Good food and reasonable prices for area.
Best breakfast in Lake Placid! Every time we visit, my husband and I have to eat breakfast and lunch here at least a few times! This morning's breakfast was our second one this week. House baked breads, perfectly done eggs, great burgers, and a great chef and staff!
What a fantastic breakfast!!! Our server Megan was so sweet and was great with our kids! A big shout out to Chef Woods!! Made the best corn beef hash I’ve ever had!! It was honestly amazing!!!!It is my favorite thing to eat at a Diner, this man took it to another level!!❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic homemade biscuits and sausage gravy. I remember when the biscuits used the be the size of plates. I could never finish those so it’s no big loss but it was nice to have some with marmalade as a dessert. The staff is great and the prices are so cheap. We make sure to stop here every time we’re in town. Hubby always get the country fried steak and I do the ADK breakfast sandwich and we’re full enough for a hike in the mountains.
Went in as a party of six and the waitress (young lady) was exceptional. Made a milkshake for one of my party that is legendary and has ruined it for everyone else. Friendly and great prices gave us great directions to our next destination. Def thumbs up
A hidden gem in Lake Placid! Amazing biscuit and gravy that leaves you wanting more. The pancakes are fluffy and delicious. Customer service is amazing Birsen is a gem also. We come to lake placid every year and this is now our go to breakfast place. A no fuss place with great food and great prices.
Great breakfast and service! Everything I'm looking for in a small diner. Ate breakfast there 4 days in a row! Corned beef hash is homemade and delicious 😋
Loved this place! Excellent service, delicious hot breakfast served promptly & really cool décor. Our waiter Woods (possibly the proprietor?) was very friendly, and took care to make sure we were happy with the food AND service. So glad we happened upon this spot - and will definitely return on our next trip!
Went here for early morning breakfast ... homemade hash I very good read about it on the reviews ..very friendly staff .. service was fast great experience and food .. also had the bacon over easy eggs home fries and pancakes everything was done perfect and very good .. thank you love a good breakfast spot ..
We spent 5 days in lake placid, this is hands down the best breakfast spot we found. Coffee was on point, homemade corned Beef hash, build your own omelet you can't go wrong here. When we return you can be assured breakfast will be served here!!
Great service, friendly staff and delicious food for a reasonable price. You will not leave hungry but will be satisfied.
We had a great experience at Downtown Diner! Great food and great service. We were lucky enough to have Woodz as our server and he was amazing, great personality and made our time there so much fun! 100% recommend! Ellen & SOB
Back Again! The best French toast I've ever had! Amazing flavor and texture! I made special trips just for their French toast while I was both in town and out of town. Staff are friendly and attentive. Tables and dishes are clean. Bathroom is clean. Cook will take special requests for orders.
A true diner, this place in downtown Lake Placid is a popular breakfast and lunch place (only open until 2 pm). Our family of five was seated immediately on this a Monday morning about 9:30 and, while the place was busy, there was no wait. Tables are eclectic (we chose a booth), kind of like grandmas dining room and spaced enough apart for ease of service and some room for chairs to be moved. Menu is one sheet but lots of options, coffee good and hot, pancakes are HUGE. A short stack of two could have been shared by four (and I love pancakes!). Good sausage (Pattie’s or links, also bacon or ham), hash browns could have used another minute in the grill to get crisp, biscuits are homemade, gravy is good (I added my own pepper and salt). The true winner is the brioche French toast- tender, a large slice, perfectly browned and cooked through. We ordered the Avalanche which included eggs, toast, meat choice, hash browns and either French toast or pancake. Everything was good. A great stop before sightseeing.
Bright, clean, roomy diner with a very friendly and efficient staff. Ate breakfast here and they had a very good variety, food was prepared well, portions were big. I'll definitely eat here again.
Food was delicious! The sausage gravy is a MUST. I got the biscuits and gravy and my hubby got the chicken fried steak. We both loved our meals. Staff was friendly, the place looks a little dinky but who cares when the food slaps!
