Food was great, cocktails were better, and the interior is 1920s inspired. The live music was wonderful.
Came here on a first date, and it was amazing! The piano player was amazing! Got to hear all sorts of great music while impressing my date.
Classy drinks. Friendly staff. Great suggestions. Talented piano player. All around great place to visit
First class music and service. Loved it!
Great speakeasy like atmosphere. Fun drinks and live music was great.
Great live music and unique cocktails!
Piano player was very entertaining and the cocktails were delicious!
Love this place man. Went there on Valentine Day and it was nothing but vibes.
Great little lounge for an evening getaway with some incredibly talented musicians performing here. The craft cocktails were excellent, grab something here during restaurant week while you can!
My wife and I stayed at the Marriott Downtown Kansas City and decided to try the VOO Lounge for a nightcap & dessert. It's a little tough to find if you walk through the hotel itself, so I suggest you walk outside & use the street entrance. CARLOS the bartender was a true professional. It was a little slow when we first arrived, so we had a chance to talk with him for a while. He has a great personality, and he is very proud of his craft cocktails. We asked him to make us something that is his favorite to make, and he prepared the OVER THE GARDEN WALL. It was nothing short of amazing. (See pic) Carlos recommended the BUTTER-PECAN ICE CREAM SANDWICH dessert, and it was phenomenal. Can't wait for the next time we stay at the Marriott Downtown KC and have a chance to hang out with Carlos again!!! Save us a couple seats at the bar Carlos!!
Atmosphere was amazing, drink prices were affordable. Good place for a date night/ girls night. I love the dark vibe with amazing live music!! How can you not have a good time. Service was amazing they definitely go above and beyond for their customers. It’s my second time coming here and won’t be my last!
I will recommend the crab wonton nachos! They were good so we ordered 2! The charcuterie board was good for a snack. I wanted some crackers though 🤷🏾♀️…. Live music, great service and it was a vibe for me and my girls
I attended with a group of girlfriends while staying at the Marriott for a Conference. I ordered the “Sweet Chai of Mine” cocktail, which was delicious. Our server was excellent, personable, and ready for any and all recommendations based on each of our drink preferences. The singer/guitarist performing (Darren Dowler) was incredibly skilled, and kept the place lively and energetic all night. If ever I’m in the area again, I would come back. ✨5/5 service!!
Simply incredible. Drinks are inventive & well-balanced and delicious. Food is just as creative and tasty. Bring friends so you can try more of the drinks! Also, the bartenders are nice, helpful & fun, and the love piano music made for the best ambience✨
Recently opened in downtown Kansas City, Voo Lounge is a piano and cocktail bar attached to the Marriott hotel, with its own entrance on Baltimore Ave. Upon entering through the revolving door, you'll be greeted by a display of members' lockers on the right, while the bar is strategically located along the left wall. Tables are set up around the pianos where live music takes place, creating a perfect ambiance. We decided to sit at the bar and were impressed by the beautiful back bar with a great selection of spirits. T.J. was behind the bar and made me a perfectly balanced negroni that I had been craving. The crowd was lively and engaged in great conversations, while the resident pianist, Will Okeys, set the perfect tone for the lounge. The live music served as a perfect backdrop for those engaged in conversations, and the center of the show for those enjoying a delicious libation. Alison Korn, the mastermind behind Voo Lounge, has done a wonderful job creating a sophisticated and enjoyable atmosphere. We can't wait to go back!
Great drinks! Awesome jazz music
The Voo Lounge in Kansas City is a hidden gem for anyone who loves a sophisticated cocktail bar experience. The live piano music creates an incredible ambiance, perfectly complementing the cozy, upscale vibe of the space. The cocktails are crafted with precision and taste fantastic, but it’s the service that truly sets this place apart—friendly, attentive, and professional. Whether you’re out for a date night or just want to unwind with some great music and drinks, The Voo Lounge delivers an excellent experience. Highly recommend!
Amazing experience. Will is a joy to listen to. He is funny and charming! The food was really good as were the drinks. I will be coming back again for it all — but mostly for Will!
Had a free Wednesday evening and wanted to chill and listen to some live music. To my surprise stumbled upon Voo Lounge. What a treat to see the talented Talya Groves 🎤🎶 and Brian Ward on the keys🎹. The acoustics and vibe were outstanding! And the cocktails were exquisite....🥃🫡 Can't wait to return.
A beautiful bar with an incredible history. This space is a design masterpiece frequented at one time by President Truman, Frank Sinatra, and Truman Capote (that’s just for starters re: celebrities). Voo has some legitimately fantastic cocktails, great service and food, some top KC jazz acts, and a very cool staff. 5/5 recommend.
These lower views make no sense to me at all. Everything here is so well thought out. The drinks are fabulous, the service is amazing and the pianist is fantastic. The interior is to die for. This is such a wonderful expierence here in Kansas City and I know the people who own this place put their heart and soul into it. This place is awesome! As a bartender myself I really appreciate all the details and thought put into all of this. I will definitely be coming back!
1st time here. Cool little lounge with live music, interesting cocktails. We had an outstanding server, told us about his favorite performers there and which nights to visit the Voo Lounge.
