Opinions de Peony Palace Elk Grove
My fave Mongolian place in Elk Grove, first of all the ingredients are extremely fresh, the bar is kept icy cold, great selection of veggies and the service is excellent. Much better service than anywhere else in town. Plus, you can order standard Chinese off the menu, and cocktails from the bar, win-win.
This place is one of my go to's. Great prices, kind and quick service from every employee, and since the bar stretches around the corner of the restaurant the noise level is kept lower so you can still have a conversation over dinner. The Canton dinner is a steal at $34, we literally got over 5 lb of food, and it's delicious. They also seemed pretty busy but our food only took 20 minutes so we just relaxed on their furnished patio until it was ready to be picked up.
Food is wonderful and service is amazing.
Food is very good and the drinks are strong!
This place is awesome! It was my first time there picking up our dinner order and the girl employee that greeted me within seconds was so funny and awesome! She made me laugh and like we were old friends or long lost cousins! The crowd was laughing and enjoying themselves at the bar and eating area. The atmosphere was uplifting and very classy no drama. I was upset with myself that I didn't order in. Let's not forget the food.. muah.. how do you say.. it was so delicious and well cooked! I didn't want to stop eating and we rushed to have the last bite! We were given plenty condiments, napkins and eating utensils. You didn't feel you had to go next door to order water just to get another napkin!! 10* Thank you Peony
Delicious meals and as usual a lot of food 😋 lol
Sometimes it's good/great, and sometimes exemplary... Tonight it was the latter and I called them after our delivery to share my thoughts on the perfect level of seasoning, Being a 25yr chef and currently health inspector, I thought it was due given the thankless level of work the crew puts in... From my understanding, given it was my late mom's favorite place in Elk Grove, and her raising us in Galt, it's the same pedigree to Hunan House? Not sure on that last front, but love the food.
I love this place. I think they have the coldest Mongolian bbq ingredients in town. The hot and sour soup is really good. And their service is also always good. Even when they are busy. This seems to be a very popular place for locals from the neighborhood. It gives the place a festive atmosphere during the playoffs.
DELICIOUS! The owner or manager is really nice. She makes sure everyone leaves happy. The house sauce is the best! The experience of making your own bowl is amazing. this is definitely a go to place for yummy food. They also play high stakes sports! perfect place to watch a good bball game.
Love peony palace! The salt and pepper pork is my favorite. Bar is fun and staff is super friendly.
Stopped in for the AYCE Mongolian BBQ and just a wonderful little spot! Not busy, good food, nice people!
Food is fresh and you can customize it perfectly. Great place for groups. Vegetarian and vegan options are plentiful. I enjoyed my sweet and sour chicken. They have a full bar if you are into that. All you can eat Mongolian BBQ... YUM
The atmosphere is very casual compared to their slightly more traditional interior. The food comes out very fast compared to other Chinese restaurants and there is a lot more to even their basic dishes than compared to almost all the other Chinese cuisines. Their Mongolian BBQ is extremely generous for the price. Like any other place, you can make your own combination for the sauce but they also have their own arsenal of secret combinations if you don't know what you want. The staff has always been generous and accommodating.
When I looked for when to have my lunch on a Saturday, I found Peony Palace. They have AYCE Mongolian BBQ. I decided to have my lunch there. I received a very nice greeting when I walked into the restaurant and was seated right away. I like the classic dining room. The Mongolian BBQ buffet table and the chef are next to the dining tables. The layout is very convenient. The meats and vegetables are very fresh, and the sauces are yummy. The chief cooked my choices of food in front of me. It was delicious. I love good Mongolian BBQ and know Peony Palace has it now. I will be back!
We stopped by after my sons soccer tournament. He is a vegetarian, so the noodles, vegetables, and egg rolls were perfect for him. Great value and great food. Try the ginger water in your suace, it was fantastic!
They have some of the best Chinese food around! I suggest the chow mein (Indian style). The Mongolian bbq station is good too. The drinks are strong and the bartenders are super nice and friendly. Watched the game here and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Great Mongolian bbq best in elk grove area hands down. My buddy brought me here 20 years ago been going back ever since. If your unfamiliar with Mongolian bbq have the chef sauce up your plate before cooking. Everyone's friendly here highly recommended.

