Try the bestest savours and flavours of Shanghai, China and Taipei, Taiwan and set your table for this fine meal in South Bay. Delicious dumplings, soup noodles. Vegetables, fried fish filets, fried chops. Take with a fine passionfruit green tea. Or boba milk tea. Some times are busier than others. But the wait staff is always working hard skidaddling to please. With professional courtesy of ease. A wonderful culinary corner.
I’ve been going to Canaan Cafe for years, they are one of my favorite go to Taiwanese restaurants in the area. Great food. Great deals. The restaurant itself is clean yet small. Get there early on weekend or you may have a wait. The service is super friendly and polite. They can answer any questions you have. Onion Pancake Spicy wonton Beef Noodle Soup Stir Fried String Beans with Garlic Honey Walnut Shrimp Eggplant with Basil Canaan Special Fish Filet Salt Pepper Egg Tofu Assorted Chow Mein Amazing lunch combos available 11am - 2:50pm M-F starting at $15 including main, rice and a drink
Excellent quality with a wide range of options in the menu. The dim sum was very good. The location is in a small strip mall that does not face the main road, so you need to keep an eye out for the sign. Parking lot right in front, but somewhat limited. Soup. Soup dumplings were good and the green beans were not overcooked, which is always a good thing. Quite a few regulars inside as well as a lot of food to go. They clearly have a loyal base because they are consistently good. There is a new location opening in the peninsula center in Palos Verdes, hopefully by the end of 2025.
I’ve been here for several times. Love this restaurant. Their popcorn chicken is really good. Highly recommended. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Canaan Cafe is a restaurant in Lomita that I really like. Great Taiwanese restaurant. I enjoy their crispy salted chicken, soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, walnut shrimp, and braised beef noodles. The flavors are authentic, and the rich broth is delightful. Their signature fish fillet is fried to perfection and drizzled with black pepper sauce, making it delicious. The tender and smooth texture of the French-style beef cubes is delightful, and the service from the staff is friendly. This restaurant is definitely worth a try!
Parking: They’re located in a small corner plaza with very limited parking spots. Free parking lot. Ambiance/Environment: They have a small space with a warm & welcoming environment. There’s limited indoor seating, and no outdoor seating. Make sure to come early because their dinner rush starts at 6pm! Service: Everyone was amazing, but Bonnie was above & beyond exceptional! She's very courteous and attentive. Bonnie gave us their most popular recommendations. She’s knowledgeable about the menu and explained everything with detail. Everything we ordered: Appetizers: 1) Popcorn Chicken - These were so delicious! The breading tasted as the usual popcorn chicken should taste. I ordered these spicy, and oh .. these were spicy. 2) Green Onion Pancake - The perfect simple appetizer. Such a comfort food that I love. No need for any sauce! 3) Steamed Shanghai Dumplings - Wooo careful for the hot soup that might squirt out! Bonnie told us these were hand made. The exterior was soft, and the meat was good! Entrees: 4) French Style Beef Filet Mignon - The beef was cooked perfectly! These were surprisingly soft and not too chewy! 5) Canaan Special Fish Fillet - The fish was cooked well and absolutely flavorful! It had a nice glaze to it. 6) Salt n Pepper Pork Chop - This was my favorite dish out of everything! Now I know why it’s so popular! These were definitely savory & sweet; emphasis on sweet. It had a syrup-like taste. Noodle & rice: 7) Braised Pork on Rice - Another comfort dish that I love! These reminded me of my ba noi’s thit kho minus the brown egg. 8) Dan Dan noodles - They were not shy with the spiciness or peanut sauce! All the flavors came through! The noodles were also cooked well. Drinks: 9) Jasmine green tea - Very refreshing. This does not come with sugar, but you can add it with the sugar from the table. 10) Thai tea - Can’t go wrong with one of the classics. This wasn’t overly sweet. Equal portions of tea and creamer. Pricing: My bf and I enjoyed everything! We left satisfied and fulfilled! We’ll be back for more!
Sweet and Sour Pork Chops with Broccoli and Steamed Rice. The Pork Chops were cooked perfect and tender, Broccoli was tender and cooked the way that I like. Vegetable Chow Mein was delicious with lots of veggies and pork. Mongolian Beef was tender with onions and slightly spicy. This place is very popular. Service is very good and the servers are very nice.
This place is great in the southbay. The beef noodle soup broth is flavorful and the beef is very tender. It all goes together well. The onion pancake is decent. The Shanghai dumplings and wonton in chili sauce are very good and tender. The special fish fillet is very tender and flaky for the fish and a decent portion. The staff was very nice and attentive and helpful. The shop itself is a bit small so on busy nights, it might get packed. They also do takeout.
I have noticed that this place is packed during dinner hours so my wife and I decided to try this place out and we are super happy that we did. We started with the dumplings that was packed with flavor then we tried the spicy wontons and loved the spicy but not too hot flavor. We started ordering with our eyes, we had to order the spicy braised beef noodle soup as we noticed the server delivering it to another table with all of its bright green and chunks of stewed beef on display. We found the honey shrimp to be sweet with a slight crispy crust, and the all meat chow mein was very tasty and we brought it home !! The restaurant can be a bit loud, they could add some noise dampening to the ceiling.
Welcome to the third location of this traditional Taiwanese restaurant in Torrance. The original location has been serving customers in Cerritos for several decades. However, it's worth noting that this new location offers a more limited menu compared to the original one in Cerritos. Canaan Café is an OG in the Taiwanese restaurant scene, known for its authentic and delicious food. The dishes are consistently tasty, and the ingredients are always fresh. The staff members are incredibly friendly and provide excellent menu recommendations. If you're a fan of Taiwanese cuisine, this place is a must-visit. Quick tips: You'll find many parking spaces in the plaza. Some must-try items include the Canaan Special Fish Fillet, Special Pork Chop, and Braised Pork on Rice.
Lovely setting of popcorn chicken and passion fruit green tea😀 Yummy dinner !

