Opinions de Perini Ranch Steakhouse Buffalo Gap
The food was fantastic. There was an incredibly loud group near us so we decided to leave early, but they did comp us dessert. No complaints about the food or service.
Best steak EVER. Great service. Really nice people. Honest people eat there. Lost my smart watch in parking lot. It was taken inside and returned to me in no time. Couldn’t ask for more. When I get back in the area will plan dinner at Perini’s for sure.
It was my first time visiting, I really enjoyed it. Nan was super accommodating and kind, the smoky scent of grill in the air adds a charm to the place, ambiance was overall super cozy. Comparing to other famous top tier steakhouses, Perini is a win for me, as far as prices go - I believe that cost is very reasonable. My steak was cooked to perfection, it was delicious, tender and juicy. I’ll be coming back for sure.
Stellar steak! ... perfectly cooked, seasoned, and served! A wonderful restaurant in a wonderfully rustic setting - well worth the time and money. The sides, especially the hominy, were are well done, even the bread pudding (which was very tasty) - but the steak overshadowed them all! A bit pricey, but worth it! Appetizer, steak dinners with sides w/o alcohol $125. Look forward to the next trip.
Words don’t do this place justice - you must visit. The fact that we showed up on NYE, without a reservation, and showed up in decent attire since we were camping down the road in Abilene State Park, and they were gracious enough to seat us, means more to us than they’ll know!!! We went big with our bone-in ribeyes and jalapeño cheddar grits (a must-have). We were so pleased with the quality of food, staff service, and the hospitality of Buffalo Gap. We truly hope to be back. Y’all need to listen to their podcast too! We learned a lot about cattle drive and the importance of our country’s agriculture industry!
I’ve been to Perini twice, and I can confidently say this is the place to have the best steak in the region. It’s expensive, but the quality truly delivers. I tried the ribeye and the bone-in ribeye with a Malbec, and it was fabulous. Make sure to make a reservation in advance, as the restaurant is always full.
Service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere was warm and inviting, it somewhat felt like you're at a gathering rather than a restaurant, homely in a sense. I didnt have steak I was a little full second day birthday celebration lol. Everything we ate was filled with flavor and had that warm touch. Had the cowboy redskins potatoes, the Ceasars salad which was truly awesome, they add olive oil to theirs instead of just adding regular creamy Ceasars dressing at least thats how it tasted. The Ribs were done to perfection not heavly seasoned but served with a delicious sauce which together was spectacular. My wife had the grilled catfish with Mac n cheese, truly devine. A must have is their quail legs for starters, we did a double serving because they could start a fight if you are sharing them lol yeah that good. To end the night we tried their bread pudding ranking it against the bread pudding from you know where in town lol, this one is also not too be shared its that delicious possibly the best in town. It tasted so good you could taste every accompanying ingredient, the Butter with the makers mark all blended together so good. Absolutely worth a trip out. We'll definitely be back for a steak night. 😋
The best ribeye I've had in a while! Tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Also, the zucchini perini was quite tasty. Everything we ordered was fresh and came out pretty quickly. Our waitress Bree (not sure of the spelling) was a sweetheart; very warm, welcoming, and attentive. One of the staff also brought us blankets as we were sitting outside. I look forward to stopping by again soon.
