Opinions de Phở 79 Garden Grove
1. This spot is know for pho, but I always get the crispy chicken dish! This is only place I know that sells crispy dish with garlic butter sauce! 2. The spot has chill casual vibes! The interior is very open! 3. The staff were friendly and timely with our order! Pho came out first, and then the rice dishes! Note: Cash Only! Photo: Crispy Chicken with Garlic Butter Sauce
I ordered the ground crab with tomatoes soup base. And it's legit! Adding the shrimp paste made it even tastier. The fried tofu was fresh. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Ice coffee also excellent. Taste strong! Fried spring roll uses rice paper. Authentic. Service is great. The red bean drink was a little disappointed because the beans were overcooked, so it's very thick. I prefer beans to give some texture.
I came here around 11 AM with my family to eat lunch, and I have to tell you, was the best experience! We got seated right away, the staff was very kind and wore gloves for sanitary reasons which was a plus! We ordered Pho number twenty-two, and our order came out in about 10 minutes which surprised me. We also ordered spring rolls, which was amazing as well. The pho noodles were tender, the broth was perfectly fine, tasted heavenly with the lime, and the spring rolls were so FREAKING GOOD! My only two concerns are that there are only three spring rolls in one dish, and the rest are vegetables or herbs. Also, they only accept cash, but it isn’t that big of a deal. Anyways, I will definitely be back! 😁
The service was fast, and we got seated pretty quickly for being a bigger party. The atmosphere was nice, if a bit bustling and high energy. About half of us got pho, and others got rice or other types of noodles. I can't remember the names of any of the dishes that the others ordered, but I got a large Pho Chin with added meatballs and also tried some of the fried egg rolls. The pho was great and very filling! I know there's a lot of pho places in the area, but I think I'd make myself a repeat customer here! (The restaurant is cash only, fyi)
I found Pho 79 via ChatGPT! Before showing up, I heard parking is difficult. Not being a local, this would be the first true Pho restaurant that I ate that was awarded the James Beard Foundation Award AND Michelin award. Sure competition would be fierce in OC for your business and $, I am sure there are others Pho, but … I will tell you, their attention to the details in the product well earned them those mentions awarded. Will be back for sure!
I recently visited Phở 79, located right at the intersection of Hazard and Brookhurst. The restaurant offers a spacious dining area, which makes the atmosphere feel open and inviting. However, a word of advice: the parking lot is quite small and gets very crowded during peak hours. If you visit on a holiday or weekend, expect a bit of a wait. I had to put my name on the list and waited about 30 minutes before being seated, but the line moved fairly quickly. The service was a standout feature of my visit. The staff members are energetic, attentive, and very fast. I also appreciated that they provide complimentary water for the table. Important note: This is a Cash Only restaurant, so remember to bring bills with you to avoid any issues when the check comes! For my meal, I ordered the Bánh Hỏi Thịt Nướng (Fine Vermicelli with Grilled Pork). The presentation was beautiful and very eye-catching. The portion size was perfect—not too much, but definitely enough to feel full. They were very generous with the fresh herbs and vegetables, which I love. The grilled pork was tender and savory, and the dipping fish sauce (nước mắm) was the perfect balance of sweet and salty. The only negative part of the experience was that the floor was quite slippery. I had to walk carefully to avoid sliding. Despite that, the food quality and friendly service make this a great spot for authentic Vietnamese food. I’ll definitely be back
From what I found out that this place is a Michelin Bib Gourmand designation for good quality and value. So we decided to swing by and noticed the line is wrapped around the corner so we ended up ordering to go instead . It turned out to be amazingly good and They gave us tons of meat and noodles . Worth every Pennies and don’t have to wait by ordering to go if you don’t like to stand and wait .
Step 1. Bring cash for this CASH ONLY pho spot. Step 2. COME EARLY before 10:30AM OR be ready to WAIT for a table, especially on weekends where waits can be 1 hour. Step 3. If there's a wait, write your name down on the clipboard waitlist immediately on arrival. (There's no reservations or online waitlist) - Service during our visit was good, but during packed busy times, I can see how service can be lacking. Pho Tai - 5⭐️ (broth was super tasty and rare steak was tender) Iced Coffee - 5⭐️ (perfectly made) Fried Egg Rolls - 3⭐️ (mediocre)
The pho broth is to die for. Not too greasy. Hits all the right notes. Everything - the soup, the meat, the greens - was so fresh and aromatic. And the spring rolls with pork sausage were utterly delicious. I've been living out of SoCal for 13 years and coming back to Pho 79 was a stark reminder of what good pho really tastes like. I honestly forgot what I was missing. Don't forget it's cash only - and come early on a weekday for lunch if you can. Otherwise, parking and waiting are a bit squirrely.
My family took me here for dinner on a Sunday night and it was packed with people lining up outside. Don't forget to put your name on the list when you get there. It's also CASH ONLY. Orders were taken quickly once everyone's seated and the food came out soon after. The broth was very flavorful and the brisket beef slices were quite tender in my pho chin. The greens were fresh too. I ordered the regular size bowl. The larger size bowl is huge. Almost double the noodles and broth. Prices were reasonable too. There's a small parking lot but cars are constantly coming and going so we were able to find a spot after a few minutes of waiting.
The vegetables were fresh, and the pho broth was on the mild side. We had to line up to get in starting at 10:30 in the morning. The smoky flavor of the grilled pork was nice, and my son (6 year old) finished an entire dish at a restaurant for the first time. One negative aspect is that it's cash only.
This place is CASH ONLY, so don't show up with no cash. The broth here is perfectly seasoned and balanced. Just like how vietnamese pho broth should be. Some say it taste like the broth back in vietnam, which I dont doubt but its been a while since I have been back to vietnam so I will go again and see for myself. None the less. I got the number 33 which was the super 79 bowl that included all of the proteins minus the bo vien(meat balls). The bowl was huge, flavorful, broth was amazing, the proteins were amazing. This business is always busy and remember to sign your name on the clipboard at the front before hopping in line because they go by the order of those on the clipboard. By far the top 3 places for pho in orange county, CA, and probably the country. Worth every dollar.
I’ve never had such good pho in my life, in my husband’s words, it’s better than phos in Vietnam. You know a place is worth trying when the restaurant is filled by locals. Rarely do we leave a restaurant thinking “there’s nothing to pick/complain about”. What we tried: • Pho Tai - Perfection, I’ve never tasted this bomb broth before • Bun Cha - Great taste, good for sharing • Che 3 Mau or 3 Flavor bean with coconut milk - good for sharing, perfect sweetness (not too sweet at all) • Soy Milk - Just like it should be from Asia
As a Singaporean who loves Vietnamese food and has lived in Vietnam for months. Pho 79 has exceeded all my expectations. I’ve first heard about this from friends who recommended trying it out but didn’t have much expectations since how good can pho be. Right? I was wrong - pho can be another level up. I’ve never had such delicious broth, and generous serving for the price paid. Also got the Bun Cha which will filled with meat and so so delicious. I’d even go so far as to say that this beats many of the restaurants in Singapore and even in Vietnam. Wow. I’ll be back to LA just for this.
This is one of the best Pho in town, named Pho 79. Mostly you need to queue here but a lot of people willing to queue cos its delicious pho. The important point here, they only accept "CASH", So make sure you bring cash when you eat here. When you come, there will be a small board with paper for you to fill in with your name and how many people for dine in. Then they will call you by the name you wrote. The menu i attached on thr pictures. My recommended menu is Pho Ga which is rice noodle soup with chicken (the chicken are breast) and additional ox tail (no. 39) with that price they give you ox tail. I love it! And dont forget to try the vietnamese coffee or thai ice tea. When finish, you need to go to cashier to pay in cash! They open daily from 07.00am till 09.00pm! (Except Tuesday : Closed)
It's a great restaurant. More than that, the owners are super kind and friendly. We really like the egg rolls and Nem Nuong for appetizers. Pho Special or Tai Bo Vien are delicious. I also like the Garlic butter fried chicken with rice combo (the sauce is very tasty). It's a top rated Pho restaurant in SoCal and you'll see why there's a good line of people waiting to get a table. We highly recommend this restaurant and will try other things from the menu next time. Parking is relatively easy too.
Took a little long to get in, was not the best service at front of house. The location is also cash only 👀 IYKYK haha, otherwise no complaints. Once you get in, the food is top tier. The broth has an excellent depth of flavour, bringing out the goodness of the spices used to make pho broth. Quality of meat is great, zero complaints. Portion is just enough as well. The place has some crazy lines so be warned. If you are going in evening, go to the end of the parking lot and turn right into the strip mall - plenty parking there, doubt anyone checks in evening. 100% recommended.
Pho 79 doesn’t just serve food — it serves history in a bowl. The broth alone could win awards (and it has), with layers so clear and clean you can practically hear it simmering in the kitchen. The spring rolls are plump and unapologetically generous, each one a little bundle of freshness and texture. The grilled pork chops arrive smoky and tender, the rice perfectly fluffed with that heavenly scallion oil on top. This is the kind of Vietnamese comfort food that reminds you why classics stay classics — because they’re done right, every single time.