A swanky craft-cocktail lounge, with a few small plates (apps & dessert), and live music. It's a cute vibe to start or end an evening downtown.
Amazing jazz jam Wednesdays 7 to 11
Great place. Decor is beautiful, staff was super friendly and social. All the cocktails were amazing!! Food was okay, probably wouldn’t order again. The pianist was just the right amount of livelihood! Great place for any occasion.
My wife and I swung by here for a couple cocktails before a show at the Midland. We absolutely loved it! Great cocktails, wonderful ambiance, and the piano player did a GREAT job keeping everyone entertained. I hope to be back.
Wonderful experience! The singer and accompanists were phenomenal. Perfect cocktails!
We had an awesome evening of wonderfully crafted drinks and spirited music at Voo Lounge. The pianist was incredible, the drinks were perfect and the conversation with the bartenders was entertainment at its best! Thanks for a very fun night, TJ. You make a mean drink for a Nickelback fan 😉
This place is stunning!! Met family and friends for drinks and to hear some live music. Service was awesome he was very helpful and suggestions were on point!!! Will definitely be back! Also if you’re looking for a cool date spot this is absolutely a good choice!!
I had a great time at Voo Lounge. The atmosphere is fantastic, especially if you love live jazz. I went on a Wednesday night for open mic, and it felt like a true jam session. Musicians from the audience would rotate in and out, and the range of talent was amazing. There were teenagers playing saxophones and trombones, and one of the drummers was in his 80s. It was so fun to see people of all ages coming together to make music. The energy was lively, spontaneous, and made for a really memorable evening.
This is a fun and sexy piano, cocktail bar. Love the decor and I especially love that they don't overfill with people! You definitely need to make a reservation or they will turn you away at the door. The drinks were good though it was odd that they put egg white on an amaretto sour so we had that one remade. The server was friendly and personable (shout out to Carlos!). The musician was fun and good but the visiting sports tourists definitely got old so beware of what's going on in the city if that's not the crowd you're into.
Live Jazz. Good atmosphere, location, and history... under-performing bar team, ridiculousl $12 popcorn, and need to keep their website updated.
Such a cool joint to enjoy cocktails and jazzy lounge music! I walked in for a cocktail and was instantly intrigued by the lady laying on the piano singing… he voice was great, the music was wonderful and the venue was spot-on! They have traditional cocktails, but it’s not a craft cocktail joint. Wine list is also typical for a Marriott bar as well, but the venue is nothing like other typical Marriotts! Service was decent… Cocktail was nice… The venue was what I enjoyed most.
We went for cocktail class and I can't wait to go back just to chill. Dri ks were delicious and loved the vibe.
Really enjoyed the drinks and ambiance of Voo Lounge. My husband and I were visiting Kansas for the night, and our hotel recommended this bar. We are so glad that we went. The staff is so nice and knowledgeable on cocktails. We also really enjoyed the entertainment for the night. It was a perfect ending to our evening
Could be amazing! Walking in, I was struck by the beautiful decor and high-class urban gem vibe. Alas, the dank, mildew smell was so overpowering we couldn't stay for more than 1 drink (an unpleasantly astringent Old Fashioned). If they get that smell figured out and maybe work out the cocktail menu, VOO could be a go-to spot for me.
Two of us went for KC restaurant week on a Friday night to try the place out. The first thing we noticed is that all of the seats at the bar are wobbly and seem to have broken hydraulics, for a place that charges $15-$20 a cocktail I would expect better. We also did the Mac n cheese flight, since they were out of the pork belly (which given restaurant week, understandable), we both received room temperature Mac n cheese after waiting about 30 minutes for it, and one of the gentlemen running food asked if it was cold, we told him yes, and he did nothing at all. Since we got the restaurant week special, I didn’t feel a need to complain, but if I was paying regular prices that would have not been acceptable. Also, the white Mac and cheese tastes like deli macaroni and cheese salad, which is not my personal preference. The drinks we had were the B&B which was like an old fashioned but mild, and the Star of the Sea, which was very interesting. We would have considered more drinks but for the uncomfortable seats and kind of lack luster food service, we decided one drink was enough. There are better places to go just down the block like PS or Drum Room for a cocktail lounge vibe.
It may have been the rudest bartender I have ever had. I juat asked him about what drink woth tequila he recommended. And got a little rude and told me to go sit down and he would send a waiter over. I have never been turned down at a slow bar before. If the guy singing would not have been so good we would have just left. After he finished his last song we did. The old fashion was so bad we did not even finish it.
Really neat concept, but still has some kinks to work out. We sat at the bar, and the chairs were very unsteady. They wobbled around quite a bit. The lamps along the bar flickered subtly so we had a hard time focusing on the menu. Not a deal breaker or a star-loser, just another little thing that needs help. Two of us had menus that were out of order. I thought the drink menu was underwhelming until I saw my friend's menu had significantly more options! The biggest negative for me was the music. I looked forward to it, but the pianist was just belting showtunes and 80s covers the whole time? Was not the vibe or the volume I was expecting. Based on the price, the décor, and the vibe, I expected something a little more classy. He's obviously a very talented guy, but his style just didn't seem to match the concept. A lot of people really seemed to enjoy his playing - maybe they could have a rotation of music styles? The drinks were very good and each unique. I hope they get to keep innovating and trying new things. This bar is so close to being something cool.
