was allright, not his favorite Overall I definitely recommend this place.
I was pleasantly surprised by the sizes of the dishes. I didn’t expect generous portions since the prices are quite reasonable. However, I wish the bread wasn’t so dry. It would be better if it was slightly soaked in some kind of dip. Overall, it was a really pleasant experience and food is really tasty.
Cute spot. Love the plants. Good service. Had the egg sandwich with hash browns on it. It was ok. My friend had the pasta with shrimp. She loved it. I would definitely visit again.

have been here twice. The food is good lots of good gluten-free options and an excellent liquor choice.
Lively vibe and good service. \nThis is a busy joint and reservations definitely recommended for weekend brunch. \nWe love it that they use sourdough toasts and my Kimchee Scramble was really good.…
Nice place . Very cool bar ambiance. The dinner menu was limited but very good. The drinks were good. The staff was very attentive. Enjoyed our family dinner
Food was served on a water damaged tray. Hate leaving negative reviews but this tray should not have been given to a customer. I thought the dumplings were average but was grossed by the tray and would not come back or recommend.
checked out a brunch spot in Brooklyn that ChatGPT recommended. Honestly, it wasn’t as good as I expected. We ordered breakfast burritos, a beef burger, and a chicken sando. The burritos didn’t taste good at all. The matcha didn’t look appealing, and I could only drink half of it. Overall, it was disappointing and over hyped . But service was great.
Excellent brunch food. Staff couldn’t care less. Highly recommend coming here for the food, everything seems to be outstanding. The staff barely manages to squeeze out a smile once you’re about to pay $$$. Otherwise, they can’t be bothered to check whether there’s a free table if you come without reservation (seated at a bar although there were at least four free tables for over an hour when we were there and we asked twice to get a simple „no“).
The staff was quite welcoming and attentive. The dining area was partially filled with locals. We shared two breakfast dishes, the salmon toast and the mushroom toast. The Salmon toast was overseasoned due to all of the salty elements. It was also garnished with thinly sliced red Chile peppers. The poached egg was perfect. The bread was artisonal and freshly baked. The mushroom toast was nearly perfect, albeit a bit more expensive than it should have been. The poached egg and bread were both nearly perfect. Considering the fact that the dining areas were no where near capacity, it makes no sense that both orders were served on chipped dishes/bowls. Two drip coffees with half and half were ordered. Unfortunately, they were both bitter and mediocre at best. I also didn't appreciate seeing that the floor under my chair was littered with food from the previous customer. The menu has promise. Unfortunately, the execution was not up to par.
Food was basic and the service was quick. Like the wanted to turn tables over quickly. So I felt rushed. The pulled pork Benedict was different and really good though.
The bartender was too busy texting and not focusing on the customers who sat at the bar. It was after 15 mins that she realized and came to take my order. I was ready to walk out. There should be no …

The first restaurant I ate at in 2025 was a small brunch place in Williamsburg. I met some friends, had coffee, thrifted, and stopped at this restaurant. Hole in the Wall is unfortunately not an ac…
Extremely mid experience. Started off with walking in and wanting to sit at the bar as a solo diner, was told it was a 45min wait to sit inside. So I said ok I will sit outside wasn't trying to wait, it was a brick and breezy 48 degrees outside. They have a covered eating are hut no heat on it. So while sitting in the cold the staff also doesn't want to be out there so the service suffers intensely. Had to ask for my coffee at brunch 4 times before I wa told they where brewing a new pot and thats why it took so long, all while not bringing a spoon or sugar for the coffee. I ordered coffee first and got it last. My old fashioned and entree came out so fast as if it was somebody else's order that maybe got ran to me or someone declined it and they just rerouted to me.. either way it came out far to fast. Like under 8mins from ordering fast. Thats not enough time for the eggs to be as over poached as they were. The pulled pork Benedict is a solid dish make no mistake but it really came out way too quick. The old fashioned was good. Overall I think it's a dope concept for a restaurant but the details and execution that makes a restaurant great and repeatable where simply not in action today.
