Opinions de Kajiken Elk Grove
We heard about Kajiken but have get the chance to try it in San Mateo, finally they open one location in Elk Grove, so excited to try it! We wait in line for about 45 min to get seated. Me and my husband tried Homura aburasoba and roost beef aburasoba. It was so good! noodle is Very flavorful and chewy! It is our first time having it and we will definitely come back!
There is a Kajiken in San Mateo which is the closest to where I live, but I decided to come by to this location on my way to Sacramento. No wait when I got there and I was greeted warmly by one of the staff members named Derek. I ordered their Oroshi Ponzu Kaarage and their top seller: Homura Aburasoba (Japanese style dry noodles with soy sauce + chili oil) and I will say these are very delicious! The noodles were cooked just right, mixed well with the spiced pork, onions, and bamboo shoots, and the portion size was just right for me who eats little. There are chili oil, vinegar, and other condiments on the side to mix with the noodles. The Kaarage is also delicious mixed with a giant portion of garlic ponzu and onions on top! I will say this is worth a trip to try out this rare noodle dish that you don’t see around here and I’ll definitely come back to try out their other noodles and of course their wonderful customer service!
the place was small and pretty full, with a short line out the door. it didn't take too long for us to be seated. service was fast and they were quick to refill our water and check in with us to make sure everything was good. I got the nikumori aburasoba and substituted the raw yolk for ajitama instead. the table also got the takoyaki. it arrived shortly after our group was seated. the food was soooo good, really hot and flavorful. the table also had extra toppings u can add for no extra cost (sesame seeds, minced garlic, chili paste, chili oil, and vinegar). I would love to come here again to try out the other dishes! :)
I tried Maze Soba, or soupless noodles, before in Vancouver, and it was amazing! I’ve been waiting for a place to open locally, so I am so glad this one opened in Elk Grove! I tried the Homura Aburasoba. Although it was a tad spicy, it did take me back to Vancouver, the noodles were good quality and tasted delicious! There is a line you have to wait in to get inside but it does move fast. A great place to try out if you’ve never had before.
In a nutshell; still rather busy and has quite long lines at the time of this review, but amazing noodles awaits you. Went on a Saturday evening at it was still quite busy. I applaud the hostess for being accommodating, there's a water station a bit of refreshments while waiting, and a great staff maintaining the quality of food and the dine in experience while handling the busy workload. I prefer regular ramen options as opposed to souplesss variations like this one but once in a while this is a delicious way to have your ramen if you're only wanting noodles and toppings and what not. It was assembled quite nicely and as you mix the ingredients you see how well the noodles are made and how it glisten as you lift them up with a fork or chopstick and enjoy every bite of your aburasoba or soupless ramen. Either way, I'd say it's worth the wait and was a pleasant experience overall.
Went to the soft opening and it was really busy, waited around 30-40 mins from open to get a seat. There were definitely still some kinks to work out for a soft opening, but had a great experience otherwise. Staff was very attentive, and with the long wait, asked for your order ahead of time while you were waiting. Ordered the homura aburasoba, the hiyayakko cold tofu, ponzu karaage, and takoyaki. The soba was super chewy and flavorful as you'd imagine. The cold tofu had a sweet and spicy taste, which is different than typical hiyayakko which you'd expect soy sauce flavors. Takoyaki was really good and wished there was more since there were only six of them. Lastly the ponzu karaage could use a bit more ponzu flavor, but other than that it had good portions, was lightly breaded and really tender. Loved everything here overall, and if you love ramen flavors you would love this place! Definitely a go to spot in the future!
If you’re craving bold Japanese noodles with a fresh twist, Kajiken in Elk Grove is a must. Located in the Ridge shopping center, this spot specializes in aburasoba — soupless ramen where rich sauces and house-made noodles take center stage. The vibe is bright, casual, and modern, with friendly, efficient service even during peak hours. The real standout is the aburasoba: chewy noodles coated in deeply savory sauces with perfectly balanced toppings. Favorites like the Homura and Tantan deliver layered umami, and customizable add-ons — from egg to chili oil — make every bowl your own. Crystal was an incredible server and made my first visit truly unforgettable.
Due to my background of being a Christmas fan, and my lingering holiday spirit, I’m renaming Kajiken to “Miracle on Elk Grove Blvd (street)” This restaurant has never failed me, and I don’t think they ever will. The staff is always kind, friendly, and helpful. The food is very reasonably priced, especially because it tastes so scrumptious and high quality. I’ve had the “Soboro Aburasoba” and most recently I’ve had the “Mushroom Aburasoba” and I added a poached egg and bok choy :) I’ve always been pleased by this restaurant, and I finally decided to leave a review! Yum yum “It was good. It was great. It was amazing.” -My friend, who had the “Roast Beef Aburasoba”
Kajiken is my favorite bite of Japanese cuisine in the Elk Grove area. If you're looking for a brothless noodle dish that can still be very creamy and super flavorful, you'll definitely want to give aburasoba a try at this restaurant! Highly recommend getting the Nikumori Aburasoba if you're a fan of pork and spice.