My buddy Jared brought me here about 18 years ago still my favorite Mongolian bbq spot of all time.
It was great food. Clean and nice. And the staff was very friendly. We sat there for 2.5hrs and they didn't even make a fuss about it. Will definitely go back soon again.
One of the best all you can eat Mongolian spots around Sacramento. Tasty options and sauces, recommend the lamb with house sauce.
I can’t praise this Chinese restaurant enough! The service was fantastic, with the staff being attentive, polite, and efficient. We tried the Peking duck, which was crispy and flavorful, and the garlic shrimp, which was deliciously aromatic. Every dish was served hot and fresh, making for a truly satisfying meal. The ambiance was a perfect blend of modern and traditional, with calming background music and Chinese-inspired decor that set a peaceful vibe. It was the ideal setting for a special evening out. I’ll definitely be back for more!
Been coming here since they opened. One of our favorite spots in town. Great family owned restaurant and always amazing food. Can't go wrong with the Mongolian BBQ, the usual go to. Something else I've grown very fond of is their flounder.
The best bbq mongonlia! Me and 2 deaf friends, Jeff and Curtis went there almost every Wednesday! We never get tired of and eating there! Awesome foods!
Been coming here since my husband and I first met 13 years ago ( we were just kids lol ). The staff have become more like family with knowing us by name and watching us grow a family of our own over the years. We always come back due to the delicious food & the awesome service. Can't go wrong with Mongolian EVER.

It's always a good sit down here love the Mongolian BBQ always fresh and cooked in front of you the fried served with it is cooked good the soups are ok not the best but hey BBQ is enough just wish they would give more chips to dip with sweet red sauce but other than thate and my wife love coming here for lunch
Good food! But the place needs some updating and definitely good cleaning and organizing. Service can be a hit or miss.
Man I love this place but the vibe has changed. The servers are always awesome but I'm not sure but the mam cooking the Mongolian was super rude and not pleasant. He used to be kind and funny and would talk to us nice when we come in. I wish I could say he was just having a bad day but this was the second time he was rude when we came in and it just made me feel so unwelcome. Still recommend you should try it out the food is always delicious.
We love going here! One of us gets the Mongolian bbq and the other gets the seasme chicken dinner plate! Noodles are good, love the hot n sour soup, and always quick service
No self serve Mongolian but you get to choose from a list and you get plenty of food. You can take what you don't finish home. Of course you can order from the regular menu as well. Masks are required for all. 50% occupancy for seating so it's well spaced out. I had the salt and pepper shrimp with green beans, yummy. They were out of asparagus but still just as good. Flavored really well. Friend had Mongolian. She asked for extra noodles and wished she didn't. She had way too much. She said next time light noodles, extra veggies. She loves veggies. We both enjoyed our meals. Large portions and had leftovers.
Love Peony palace. Great local Mongolian BBQ. The menu items are decent as well. The bar seems nice as well. Every time I go it has people happily drinking. I don't drink so I can't give a first hand recommendation for the bar.
If you love good Chinese food, this place is it. It even has all you can eat ,Mongolian BBQ 😋 definitely will have to come try that next time. So after a long Saturday of walking at the flee market and doing yard work around the house getting ready to plant, we worked up an appetite since we haven't eaten all day. And we didn't want to cook even though my cooking was pretty awesome! we decided on Chinese food, and we've been meaning to try this place for some time now but never really got to until Saturday night. The restaurant was busy as could be for 6:30pm on Saturday night but we got seated quickly ordered the family meals for two it came with a lot of food for a good price. The food came out fast, and it was delicious. We couldn't finish it all. We were so full it came with soup, 3 different appetizers, fried rice house special chowmein, and two entries. Every single item was delicious. We had leftovers, and we took the rest of it home. I'm definitely coming back to try the Mongolian. Oh, I almost forgot the service was good it could have been great if we had got our water refilled, but it's OK.
We loved going to this restaurant at least once or twice a month. The Mongolian BBQ is tasty with many varieties of meats, veggies, and seasonings. The lines are usually very fast and service is always very good.
Its a good place for lunch hangout or takeout and they also have outdoor sitting although its always been closed whenever I've been there. They do Mongolian bbq during lunch. Its a buffet of meats, veggies and sauces that you can put in your bowl and let the chef cook it right infront of you. Pretty tasty. And not to forget the full bar.....thats always a plus.
This is a great place for Mongolian BBQ. I haven't tried the Chinese side of the menu, but I plan to on my next visit. The best thing that sets this establishments Mongolian BBQ apart is the sauces are not watered down. You do not have to add the spoon of a thousand scoops to get some flavor. Also I saw many people picking up to go orders. This demonstrates the neighborhood is a fan too. This little hidden gem in Elk Grove is a must stop if you like Chinese cuisine or Mongolian. I would highly recommend you check this out for yourself. The only thing was that we had our children with us, and they didn't have a child's soda cup. Other than that it is worth being a child's cup and pouring their drink into it and eat up. I also want to mention that they have a full bar. Some fellas were there eating and watching the game. The atmosphere was not rowdy but it was enthusiastic. We were still able to enjoy our meal and converse in normal inside voice volume.