Food was good and service was great and nice, waitress were super friendly.
We really love the food here. The aroma of the bag was so good the nice lady ran to bring my phone that was left. Extremely nice ladies always have a smile on their face. Mr. Lee & family will return for more great Thai food.

This place is sooo good and everything is so fresh and flavorful. All the food is really high quality. The servers are all really nice and attentive and it looks really clean. This is definitely a new favorite spot! I loved the fish fillet and the French style fillet mignon.
New Taiwanese restaurant to the South Bay. Bordering Torrance and Lomita. The prices are good, service is fast, and the food is decent. Beef noodle soup is average, but popcorn chicken and stinky tofu are great. Free parking in the strip mall plaza. Good for fast dining and decent food for the area.
Must order: Braised Pork on Rice! So yummy! They have fried stinky tofu if that's your thing. It was more on the mild side, not that stinky lol. The braised beef noodle soup, string beans with ground pork, popcorn chicken, potstickers and canaan special fish fillet were good too. For dessert, order the shaved ice!
Great beef noodle soup. The broth is very flavorful and the noodles cooked just right. Beef chunks are generous. The stinky tofu is good but could be stinkier :))
Good green onion pancakes. XLB is not very juicy with thick wrappers. Beef noodle got good flavors. Stinky tofu was fair n not worth getting it. Canaan special pork chops was decent n worth getting it if u like pork chops. But I would get the salt n pepper pork chops instead. Portion is smaller than I am used to at others for dinner.
We have been ordering from the Canaan enterprise during the pandemic and it was great that they opened a store here in the South Bay! It’s new, the experience was good but not yet great. The food was pretty good, everything tasted the way they should. Siu Mai and Potstickers were both excellent. Soup noodles were good. Service was fine, servers were prompt. However, kitchen was a bit slower than expected. There were only 3 tables but things didn’t come out quickly. Hopefully this improves over time. Similar set up as the previous Modou restaurant, probably just newer tables, so it’s a little more pleasant. Tips: go when you are not in a hurry, or order ahead of time for to-go as kitchen is still a bit slow.

Overall I liked the food and the service was ok. I didn't find the cleanliness of the restaurant particularly appealing. The chili oil wontons were just okay but the salt and pepper pork chop was pretty good, and comes with a beverage on the lunch combo menu.
I am extremely disappointed from the customer service I received. i asked them if they have the taiwanese beef roll, and they said “no we dont have that, stop asking thats only for entrees” in a really rude way with attitude. It’s not like a lot of people were there as it was the day before christmas eve. The portions were very small for the price and not worth buying for a family. The beef noodle soup did not taste fresh, it had a pungent flavor. The pork chops lacked flavor. They did not update their menu from the website when there was no boba listed on it. Honestly, it was not worth the hype. You’re better off going to northern cafe.
