Our first time and will definitely be back! Amazing food, service and atmosphere! This place is a hidden gem in Johnson City!
We have been told about this place for awhile and it did not disappoint. Marcus our amazing waiter was on point with suggestions, courtesy and great customer service. We had the porkchop and it was amazingly and we cant wait to try other options. Run dont walk to this hidden gem. Drinks 10+ food 10+ service 10+
What a treat, the food was amazing from beginning to end. Every bite was delicious and cooked to perfection. The mussels (omg the warm bread too), the wedge salad, the salmon and OMG the chocolate creme brûlée was just fabulous. The service was perfect as well. Thank you for an unforgettable time!
Everything was fantastic, down to the details. For example, I hoarded the cocktail sauce off the shrimp cocktail platter after apps were cleared because it was too good to let go. The shrimp were perfectly poached, by the way. The brussel sprouts had a beautiful Maillard throughout every layer. Both salads were fantastic and thoughtfully designed, down to the Spanish anchovies on the Caesar and the chunky bleu on the wedge. Speaking of bleu cheese, the cocktail menu was fantastic, contained my favorite premium spirits, and every drink we tried was a hit. I don't usually like fried food, but the schnitzel was the best I've had. It had a nice crunchy exterior without being too heavy. The meat was juicy, and the gravy was so good I asked for an extra side of it. And then we got an extra order of schnitzel for the table. The green beans were also awesome, with a nice char flavor contrasting the dill beurre blanc! I will be recreating that at home since we got to chat with the chef after dinner! From someone who doesn't usually opt for sweets, do not skip dessert! We had the pecan pie and chocolate creme brulee. The whipped cream on the pecan pie was light and tasted of real vanilla bean. The caramel was rich and buttery. The chocolate ganache in the brulee was a wonderfully complex dark chocolate, and both deserts were rich in flavor without being too sweet. Definitely would go back next time we're in JC.
The food was great! The chef let us tested a dish and it was delicious. The staff were nice and attentive. I’m pregnant so I requested a mocktail off the menu and the barista understood his assignment. I definitely come back if I’m in town again. The only thing is the menu is limited, but the quality is good.
This restaurant is as gorgeous as the food is delicious. We started with the wedge and the sausage and pimento. Both were out of this world with flavor and looked great. The duck was fantastic and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Both Katelyn and Crystal made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond to make sure our every need was catered to. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
This place is a hidden gem. I am a nightmare when it comes to steak. I like mine well done. I know. I usually accept that it will taste rubbery. But not here. I had my filet done to MY perfection and it was juicy delicious and perfect!!! We did see Bryan literally working the hostes stand. My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary and I said to him “this chef is working every aspect of service from our reservation to our food I bet it’s going to be fabulous”. Sure enough when I tasted our food I knew I was right. Bryan does his food with love and passion and it shows. I wish I took pictures of our food but it was so delish I ate everything in my plate ! We are waiting for our desserts but I am already planning on coming back and bringing our family here . 🙏🫶💯
My spouse and I chose Bryans on 290 to celebrate our anniversary, and we couldn't have picked a better place. The entire experience—from the food to the service—was truly amazing. The food was perfection! Every dish was clearly prepared with care. Even when one of our items arrived slightly cold (a small hiccup), the staff and management immediately swooped in and did everything they could to make it right. They handled it with such professionalism and grace that it actually reinforced how dedicated they are to their guests. The service was impeccable throughout the evening. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making us feel genuinely celebrated. This is a fantastic establishment, and it was a great place to celebrate our anniversary. We highly recommend Bryans on 290 and can't wait to return!
The atmosphere was delightful, the food was incredible, and the service was impeccable (thanks to Kaitlyn and Lindsey). The ceasar salad was creamy and had a traditional ceasar salad taste. The salmon was absolutely delicious and was cooked perfectly. The pear sour was perfect and the mezcal paired wonderfully with the pear juice. And lastly the chocolate orange crème brûlée was so insanely incredible, the flavor profile that consisted in the dessert was so amazing.
Food was delicious, but the highlight of our entire experience was the service and fantastic conversation with our server/bartender Kaitlyn. From the moment we were sat, we felt so welcome and taken care of. Kaitlyn was and always is incredibly attentive and friendly. I love how she takes the time to chat with us, offering a personalized experience that makes/made our night feel really special. For dinner, we started with the red fish chowder and ended with the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and macaroni for the sides. Both dishes were cooked perfectly, and the flavors were fantastic. While the restaurant itself is beautiful and the food is great, it was the exceptional service that will have us coming back again and again. If you're looking for a top-notch dining experience with friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun service, consider asking for Kaitlyn. You won't be disappointed!!
This is was such a perfect dinner spot! The food was mind blowing, the atmosphere is chic, and the staff were all so incredibly helpful! My favorite appetizer was the blue crab dip, their pork chop is out of this world and one of their most popular items for a good reason! I would suggest calling ahead to make a reservation to ensure you have a table when you arrive, but 10/10! We will absolutely be back to this one!
We have tried to dine here multiple times but due to various reasons, it just never worked out. BUT today was the day!!! The service was outstanding. Helpful without being overly pushy. I went for the chicken, other half went with the pork chop and we shared the brussel sprouts. Everything was so delicious! Just to give you a clue: I don’t typically like pork but I tried a bite and I would definitely order the pork here! I can’t wait to come back and try some other entrees (and dessert)!!!
My sister and I were passing through Johnson City when we landed on this gem. From the atmosphere, to the food, we truly enjoyed our time here. We also had a chance to talk with Chef Bryan and different people on staff. Everyone was super nice! My sister had the scallops, which were amazing, and I had the pork chop. We also shared some of the crispy Brussel sprouts which were amazing. I recommend this place as we hope to go back one day. It was truly a great evening.
