We wandered into this restaurant while visiting. What a neighborhood gem! The burgers were well seasoned and very tasty. One of our group had the street tacos and raved about them. We then went to brunch on Saturday. The bloody Marys were awesome! The serving size of the meal was huge. I ate the Lox and bagel and was beyond full. The brisket hash was delectable. Do yourself a favor and find this little slice of heaven when you are in the Houston Heights area.
I LOVE this place. I've been a fan since 2006. I just wish the old guy bartender (shorter failed skater vibe) would be nicer to customers. I only have issues with service when this guy is on the schedule. I've walked in before, seen him behind the bar, and continued to walk towards Bobcat's or Tailgate's. I'm hoping he gains a bit more respect during Crawfish season, because I LOVE the vibes of the patio and DJ but rather deal with Smoother customer service. If I'm spending money on drinks and food, I expect to feel welcomed, not rushed.
I enjoyed onion creek. It was my first visit and if I have the chance I'll be back. I had chicken and waffles and it was pretty good. The place is pretty much self serve. You order from the bar and they bring out your food. After that you're on your own for refills and such. I guess you could go back to the bar for help. I liked the music which was mostly 90's alternative like Soundgarden, STP and the like. It was a little hard to have a conversation over the music, but we were inside. They have a lot of outdoor seating. I saw a lot of people with there dogs. Which I love.
We went for dinner on a Thursday night. Not too crowded. Plenty of outdoor seating with nice patio lights and fans. Food was phenomenal!! I had the turkey burger with roasted cauliflower and Parmesan fries as an appetizer. Everything was perfection. My whole table was talking about how good the food was.
my husband and i were looking for a place to grab lunch on a friday afternoon and we came across onion creek. we looked it up online and decided it was cool place because the menu was really expansive and we didn't know what we were in the mood for. when we walked in, we were greeted by a yound lady behind the bar, super friendly and helpful answering questions as we decided what we wanted. my husband ordered the brisket frito pie with a side of the hand battered onion rings and i ordered the beyond burger with the hand battered onion rings. the food was really good and we walked away with half of the portion to have for dinner. we also had the blueberry lemonade, good, but really sweet. plenty of seating inside and covered seating outside. we will definitely be back!
Fun and cozy atmosphere with tons of vintage decor and plenty of outdoor seating as well. They have the best root beer, tasty fries, and the burgers were pretty good. Make sure you know what you’re ordering as soon as you approach the counter. This was an extremely slow night on a Saturday, and the bartender was pretty annoyed we weren’t going quicker for him. Other than that, it’s a fun spot to hangout.
I have now tried both Onion Creek's dinner and brunch without disappointment. The chicken and waffles are highly recommended as even the skin on the chicken has a sweet, but savory taste with high quality chicken, and the waffle is the perfect amount of fluff and sweetness without the syrup! The dinner is to die for with a great variety of burgers and different kinds of toppings. I highly recommend anything on the menu so come and give Onion Creek a try with a date or friends!
Good place. Order at the bar and drinks are fast and food is delivered to your table. I like this process. Tacos were very good, wings were good. Wish they were hotter (and I always do) but they had hot sauce to add to them. It was trivia night and I've never done this type of thing before but it was fun.
Cute fun, eclectic eatery with a huge outdoor eating area. Always something to do every day of the week. Good food There seem to be some discrepancy with tips – – either at the front register or with the waiter. Supposedly, everything gets split. Fried cauliflower were good. Cobb salad was special – nothing basic about it. Too much lettuce, spines and yellow lettuce for my liking, though Jive turkey look good. Ask for a child’s menu. Menu changes often – seasonally.
Delicious food and friendly staff. Loved the outdoor seating area. The apricot tea was a wonderful twist.