First time trying today and was an amazing experience. The hostess was very patient with us and answered our questions about the menu. Now I know why this is a Michelin recommended restaurant. Will definitely be coming back soon.
While in Elk Grove, we looked for a lunch spot to hit. We stumbled upon Kajiken, sure glad we were able to eat here. My wife ordered the Roast Beef Arubasoba and i got the the Original. We also ordered the Pozu Karaage. Very unique way to have Ramen and i have to say it was so good. Next time we will definitely try the other options.
This place was absolutely delicious and tasted authentic and perfect. I will be very honest however, I wasn’t really “feeling” this type of food but a friend of mine misunderstood and there we went. However, the noodles tasted perfectly chewy and cooked, the chicken was interesting but delicious, the egg yolk was perfect and the bowl was just right. The outdoor seating was also nice because of the breeze and the staff were respectful, it isn’t super expensive and for the quality I’d say it’s worth it. Would come again, would recommend. Only good things to say (thus far 👀)
The food was really tasty! This restaurant has been on our list of places to try for awhile and I’m glad we did. We came around 8pm on a Friday and we were seated right away. The karaage portion was a little small but had great flavor. The chicken was juicy and slightly crispy on the outside. The noodles were bouncy and had a large portion and delicious flavor
If you like soba style noodles you are going to love Kajiken. Its a kind of brothless ramen style with lots of choices, especially a long list of delicious optionally available additions. There are also rice bowls and other choices if you are not into noodles. Everything is freshly prepared and quickly served. My photo does not show how nicely the food was presented as I was so eager to dig in that I forgot to take a photo until after I started eating. I had the Tantan Aburasoba and it was delicious.
Kajiken in Elk Grove is not a very big restaurant. But it has delicious food, comfortable indoor dining room, and a nice outdoor dining area. The workers are also very attractive. The menu is simple and easy to understand. The parking lot is pretty busy and the restaurant is filled up very quickly. Try to come early or you may have to line up in front of the restaurant.
Everything we've tried here has been so good and lots of flavor. I prefer my egg poached. The chicken karaage is also lightly crisped on the outside but very tender and juicy on inside. Sometimes the line/wait can be long so best to go before 6pm unless you don't mind waiting or eating at the outside tables.
12/2024 Visited on a Thursday around lunch. The shop was somewhat busy - not packed, but not empty either. I ordered the Homura Aburasoba (焔ミンチ油そば) with a slice of chashu on the side. Without tip, it costed about $20. The food came out FAST. Less than 5 minutes and the bowl was in front of me. I've wanted to try aburasoba/mazesoba for quite some time now and I'm glad a shop has finally appeared in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area. It was delicious! All the flavors were really well balanced. Table side condiments were available if you wanted to add more acidity or spice with their vinegar and chili oil. When mixed, it looks like it could be a Japanese style pasta. The portion size is generous. Personally, I would split one order with someone else and explore a bit more of their side dishes in the future. The inside decor was very clean, which is always a good sign. They offer table, window/bar, and outside seating. The restaurant very much reminded me of how some restaurants looked like in Japan. The tableware was nice - it was their own brand of bowls. Would I come back here to eat again? For sure! I could see myself coming back to try some of their other bowls - I'll just have to bring someone else with me to split a bowl or take half of it home! 5 out of 5 bowls of noodles!
Absolutely delicious! I’ve only tried “Top 1” Bowl so far but can’t wait to explore the rest of the menu. There is inside and outside seating, but the place fills up fast because the word is spreading about this amazing food! If you’d like to avoid waiting in a long line, the best approach is to get there a few minutes before they open so you can be seated in the first seating.