I initially scored 4's on service and atmosphere. I was being petty. I'm hot blooded and the place was hot for me. Everyone with me was very comfortable soooo I changed it. The server didn't give me any options for a bourbon other than Woodford, while I like it I'd like to have heard what else was available. I could have pushed but we were a group of 6 and they were busy. On to the good. We all ordered different stuff. My HUGE ribeye was delicious, green chili hominy is outstanding, catfish is crisp and meaty, tenderloin looked cooked to perfection, and the ranch burger is excellent. The wife and niece had margaritas, which must have been good and strong. We go at least once a year to celebrate a birthday. It is an experience. Get a reservation and be ready for an enjoyable evening
Genuinely blown away by how amazing the food is! Their ranch burger is the best burger I’ve ever had, I will forever dream about it and wish I lived closer to this establishment. To top it all off, their staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. I didn’t have a reservation and they were still able to seat me with no hassle whatsoever. Shout out to my server Jennifer for being so kind and attentive to my requests. If you ever find yourself in the Abilene area, make sure to stop by Perini :)
Perini Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap delivered one of the most memorable dining experiences we've had so far in Abilene. From the moment we arrived, the warm, rustic charm of the setting and the impeccable service set the tone for an exceptional evening. The star of the show? The steaks. We ordered both the ribeye and bone-in ribeye, and they were nothing short of outstanding, cooked to a perfect medium rare, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. These steaks needed no sauce, seasoning, or garnish; they stood proudly on their own. The prime rib was equally impressive, juicy, rich, and beautifully pink throughout. The sides elevated the meal even further. The asparagus was fresh and well-seasoned, and the red skin potatoes were perfectly fork-tender with a delightful garlicky note. However, the standout was the poblano pepper mac & cheese. Creamy, gooey, and with just the right amount of kick, it was easily the best side dish on the table. For dessert, we sampled three options. The jalapeño cheesecake was a surprisingly delightful blend of rich and savory, while the Perini Ranch bread pudding was a decadent and satisfying finish to the meal. The strawberry shortcake was the only item that didn't quite hit the mark for us. We also tried a trio of drinks: the Mesquite-a-Rita, the Prickly Pear Mesquite-a-Rita, and the Bourbon Peach Tea, all creative, refreshing, and perfectly paired with the bold flavors of the food. Service was exceptional from start to finish. Our server was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure every detail was taken care of without being overbearing. While the prices are on the higher end, the quality, care, and authentic Texas experience more than justify the cost. Perini Ranch isn’t just a meal, it’s a destination, and one well worth the trip.
Our visit to Perini Ranch Steakhouse—along with an overnight stay at the Perini Guest House—was nothing short of unforgettable. Both the dining experience and the accommodations exceeded every expectation. The steakhouse itself delivers on its legendary reputation. The atmosphere is warm, rustic, and full of character, with a sense of authenticity that perfectly matches the Texas charm. The food was phenomenal—cooked to perfection and bursting with rich, robust flavors. Every bite felt like a celebration of what a true steakhouse should be. The service was attentive, genuine, and seamless throughout the evening. After dinner, staying at the Perini Guest House made the entire experience feel even more special. The accommodations were beautifully appointed—inviting, comfortable, and thoughtfully curated with those small details that make a big difference. It was peaceful, private, and the perfect complement to an already incredible night. Both the meal and the stay were standout experiences on their own, but together they created something truly memorable. Perini’s is a destination in every sense of the word—and we’re already looking forward to our next visit. Party of 4, total for the meal was $442, and renting both guest houses was $660 for one night.
Probably the best meal I've ever had!!! Arrived at 4:00 in the evening. They don't open till 5:00- but Melissa made sure we had one of the best seats in the house... Having got the prime rib rare it was perfect. I got the fillet medium rare. It was beyond perfect.. Save room for the bread pudding!!! Didn't take a picture of anything. I just started eating!!!
MUST VISIT!!! Dined in on a quiet Sunday evening at sunset. Beautiful grounds in the lovely quaint area of Buffalo Gap. Upscale rustic dining. Very friendly staff. Bathrooms were clean. Fire in the fireplace was cozy and welcoming. It was our first time to visit and we were grateful for our waitress’s advice. We split a 32oz Porterhouse that was grilled to perfection. The salad, rolls and green chile hominy were fabulous. Atmosphere was casual and relaxed. Outdoor areas were beautiful and can only imagine the wonderful outdoor events that are held here! Worth the drive. Several neighboring diners were from out of town visiting for the first time thanks to the reputation of the steaks. Don’t miss this gem if you’re anywhere near Abilene, TX!
This is truly Texas hospitality and the best steaks you can eat. People are true Texans with plenty of service and smiles. Food is absolutely awesome and true Texas ambiance. Never lets me down.

Drove in from Ft. Worth to eat a fabulous steak and sleep peacefully and comfortably in the Perini guest quarters. It was the perfect way to celebrate my husband's birthday. We'll be back!
This rustic steakhouse just southwest of Abilene is a must for serious steak lovers and foodies, in general. Also, a good wine list and friendly service.