We ordered a full order of boiled mushrooms, but only got a half order. No one seemed to know how much a full order versus a half order was but we know the first order that was supposed to be a full order was only a half order because we ordered a full order later and it was twice as much clearly. You have a side bar. That’s great because the line for the main bar was pretty long and seemingly slow. No one was going to the side bar. So I did. And found out why. It was extremely limited on what they had. In fact, I think they only had three beers: Bud Light, ultralight, and an IPA. When ordering a vodka drink, I wanted cranberry and they didn’t have that. I tried ordering one of their specialty drinks that they had advertised, but he said he didn’t have the stuff for that over there. He asked if I was OK with house vodka and I asked if he had Tito’s. He said no… He only had two other options, one of which was deep at grapefruit and another vodka, which I had never heard of. If you’re gonna open the bar over there, which is a good idea on busy weekends… You’ve got to stock it properly. Don’t do it if you can’t do it right. Nevertheless, the mushroom mushrooms were tasty. We just felt a little cheated. And the specialty cocktail at the main bar were delicious. I’ll be back but wanted to share my experience and hopefully someone there will read these and do something different as a result.
Onion Creek has a really relaxed, outdoorsy vibe that makes it easy to hang out and enjoy your time. The patio area is a big plus, especially when the weather is nice. Food was good, simple, and satisfying, and the drink selection was solid. It feels like a great neighborhood spot where you can meet friends, grab a bite, and stay for a while. Definitely a place I’d visit again.
I love this place. It’s a basic neighborhood spot. Good burgers, great chicken sandwiches, pretty good brisket for the type of establishment. Steak night is hit or miss— great drinks. The restaurant is largely counter service, you order at the bar and they’ll bring your order out to you. The staff is extremely wishy washy. Sometimes they’re friendly, other times they’re rude. Not a fan of most of the bar staff, due to the varying degrees of customer service. However, it could never make me hate onion creek.
Stopped by Onion Creek before a show at White Oak Music Hall — perfect little pre-concert hangout. The place has an easy, laid-back vibe: clean, spacious, and a chill outdoor patio that just feels right on a warm Houston evening. It’s counter service, and the person taking our order was awesome — friendly, quick, and knew the menu. Food came out fast and hit the spot. I had a cheeseburger and onion rings — fresh bun, perfectly seasoned beef, crispy rings… zero complaints there. Drinks were just okay, but good enough to sip on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Overall, a solid spot to grab a bite and unwind before the music starts. Would definitely come back.
A small restaurant with more outdoor seating than indoor. The food is tasty. We were a large group of over 50 people, and there was only one person taking orders. After a long line, they finally opened a second register almost at the end. But it’s a nice place to sit outside and chat during certain times of the day when it’s not too hot.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ My wife and I, along with some friends, went to Onion Creek Café this past Sunday for brunch, and it didn’t disappoint. 🍽️ The chicken and waffles are definitely not a mess 🍗🧇, and the Bloody Marys—especially the spicy one—are *perfect* 🔥🍹. I love how the setup works: you order from the bar 🍻, grab your drinks, and then they bring your food to your table, whether you're inside or enjoying the outdoors ☀️🍃. It can get a bit busy on the weekends ⏳, but everything moves quickly. Patience is key, and trust me, it’s worth the wait 👍. Don’t be shy about trying something new here; everything we've had has been delicious 😋. The brisket, in particular, surprised us—tender, juicy, and beautifully smoked with just the right hint of flavor 🐄🍖. The ambiance is spot on, whether you’re inside or outside 🪑✨. Pro tip: if you want a specific table, especially inside or a prime outdoor spot, it's smart to reserve ahead 📅📍.
I just had the best Saturday brunch experience and had to share it with you. I went to this cute restaurant that had a DJ spinning some great tunes while we were dining. The atmosphere was amazing—perfect for a relaxed weekend vibe. I tried the chicken and waffles, and let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were on point, and I can't stop thinking about it.
The ambiance was lovely, and the food was delectable. However, there were some areas where the service could be improved. Our order was not accurate, and we had to request assistance to rectify it. Additionally, individuals who placed their orders after us received their meals before we did, despite the fact that the restaurant was not particularly busy at the time. It took approximately 30 to 40 minutes for us to receive our food. Furthermore, they had run out of the pretzel bun that was intended for my burger, and I was not informed of this until after I had placed my order. Fortunately, my friends helped to make the rest of the evening enjoyable. Incidentally, the pretzel bun yard bird depicted in this photograph was ordered by my friend, who placed his order after I did. He was fortunate to have received it.

