Great old school restaurant. Food is very good and service was great. We were there for breakfast so eggs and bacon. Good stuff. The place has a history to it. Most notably that U S Grant had stayed there at one point. The ceilings are covered with dollar bills and business cards that have been tacked up. St Patrick's Day is a must visit for the corned beef and cabbage.
This place is awesome. Old, unpretentious, feels legit Wild West. The food wasn’t impressive but it wasn’t bad at all either, and often spots like this don’t have food so I’m quite glad they do.
Very friendly, super active, easy going, good food and drinks...local neighborly folks.
Our server was very nice and personable. This is a nice casual place for a quick drink or a nice American meal. The fish and chips were AMAZING the fish was soft and the fries were so good!
Great drinks, Great food fun atmosphere
I usually come here for the prime rib, and have always been happy with the food and service. However, today I brought a friend to lunch and we were both disappointed. We ordered the artichoke cheese appetizer ( which tasted good) but we waited 40 minutes before it arrived. Each of us ordered a green salad, which was an ample portion, but the cucumbers were several days old, limp and mushy. We did request "fresh" cucumbers, and the brought ones that were still not fresh, but not as old as the ones we received first. The server wasn't very friendly, but the busser was nice and responsive. We also waited nearly 15 minutes for our check, even though they weren't terribly busy. I will stick to the prime rib dinners in the future...
This is a very down home. Rural-ish place with great basic American food. Great drinks. Good service. The atmosphere is the kind where there are a lot more men than women. Although a few families. It's a great vibe, but I certainly wouldn't start talking politics with anyone. Love it!
Excellent experience of having lunch passing by. No matter that the place was full of people, there still was a nice table for us. The stuff was very attentive and careful with our not easy dietary restrictions. The food was very good, huge portions, excellent service. Amazing impression. Highly recommended.
We had dinner there last night . Salad and beef vegetable soup, chicken leek soup were delicious . The half fried chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies were so good .I loved the brown gravy. The short ribs were excellent . Our server Mattie was wonderful and she was so attentive . It was our first time eating there and we will be back . The dinner prices were reasonable too .
I had a wonderful ribeye and my husband had the prime beef a couple of nights ago. The food we had was great and my steak and his prime rib were cooked perfectly and were delicious. It was a little noisy, we were with a large group and conversation was a little difficult, perhaps it was because the live music had started. But, with the great food and dancing what else could anyone need to celebrate a birthday. They also do a really great breakfast, I especially love their chicken fried steak.
What a great place! Food was really good. Steak fries are addictive! The tomatoes/lettuce on the burger were fresh. Other party had the French Dip and enjoyed it. Lots of locals. Bar was full of truckers and construction guys. Will certainly be back.
Great oysters, got both the garlic butter and the bbq. The clam chowder was also great and very thick. Fun atmosphere, seems like a local spot
From the moment we walked in, until the moment we walked out, we loved everything. Our server, Becky, knew the menu like the back of her hand. When we told her it was our first time to Washoe House, she told us about its history and even got the key to show us upstairs. The bathrooms were clean and spacious but still maintained the old building charm. The food was great! The Western Chicken Soup was freshly made the same day. The burgers were big, juicy and flavorful. Extra avocado on the burgers was generous; not just a little slice, but probably half an avocado. During the short wait for food, we were entertained with looking at all the unique things tacked to the ceiling. Washoe House is a real treasure. Definitely a place we'll take company next time we're in the area.
We are longtime customers of the very unique Washoe House, and it's a real treat whenever we are in the area and can have brunch, lunch or dinner there. The food and drink are amazing: especially the fried chicken, hamburger and BBQ'd oysters. The service is always great (shout-out to C.T.!), and the atmosphere is heavy with both historical accents and quirkiness.
I got the fish and chips, a little on the thin side, but it was flaky and delicious and came with very good steak fries. My friend really liked what she got as well. I can't remember what that was. The server was very nice and down to earth. Other than turning left out of the parking lot, I highly recommend the Washoe House
Quaint restaurant & pub in the Sonoma wine country. I have stopped here many times on my way to Bodega Bay for breakfast..it is quite popular, as every time I have been here, there's quite a crowd. The food was great and reasonably priced, the service was a bit slow on a couple of occasions. I highly recommend this place and I will stop again when I am visiting the Pacific Coast.
