had the pleasure of dining at Gunpowder, London, and it was an unforgettable experience. The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was full of rich flavors and beautifully presented. The service was extraordinary: warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Even though there was a slight delay, the team handled it so graciously and even treated us to complimentary sweets, which was such a thoughtful touch. Gunpowder truly delivers on both quality and hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic and memorable Michelin-star dining experience!♥️♥️♥️
I went to this restaurant recently (I saw a reel) and I had a great time. For food, I had the Karwari Soft Shell Crab which was delectable. This was my first time eating crab and the shell was crunchy yet the meat was tender. It was served with a curry which was very good (although not sure of the exact flavours). The spicy venison and vermicelli doughnut was great as well. The exterior coated in vermicelli had a delightful crunch and the venison was flavourful. I ordered the Maa’s Kashmiri Lamb Chop. I was disappointed to say the least. The meat was not at all juicy or tender and was very chewy and dry. It wasn’t well seasoned either and the portions were smaller than one would expect for a main. However, the dessert made up for it (in part). I had the Old Monk Rum pudding which was delectable. It was served with lightly spiced vanilla ice cream which gave a nice sweet and cool taste. Overall, the food was very good. The service was good. Our waitress, Rashmi, checked up on us quite a few times to see if we wanted to order drinks or more food or just to refill our glasses. She went to check with the back of the house for some of our questions and responded promptly as well. To be honest, I did not the atmosphere as much I should have but I did not feel uncomfortable. We sat on the upper level -(maybe because there were 6 of us) so did not see much of the lower floor but there was a mini bakery with patties and the like near the entrance. The lighting was not harsh but nice and warm. I would recommend anyone reading this to visit the restaurant definitely, and try the crab if u can (although order the lamb chops at your own risk haha).
We got aloo chat, spicy venison and vermicelli doughnut, wings, okra fries, poussin and lamb chop. We loved the lamb chop and the vegetarian plates but we are not a big fan of chicken in Gunpowder. Place was very busy and tables were very close to each other though this is given in any popular restaurant in London. Overall, like it here and would come back.
Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, the ambiance was perfect and everything was 100% on point. Special shout-out to Sandeep for the great service and conversation, really enjoyed chatting about our DJI drones and gimbals! Also, big thanks to Raghav for being so helpful and attentive. Fantastic team, great atmosphere and top-quality food. Highly recommended. I will definitely be coming back!
The food was fantastic, flavours of all ingredients could be tasted throughout every meal. Even the Chaats which are normally standard in most places really hit the spot. Can't recommend the Duck and the lamb chops enough. Best of all Raghav was absolutely fantastic attentive host, made sure we were well looked after and his recommendations were on point. Definitely visit!
e celebrated our civil wedding at gundpowder and couldn’t recommend it any more. Even before the big day, the team were always just a text away, letting us make amendments to the menu as we wished and listening to all our wishes. They even prepared the wedding cake! On the day itself everything went perfectly - obviously the food was amazing but the service was also excellent and it made our day even more special! We loved every moment at Gunpowder and we’ll definitely be back! Thank you
Stumbled on this wonderful restaurant. As someone with a nut allergy I have avoided Indian restaurants for years but Gunpowder doesn’t use nuts! Wonderful! Would recommend. Food: really tasty. So much flavour whilst not being too spicy for me! Lamb was delightful as well as the tandoori chicken Atmosphere: very busy but they fit us in with no booking (would recommend booking). Food was quick so good atmosphere. Would make a nice date night Service: Friendly and efficient service (our waiter was Raghav)
Gunpowder celebrated their 10th year anniversary this month. Decided to try their food with menu pricings going back to 2016. In all honesty, I was left surprised with the variety they had to offer. The quantity was right for 4 people, different flavours and cocktails that complemented. Must try's - Soft shell crab, gunpowder chicken wings, egg curry masala, saag with tandoori paneer and gun powder chaat. Must try dessert - Old monk bread and butter pudding Cocktail to try ( if you like gin) - Cardamom and lemon gimlet
We had an incredible experience here. The service was impressively quick, and every dish we ordered was delicious. Our favorites were the soft-shell crab, spicy venison doughnut , and the chocolate cake with chai-infused cream. Each dish was not only flavorful but also uniquely creative, with beautifully balanced, thoughtfully curated flavors. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy modern Indian cuisine.
I had an excellent meal at Gunpowder Tower Bridge. The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. A little heads-up: you definitely need to enjoy spicy food to get the most out of the menu! While not every single dish is hot, the kitchen certainly doesn't hold back on the spice. The staff were also very nice and helpful in guiding us through the menu. Highly recommended if you love bold Indian flavors.
An absolute gem for Indian food near Tower Bridge. Yes, it’s on the pricier side — but every single bite justifies it. The flavors are rich, authentic, and beautifully layered, with each dish cooked to perfection and presented with care. From the depth of the gravies to the balance of spices, you can tell this is Indian cuisine done at a truly elevated level. The quality of ingredients, attentive service, and elegant setting make it a memorable dining experience rather than just a meal. If you’re craving exceptional Indian food in London, this place is 100% worth it.