So glad we decided to stop here for breakfast. We’ve been to Lake Placid ten times over the years but this was our first time at the Downtown Diner. It won’t be our last! Woods, the host and server made us feel like we’ve been coming regularly for years. The food was outstanding and portion sizes were huge. Perfect for fueling up for a busy day. The diner itself was super clean and the different colored chandeliers were so fun. Highly recommend the Downtown Diner!
This is a great little diner, food is great, prices are great and the service is great! We ended up here because two doors down, The farmhouse Café,. ignored us when we walked in so we walked back out, walked to the downtown diner two doors down and have eaten here two mornings in a row!
We ate breakfast here two days in a row. The service was very good, and the food was prepared with love. Prices are reasonable. The sausage gravy is nice and tasty. We love this Dinner. It is our go-to place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch when we are in Lake Placid.
I was in LP for an appointment and wanted a breakfast sandwich for the hour drive home. Looking at their menu, I saw they made biscuits. A good biscuits is hard to find around here and the Downtown Diner did not disappoint!! Not only was the biscuit flaky and soft and buttery, they split it & put it on the griddle which added a nice toasty crunch. I can't describe how good it was. It's worth the hour drive! I will go back! The breakfast sandwich (Denver omlette style on english muffin) was also delicious!! 10/10!
Food was incredible and the staff was extremely friendly. Only thing that would have made it better would have been some pure maple syrup from Mast family Maple 🍁 😀
Love this diner and always stop by when I am in town. The staff are friendly and the cooks are awesome. Really great vibe and the food is delicious. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone visiting Lake Placid.
“Our server, Lazar, was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. The food at Downtown Diner was delicious and came out quickly. Great experience overall!”
Downtown Diner was a great experience. We came up here for a CAN/AM Hockey Tournament and the food here was great! I had Banana Bread French Toast with Blueberry sauce and it was really good. The service was great and it was a nice quiet family oriented environment. The food was affordable and I would eat there again. Highly recommend it! Great shooting Patriots!!!
Green Eggs and Ham were delicious and some of the best home fries I've ever had! Servers are very friendly.
Great breakfast! Was able to serve a large party, vet gracious, excellent food. Good sized portions
Super cute, diner off the beaten path a bit from all the tourist restaurants. The patty melt was ginormous and delicious, actually the best one I've ever had! Staff was really pleasant and attentive. I would definitely go back!
Had the most amazing breakfast at this wonderful and cosy diner. All the workers were very friendly and respectful. And the chef, wow that fella can cook some great food and he has the nicest personality. His only concern is making sure he serves you good food and he definitely doesn't disappoint. Best sausage gravy and biscuits I've ever had. Highly recommended and will definitely be back. Thanks again to all the staff. Regards, Johnny O
Food was very good. But be prepared to wait for your breakfast to arrive.
The place to go for breakfast while in Lake Placid! Cheerful greeting and seating, immediate coffee and water. Huge 3 egg omelette with a choice of 3 additions 12.50, including toast and maybe the best home fries I've had. Pesto vegetarian Eggs Benedict, toast and home fries $14.75. Delicious coffee, fast cheerful service. Every year when we visit LP we'll be sure to come here for their filling delicious breakfast!
This place is SUPREME! I'm from the south and their southern fried steak is out of this world. Top 10 I've ever had. Woods is an insane chef and should never stop what he's doing, unless he wants to. You do you, Woods. Everyone was kind and I felt like I had lived in Placid my whole life. Don't skip on this one!
I gotta say, this place is great! The people, the diner itself and the food was delicious! Coming from the Brooklyn, and being able to get a bacon egg and cheese that tasted like home was the comfort I was looking for on a road trip. Chef woods Came out to greet my wife my son and myself. That man can cook! This place has a great thing and it’s not only the food and the employees but the skill of the chef.