I've been here a handful of times. I'm reviewing tonight because this is the only Mongolian in Elk Grove that is good. Went to another place tonight and will never return. Here they are friendly, clean, and for those that don't care for Mongolian they have Chinese food. I wish they had a better selection of produce and sauces but I'll still come here over the sizzling not so fresh option on laguna. I would give more stars if they put more produce out :)
We tried out Peony Place after reading good reviews. I’m sorry but I was kind of shocked when the server brought utensils. She handed a spoon, a fork over to me, holding heads not handles. They are not wrapped of napkins. I had a impression it’s not just an accident. We all, customers and restaurants have had excessive experiences of cleanliness over pandemic years. Although we don’t need to be such sensitive to cleanliness, it’s basics for restaurants in terms of serving manners. Food itself is okay, not so impressive, not bad either. Some may like their large portion. But again I would not return again.
This was va VERY big disappointment. I've never had bad, tasteless, mongolian in my life. UNTIL NOW!!! True waste of $42 NEVER AGAIN
Food was fantastic! Magolian BBQ is opened and the line moves very fast. Service was horrible, the waiter yelled at us for asking for a box to take out leftover food home. Very nasty attitude. Will not be returning. Food was all over the floor, food in the bins was all mixed around food a mushroom in my noddle when I am allergic to it.

Terrible service. Food is ok. They charged $5 for xtra bowl of rice.

My third time patronizing this business and it will be my last. Every time I have been over charged, and when I call the wait staff out on the error, the attitudes go horrible. The food is OK, nothing to recommend, but its edible. All three of my visits have been during happy hour and the beer is generally just a few degrees cooler than room temperature. While they do make an effort to clean the tables, there are streaks all over, and the tables smell as if the water in the bucket they grab the rags from is 2 weeks old. The menus left on the table are horrid, disgusting, germ infested Petrie dishes. I have not tried the buffet, and the Mongolian style BBQ does smell good while its being prepared. I just think over the 10 years they have been open, this overcharging has to be consistent with more folks than just me. There are far better Asian cuisine options in Elk Grove within 2 miles of this place. My advice, stay away.
9/6/22 early dinner - the place was empty but very dirty. We didn’t notice until after we paid and started to make our bowls. Lots of cross contamination in the meats, veggies, and sauces. The countertops were so dirty even though there was no other customers. The food is usually good so we didn’t say anything. Today we are both sick from the food yesterday and it was the last thing we ate for the day.
Found a hair in my Mongolian Beef and instead of trusting the customer they argued with me and denied replacing it and giving me the runaround “Oh we’ll ask who you talked to and we’ll call you back.” After someone there said they would. I ordered the next day and found a hair in my fried rice. Didn’t even bother to tell them because I know how they are. Don’t bother going here.
Overpriced for the portion you get for takeout. Waited almost half hour for my food while the lady that works there had to look at my receipt a couple times. Waited at the bar watching football which was nice, but was never asked if I wanted a drink ( I would've gotten a beer if I knew how long I'd be waiting). Asian gentleman sat down next to me and was immediately helped. When the food was finally ready the lady practically threw it at me.
I came at 8:20pm. They refused to give me the service even i have requested for to go but the lady refused if the restaurant is open till 8:30pm
I paid for 2 all u can eat, but the chef wasn’t there to make my food. They still made me pay since I had ordered. Why are you taking my order but saying I cant get any food but still have to pay?? They proceeded to get mad at me saying all this bad stuff. They’re actually too greedy. another time I went I walked in, looked at the menu and when I sat down the short lady kept saying you guys are so indecisive do you want to eat here or not? And I needed a second to think and she got annoyed and said again ur so indesisive.
Hi everyone I would like to share my experience at this restaurant I had on 1/8/25. Male waiter long hair was very disrespectful and rude. Upon walking in to this establishment the waiter looked very upset about something. After he brought me some incomplete items I tried to wave down any waiter I could see.l but I was not attended, I got up beginning of my meal to ask for a straw(1) Mid meal I finished my water and again tried to wave any waiter down so that I can request for more water, when I got up with my glass to the waiter and said to him I understand getting my own straw but I have to get up to get my water too? Instantly he exploded on me saying can’t u see I’m busy (he was arranging his front desk by the way) I kept calm In till his complaining went above my calmness and I told him to get me my check I have had enough. I did say to this individual that if your not happy where you work than quit he than kicked me out and told me not to return. I do hope the owners reach out to me because it is us customers who keep your business a float. I will be contacting BBB. I paid for something I didn’t get to enjoy.
Super rude. I wanted a water refill and waited 40 minutes and I asked her and she yelled at me saying are you blind cant u see im busy?? then I said okay sorry dont need to be rude about it and she called me names. Never coming back!
I usually like Peony Palace until I ordered the salt and pepper calamari tonight. I could taste the fried oil in the batter and the calamari was paper thin. I felt like I was getting ripped off.