First thing to note is their hours. They are open from 1 AM to 2 PM, close, then reopen at 5 PM to 9 PM. If you come at opening time be prepared for a line. I went on a Sunday at 5 PM and there was a line at the door formed. Also, their actual indoor dining isn't big, I actually sat outdoors. The weather was cool and their speakers are at a good volume. Seating is a bit tight outside, however the chairs were very comfortable so that made it better for me. They have a few condiments, a chili paste, thick and dry. Sesame seeds, vinegar, and chili oil. Their chopsticks are self served and set inside the wooden box on the table. I like their plating choices as well. The servers were all helpful and super hip and fun to talk too. The ramen I ordered for my first time was the original aburasoba. This ramen is super creamy and whatever oil they use is very fatty (in a good way) I added no condiments to truly enjoy the flavors however I did add 2 toppings, which were the mushrooms, and corn. Over all I enjoyed the ramen, and it was delicious. I think at night the resturant would be a total vibe and even inside would be nice as well. Hopefully I get seating inside next time and am able to go at night to enjoy the ambiance. No complaints, and I'll Def be going again!

i got the first one on the menu and it was really good. i also added the chili on the side onto my bowl to spice up. the bamboo had a hint of sourness and it balanced the dish out well. quite filling. highly recommend trying out this place :D

My friends and I got here at about 6pm and there was a long line out the door. A server came out asked if anyone wanted patio seating or indoor seating. We also pre-ordered our food to make sure we didn't have to wait that much longer when seated. The food was delicious! I had the nikumoro arubasoba. I was slightly hesitant on the raw egg but when I got the food, I felt that the bowl was really warm so the egg was no longer an issue. The spice isn't too bad, enough for a kick. Not too saucy just enough to coat the meat and ramen. I was a bit sad I couldn't add extra noodles. Wish they let u add extra noodles
bright but cozy little eatery, similar atmosphere to the one in San Mateo. The ika geso was done well. I thought I'd be adventurous and try the karamen abura soba, but I think the volume of chili powder overwhelmed the dish, and I think my noodles were a tad overcooked. the Keema curry abura soba is tempting but I think I'll go back to the original next time. Abura soba is one of my favorite Japanese dishes, and it's hard to beat the original recipe! I'm just glad this finally exists in America, and so very close to home.
We came here on Monday for lunch. Not like the weekend, there is no line and we got a table quickly. We tied the #1 ramen in the menu. You get to choose how you like your eggs, raw, porch or ramen egg. Unlike the regular ramen, it's dry ramen with no soup. The noodle is a bit thicker than I expected. But overall, I like it. Next time, will come here to try different ramen, and maybe rice bowl.
This newly opened Kajiken is always full, but you don’t have to wait too long to get a seat, and there are also outside seats. I usually order Tonkotsu Aburasoba in San mateo, but today I ordered Soboro. The noodles are soft with just the right chewiness, which is delicious. Service was fast and friendly .
We have come twice, first just the two of us and the following week with our 16 and 10 year old. On our own this place is perfect, but I would love the option of a half serving of noodles and an easier way to have more protein added. It is just way too much noodles for me, even though it’s delicious. With the kids, who really liked it, we have some difficulties. One of my kids can’t have pork and this narrows down the menu options considerably; I really hope they add more chicken options very soon, as I would like that for myself and there is currently only the one ground chicken option. Our youngest kid is a kid and she likes only the noodles and nothing else on them. I also think if there was chicken for her noodles she would be very happy. I want to bring the kids again but it feels wasteful since one kid only eats the noodles and you can’t order plain noodles and the other feels left out since she can’t have pork. We have another adult child who would also come and enjoy it if there was chicken because that’s just her preference. So, amazing and delicious, there are no faults to be found in the food as it is, but more menu options and maybe a kid size portion would be really well received.
Great little shop. Food is tasty. If you are looking for traditional broth ramen this place has three dishes, but it is mainly for dry ramen, meaning little bit of broth to coat the noodles but not a soup. Good taste and good portions. I would go again.
Very limited seating. Very attentive staff. Had calamari for appetizer and their spiciest dry ramen, Karamen. The spice had me sweating, but it didn't overpower the flavor of the food. Wife was not happy with Tonkastu. Son enjoyed number 3 roast beef dry ramen.
I'm excited to check out this place today. It didn't disappoint. We came here around 11:30 am. We got seated immediately. Staff were friendly and accommodating. They already have water and condiments on the table. We ordered Original Karaage as an appetizer and it was served not too long. I ordered their Top 1 Homura Aburasoba. It was delicious and tasty. I thought it would be super spicy, but it's not, it's just right. I like their homemade noodles. They also have free tea. Super nice 😁 we will definitely come back here again.
I arrived right when it opened and tables filled up fast. The food is decent and came out quick after ordering. Price point feels like it’s on the higher side but maybe that is average price of ramen now. Service was good and the meal went by without any issues.