Bryan's on 290 should be a "must eat" when you are in Johnson City (or near it). We have been twice, and the service has been spot-on both times. The food is excellent, and their Lemon Tart is worth the calories. This is one of the very few restaurants in the Highland Lakes area that will start you off with an amuse bouche. In this case it was an unbelievably tasty salmon pate. We started our meal with East Coast Oysters and Steamed Mussels. Both were fresh and delicious. Four our entrees I had Jumbo Grilled Shrimp on Grits, they were amazing. My husband had their Smoked Prime Pork Chop, also excellent. Both times we have eaten here our meals were superb and, as a bonus, their patio is dog friendly!
Stopped by late one night after looking at Christmas lights. We were just looking for something simple but this was the only place open and I'm glad it was. This was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The atmosphere is cozy and the food absolutely amazing. The prices were higher than we expected but it was reflected in the quality of the food. Every bite we took was incredible with every dish seasoned and cooked just right. The staff were friendly offering recommendations for food and wine, and checking in regularly. It was a good experience I'll never forget, and we agreed we still go back until we try every dish on that menu. If You're in the area or don't mind a drive from Austin to Johnson City, definitely stop in.
Bryans On 290 offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly service and tasty food. Portions are generous, and the menu has a good variety. While wait times can be a bit long during busy hours, the overall experience is enjoyable and worth the visit.
Food is ok, not great. Most appetizer options are seafood so we didn't order one. We ordered a ribeye and tenderloin. The ribeye was very chewy, seemed like a low quality. Tenderloin was tender but not much taste. Dessert was really good - chocolatr creme brulee. Wouldn't have been a bad experience if it wasnt for the staff and the bar area. I made reservations but we were sat in the corner of the bar. The walls and window coverings are so cheap looking. And the bartender was so obnoxious. She was so loud and complained and gossiped the whole time, ruining our intimate date night.
I wanted to like this place. First, we were seated opposite the kitchen, so it was noisy. My friend and I had the lamb osso bucco. We agreed neither of us would order again, it was too fatty. Our other friend had the pork chop which was a good choice. We had to ask our waiter to bring the bottle of wine we ordered, which he brought after our food was delivered. The wine was overpriced ($100 for a $40 bottle of wine). I had to ask the waiter to bring the check, and then ask him to pick up my card for payment. Overall, I was disappointed.
We discovered this place as a recommendation from friends. It's a nice place with a great atmosphere. It was easy to get a reservation on a Friday evening, although I'm not sure we needed one and they have parking adjacent to the restaurant. So, to start with, we were taken to a table in the very back of the restaurant. It seemed odd since in the bar area, which was bright with sunlight, some nice music playing and other people but not full. Then there was what maybe is the main dining area with some other people. But we were taken to a dark area of the restaurant where there were no people and it was almost like they wanted to keep us out of view of other people? It was just me and my daughter and we were dressed nicely so this seemed quite rude and we had to ask to be seated somewhere not so secluded. I don't understand why the need to put us as far away from every other patron. The menu isn't large but everything on it sounded so appetizing... we actually tried several of the starters. We had the Steamed Mussels, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Iceberg w/bacon and Gorgonzola and the Scallop & Blue Crab Dip. Okay the short answer is the Brussels Sprouts win hands down; but next time I would order then without the smoked pork belly. The iceberg with gorgonzola I would pass on. Nothing beats a traditional wedge salad with real bleu cheese. The "house made bacon" was too big of chunks and should should have been cooked more thoroughly but simply I just wouldn't recommend. The steamed mussels we are mixed on; they were cooked well and the sauce was good. But the mussels were the smallest mussels I have ever had. The Scallop & Blue Crab dip was good and while the toasted bread they served it with was good, it would have been so much better with the grilled bread that comes with the mussels. Please be aware, these appetizers are on the smaller side. Great for two people... but more than two people, you will want to order double or additional appetizers. For our main courses, we ordered the Seared Salmon which is served atop a spinach salad and has a soy lime dressing. We also had the 14oz ribeye with garlic buttermilk mashed potatoes. The salmon looked amazing... but just looked. The salmon itself was cooked to perfection... but the soy lime dressing is incredibly salty and just took away from the flavor of the salmon. As for it being a soy lime... I can't say I could taste much lime. But again, very salty. For the ribeye, it was okay. For the price, I was expecting a much more flavorful piece of meat. It was cooked as ordered and it certainly was tasty, but I wouldn't go on to say it was a great piece of meat or that I would order it again. For the mashed potatoes... very disappointing. Never tasted any garlic and while I'm sure they are not, they almost tasted like something from a box. It's staggering to me because mashed potatoes are so easy to make. These are not fluffy mashed potatoes but almost runny which is why I compare them to mashed potatoes from a box (just see the photo). For an additional side, we had the "Spicy Green Beans". Green beans they were... spicy they were not. To give it a full try, we even had dessert; We had the chocolate crème brûlée and strawberry shortcake. The 'chocolate crème brûlée was simply just chocolate pudding. I make an amazing crème brûlée and again, this was just chocolate pudding. The 'cake' in the strawberry shortcake was quite hard and not moist. Again, quite a surprise. Making a simple yellow cake is so easy. Last, the wine menu was also disappointing. There was one selection for a white wine by the glass and just a few reds. They have an assortment of wines but nothing on the list that stood out. It was a nice experience, but not a place I would go out of my way to try. We will probably go back at some point just to try again, but for now we will check out some other establishments.
