Great spot for seafood. The waitress was very friendly, helpful and attentive. All the food was good but would say the best was the corn and crab bisque. The crab cakes are also really good and flavorful. The Chilean Sea Bass was grilled perfectly along with the green beans; however, I wasn't a big fan of the sauce on the fish so would ask for a butter sauce next time. Overall, a good first experience.
Eugene's is one of my favorite restaurants. I have not found anything on the menu I don't like. The seafood is always fresh. The oysters are delicious, any way you choose to have them. The service is outstanding and you never feel rushed. Unlike so many other restaurants, you get sides inckuded with your meal. Such a great value. I highly recommend!
Fantastic Happy Hour at Eugene’s! My wife and I stopped by Eugene’s for Happy Hour and had an awesome time. The fresh oysters were perfect, the Boudin Balls were rich and flavorful, and the wine list didn’t disappoint. The bartender was great — friendly, quick, and easy to chat with. The place itself looks fantastic inside too. We’ll definitely be back!
Dinner with the girls last night was exceptional! We ordered the crab cakes for the table to be shared and the crab fingers. The crab cakes reminded me of how my Mom used to make them, loaded with fresh crab meat and with the spices of Old Louisiana! Next time I will order the crab cakes all to myself! The crab fingers were sauteed in a lemon garlic butter served in a delicious sauce that we mopped up with their garlic bread. We came for the Seafood but one friend ordered a steak that was cooked to perfection! The owner came by our table to say hello and introduce himself. He suggested we order the white chocolate bread pudding. It was authentic New Orleans style, amazing flavors and texture. I don’t how it can get any better than that! And to top it off our Service was first rate, our waiter had us wanting to taste all of their in house made desserts after he described each one! We will be back for another girls night out!
This was our second time coming, our first time was really amazing as well, I love this type of cuisine, right up my alley, ran I to a client of mine that frequents there as well. Great drinks ,delicious food, wonderful service. ( jenny) and deserts! Love this place, dinner and able to have a conversation without distractions..t.v at the bar for happy hours as well. The poblano soup to die for, seafood gumbo, stuffed flounder, lump crab over asparagus and keylime over cheesecake..
We celebrated my sister’s 55th birthday at Eugene’s, and it was an unforgettable experience. Lunch was spectacular, and Aldo delivered top-notch service from start to finish. We started with crab fingers, oysters on the half shell, and BBQ shrimp—each appetizer was incredibly fresh, full of flavor, and beautifully presented The valet attendants took great care of us and made parking effortless. I recommend using the service even when it’s not busy—it’s a great convenience that adds to the overall experience. Eugene’s offers not just amazing food but also a relaxed atmosphere where you can truly enjoy a conversation without being overwhelmed by loud music. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!
A culinary masterpiece awaits! From the first bite of their crafted crab dip to the last morsel of the perfectly executed pecan-crusted snapper, this family-owned establishment delivers a symphony of flavors. Their wine selection was also on point. Though dessert tempted us, we were full so will plan better next time 😉 This unassuming local treasure offers what chain restaurants can only dream of replicating, genuine service and authentic passion on a plate. An absolute must-visit for anyone seeking extraordinary dining!
I had a wonderful dining experience at Evgeniy’s restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was attentive throughout the evening. I tried several dishes including the baked oysters, snapper topped with crab, and a beautifully done crème brûlée for dessert. Every bite was full of flavor, and the presentation was excellent. The prices were also quite reasonable — I paid $99 in total for everything. Highly recommended for seafood lovers looking for quality and taste in a cozy setting!
I came for a girls night date night this last Friday and it was wonderful. Expect valet, or arrive early enough to find street parking in the neighborhood if you're driving. From the moment I stepped onto the sidewalk, everyone was incredibly friendly and very helpful. The food has huge portions, and is amazing and very reasonably priced for what you receive. Our server was so fantastic and patient with our indecisiveness, and helped guide us in the right direction. The restaurant is larger than I expected after seeing it from the outside, but still very quaint AND also elegant. Highly recommend for date night, be it romantic or girls night
Eugene’s Gulf Coast Cuisine is a hidden gem in Houston. While the restaurant is definitely lively and full, it’s seems not everyone knows about it and it’s gatekept, for great reason. My wife and I came here for my birthday and were not disappointed in the least. We started off with the Stuffed Jalapeños, you get 4 and it’s served with a garlic type dipping sauce. Very delicious! My wife had the Crab Madison, which came with two sides of choice. She had Garlic bread and broccoli. Would definitely get again. I had the 14oz Ribeye with sides of pecan yams and french fries. It very well may have been the best ribeye I’ve had in a long time. It’s cooked over hickory and oak. You can really taste it meat. It was full of flavor, cooked to perfect medium-rare, and the fat was rendered just right! I paired it with Lagavulin 16 year scotch. Tremendous! The vibes in the restaurant were excellent, a bit older of a crowd, but that’s not a bad thing! A great place to enjoy an excellent relaxing meal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Just a great experience for my friend’s birthday dinner. Staff was great about adding seats as our party unexpectedly grew by a few people. Food was phenomenal, 7 people everyone thought their entrees were great. Server was great and everything ordered came out correct. This place isn’t on a main road but should be on your radar. I’ll be back for sure, would be a great date spot.
This was the first time at Eugene's Gulf Coast Cuisine. Come early as parking is hard to find. However they do offer valet. I don't know the price. As we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome from the hostess. We did have reservations and strongly recommend making reservations beforehand. The deco was really nice and very open. The staff was kind and hospitable. The food was amazing, it's a restaurant I would definitely come time and time again to try different things on their menu.