Fun old school restaurant and bar food is very good.Prime rib is very good on Friday and Saturday and reasonably priced. Shrimp salad is excellone and service is always very very good. Bar is old school and fun always crowded. They've been open for breakfast as well. The last couple years and breakfast is also very very good.
Best artichoke dip ever! Cheese curds were great too.
My server Chelsea was very nice and attentive good meal good plate of food for the money I recommend it
Service was great, menu’s are independent for each time of the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) Loved the Jalapeño burger and ginger ale drink. Atmosphere is really nice and they have a bar too.
Best. Bar. In. The. World. From the people, to the drinks, to the music, to the atmosphere, to the decor - this place doesn’t miss! 10/10
Had dinner at the Washoe House today and it was absolutely amazing! The steak was cooked to perfection, top-notch quality, and packed with flavor. The service was outstanding – super friendly and attentive. I also loved the authentic American vibe and cozy atmosphere. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal and a true local experience!
Cool historic old bar / restaurant that's got a great vibe, good food and friendly staff. Eaten here a few times now and the food is consistently good with generous portions. The chicken Marsala and lemon herb chicken might be my favorites but the stew with polenta and burger, and the pork chop are all good choices. There's the bar side and then also a dining side. Fun to imagine that this place has been around for like 150 years or something now.
Heading back to the California Foothills after spending a few days in Bodega bay. We were really hungry and looking for some breakfast. We happen to see the Washoe house right on the side of the road. The reviews were pretty poor but upon entering we are greeted by a nice older gentleman behind the bar and when we sat we were immediately greeted by our waitress who took drink orders. The atmosphere is a dive bar but the tables were clean as well as the silverware and the service was polite, prompt and friendly. I ordered eggs sausage and Country potatoes, my wife ordered the breakfast burrito with a side of hash browns and my daughter ordered the pancake egg and bacon. All were cooked perfectly. Everything came out hot and fresh. We were so thrilled with this experience we will absolutely make it a ritual when we're turning home from the coast. Can't say enough good things about this little hole in the wall even the bathrooms were clean. Can't wait to go again.
Food was good for the price. The atmosphere what kool 😎 . The seating was odd but cozy. Had the prime rib great for the price and the spaghetti was really good. 👌
This place is the epitome of a great establishment. Getting up and going down the road (walking distance) and getting breakfast along with a bloody Mary is pretty my best way to start a day. Good food, good people, and great bartenders. Sometimes it'll be wayyyyy packed with people and you can't even hear yourself think. On those nights I just get a couple of beers and shots then head home. Great atmosphere! If you've seen this place driving by but never stopped in, you should make the time to check it out. Any issues I've ever had there (with food or a wrong drink) they've always made it right. They care about the customer and it shows. I'll be coming here the rest of my life!
Coming back from the beach, this was a must stop. They were very busy, but our server was as kind as could be, and was extremely thoughtful towards our toddler. The bbq oysters were a hit
Interesting old rural inn - well, no longer has rooms but good food and quite the lively atmosphere. Definitely mostly locals from the surrounding area, so very fun.
Wonderful place to share a meal with comfortable atmosphere and character. Several tasty selections, and I had the country fried steak, which was delicious.
Food is ok, nothing to rave about. But earable.
Bartenders & waitstaff are wonderful. I used to come several times a month & everyone was wonderful. Now, because of familial circunstances, I'm only able to come every three or four months now. The staff still treats me as family. I will always be a "regular" no matter how often or how seldom I come. My grandson & I 💖 this place!
If you’re looking for a unique historic place you’re in for a treat. Established back in 1850s you’ll see so much history as you walk in. First thing to capture your attention are the dollar bills stuck to the ceiling through out the bar area. It certainly takes you back in time and get your mind wondering who, when, and how they posted these dollar bills up there and why. Our server told us it all goes back to the gold rush era and explained more but I let you find out for yourself. Great ambiance and history, however as far as the food goes, is just another roadside diner.
Pretty fast service. A bit light on the gravy (chicken fried steak). But it was really good.
Great biker bar. It was packed while I was there, so the experience could have been better. The menu and food smelled delicious but I wasn't there for dinner. Give it a try,
Good food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. Reminds me of a restaurant where I from that my buddies and I enjoy going to. The locals at the bar were great and inviting as well.
