The parking lot was busy, but I was able to find a parking spot quickly. Got greeted instantly upon entering. The lady running the front was multitasking and doing it well. She Greeted us, finished packing a to-go order, expedited a dine in order, and then patiently took our first time order. I was expecting the typical mainland "Hawaiian" food, but I was wrong. This place had a wide variety of food options and the taste was very similar to a typical island lunch plate. I was impressed with the service and the taste of the food. This will be our go to restaurant for Hawaii food in Houston from now. We had Garlic Shrimp, Short Ribs, and several different musubi.
One word, amazing . I’ve never had to write a review but I read all the negative reviews & I just don’t agree I thought the food was very delicious, the Mac is literally just a Mac salad what kind of flavor are you expecting ? The meat very flavorful . Chicken well cooked . The staff very friendly . I guess depends on what you get. I think I did great with my choice of selection . Very clean I will say
Second time here, I got the bbq plate with beef, short ribs, and chicken. Service was fast, but I feel like the portion sizes are smaller than before. The food was fresh and had good flavor. With a drink this was almost $20, I feel it’s a little overpriced for the amount of food you get.
This food put me back on the island! We had kalua pork and bbq chicken (huli huli) and I got a lilikoi juice. All were outstanding! The staff was nice, its counter service but she brought the food to our table anyway. Overall great lunch.

Had the bbq chicken bowl with rice (add egg and gravy) super good!
i stopped by this area for lunch and decided to give this place a try. i really got intrigued by their chicken katsu, the outside photo made me so hungry! i wasnt expecting much and got kinda worried when i went on to check the reviews. however once my food came out, i was happy to see how good the food was! there are several places in houston that serve chicken/beef katsu and most places are not that good. one thing i wished they had were having a bit more chicken between and the fried part being less. but nonetheless it was still yummy. the macaroni was eh, i might ask for extra rice next time. the size i got was mini chicken katsu lunch special which comes with a drink! what a deal! the sauce was so good and paired well with the katsu and cabbage on the bottom. Smaller store but still spacious layout, i dined in but i did see lots of people ordering online and taking it out. all and all i want to come back here and try other plates, everything was clean and the customer service is good!
Food is always good and staff is always friendly. If I had to criticize one thing it seems petty but its the fountain machine. Who doesn't love a cold fountain drink with their food. The machine has been broken for as long as I can remember. It's probably the only reason a lot of customers dont dine in. Hopefully it will get fixed.
Portions were generous making the prices a great deal. The chicken was really good. Cheeseburger was very filling and cooked well. I knocked a star off the rating because they waited until after I ordered and paid for a combo meal to tell me they were out of fries. So we got microwaved cauliflower and carrots instead of fries... kid was not happy and I don't blame her.
First time visiting this location/restaurant. Very clean, great staff. Received good suggestions for choices to eat. Tried the Kalua pork and cabbage....also the BBQ mix which consists of combination of beef, chicken, and short ribs. Both dishes came with rice and macaroni salad. Will definitely visit again.

Normally this place is great, but lately the quality has gone down significantly. I’m disappointed. The short ribs were burnt. Hopefully the quality improves.
First visit and this place is just okay. We were pretty excited to try a few things after finding it via Google. The reviews convinced us to give it a try. The real star is the mixed bbq plate. The meat is well marinated and the chicken is very tender. I would definitely get it again. The Loco Moco is so bland! The meat, eggs, and rice are not seasoned at all. The only seasoning is the gravy and they are very stingy with it. There was so much rice without gravy, unfortunately. The katsu musubi was okay. The cheese burger and fries are a cheese burger and fries. The guy at the counter forgot our drink and we had to come back for it. The plus side is that the portion size is plentiful, so you do get your money's worth. I was very impressed with the amount of fries included. The mac salad tasted weird, but perhaps that is a difference of taste buds. It was vinegary and sour, like it had gone off. However, I think that it was made that way, I hope.