Came for an impromptu lunch - just trying out the place because it’s close by. Has an old school vibe to it and sat at the bar for lunch. Ordered the stuffed shrimp with onion rings and dirty rice. All of the food was good. The shrimp (2) were enough because they were truly stuffed - minimal breading and lightly fried. I think the O rings are a big deal - they’re definitely good and they served plenty. Had the house Pinot g which was perfectly fine as well.
- [ ] I would quite literally go here just for the happy hour on the fresh oysters. It’s been awhile since we’ve had oysters that reminded us of our time in NOLA, and this place does it right. They are so fresh and plump. The boudin balls were decent, honestly it could have been a little more crispier. The remoulade was perfect though. To drink, I got the Ruby’s Prosecco (St. Germain, an ice ball filled with orange juice, muddle berries and mint, then topped with prosecco) it was a light and refreshing cocktail, and as time goes on the ice slowly melts releasing the other flavors. For our mains, I got the Pecan Crust Rainbow Trout with Asparagus and the Twice Baked Potato. The fish was cooked perfectly, and I loved the Bianca sauce. I thought it complimented it perfectly. My. Husband got the special which I can’t remember if there was a septic name to it but it had some Scallops and topped with Lump Cramb Meat in a light butter sauce. He enjoyed it, but I think he lucked out because he was originally going to order the Ribeye but our waiter told us the specials so he went with the scallops. Overall, the service was great. It’s a nice little place that gave us a little piece of NOLA without having to travel the extra 5 hours.
I finally tried this place after hearing about it constantly since they opened. Eugene’s happy hour menu is one of the better ones in the River Oaks area. Fresh Gulf Oysters on the half shell are $1.25 a piece. Half a dozen is only $7.50 and a dozen is $15. The oysters were very fresh and plump. Priced at $12.95 the Calamari Dillon appears to be expensive for Happy Hour but the bartender informed me that it is a full order which normally goes for $16.45. I found the Calamari fried to perfection and was not chewy at all. The portion was quite large and is perfect for sharing. The Catfish Pieces were decent and the Boudin Balls were okay. The Mini Crab Cakes were tasty. The 4 ounce Happy Hour Angus Beef Burger is the perfect size for Happy Hour. The $7 house wine is reasonable considering that my bartender was quite generous with each pour. I had the Surf and Turf (Gulf Coast Style) for dinner. My 8 ounce Filet Mignon was cooked to my specified medium rare plus. It was one of the better steaks that I have had recently. It was very tender. There were four fried shrimps on top of the filet mignon which added to the enjoyment of my meal. My two sides were sautéed spinach and French fries. Simple. But both made my entrée very hearty. For dessert we ordered the Crème Brûlée and Hazelnut Ice Cream Affogato. The Crème Brulee was pretty standard but I really liked the Affogato. It is one of my favorite dessert items. I will order it if it’s on the menu. Eugene’s is a very pleasant and comfortable local restaurant. It is upscale but not fussy. Service is good. I will be back to try many of the other items on the large menu.
Unfortunately, I line up with reviews about expectations for a seafood house. The price didn’t align with my service experience, the quality of food, or the portions. Particularly the Mariscada—which I found had little seafood and was overcooked. The space is beautiful and has had many lives—like someone else mentioned I would probably only come back for Happy Hour.
First time here for all in our group. Nice late afternoon meal. Four in our party. Very quaint interior which we all loved. Food was good, but not to where we’d put it at the top of our best restaurants in Houston. This is a nice, upscale neighborhood restaurant. Valet parking here. Huge menu. Thought pictures of food on their website looked better than what we received. One order was an error, but server corrected immediately. One person ordered yams as a side and said they were best they’d had. Service was a bit sluggish at times but on the flip side, we were not rushed one bit and had time to visit with our friends on our last night in Houston before returning home to Florida. Gumbo was standout among all of the meals. Update: one person in our group ordered the salmon. They suffered all night with acid reflux/heartburn leading them to believe them the smoke flavor of the salmon was artificial and sprayed on the fish.
I had a bitter after taste leaving the restaurant heading home. Not sure why. I ordered two items for HRW Saturday brunch menu: 1) crab stuffed jalapeños and 2) Kyle’s crab salad. Both were mediocre at best. Bacon saved the day for the salad since the dressing wasn’t doing the job. Nothing was outstanding.
Today we went for Houston Restaurant Week (HRW) . It was a very disappointing experience. My friends and I wanted to try a new place during HRW and this turned out to be the least exciting and least quality filled experience. We all ordered the 2 items from the HRW menu, $25 each, plus additional drinks and items from happy hour. I got the crab stuffed jalapenos, $1.25 oysters, and Croquilles Saint-Jacques. The crabcaked served with the saint-jacques were more bread than crab, the scallop was tough and out of the food items ordered, the only decent tasting (flavor and quality) was the crab stuffed Jalapeños. The oysters were gulf, sub-par and tasted old. The shrimp from the shrimp cocktail tasted as though it was not fresh or had been sitting out because it tasted dry and hard. Our server, though very nice was very un-attentive. I'm not sure if it may have been a lack of experience or lack of management. It looked as though the service staff were chicken with their heads cut off because there were no active managers on the floor or "table - tapping" to ensure quality and service. Additionally during our time there we saw that the other table next to us that he was in charge of had to consistently get his attention for service, even though he had taken our order then turned to leave without checking on them as well. At the end of the meal I asked for food To-Go, I always get my father food from new places so he can try. He got the catfish pieces and a side of red beans and rice, the total amount of his food came to $20. Pictures are attached but for this price this is not worth it. The icing on the cake was, I tried the catfish pieces and they were unseasoned, breading falling off, and TASTED EXTREMELY FISHY. If you are a fish lover you know this means the fish is old and possibly against health violations. Overall it is sad that this place is so close to me but I have decided never to be a patron of this establishment again. I do not want to give this place a chance if the owners and managers do not take this seriously.