Thanksgiving meal was good. Service ok and I understand since they were extremely busy and we needed reservations
I had a Philly cheesesteak that was super wonderful. My son had a steak sandwich, which he really enjoyed. Waitstaff was nice, quick with refills, and very friendly. They have a ruckus bar area and quiet quaint tables if you aren't into that bar scene. Would recommend and have recommended.
A true turn back time kind of experience. Good food. Good service.
I was on my way to do some video shooting on the coast of Sonoma. I was coming from Oakland, CA and unfortunately, I forgot to eat breakfast. I told myself along the way that if I saw a spot that sold breakfast, I would go in. This happened to be that place. And I'm sure glad I stopped in. It has a unique atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Dollar bills are nailed to the ceiling and everyone looks at you for a moment. It's a bar but also serves food. And since it seems to be the only one in the area for a few miles, it was packed with townspeople. I bought a beacon, egg and cheese sandwich and man oh man... It was DELICIOUS! I'm not exaggerating either. This was the best breakfast sandwich I've had since living on the west coast. I highly recommend stopping in if you're ever in town.
Washoe house was a great find. We went for Valentine's day lunch. We drove by at least a few dozen times and did not have time to stop before. They have a old bar inside with a few regulars and seating in 3 rooms. We ate garlic butter cooked Oysters and garlic fries. Great. We'll definitely stop again!!! All kids of new and old money tacked to the ceiling.
Not from the area but so glad we stopped. It's full of history. We had a great meal and staff took care us. Would like to go back for their BBQ Oysters.
Great historical location with amazing staff and tremendous food and drink value! I even think the bar was in a scene from a Clint Eastwood movie! I will absolutely return had a blast!
Ate the fish and chips. Fish was A+, the chips were sad. Looks like they were made in house, which i love, but they were limp. Service was awesome, what you would expect from an old roadhouse. Attentive, and Abit snarky. Place drips history, and the local regulars are the perfect complement. My cowboy neighbor I took with me said it was the best prime rib he's paid for. Just sad French fries...
Fun stop in Petaluma area! Walked in and there's thousands of dollar bills on the ceiling. No one quite knows the story behind it. Told me I could prob look it up. Bikers and babes already at the bar for a beer at 10 am on a Sunday morning. Breakfast burrito was da bomb. Fun biker stop.
So, I was driving down stoney point road in Santa Rosa towards Petaluma, when I came upon this old red building. It was two stories and it said tavern on it. I got curious and stopped. It was called the Washoe house and it was a bar and restaurant. I had to try it out. It was a locals place, out among the farms and ranches. A place much like the places I grew up around in Monterey county. Very cool escoteric atmosphere. If you like bars and restaurants that are unique and historical, this is one of these places. In operation since the 1850's. I took a look around the 🏫 lding, and then the bar and dining area. A number of locals were eating and drinking at the bar. The menu was simple, but all home made soups. Prices were ok. I had a beer, french dip and their home made potatoe soup, plus 2 bbq oysters. I could tell the soup was home made by the cream texture, thickness of the soup and the size of the vegetable chunks. If your are traveling the back roads of Sonoma county, I suggest place for a meal and to look around.
Stopped here on the way home from our coastal vacation for breakfast. Upon entering the restaurant, we realized it is also a bar. Everyone is very friendly and service was very good. The menu is simple, but still has many of the main dishes we were looking for. I ordered the chorizo skillet and my husband order the chicken fried steak. Both meals were great and no complaints. The bar is very unique, it has money hanging everywhere from the ceiling. Appears to be a local favorite.
Hearty portions of fried food. I ordered the fried cheese curds off the appetizer menu. There was enough on the plate to feed six people, for dinner! I didn’t have much room to eat anything else. I had to take the chicken tenders to go. They make a great bloody Mary. Service was decent. People were very friendly. Overall, it’s a neat little place.
Walked in at 415 on a Wednesday. Lots of locals, bar full of patrons but several open tables. Looked like a fun place. Took a seat and waited for about 15 mins. No one approached. No signs about service or directing patrons. Appeared that there was one only one person on duty but I’m not certain. Tried to make eye contact with the bartender but she seemed hurried or overwhelmed. Place looks great I wish i had the opportunity to try the food. Might try again.