Warm greeting when I walked in. Recd assistance with Adirondack breakfast combo plus extra pancake on my to go order. Short wait and comfy atmosphere The staff was relaxed and chatting with customers and each other. The food was ready in 10 min after I ordered and all of the selections were scrumptious. Scrambled eggs, buttery toast, savory hash browns, pancake, brioche french toast and crispy bacon were all prepared perfectly and lightly seasoned as expected. Highly recommend this Lake Placid laid-back diner. Would return to try the chicken fried steak any day. Good price for the amount and quality of food we enjoyed.
This was the best meal we had during our visit to Lake Placid. Servers were very attentive, pricing was reasonable, and food was really, really good. Highly recommend the Adirondack Breakfast and Homemade Corned Beef. The owner took the time to talk with me and my family too which was very nice. Not a breakfast I will soon forget.
I had a great time here, everybody were welcoming to us. We were 13 people and they accommodate the tables for us. The waitress was very polite and nice. Good quantity of food. I ordered pancakes and eggs, they were yummie. The place Looks like a traditional diner, very clean and nice. When I come back to Lake Placid, I will have this place in my mind.
Well, we came down from Ol' Snow Mexico (Canada) to see the great place they call Lake Placid. We came here because we read many great reviews. Let me tell you this. The food was amazing, first time I ever had chicken fried steak and eggs with sausage gravy. Service was incredible (Thank you Mr. Woodz we loved you! Keep up the great work, if we ever come back we are definitely hittin you up again). Stay safe and Stay well my friends. I would highly suggest coming here for some great food and nostalgia!
We wanted a quick but enjoyable breakfast and the downtown area was super busy. We looked online and felt that this was the place to try. The whole place from the service to the food was an absolute delight. Furthermore, the price was very reasonable for the times we live in today. The food presentation and taste were very good. Eating downtown would have been 10-15 dollars more for the same thing. Check out the numerous pictures and tell them “some Guy” sent you.
The food was good the fries are seasoned and battered if you opt to get those with your meal instead of the house made chips that come with it. The portion sizes are about average and you have a varied selection of breakfast brunch and lunch items. The staff is courteous and friendly. The overall place was clean but there was a little bit of crumbs and pieces of food under the table where I sat, I give it to them maybe they just didn't get to clean it up yet. The food had a lot of flavor and the prices aren't too bad I think the most expensive thing o. The menus was $11.99. enjoy
I spent two days at the Downtown Diner while visiting in Lake Placid, and I can't think of a more memorable dining experience over the past few years in my favorite mountain town. There have been places where the food stands out, and places where value trumps all. Infrequently, I stumble across an eatery where the genuine camaraderie and welcoming atmosphere demands a repeat visit(s). The general joviality, conversation, and goodwill among staff and customers alike evokes memories of time around a table of extended family. The food is solid with few misses. One day I had the Downtown Diner's Philly cheesesteak. It was easily better than any iteration of the iconic sandwich outside of Center City, and twice as filling. With friendly banter, a good strong coffee, and plenty of local gossip, I could have been somewhere off of Broad Street. Was my impromptu lunch an anomaly or the norm? I decided to go back the next day to find out... Breakfast at the Downtown Diner proved almost as entertaining as lunch. I was pleased with the servings -- especially the extra large buttermilk biscuit (though a bit over-toasted) -- and the rich slab of French toast. It's a place where the coffee and conversation rarely stop flowing and the food is homey and hearty. On my next trip to Placid, I'll look forward to rolling out of bed a little earlier -- just to skip the hotel breakfast and enjoy a morning at Downtown Diner instead.
Totally get the chicken fried steak! Salty fatty goodness!!! Smaller sized portion, but priced accordingly, and that sausage gravy is both different as well as amazing! Biscuit was really good but make sure you get something to put on it! Wifey had some oj. That's why I'm doing the review. :)
Had the corned beef hash and eggs over easy, hash was good, but could have used more crisping. They use real chunks of corned beef and potatoes. My wife had the eggs with sausage, but it was only one patty and the cook broke the yolk. She likes to dip into a runny yolk. Good Service, nice staff.