Great portions. First time here order the seafood platter and the shrimp and fish filet was very good! It comes with rice and Mac and cheese... which was cold as just taken out of the fridge, also flavorless. I tried it and just didn’t eat it, not sure if they offer other sides, but I wouldn’t get that. The reason why my experience wasn’t ruined by the awful pasta dish was the fact that the rest was very well seasoned and big portions. Not particularly good service, but you get your bucks back.
Location was pretty spotless and clean. The staff was helpful and made a few suggestions as first timers to eat there. I planned to grab a bbq plate but was suggested the chiken katsu as the favorite option. My wife and I ordered the chiken katsu and ordered the bbq chicken for our daughter so it wasnt too hard for her to eat. When the dishes came out the looked pretty good. My wife tasted the bbq chicken, then the katsu....and was bummed that she should have ordered the bbq chicken instead. The katsu chicken was pretty crunchy, flat, and a bit dry. The rice was good. The mac salad was the best thing in the dish. There was some type of salad under the chicken but it was really an afterthought as my plate was full of core pieces meaning to tough to eat. The dish overall felt like it was missing something and that was on both my wife and I's mind. Towards the end of our meal one of the team members came over and showed us a picture of the dish with gravy that typically goes with the dish which we opted out of right when we ordered not realizing that it was a key component to the dish as it was our first time there and no pictures were available right then. The food was overall average which could have been due to the lack of that gravy to tie it all together. I will try this location again and order some of their bbq selections. The staff was friendly, location was clean, price was reasonable so I'll give it a second try.
I was excited to eat L&L because I hadn't had it in a long time. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the food. I ordered a half and half plate with chicken katsu and kalua pork. Also ordered 2 spam musubi on the side. The kalua pork was way overcooked - it was dry and stringy. Also, the flavor was off. The chicken katsu was over crunchy and definitely overcooked. It looked like it had sat under a hot light for hours. The mac salad, rice and musubi were fine.
Pretty average experience for an average restaurant and an average level of value. The katsu and rice was great. Definitely one of their best dishes from what I can tell. My coworkers got a variety of other things. They seem pretty happy. I think as far as the Musubi goes, just know the slice of spam is pretty dang thin. Like.. I don’t know how traditional Musubi is supposed to be, but the amount of rice compared to the slice of spam was at least 90%/10%. Overall, a decent experience. Can’t help but feel like there’s more that could be done.

We came in on a Sunday afternoon, took forever to be able to order, and had to wait more than half an hour for an order of burger combo and bbq combo. In fact, I’m still waiting for my order and in writing this review because I’m bored. Drink machine is broken as well. Overall I’m hungry… and feel they are taking way too long for simple food order.
My friend is from the native lands and was very excited to share this comfort food with me. We drove over an hr to get there. There was a line so we assumed it was going to be good. They were out of EVERYTHING. The only options were fish or shrimp and very basic pork or beef. I am very unhappy with the experience. The person at the counter did not have anything to say about why they were out of the items not could they offer anything off the menu and we fumbled through five or six meal options and they were out of them all. Do not waste your time. The vegetables were obviously previously frozen...steamed and tasted like water. The beef was dry and very fatty. I would say get the pork and cabbage but I would not make a trip for it. Very dissatisfied.
update: I’m not sure what happened recently but the flavor, quality and quantity has gone down dramatically. Our fav katsu curry plate is unrecognizable; the quantity was reduced noticeably, the curry was replaced with a white liquid of sadness, the katsu was not as crispy and had carrot bits?! Our second fav bbq beef plate suffered as well; the beef was dry, tough and much less flavorful. The bbq rib (kalbi) plate was still tender and flavorful so maybe there’s hope. My childhood has been insulted. Tasty local Hawaiian comfort food. Giant portions and great value. Fast friendly service in a clean venue with a fair amount of seating. For those from Hawaii, it’s an accurate taste of home. For everyone else, it’s a Hawaiian vacation for your tastebuds and tummy. The small parking lot can be a little tricky.