The atmosphere was just nasty and the food was just absolutely disgusting and it was cold and it took about 40 minutes just to get drinks
We found the burgers quite terrible. I will not come back here again.
The service during the day couldn’t be any worse. The food is mediocre -avoid the fries. They’re both soggy and burnt— The bartender might get you one drink but don’t expect her to ever come back. She’s busy talking and standing around.
It is pretty clear not all the wait staff are trained. Our bartender ruined the experience for us and appeared stoned. He didn’t know the menu, ignored us multiple times, didn’t give us silverware, forgot things we ordered, etc. It’s also worth mentioning the bar is not 21+ and has screaming kids.
The washoe house is a great sonoma county name. It meant good food great atmosphere. I say this in pass tense. The food is awful, walking to seat ourselves there were many tables pushed against walls miss placed chairs that are ripped and discolored. I sat and watch another table try and change light bulbs for their table while waiting for the one server to come say hello. She was working her butt off I dont fault her for being inattentive she was the only server. My dinner was completely disgusting I had the ravioli. The pasta was hard and the meat inside was mystery meat. My friend had the fried chicken. You could tell how dry it was just watching the dust fall off as he tried to pull a piece off. The bar drink we recieved had no alcohol in it, seriously no one was fooled. It use to be a great place to take a date have special moments at. I will never return. The flavor of the food is aweful. Go to chills at least they staff better even of the food is questionable.
Food was okay, but the service was terrible, waitress never even brought me my drink, after waiting for her to bring it for 45 minutes I had to go up to the bar and get my own. Also, never brought me my soup and still try to charge me for it and told me I could just take it home for a snack! Wth. Hopefully they get organized and some new wait staff
If you like being overcharged for a plate of food covered in flies then this is the place for you! My server was very sweet and attentive… but that’s where the good review for this place ends. The food was very mediocre. I got a chicken sandwich that was completely drowned in BBQ sauce and absolutely not worth the $20 I paid for but worse than that, the entire restaurant was “FILLED” with flies. Not only did me, my mother, and my grandmother have to continuously swat them away from our our faces and eyes but they kept landing on my food whenever I wasn’t swinging my hands to keep them away. I couldn’t even finish my sandwich because it was too disgusting to see them all over my food. I was told that it was normal to have flies in the restaurant (by the staff) as “there were a lot of ranches and farms in town”… this excuse is absolutely not except-able!! Go to any other restaurant in Petaluma and I guarantee you won’t see the infestation that I saw today. I genuinely hope that the restaurant sees this review and feel ashamed for letting the situation get as bad as it is. If they’re so comfortable with that many flies in the front of the restaurant, I can’t imagine what they’re okay with going on in the kitchen. I will forever use them as an example of one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been to. If I could give it negative 5 stars, I would have!!!!!
Waiting for our food on Father’s Day a couple came in 20 minutes after we were there they received their food. The waitress tried to tell us that the cook bumped their order in front of us. Also, all four hamburgers came, They were cold so they’ve been sitting out for a while, and the waitress kept saying that they just cooked them, which was a lie. Highly recommend that if you go and your food is cold send it back cut it up so they don’t just microwave it
Unfortunately the dessert was awful. Hard as a rock. Have always enjoyed the food, but not this time.
We had luch. Went in because the sign said BBQ Oysters. However there were no oysters on the menu at all. We both had the cheeses teak sandwich. Not impressed and we both were sick the next day with stomach issues. Poor quality poor cleanliness poor custom very Disappointed. Tricked and disappointed.
For decades my family has enjoyed eating and listening to music at the Washoe House until we had dinner last night. Saturday was busy as usual but the service and our meals were horrible. The fried chicken dinner usually has 4 big pieces, a thigh, breast, wing and drumstick. My dinner had small tough pieces that weren’t recognizable, but I think the cook must have substituted a chicken back full of bones for the chicken breast! My partner had the normally delicious chicken Alfredo pasta dinner but it was too cold and garlicky that he couldn’t finish it! We wanted to tell the waitress but she was literally not available and so overwhelmed she was venting to us and other the customers. Unfortunately I can’t recommend this place for dinner anymore.
We basically paid $12 for 5 gas station chicken strips. Fish and Chips - not enough seasoning, not the "large portions" the waitress stated. Waitress was nice and the building was cool, but definitely not stopping by here again.