A go-to place to get a quick and to the point breakfast. The atmosphere is of a small roadside dinner. My favorite there is sausage, biscuit, and gravy with 2 eggs over medium on top. You can't beat the price for the amount of food you get. It's simple meal selection along with the same two people cooking means you very consistent food which is huge for me. I've been eating breakfast there for 5+ years
Good breakfast. Food was made to order and accurate. The eggs Benedict were very nice. The corned beef hash was homemade. It tasted very good. My only complaint is that while I was reviewing the bill, the lady wanted to take of my hands. I found that rude.
Cute dinner with unique. Food is average dinner fare and prices are a bit high for the food. Was disappointed this trip as it wasn't as great of an experience as my first time. Eggs are now the fake bag mixes that have stuff I'm allergic to. Coffee was weak and tasted like they used the grounds a second time and looked like a light tea blend.
The eggs benedict I had for breakfast was delicious I would have liked more hot water for my tea which the waitress didn't seem to come around very much but other than that I'll go again food was delightful atmosphere was nice
Nice simple diner right in Lake Placid! If you’re looking for a nice simple meal to warm your tummy this is the place! I loved their chili and their Italian wedding soup! Also appreciated they used really good quality bacon for my BLT! Coffee was also great! Nice prices for nice food.
Good food, great service. Would get 5 stars if the coffee was included with any given breakfast package but charging 2.50$ for coffee (free refills though) when the coffee quality is mediocre at best is not a good idea. Either improve the coffee or remove the charge no? Other than that service is great, prices are fair and the food quality overall is good.
The food was good and prices reasonable. Not your general tourist spot, this struck me as truly a locals eating est. The place was clean, food was good and it was not crowded so for us it was a good choice. We showed up about 45 minutes before closing and received full, polite service and hot freshly prepared food.
I love this spot! I've been here many times with family. The staff is always friendly and attentive. It's a busy place in the mornings, but you will be seated very quickly. I love ordering coffee, the omelette and hash browns here. The portions are pretty big and the food is always fresh. I love coming here and can't wait to stop back in for breakfast soon.
Food was ok, the grill needed to be cleaned. Serve was ok but not very attentive, another customer was wanted for their food for 45 minutes and we got our food before them. We had eggs, bacon, omelets, home fries and sausage. The bacon was really greasy, eggs had burnt taste because of the grill not being clean. The plate was made to order but was the wrong order. The waiter seemed very over whelmed Overall better breakfast than most places around the Lake Placid area.
It was as expected. Tasty but don't get the "homemade" corned beef hash. Tastes exactly like canned Hormel hash. Not worth the extra charge. Eggs were perfectly cooked and the pancakes were nice and fluffy. We'll eat here again.
I always get 3 eggs over easy with hash browns and soft bacon for breakfast. Eggs were a little underdone. Hash browns are horrible. Cold and dry. Basically inedible if I didn’t soak them in yolk and ketchup. Back. Was good. My sons dish was the same with the same opinion.
There’s definitely many better options in the Lake Placid area. The food was bland and similar to like a high school lunch/breakfast. Wouldn’t go back again.
This has the look and feel of an old-fashioned diner. Eggs and sausage were fine. Pancakes were undercooked, hash browns nearly cold. Coffee was good. BUT, there was a kid from Bosnia that had to wait on every table in the entire place and he was moving fast! Very friendly, hard working. Prices were reasonable. Decent stop for breakfast.