Last night I ordered the bbq & katsu chicken plate. I waited until today, drove 25 minutes to another Hawaiian BBQ spot and tried theirs, before I came back to leave this review. ¡BASURA! Was it edible? Barely. Honestly, the only thing that saved it was their in-house volcano sauce. The chicken wasn’t even the correct color; the macaroni was a travesty, the prices are atrocious, and they don’t even put it on a bed of cabbage. I’m not going to call myself a connoisseur, but I got hooked on Hawaiian BBQ in Oakland and became obsessed in Hilo. This ain’t it! I really had to go try another place to make sure I wasn’t crazy 😂 I considered going back to give L&L a second try, but I’m in the middle of tearing up this plate from another spot and nah… I won’t be retuning to L&L. Would I eat it if I was on the brink of starvation? Yes. Would I PAY money for it? NO!

Do not come here, it has a 3.7 at the time of my review and thats way too high, I got the pork bbq plate and Portuguese musubi. All the meat was super dry like it was yesterdays food reheated for the next day, the portions are extremely small for how much they charge. This is worst L&L I have been to. I should have known better when I saw a white woman behind the counter.
Came to the store website says they open at 10:30 door was locked l! Sign was on employees just looking at me crazy as I stood at the door! Customer service horrible! Find better people that actually want to work.
Good service. Delicious food! I can hang out their all day with their music and coconut water.☺ Edit: the review above was from a year ago. Current review: they gave me two pieces of meat, no forks or sauce, no broccoli. I know its a recession but the picture speaks for itself. This is the third time this happens within this year's. My brothers didn't even want to order from there but agreed with me cause its my birthday. Absolutely disappointed 😞
No wonder this place have a many bad reviews I never see a restaurant so miserable they they charge you for the exercise when I supposed to be hot to come with a plate or with the order and that's not all the problem here is if you can send the picture I pay for the extra sauce but the little container they come in 80% empty so what is the purpose basically I take four of those and I can barely fill it up one I eat this kind of food all around the United States as a truck driver and I tell you people don't come on don't order them to this place unless you want to eat something you have to swallow it with a lot of water or soda because it's really dry and if you ask for the sauce or now you know what you're going to get
Man this place went really downhill. Meat was super dry and burnt like it was sitting out for a while before being served. Mac salad is flavorless and tastes like watery mayonnaise. I do not like wasting food but we could not finish the meat. I will never go back here.
This place is so unreliable. Show up at 7:50pm they close at 8:30pm. Say they are no longer serving customers…. Then why say you’re open if you’re not? After driving across town we will not be back. This is not the first time we have been turned away at this location . Las time in the middle of the day they were “too busy” to take anymore orders. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
I LOVE THE FOOD HERE. I WANTED TO GET SOME THE OTHER NIGHT I GOT THERE AT 8PM AND THE DOORS WERE LOCKED AND THE STAFF WERE CLEANING UP. THEY ADVERTISE THEY CLOSE AT 8:30 NOT A GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICE CLOSING EARLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON
I visited this store 3 days in a row. On the first day I was greeted well by a gentleman who seemed like the owner, he was sitting on his laptop busy but very welcoming and good energy. My food was perfect/brilliant! I got their two most expensive items all three times. The second day I had looked at their website for the menu and noticed they offer 10% off if you create an account and after attaining all my data there was a notification saying their online order system is not currently functional, however, I the consumer had already fulfilled my end of the advertised agreement, and my data is of significant value. Anyhow I went in store made my purchase and left, again great customer service and delicious, healthy sized portions just like the day before making the significant price-tag worthy. On day three the person I was with asked if they have any discounts as we were checking out and it jogged my memory that the website wasn’t functional so I wasn’t able to get my 10% discount. I didn’t press the matter but mentioned it as it sprung to mind and I guess as I was aware it was even possible the lady gave it to me as it is factual, otherwise how would I have known. When I picked the order up off of the counter I instantly knew that the portion was less than usual. I noticed when we placed the order the lady was about to mention that we had received a discount but stopped herself and went into the kitchen and then told the chef discreetly and as a result not only were the portions less than usual but the bbq pork was left out of the order. Whether it was intentional or not it happened. When I called to notify them no one answered the call. One person/one encounter can change so much, my impression of the store and the staff was impeccable. We never even consider places with less than 4 stars on Google, on route to the store I made every possible excuse/rational for all the bad reviews, which I was surprised to discover. This one lady chose to just make a random snap judgement with an attitude, and went into the kitchen to spread her negative (figuratively speaking) attitude to other members of the establishment and instructing/encouraging them to deliver poor/reduced product. This has lost you a high valued loyal customer, who was considering your catering services for multiple large-scale corporate functions. The community support your business, after many encounters it can be easy to forget. In reflection, ask yourself if in 3 days I spent $100, would you prefer the value of a life long customer or the value you feel you reclaimed from making my order smaller and leaving an item out, simply because I availed a discount offer you created to stimulate more custom?