Very cozy country themed atmosphere for dining. It’s kinda out in the middle of no where which feels a little sketchy. Once you get inside, it’s all good. The servers greet and seat you with a sense of urgency, courtesy, & politeness. They will make room for you and find a space for you if they can so that you’re not waiting around for so long. They promptly start your order. They make you feel comfortable and welcomed. I’ve been in the habit of wearing my cowgirl boots whenever I eat here all in the spirit of the cowgirl country lifestyle. I try to blend in and make it a true country cowgirl experience. I consider myself somewhat of a country girl at heart because both sides of my families originated from the US country south and I’m a proud American. So I do have country in me although I was born and raised in a big city. Yeehaw. lol! I have gone there specifically for the lamb chops special. The lamb chops are delicious, but the serving size is too small for the high price. The special comes with a small serving of asparagus or Brussels sprouts. Also, a serving of their homemade jalapeño jelly. I’ve never had anything like that jelly. It’s very unique and tastes great. I like the way they prop the lamb chops up on the plate when they present it to you. It’s an expensive dish, but it’s worth it to me because I really enjoy feasting on lamb chops. I just wish they served them on the menu more often. Sometimes they advertise the lamp chop special and I’ve called in advance only to find out that they’re not on the menu for the weekend even though they’ve been advertised. I always call before going and I always will. It would be great if you all had better lighting in the parking lots at night so that guests feel more secure coming & going at night. Love, Light, Respect, Peace & Blessings, Care
I recently visited this restaurant and have mixed feelings about the experience. The ambiance and scenery were absolutely stunning—easily a 5/5. The service was equally impressive, with friendly staff and prompt attention. Our drinks arrived almost immediately after ordering, though they were underwhelming—they tasted like they had little to no alcohol. As for the food, I’d give it a solid 3/5. The house salad was very basic, and the lettuce had yellow edges, which was a bit off-putting. On the flip side, the filet was excellent—cooked to perfection and full of flavor, though a bit heavy on the salt. The twice-baked potato was a standout, but the hominy side fell flat and didn’t leave much of an impression. Overall, the experience didn’t quite live up to the hype, but it’s possible I caught them on an off day. That said, they were very accommodating despite us not having a reservation, and I really appreciated how dog-friendly they were. That level of hospitality definitely deserves recognition.

Me and boyfriend love coming here for special occasions. Staff is always friendly and welcoming and we love the food. However tonight we went to celebrate my 22nd birthday and I was refused service for drinks. I had to get a new license recently as mine expired so I had a temporary license and brought my passport as well. A valid passport is accepted by Texas TABC as a valid form of identification yet I was still refused service because I did not have my old expired license. I had to surrender my old license as I was transferring my license from another state so I do not have possession of it but offered to show a picture but was still refused. A establishment has a right to refuse service but to say it’s due to the law and my passport doesn’t work is not correct. We have also gone there when my boyfriend had a temporary license due to renewing his and they accepted his passport so we didn’t think we would have a problem. Our waitress was great as well as the food but we were disappointed for being refused service and not being able to enjoy a drink with dinner for my 22nd birthday when I had a valid ID accepted by Texas TABC regulations.
Alcoholic beverages (tried 4 different ones) were overly sweet with too much juice/syrup. All potato side dishes were flavorless and undercooked. Caesar salad was more of a salad with oil dressing …

Okay, I’ve slept on it, taken the time to calm down. Now, the review. My husband made reservations at Perini’s Steakhouse for yesterday to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary. The food was good enough, but the service was deplorable. We got a waitress with an attitude and it ruined the whole experience. For my husband it started when he looked up from the menu and there she stood. No “Hi. I’m Melissa S. and I’ll be your server tonight.” or other greeting. For me it started when I asked the price of the specials. She acted like if I had to ask, we didn’t belong there. We had checked the internet prior to making our reservation and the only prices we could find were listed by AI, and seemed affordable. But once we were seated and given a menu, the prices seemed excessive. So we toned down what we came for. But that should not have influenced the service in any way. And yes, it was just us. We watched her service three other tables and her demeanor was entirely different, even friendly. But to us she was snobbish and dismissive. We were highly offended, and her tip reflected her actions. So, will we be going back to Perini’s? No. Will we recommend it to anyone? No. When you pay that much for a meal you deserve courtesy.