Food was too Salty covering up a bland greasy taste. The credit card machine maliciously directs you to pay 25%, meaning waiters are paid least and throwing it on clients. I paid 18% tips ( cause i had no choice on the screen) for food I didn't finish. That's 3.24$ for a 18$ meal including a watery coffee
I like supporting small diners and honestly this was one of the most expensive if not the most expensive diner I’ve been to. I get it we’re around the Olympic center in a touristy area however $8 for two small glasses of orange juice is a little ridiculous. I could see if they had laborers picking these things off the tree and freshly squeezing them for each of the customers however I doubt that’s the case. The food, however, was immaculate. The atmosphere was pretty decent. The service was slow, but it was one person, so I’m really not gonna harp on her I think she did very good for being a one-man show. All and all decent diner
I wanted to love this place, I really did. The service was "meh" as was the food. It just wasn't anything to write home about (figuratively and literally as we were on vaca haha). The kicker was that the bathrooms were disgusting. Like so dirty, which always makes me wonder how clean the rest of the restaurant/kitchen is. The remainder of the week we hit up Soulshine Bagels and had great food while sitting outside, half the price and more enjoyable. I'm hoping that maybe it was just an off day for the diner.
Decent food. Hostess and server weren’t necessarily rude, but not really friendly either.
Stopped for some breakfast on way out of town. Got the Adirondack breakfast. The sausage and rye toast were good. However the blueberry pancake was not cooked all the way. Home fries lacked flavor but drown them in ketchup and you’re good to go.
My finance and I decided to give this place a try, because farmhouse next door was completely packed. The hostess seemed a little flustered, and at first said she did not have anything available, only large tables, but ended up seating us at a round booth in the corner. No one came over for at least fifteen minutes to take our drink order, meanwhile a six-top walked in very shortly after us, and got their drink and food order taken within just a few minutes of being sat. The server finally came over (after making eye contact multiple times prior to) and asked us if we wanted something to drink; We were ready to put our entire order since we sat there for quite some time, without waters; just felt like we were inconveniencing her. When the food arrived, (I got the BLT with eggs) the entire bottom of my plate was covered in grease, but overall the food was not bad. My fiancé got the Eggs Cornbread Arnold dish, and finished the entire plate. The service was just very disappointed especially because she kept looking over at us, and deliberately ignoring/neglecting us, until my finance was done with his plate, and she was very quick to clean up the dirty dish, and hand us the bill. Sadly, we will not be returning.
Coffee was warm, food was ok, server was ok. We paid our bill at the table and the server just walked away. He didn’t say thank you, have a nice day or anything.
We were ignored for 20 to 30 minute periods between getting seated - 30 minute wait- drink order - 15ish minute wait - drinks arrived - 20 minute wait - offer to take food order - 15 minute for food (food was really good and came out in a reasonable amount of time - we had to wave down the servers several times before we could get a coffee refill and then we're not able to get the staffs attention again until they were ready to bring the bill at which point we pointedly asked for more coffee. Most of our 7 person party ( five adults and 2 5year olds) left instead of trying to get refills. We were the center table and unfortunately because we were a party of seven there was a mandatory 20 percent gratitude. I don't think that should have been applied to our party as our entire table was calm, we did not ask for special orders, we were not checked on often (actually actively ignored several time). The food was good. It is worth getting take out here and enjoying it on the lake or river. If your looking to sit and eat somewhere that will regularly provide the service they charge a gratitude fee for... this is not the place. Our guy seemed to be trying but he didn't seem like he was actually suppose to be the server he seemed more like he was there to assist all the other servers. It was ... disappointing. Additionally if you don't have a certified actually trained service dog.... don't bring them into public establishments. My guide dog got a full two handed facial snuggle from one of the staff before I could stop him.... it is illegal to go REAL service dogs in harness.
Came here per my brothers recommendation. First thing I saw was the ductape on the seat... The best I can say it was okay. Nothing really special or memorable. The brioche french toast was pretty good. The pancakes reminded me of IHOP and the egg and cheese biscuit was pretty basic. Unfortunately the biscuit was extremely dry, even loaded with their hollandaise sauce. Once I added cream and sugar to my coffee it was okay. So, if you're gonna come, keep your expectations minimum. (I would encourage you to bring your annoying step mother here) HOWEVER Our waiter was really nice and the owner was friendly.