I had the Homura Aburasoba, which came with spicy minced pork, green onions, bamboo shoots, seaweed, fish powder, chives, and a raw egg yolk on top. Yummy, not too spicy, and surprisingly not oily. Also tried the Original Aburasoba. It has 2 chashu, bamboo shoots, green onions, and seaweed. It was milder in flavor. Initially, it felt a bit bland, but it tastes better after adding some of Kajiken’s house-made spicy sauce and garlic.
The noodles are delightfully chewy and have a great bite, and the flavor is wonderful. However, the beef rice bowl tastes very similar to a poke bowl, and the meat is cold 😓. The restaurant is clean, but the layout is a bit cramped, with only about 30 centimeters separating the adjacent tables.

Came here for lunch as we were curious to see how this compared to a face shop in Tokyo. There was a line outside. Staff came out to bring water to the guests - that was a very nice touch. Once seated, ordering was fast and easy. Each table had its own Condiments and water. We liked the original aburasoba better than the Homura- the fish powder in the homura tasted offsetting.
The food was good, however, the reusable, wooden, and very porous chopsticks you get from the communal drawers at the tables other guests have rummaged through are pretty gross. From a health perspective, this is definitely not sanitary. Kinda grosses me out to think of what other unsanitary practices or conditions may not be as noticeable. Probably won't be back.
If you’re looking for a nicely balanced tasting meal, this is the place to go to. It’s just the right portion size. But it’s not necessarily the best meal I’ve ever had, considering this is on the Michelin Guide, Bib Gourmand. I do enjoy coming here for that taste of balance, but don’t be prepared for an explosion of flavor from the meal, it tends to have a subtle flavor overall. Staff is friendly but the branch lacks the ability to make substitutions to the meal, though add on’s can be added.
I went to Kajiken on a Sunday afternoon a little before their mid-day close at 1PM and it was a packed house. It was initially unclear whether you're supposed to go up and order first or if you're supposed to wait to be seated, but I walked up to the cashier to ask and she kindly placed us at a seat in front of the window. Once my boyfriend and I decided on our order, it was again unclear if she's going to come back or if we need to walk up and order considering we waited for some time to place our order. So I walk up to the register and ask if I should place my order with her up there which we end up doing. I order the Oroshi Ponzu Karaage & Nikumori Aburasoba (with a poached egg, which was recommended by the cashier). The Oroshi Ponzu Karaage was good, but not exciting. The chicken was good, but the dish definitely could have used more flavor or crunch (to be fair though, the menu does say this karaage is not crunchy so I was prepared at least). The Nikumori Aburasoba (aka Top 2) was good, but not super exciting either. The pork slices were tough, I probably would have enjoyed the dish if it was tender. By this point, I (respectfully) concluded that this is as a Japanese chow mein. I personally feel like the ingredients could have been fresher, it was as if the meal lacked texture. With all that said, the experience & ambiance felt like a fast food restaurant by the way it operates - to the point where it feels like a chain restaurant. I'd say it's a good place to go to if you're looking to fix that noodle craving. I acknowledge that I came here right after trying a couple pastries from the local Japanese bakery so maybe that may have impacted my appetite. I'm not sure I'd return to try more but if you're looking to try this place out, I would say these bowls can be split as I shared this meal with my boyfriend and we are still leaving with left overs. If I could give one feedback to the restaurant around operations, it would be to put a yelp waitlist tablet outside or a sign up sheet as it can get confusing - especially when people are waiting out front to be seated outside which can be perceived as a line.

Both me and my wife had food poisoning at this restaurant, we dined at it twice and each time we had diarrhea after coming here. Our bad for keep coming despite it (one of the few places you can get decent tonkotsu ramen) but I would caution you to not get their tonkotsu ramen because I think that is what gave us the food poisoning.
Unimpressive glorified ramen. It's not good value. Poor service. Nobody came by to see if I wanted more tea, needed another napkin, etc. So many better choices in EG.
Food is delicious but eating here is like Russian roulette with diarrhea; you never know when they've slipped or neglected proper food storage and prep. Chicken karaage is hit or miss but when it hits, it's phenomenal. Don't order the soboro aburasoba. You're guaranteed to get diarrhea or worse. It's probably because nobody orders it so it's sitting around in the fridge for ages. Or they just don't know how to fully cook chicken. Staff are 50/50 delightful/miserable. The half that is miserable acts shocked when you want to order food.
I was so excited to see Kajiken in Elk Grove. My boyfriend and I tried it when it first opened and it wasn't great. The service was good but the food was not worth the wait. But I believe in second chances so today I gave it another try I ordered the roast beef rice bowl and it was disappointing to say the least. The meat was over cooked and extremely chewy. There was little to no flavor in the bowl and eating it felt like a chore. My bowl was 90% rice which is plain unseasoned boiled rice. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