I got the BBQ plate with two sides of Mac. The quantity of food for the price is abysmal. You could go to Panda Express and get 2.5x amount of food for the same price. I can’t imagine this place will stay open much longer. And reading the reviews, they used to give way more food. Inflation is a valid excuse but this is much past that.
I tried placing an order over the phone, but they said I had to pay through the phone, which was fine. So I drove to the location to place my order in person. When I got there, my total was $26.03, and I tried to pay with two $20 bills and three cents. But they refused to take one of my $20 bills and told me I needed to get change somewhere else. That made the whole experience really inconvenient, especially after already driving there just to pay. I decided not to order — it just wasn’t worth leaving my money there.
This location is not abiding by food safety regulations. Today I placed my usual order via delivery and received rotten, expired sauce that smelled absolutely toxic. You can compare the photo, these two sauces are supposed to be the same, yet the sauce on the left smells like it was dipped out of old garbage sludge. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but I will absolutely never return. The steep decline in quality is a serious food safety concern at this point.
I ordered the BBQ chicken plate and was really disappointed. This location feels like a knock-off version of L&L. The chicken was chopped into small dry pieces instead of the usual whole chicken fillet that L&L is known for. The taste was off and definitely did not follow the authentic recipe I expected. If you are looking for real L&L quality, this store is not it. Will not be coming back.
This place is disgusting. I ordered a mini chicken katsu and mini bbq chicken and came home to trash both! I wish I had checked them while I was inside. How can you serve chicken this black and burnt and expect customers to eat? The katsu chicken was disgustingly salty and tough to chew. This is absolute trash and I would like my money back for both. I paid for the most expensive rice and macaroni pretty much.
I’ve had L&L bbq many times before but this is the worst location and foods. This is a disgusting original bbq mix plate and it’s not cheap. Everything is burnt and dry, plus this is not mixed vegetables. Very disappointed!
I was really looking forward to eating my $20 meal! What a disappointment. And I hate leaving bad reviews but I don't want someone to be disappointed as me. The fish and the shrimp was very dry. And the rib was a small little thin piece. The picture is the the way it was when I opened it to eat at home. I've had L&L in Hawaii and was always so pleased with food and service. Not here in this location. 😪
I’m sad that I had to resort to a one star review, but this place was terrible. I even sent them an email prior to this review, but no response. The menu didn’t reflect what the cashier was telling me because apparently there had been a menu change in their system but not on the posted menu in the restaurant. I had the mini pork lunch special and it went straight into the trash. The pork was so salty I could hardly stand a few bites. The Mac salad was flavorless and kind of grey and watery like it had been sitting forever. I ordered spam and rice for my daughter and paid $13 + when it stated a bowl was less than $9. The spam tasted like it was fried on a month old dirty grill. It’s hard to mess up fried spam considering it’s already cooked, but they some how managed it. The photos you see is exactly how my food looked in the restaurant, it wasn’t to go. The food is terrible and they’re ripping people off. I even tried to see if the cashier would come out post meal so I could say something and she hid in the kitchen. Do NOT recommend!