It wasnt bad. But it wasn't great either. It was very close to ihop or country kitchen which in a place like lake placid isnt saying too much. We got our food super fast and we were the first people in the door at 7 am. But the bacon was limp tough and cool, as was the fried potatoes. They seemed reheated to be honest. To spend 80 dollars on breakfast on 4 people when 2 of them shared a plate it could have been better for sure.
Missed opportunity to have a great diner in the heart of lake placid. Slow service with a few issues. Food was alright - nothing to write home about, lacking a little a flavor. Prices average. A little effort and menu revamp could get this place back on track.
While the food was excellent. They asked for credit card before receiving bill, which I didn't give a thought about until now a few days later. We have charges on our credit card, including an attempted cash advance to another country. NEVER use your credit card here as they clearly make copies of them and use them for themselves
Food was good, but who charges a $1.50 for a side of mayo? Ketchup, two kinds of hot sauce, syrup, and honey were all on the table at no extra charge. Also didn't quite get the up charge on bacon added to our check. Wife shared the Adirondack breakfast with our kid. Maybe that was why? Just felt like they were just adding in extra charges wherever. We didn't complain. Even left a nice tip. Hate places like this.
Really disappointed in this place, we went after seeing pretty positive reviews. We were 1 of 3 parties there, and did not receive any service for 15 minutes despite both other tables having their food. When we got our food it was cooked very poorly, scrambled eggs had a burnt film, bacon was leather, and home fries were burnt yet chewy. Would not recommend, sorry!
We walked in the door while there were open tables. Stood there for almost 4 and 1/2 maybe 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Sat us down took order never returned to find out if the food was good or not. Then we had to wait for the check. But she never returned to collect the cash. Food was decent but service sucked 100%.
Rudest diner staff I have ever encountered. We didn’t even get food because we decided to leave. Walked in, staff gave us dirty looks and didn’t greet us. We stood there for a few minutes waiting for direction as there was no sign to say to seat ourselves or wait for hostess. Confused on what we should do, we ended up walking up to the counter top to sit down, where we sat for ten minutes while staff looked at us and proceeded to ignore us. When we tried to get a staff members attention to see if we could get menus she ignored us. We ended up standing and walking out. A shame too because we were really excited to try it.
Unfortunately, I have been forced to amend my previous 4-star review of Downtown Diner. After an unfortunate experience at another diner, we came to here hoping for the quality service we'd received before. However, this visit was entirely different. We were told "no" to straightforward menu substitutions that were granted a month ago. Despite claims of being "kinda super busy," half of the dining space was empty, and several staff members were casually conversing. What a disappointment. I'm not sure we'll be returning.
I went to Downtown Diner for breakfast and was very disappointed. The food was terrible, poorly cooked and lacked flavor. The place itself feels extremely outdated and rundown, which made the whole experience even worse. Definitely not somewhere I’d recommend or return to.
Too bad. Walked in no eye contact from hostess. They seemed overwhelmed. Once they cleaned off a table we sat ourselves. Neither of the two ladies ask us if we wanted a beverage. Finally one of the two brought over waters to our table. Still no hello, no eye contact. My husband and I wanted to order coffee, but neither of the two ladies came over to our table. They continued to take dirty plates back to the kitchen. More worried about clearing off tables than taking our oder. They would buzz by but never stopped to take our order. The couple that was seated after us were able to order coffee. I guess they do not take care of customers in any particular oder. We decided to leave. I would not recommend this diner. We left due to poor service. No smiles no welcome or greeting us.
The food was not very good. I ordered coffee and the creamer provided had been sitting out on another table was room temp-warm. The coffee itself was hot which is good. All of the flatware was dirty, the syrup at the table and ketchup both seemed questionable. The table next to me had to send their ketchup back because it had expired. After tip I paid $50 and I will never return. Id rather grab dunkin to be honest.
Walked in and sat at the counter, was told we needed to check in first and can’t just walk up to the counter(could have politely told us rather than having an attitude). News to me as any diner I’ve been to the counter is first come first serve. We’re then told they could maybe get to us in 10-15 minutes, we decided to go elsewhere after that interaction. Disappointing.