Great atmosphere - the music is loud but fun. Absolutely beautiful! But the service is very very slow. Expect to wait 30-45 minutes per cocktail, and they are kind of worth it. Check out other spots before settling on this spot unless you have hours to kill.
Service was ok, the issue I ran into was the bartender wasn’t able to craft me a drink that wasn’t on the menu. However the hollaback girl is perfect for those who like fruity and sweet drinks. Also, if you want something sweet the brownie is really good.
This place still has some things to figure out. Cocktails were great, decor elegant, and vibes immaculate. HOWEVER, the piano threw everything off. If I want to dress up, pay $15 for a cocktail, and sit in a chic dimly lit lounge, the last thing I want to listen to is an acoustic rendition of Rap God by Eminem. The piano and singing was also WAY too loud, distracting from conversation and ultimately tarnishing an otherwise nice experience. I mean no offense to the musician as he was clearly talented but his performance felt contradictory to what the bar seemed to be going for. I came for the drinks not the distracting piano performance. Unfortunately my group could only stomach staying for 1 round of drinks. I had the Smoke Alarm which was wonderfully sweet and smokey, served in a beautiful glass with a crystal clear cube of ice. Everything seemed to be well thought out except the piano guy, it’s honestly jarring. I would love to return to try more of their drinks but until they figure out the direction of the live music I’ll stick with The Green Lady.
Beautiful, classy atmosphere, but sadly the music doesn’t match. If you’ve ever been to Howl at the Moon, this is basically it with better cocktails. The music was way too loud and killed the vibe for my group. It feels like it should be advertised more clearly as a cabaret if they’re going to have this kind of music there regularly (which I hope they don’t)
The older white guy behind the bar tonight was rude, slow, and didn’t pay attention to us. Wouldn’t waste my time or money
no host to check in servers don’t pay attention bartender nonexistent seems like everybody was just in the back most of the time orders never got placed
The atmosphere is great, and cocktails are spot on but... the music is off, WAY off. Lounges like this should be a relaxing experience to enjoy local jazz and conversation with friends but not here. The first time we came in, the pianist was doing Bon Jovi .. seriously awful. We gave it another try last night and same cartooney piano scene, horrible loud music that does not match the atmosphere whatsoever. With as many amazing local musicians in KC, there is no excuse for this. We took guests and the music was so bad it was embarrassing, like the Burger King singing Shania Twain I feel like a woman... We wont go back.
Late at night on weekdays, they pipe out speakers from their front door live singing without any music to back it up or sometimes and a DJ or host talking. People live in the area and stay at the hotel nearby and can hear it all.
So I’m a huge champion for all places downtown KC, as i am a local that lives in the Crossroads. But, this is the first, and only, establishment that I will tell locals and tourists to avoid. The first time we went to Voo Lounge there were very few people present during happy hour and we had some snacks and drinks. Live music was good. Problem was that the place just seemed to ‘forget’ that there were any specials and the bill was full freight on every thing we ordered. After calling attention to the issue it took 30 minutes to address it, and then they said all they could do is give a partial refund instead of the normal advertised happy hour price. So be it. Tonight we tried again. Three of us walked in to get a drink at the bar and the hostess stopped us and said we were not allowed to do so. When I asked why we couldn’t she said they were not allowing walk ins. Seeing 4 or 5 empty tables I just said to seat us at an empty table but she said she couldn’t because some “reservations’’ might be coming. Multiple groups behind us also got told there was nothing. So I said we are just going to get a drink and enjoy the music by standing, but she said we couldn’t. When I politely asked what we could do, she said ‘find another bar’. Which we did. We were there at least 20-30 minutes and no one showed up to fill these phantom reservations seats. This establishment, for some reason, thinks it’s fine to be incredibly rude. Skip this place. Many better options downtown.
I have been to this place 3 times now. My first time was a great experience. Service was awesome, drinks were ok, but the vibe was great with the live music. The second time we went, it took 30min for our drink order to be taken and another 30min for us to get our drinks. We would’ve gotten more drinks if the service wasn’t so slow. The most recent experience was the absolute worst. We came with a large group, had a reservation. Not sure what was happening that night, but there was no hostess to check us in. When we finally got to our table, we learned there was only one server for the entire bar, which was packed by the way. We sat there for 20min, did not get drink menus despite the server stopping by twice and forgetting to bring them both times. We ended up leaving without ordering anything. Not blaming the server, they were doing their best in a stressful situation. But this bar is going downhill.
My wife and I waited at a table for 30 min. I walked up to the bar because the waitress wasn’t coming over to us. The bartender refused to serve us because we were already at a table. Another five minutes and the waitress took our order. Fifteen minutes later, we still didn’t have drinks. We just left. I will put a campfire out with my face before I ever go back.