Not posting the glamorous food plated beautifully. But instead, posting plates we cleaned out. Genuinely top quality Indian food. Perfect serving sizes. The staff were incredible. Especially our server Raghav. Taste - 10/10 Quality of cuts - 10/10 Service - 10/10 Vibe/ambiance - 9/10 (a bit crowded) Highlight - lamb shank.
I ate karwari soft shell crab and spicy vension and vermicelli doughnot. Crab was delicious and the curry or sauce on that was flavourful. The atmosphere was good. Deem lights and slow music.
Came here just for a quick bite, ended up having a proper meal. The food was amazing and the service even better. Swostika really looked after us, lovely person!!
Phenomenal meal and service. Siddharaj went above and beyond. All of his recommendations were spot on. Would definitely go again if given the chance
DO NOT MISS! this is a great place to get food right near the Tower Bridge. I wasn’t aware of the restaurant’s Michelin award status at the time we dined but it makes perfect sense. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly, and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our favorites were the soft shell crab, kale salad and tandoori chicken. It’s a bit pricy here but well worth it if you can swing it. We also enjoyed our cocktails especially the gimlet!
Gunpowder Restaurant near London Bridge is a Michelin Star Indian restaurant where beautiful presentation combines with mouthwatering dishes effortlessly. Of late, the restaurant has launched themed set menu focusing on a particular region of India and this time it was Bengal. This was a happy coincidence after having watched Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali on the big screen at a limited screening in BFI Southbank. What a perfect way to end the screening of one of the best films in Bengali concluded with a lunch that reminded me of Calcutta! The service was amazing, so helpful, the outdoor seating wonderful and in view of the London Bridge and the food finger licking good! We will be back that is for certain!
Had my birthday dinner here in December, and loved the food and service. The portions for the feasting menu were ample and liaised with Akhil who made my booking process smooth and even swapped out a dish for me. My friends and I found the selection delicious; the Bengali beetroot croquettes and the old monk pudding at the end were special hits. Our server Siddharaj was very friendly and checked up on us regularly, we found his sense of humour in going along with our jokes very funny and we appreciated his service! All in all, a great experience to remember.
Delicious food right next to tower bridge (look at the pic of the view outside the restaurant!). Such flavoursome food. The best bits were the kollam duck (this was a special though!), egg curry, soft shell crab, gunpowder chaat, doughnut, tandoori saag paneer and the cardamom basque cheesecake (unreal!). The Portuguese white wine was also really nice.
Best Indian Restaurant in London!! Me and my friend visited on a Friday evening. We had everything that was recommended to us, Chaat, Venison Doughnut, Mustard Broccoli, Lamb Chop 340g, Rice and Basque Cheese cake. Everything was delicious and just perfect amount for us!! The service was fantastic, Asha was the best waitress ever!
We had a fantastic experience at Gunpowder today, thanks to the wonderful service from Raghav. He was incredibly warm, attentive, and made us feel truly looked after from the moment we arrived. His recommendations were spot-on, and he made sure everything ran smoothly throughout our meal. It’s rare to come across service that feels so genuine and caring—Raghav absolutely elevated our dining experience. Thank you for making our visit so special!
If you are looking for authentic Indian cuisine, which has right mix of spices and taste as local, look no further. Ever since I’ve been to Gunpowder it’s become my favourite place to go. Adding this place to my to-go list for Indian cuisine ranking top. Enjoyed all the dishes foodtastically! My most favourite dishes and desserts: Old Monk Rum Bread & Butter pudding - can’t stop just at one. Chargrilled Tandoori Chicken - right kick in spices, love it Rasam Bombs - it’s a hybrid of panipuri and dosa, delicious
We went for dinner with my friend on Valentine Day Night and it was truly an amazing experience for both of us. Their Chat, Pakoda & Tandoori Chicken chop was top notch. Special shoutout to Siddharaj for making our night special, thanks Siddharaj for your lovely recommendations. We can’t wait for our next visit.
We loved Gunpowder so much. We went to the Tower Bridge restaurant and the staff were friendly and attentive. Our server, Rahul, was particularly kind and helpful. The food was amazing - really great flavours and a fantastic range. Their January prices make it a great time to try plenty of new things. In particular, the sea bass and chocolate lava cake with masala cream really stood out. Would highly recommend!
I had one of the best dining experiences in London at Gunpowder on Duchess Walk, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and full of that modern Indian charm that Gunpowder is known for. But what truly elevated the evening was the incredible service from our server, Siddharaj. He was attentive without ever being intrusive, genuinely friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendations were spot on — every dish he suggested turned out to be a flavour-packed standout. You could tell he cares about the guest experience, and that made the meal feel even more special. The food itself was exceptional: bold, creative, beautifully presented, and bursting with authentic Indian flavours. Each plate felt like its own adventure, and everything arrived perfectly timed. Combined with Siddharaj’s thoughtful guidance, it made for a memorable meal from start to finish. If you’re in London and looking for an extraordinary Indian dining experience, Gunpowder is a must, and if you’re lucky enough to have Siddharaj as your server, you’re guaranteed a fantastic evening.