I went to this place so many times for phở, and my recent visit was satisfying as always. This is where one can get simple, straight forward, authentic bowl of phở.
My first visit. Very flavorful & filling pho. I ordered a medium bowl and had some left to share. Efficient service and the food arrived quickly.

I went at 1:25pm on a Friday and there was no wait. We got seated at 1:30pm and our food was here by 1:35pm. We were out the door by 2:00pm. I got the #21 pho with rare beef and my partner #23 pho with rare beef with well cooked brisket. The pho was really flavorful, warm, and comforting. It felt like they don’t add anything extra or fancy. We will be back again for another dish.

This place was recommended to me. Stopped in town for the night and stopped by to eat pho here. There was no waiting as we got seated right away. It’s a small place and the tables were close to full. They had plenty of staffing to help assist with seating, serving and cleaning. I order the pho 79, which is their combo with everything. I tasted the broth and then the noodles. Within 5 minutes, they brought out the pho. Overall, I expected more. The broth was very plain and I could taste so much of the beef flavor. I don’t like putting in hoisin or sriracha in my pho, but this time I had to in order to actually enjoy the pho. This area is in Little Saigon, which have many other pho places. Parking is also tight and limited as well. After 5 minutes of eating, there was a line to get in. There’s no reservation, first come first serve only. Would I eat here again? No. With me being a visitor to the area and with so many options in the area, this place was not impressive enough to make me want to come back.