I’ve been to good L&L’s all over from California to Las Vegas Nevada, and this has got to be the worst one. Place was empty including the employees no one at the counter, should have took that as a sign but eventually someone came and we ordered. The Chicken katsu tasted old and rubbery, with strips as tough as jerky. You can tell it was previously cooked and they reflashed it in the fryer. Mac salad was ok, but the rice was old and can tell it’s been in the rice cooker too long(starting to smell sour). The bbq chicken was like a practical joke, super tough, old, and can tell it was reheated. I don’t know why it was so dark, looked like it’s been sitting in the marinade for too long, so maybe it pickled the meat. Drink machine was broken, only have Pepsis to drink. Wasted 35$, stopped trying to eat it 1/4 way thru hope we don’t get sick. This is not island food, our food is “broke da mouth”, this is broke my wallet. I guess it’s for people that that are unfamiliar with Hawaiian food.

I have eaten at this establishment multiple times and never had any complaints but my most recent experience was completely awful. My short ribs were so burnt you could actually taste the char from the grill. My katsu chicken was dry and rubbery and then my katsu sauce was chunky! Not to mention that they had no macaroni salad at 1 in the afternoon! How does that even happen? That’s a main staple in every plate purchased.
As a suggestion, this place needs new staff. I placed my order after a family of 3. After I ordered about 4 or 5 new orders came in. We were all waiting to get our food, when I noticed people who ordered after me got their food faster. 20 minutes go by still nothing half an hour goes by and I finally asked how much longer on my To-Go order. The girl taking orders went to check on my food and said it still wasn't complete. I asked why my food wasnt ready, yet people who ordered after me got their food. She said they had simple orders so we send those out 1st, I mentioned well thats not fair, cause they just ordered & got their food while I had to wait over 30 minutes. I decided to take what ever was done, she said she had to get the manager, who was the one cooking. He came out from the kitchen and all he said was sorry, asked the girl what am I removing? She said just the last 2 items . He ended doing a complete refund, only for the girl to tell me I'll just charge you for what's in the bag. After 40 minutes she was going to charge me for their error not going by order, I said you know what never mind. I just left with no food wasted my time there.
Horrible horrible horrible. I’ve been to many L&L’s before and this place has made me swear them off at least in Houston. Rude staff. They served us bbq pork chops that were raw. There was no apology or anything. When we asked for a refund they wouldn’t give it to us. When we asked to change the meal to an another plate for a cheaper price they wouldn’t do that either. They made it unpleasant and at one point we felt unsafe to be there. If they couldn’t serve up proper food the first time, why wait for them to serve us again? Exactly. We left and will not be back.
Definitely a huge miss today, I normally go to the Katy location but it's been shut down. So, we went to the Houston location today... highly disappointed. The loco moco plate was not it, over cooked patties, over cooked eggs... rice portions thrown into the plate. I need ya'll to do better, please. I'm from Hawaii and I don't expect everything to taste like home but this needs to be addressed. Thank you.
I felt like trying something new today, and I regret it. This place charges $13 for a bowl of chicken and rice with veggies. It was probably 1/3 the serving size of Chipotle. Awful. I ate half of it and went next door to Chipotle to have a satisfying meal.
The worst Hawaiian BBQ I've ever had in my life. I've eaten Hawaiian BBQ in 4 states and I didn't even know it could be this bad. The taste was: off. The Katsu was hard and dry. The Mac salad lacked flavor also. The portions were scraps. I paid more here for my usual order and received less food. Avoid this one and the L&L in Katy (also equally disgusting), try Maikai or Aloha. This is the closet one to me and yet I'd rather drive an extra 15 miles in order to get my Hawaiian BBQ Mac salad fix. The service is great. The food is the problem.