Portion size on the migas plate from the brunch menu was a joke for the price they charge.
I liked the place but I was disappointed there were no lunch specials. Bottom line is- it was too pricey for my taste. Should not have to spend $30 for lunch.
Good food in a very relaxed setting. Hippy/bohemian vibe so no need to overthink the dress code. Would go again if in area.

We were invited here to meet friends. We did not expect much but were very pleased with the food. We would return and recommend. Parking can be a challenge here.

Underwhelming. I ordered goat cheese ‘pizza’ which is not a traditional pizza at all, it’s like a bread roll cut in half with topping. Which would have been okay if it tasted good but it was bland, I had to add bbq sauce just for some flavor. The guy at the register was either having an off day or just really not good with customers in general- he was gruff and very short with all the customers before me and after me. Maybe he’s frustrated because he deals with drunk patrons sometimes(?) but don’t work there if it’s going to affect your attitude that much. The outdoor seating was the only positive thing in my experience, there was plenty of it and it made for a good spot to catch up with a group of friends.
You must go inside to the bar to order your food and drink. It's pretty dark inside and could use some lighting along with fresh greetings. There are plenty of spots to sit and the shading outside along with the fans is nice on a hot day. They do allow pets and have bowls sitting on a shelf outside for your furry friend to enjoy some water if you'd like. The help will clean up as you leave and if you need a to go box you can find them at the side of the bar towards the left along with napkins, fountain drinks, silverware restrooms and water. I would give the food a solid 4 stars but half of the onion rings required taking the peel out of them that was inedible! The chicken sandwiches were cooked nicely as were the sweet potato fries but the best part of the meal was the appetizer. The buffalo cauliflower was absolutely amazing! I would have been happy with just them and a cold beverage to fill up on. Personally, I find the lack of service puzzling and feel they could really use a couple upbeat servers to put things back in order along with some newer menus. The Bars name Onion Creek truly does make you want to cry a river for some service.

SAD & DISAPPOINTED! Was a frequent customer for many years. OC changed hands. Kept going til a couple years ago even though the menu and service changed for the worse. Went back today to give it another try as I noticed the Rueben back on the menu. Hosted a first time guest. 1) Their website menu appears to be from way back when. Have not had the Rueben for sometime 2) DJ - every few songs he lights up a cigarette and smokes up the walkway as his DJ set-up is the middle of the walkway intersection and less than 20ft from the door. Unhealthy, undesired and illegal. Did not see another smoker anywhere. Not in the parking lot or on the decks' outside perimeter. Surely, everyone enjoyed the smell of smoke. Staff I spoke did not care. 3) This is a dinning experience. Not dining and dancing. Why is the DJ playing loud dance music w/ the bass turned up, banging. the std. 4/4 beat?. The music you dance. Not dine as it is difficult to hear others at the table. 4) And, if that was not enough, 15 minutes in line to order + 30+ minutes to be served. Clearly, the place is understaffed. As long as people are willing to deal with this, the place will make $ and no changes. Why would they? Until OC creates a better environment, a staff that cares and menu, changes for the better, it is no longer desirable (IMO). The guest enjoyed the food. Nothing else. They were not amused and could not believe management was not concerned with the smoking. Says it all.

Our group ordered four of the Cuban brisket burgers since I have had them several times and they have always been good, but not today. All four of our burgers were loaded up with these 1 in square cubes of pure fat. I spoke with the cook about it and he said he can't control the meat. I said well somebody had to cut the meat and put it on the burger. He had nothing to say, no apology no nothing. He did offer to refund our money so we did that and left to eat at another restaurant. Reminds me of one of those guys that takes things out on other people when he has a bad day. What a horrible person and a horrible experience.
