I love Yoshi Sushi! If you're there at lunchtime do not miss the lunch special... 12.95 as of March 2024. See my picture... it's a creative repurposing of items left over from the previous day plus some rolls and nigiri. That fish under the sesame seeds is a slab of miso black cod.... incredible and worth the price all by itself!
Decent size portions, quality was very good and the prices are very reasonable, for sushi and Sashimi. Not a quick in and out place, unless you call in an order for takeout.
I wish I had room for more!! As I entered the restaurant I was immediately greeted with friendly faces. I sat down at the sushi bar and as I was sitting down I was given hot tea & a miso soup without asking (which was VERY appreciated on this 18° day). Their menu was easy to look through with plenty of options and a nice casual environment to go with it. I got the Linda roll and two different types of nigiri and holy portion sizes!! They were full and incredibly fresh bites. Highly recommend, will be back when I'm in town again.
I like bringing my own drink here and having a quiet solo meal. I recommend coming at off peak hours because they only have 1-2 people in the kitchen and there's both dine in and takeout traffic. Great fish to rice ratio on the nigiri.
This place is a perfect no nonsense sushi place. Complimentary hot tea and miso made my winter morning. The sushi is high quality from what I've had. Atmosphere is average but you wanna go here for the sushi anyway. First time having Inari sushi. I need to have it again!
ol' Yosh' must have really done his homework when finding a buyer for his restaurant because the new guy is absolutely on the same par. Usually you don't expect miso soup to be much more than bathwater; good enough for an appetizer and definitely not the most memorable part of the meal, but that was the most flavorful and comforting miso I've envountered; I wonder if he makes his own? The cucumber roll had this bitter sauce in it that I've never seen before either but IT WORKED with the sweet cucumber and the starchy rice and especially washed down with some earthy green tea. Yeah, this guy knows what he's doin
Yoshi Sushi with new owners is... dare we say it, even better than it was before? We delayed visiting after hearing that Yoshi sold the business, especially after seeing the first few not-so-great reviews. We figured it would take the new owners some time to sort through things and get up to speed, and that seems to be the case. Our first visit back since the original owners handed off the baton was actually... great. We ordered a few old favorites: Mixed sunomuno, Eel avocado, etc. They taste nearly identical to how Chef Yoshi prepared them, indicating that the exact recipes were passed along. Even the egg was the exact composition (Though you can see the technique is not 100%, but tastes the same) The eel in the roll is still served warm, which was one of the things that Yoshi did that no other restaurants seem to do. Sushi was all about the same level of execution that we experienced before, with the only exception being the octopus- which was extremely tough and looked a bit freezer burned. I think the sunomuno is also slightly less substantial than what Yoshi used to serve, but honestly I am just glad that it still mostly tastes the same. A refreshing salad now comes with the meal, with miso soup still complimentary. The service is ... let's say, much less jarring for new customers now. The new owner is very nice, exudes Japanese hospitality, and is very attentive. A welcome change. Bottom line: Same sushi, now with great service and a different sort of charm. Another score for Latham foodies!
We were on our way back to Boston from the midwest and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place than this. Food was great, service was great, they receive you with amazing green tea and miso soup which were delicious, sushi chef was always wearing gloves and restrooms were perfectly clean. Great, great, great.
Best sushi we have eaten in years, if not ever. Mom and pop shop, and every roll is made fresh, so you gotta be patient. (Came in right after a giant party of businessmen, and when I tell you we didn’t get our food for an hour and the sushi was worth the wait, you catch my drift!) The salmon skin with salmon on top absolutely to die for. Yoshi is very clearly a master of his craft!
Nice quiet place with the best sushi around. Only two people running it, the chef and his wife. Everything here is top notch, and assembled with respect to the trade, using excellent ingredients and beautiful presentation. I imagine this is what it feels like walking into a sushi shop in Japan with the simple yet warm decor and neon lights. Some others complain of slow service, but I instead like to look at it as a non-rushed experience. You may also bring your own sake! Thank you, Yoshi sushi looking forward to the next visit!
Original review 2023 (5/5) - Wish this place was bigger :( I’d bring a huge group here because the sushi is such high quality. Especially the spicy salmon and tuna, usually it’s ground up but this place serves real pieces of fresh fish. And it’s actually spicy!!! Unlike a lot of western influenced places. I highly recommend coming here for authentic, genuine, and high quality rolls. I consider myself a sushi connoisseur (been eating sushi all my life all over the country) and this place definitely took my #1 spot. Review 2026 - 4/5. Sushi quality and fish is still a 5/5. However our party of 3 waited quite a while to be served with constant reminders of water refills (brought out 2 instead of 3 cups). If it was busy I wouldn’t think twice about this, but there was one other party there (of 2) and they got there about 15 minutes after I did. They were served first and we waited about 45 minutes for our food even tho we ordered well before them. Because of this, 1 star was lost.
Sushi rolls aren't the best, but the nigiri was good. You fill out a paper menu, checking the items you want to order, then you'll get it back with your receipt/bill. I wasn't thrilled with the Shirakiku drink, maybe because I was expecting it to be sweeter? They did give out complimentary candies with the receipt. All orders come with soup. Takeout and catering available.
First off the service is beyond slow. We waited over an hour just to get fee sushi rolls. Then they didn’t offer any drinks and we had to ask for them and the lady just pointed to the fridge. The sushi came out and the fish was nasty and not fresh at all and smelled fishy and grey in color. Definitely not fresh and just plain nasty and not edible. This place is also dirty with fruit flies flying around. The health department needs to come out here and inspect their food and food safety preparation. I would never ever go back. Horrible service, food and place is dirty!
Basically had to ask them to get my to go order because they ignored me. I got the some sushi which was warm and slimey looked old, like it was sitting out and a Yoshi roll that sounded good but is just a jumble of crap with other ingredients not listed. How are you supposed to eat this ? The shrimp is old a rubbery. Super disappointed for 55 bucks i could have just gotten a platter or gone to market 32 for better sushi. But dont think I'm ever going back wont even feed this to my dog.🤢
