Opinions de Banana Island Daly City
Been here for years and love their food. Always. Indian pancake, chicken satay, wings wrapped in leaf, shrimp cakes, seafood green curry, pineapple fried rice, and Malaysian Tofu are my favorites. Rip Malaysian milk tea.
I was craving Malaysian food before the movies and found this gem. Parking garage next to it is big and free. There’s plenty of seating in this restaurant and a good amount of people dining on a weekday night. We ordered the roti canai, the satay skewers combo (+$1 for beef), and the char keow teow. The roti was so hot and fresh, chewy, crunchy, ripped apart and dipped into the sweet and savory curry sauce!! So delicious and my favorite. The satay was really good as well, I liked the chicken but my partner liked the beef. The stir fried noodles was good and had good wok hei but I preferred beef. I would come here again to try more dishes. Perfect for 2 or for a big family.
I was visiting from Pennsylvania and have never had Malaysian food. My sister brought me here and it blew me away! We started with Roti Canai, our main course was chicken rendang and we finished with Mango sticky rice. Every dish was fantastic. The service was prompt and all staff were friendly and helpful. Would absolutely recommend!!
Been coming here since a early age. I used to think it was super far from where I lived, little did I know it was just in Daly City. They offer Malaysian style/Singaporean dishes, along with fresh seafood. The roti is a must where it’s made to order. They have a decent sized menu packed with many delicious options. The wait can sometimes take awhile, but I don’t mind that since I have high patience and worth it after all. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to try new things or just in the area. Definitely will be back!
The restaurant has many varieties of southeast Asian food. I tried the shrimp noodles, fried chicken wings, and fried bananas. All are sooo good! The fried bananas are along the best dessert that I ever had. The frying dough is so crispy but not oily. The chicken wings are also well marinated before frying. I didn’t order the sigma roti pancake, but saw the process to make it. It was impressive!
July 2024: Enjoyed a very delicious dinner here. Favorites included the roti with curry sauce, the beef satay (thought it tasted better than the chicken), hainese chicken, chow fun noodles, and the crab 🦀. All of the food was very tasty 😋. Service was friendly. Would definitely come back again for more delicious food.
I came here with my family for a weekend lunch and got zero complaints from my Asian mother (which is the highest compliment of all)! We loved the roti appetizer, so glad that we ordered 2 portions for 4 people to share. It was light and fluffy, dipping it into the coconut curry sauce was perfect. We also tried a few other Singaporean classics like chicken and beef satay - the chicken was far more tender than the beef. The nasi lamak had great flavor but we weren't expecting it to be served like a single lunch portion. We also got a whole fish which was supposed to be Thai style, did not expect it to be fully deep fried but the accompanying sweet chili sauce was not bad. I would skip the Singapore style rice noodles next time (or maybe go for the crunchy fried version). I will be back to try the curry and some of their other popular dishes!
Update: I've been back like 5 times in the three months since we found this place. Everything is really good haha. --- Original review --- Okay this place is a hidden gem. Tucked into a back alley behind home depot. My partner found it online looking for Malaysian places and we figured we'd give it a shot. I was really pleasantly surprised Place was pretty hoppin' but we got seated fast. Service had a little lag sometimes, like our main dishes came out but we had to wait a few minutes for rice. Food was stellar. The roti was delicious and the curry sauce was so good! We also got the chicken rendang, Malaysian tofu platter, and mi goreng noodles. Chicken rendang was so tender and flavorful! The tofu platter was my favorite, just such a yummy sauce, super soft tofu, fresh veggies, soft egg, yum yum. The mi goreng noodles were also delicious, not my favorite but no complaints, just everything was really good.
MY favorite Malaysian restaurant in the peninsula!! I would literally drive from Sunset for this place! Needless to say, been here numerous times and will definitely for many more times in the future. Great service each & every time we are here thus far. MY usual orders are rotis, satay chicken or beef skewers & Thai ice tea each time we come along with other dishes. Wide selections of food and parking is conveniently located just in front of the restaurant.
I have been here a few times and have not been disappointed. It is a fairly busy restaurant so go early on friday and the weekend if you want to avoid waiting for a long time. I went again today(Wednesday) and weekdays are pretty full too. You can watch them make roti in the middle of the restaurant. That being said, you must order their Roti. It comes piping hot and crispy. Love their tofu dishes such as sizzling tofu and pretty much all of the other tofu dishes here. Volcano short ribs is similar to a sweet and sour rib. So far I have like everything.
First time here. You csn tell its an older restuarant but still relatively clean and maintained. There are ALOT of options here for chicken, beef, seafood, veggie. Everything we ordered was great. Lot of families with kids (including ours) so that's always nice to see. The location is kind of hidden and tucked away from the rest of the plaza. Def would come back
Nasi lemak was nice although there were only little anchovies, with lots of onions, and the sauce can be slightly spicier. Satay chicken was delicious especially the satay sauce. Disappointed with the kangkung belacan as it were slightly overcooked, and the stems were not as crunchy. Not much belacan or shrimp taste. The dish was soggy overall.
As someone who has never been to southeast asia, the food was petty good. We did go with some friends that had lived in singapore for 5 years and they said most of the dishes were pretty authentic (apparently the bone broth soup was completely off the mark). Just a warning, they automatically an 18% gratuity charge for us although that might have been because we were a larger party. Overall, solid choice.
Took me a while to find this place, as it is a bit hidden—behind the hime depot and the parking structure on Westlake. Arriving, there was almost no one, but as soon as I was seated, the lunch crowd began. I understand, reservations are highly recommended. I ordered a simple pad Thai and the amount of sweetness was just right—as I’ve had some that were too sweet. My only disappointment with my dish is that it only had 2 shrimps in the whole dish. Aside that, the flavor was superb. Service was fast and the woman in the front (taking phone calls), was absolutely fantastic. Great service. Great food.
Been here a few times and I love the atmosphere, but the food quality seems to be going down. The roti canai is made fresh, yet it was cold when it comes to my table and the dip wasn't even warm. The pineapple fried rice was not very flavorful and the Thai tea tastes bland and creamy, with no tea flavor. I loved their food and Thai tea before so I'm not sure what happened. I came on a Thursday evening, it was busy and there was many bus boys, but I only saw like 2 servers for the entire restaurant. However, the chicken satay came out piping hot and it was super juicy!
Hidden in an alley behind the Homedepot and across from a large parking garage. It's a hole in the wall locals hangout. Inside is a lil dark and needs some new carpet. We ordered the Pad Thai which was very tangy but bland in flavor, the Thai tea was not sweet however the House Special Chow Mein was very good and flavorful. Portion size is good. Theey dont take AE so Visa or MC only. Staff are nice. I say check it out.
When I was growing up, we’d use to come here often . We came for Father’s Day this year and the food quality has dropped a bit, as well as the portions of the roti… they are so small now that one portion is like for one individual. The beef rendang and the pad se ew were the highlights but the pad Thai is probably the worst pad Thai I have ever had. All in all, it’s alright but not as good as it used to be