I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our waitress, Swastika, was an excellent server and host. She was very attentive without being intrusive, very knowledgeable about the menu, and made great recommendations that really enhanced our meal. Her friendly attitude and professionalism made us feel genuinely welcome. Overall, everything from the service to the food was top-notch. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to friends and family!
An incredible dining experience! The service was impeccable, but the real highlights were the dishes—each one was a masterpiece. Huge congratulations to the chefs; every bite was perfection. The decor is chic and understated without any clichés, creating a perfectly elegant atmosphere. A must-visit for anyone who loves top-tier indian food!
We had an amazing evening here at Gunpowder Tower Bridge! Rashmi was our waitress and it was such a pleasure, she explained the menu excellently (and easily understandable for us non-native speakers)! Such a great evening and the food is divine in terms of taste, experience and presentation. We can highly recommend it!
Really good food, but we tried the original menu from 2016. LOVED the chili cheese toastie, the wings were to die for! The malai broccoli was nice too! The rasam Bombay was underwhelming and 1 puri for 4.5 pounds is a kind of a scam. But everything else, including the service was great.
I visited during their 10-year anniversary celebration month. The food was okayyy, I’ve definitely had better food for a lower price. The ambience was decent, nothing too special. The highlight for me was the dessert: an Old Monk pudding, easily a 10/10, absolutely loved it. I also enjoyed the toastie, it had a really nice flavour.
Went during their 10 year anniversary so all prices were what they would have been in 2016. The food and service was great. The Lamb chops and Rum pudding were the standouts. However it was nothing groundbreaking. If I had paid the regular price for the food I would have left disappointed for sure. It’s good food and good service but the quality doesn’t equal the normal pricing.
We visited Gunpowder Tower Bridge to try their January Anniversary menu, and overall the food was amazing. One standout for me was the Spicy Venison and Vermicelli Doughnut; absolutely delicious, and the sauce it came with really elevated the dish. It was also visually unique and eye-catching, which made it even more enjoyable. I also tried the Karwari soft shell crab, which was decent but not quite as memorable as some of the other dishes. The Maa’s Kashmiri lamb chop was cooked to perfection; tender and full of flavour and although the sauce it came with was a little underwhelming and lacked depth. That said, the quality of the meat itself more than made up for it. For dessert, I had the Old Monk rum pudding, and honestly, despite not being much of a dessert person, this was unreal. Easily one of the best desserts I’ve had, and I’d happily order it again and again. I’d also really like to highlight the service. Our waiter Hardhav (hope I’ve got the name right) was incredibly friendly, smooth, and genuinely lovely to chat with, which made the experience even better. The female bartender also deserves a mention, although we didn’t interact much, she was always smiling and was more than happy to help whenever needed. Overall, a fantastic dining experience with great food, warm service, and a buzzing atmosphere. Would definitely return.
Gunpowder has been around for a while now and has always been differentiated through their menu, which notably offers no curries and no naans. I visited for lunch on a Thursday to try out the original menu - including original prices - from when they opened 10 years ago (on offer throughout January 2026). It was really quiet at the time with just a couple of other tables occupied. I ordered the venison and vermicelli doughnut, chilli cheese toastie, one lamb chop, the pulled duck in oothappam, and to finish the old monk rum pudding. Favourites were the signature venison doughnut (loved the accompanying dip), the pulled duck and the rum pudding. These 3 items were excellent. The chilli cheese toastie was nice enough but something you could easily make at home, and the lamb chop although well seasoned was a bit tough. Service was very friendly but the food did take a while to get delivered, so not the speediest of places. Without any drinks the bill came to £33. Definitely 10 year old prices with all 5 items being under a tenner! Overall a great deal and one worth checking out in these few weeks remaining in January.
Food is decent but the portions are way too small. Okra fries were way too salty but the spinach paneer and lamb shank were good.
We went in around 11.50 AM. and We thought gun powder meant the powder used on top of idly. We were told we needed reservation and were said to leave. They said our experience needed atleast more than an hour. When I checked for reservations, reservations were easily available. So we booked and went. They said we had to leave within a hour as they were booked....so was not clear. The cocktail was great. Everything was good except the lamb pulav which was cold inside. So not clear there Rest were good. Detailed review coming up.
The Spicy Vennison and Vermicelli Doughnut was the stand out dish, accompanied by a chilli and fennel sauce, this dish is packed with flavour and texture, a 10 out of 10 dish. The rest of the dishes that we tried, lamb chop, soft shell crab and the lamb shank, didn't hit the heights of the Doughnut.
This former Michelin-starred Indian restaurant was disappointing. Despite the premium pricing, the service was subpar, with inattentive staff and slow service. The food was mediocre, with undercooked prawns and some dishes lacking depth and complexity. Additionally, the Prosecco and juices seemed stale and low-quality. Considering the high prices, the overall experience fell short of expectations and wasn't worth the money. Unless significant improvements are made, I wouldn't recommend or return.
The food is average. The chaat is so bad. Absolutely terrible chat with no chutney and no garnish and potatoes have skin on it. The egg curry is good. The staff is average. Some of the staff is very very nice like the lady there, but the managers and other staff is not very polite. The restaurant is overcrowded and tables are so close to each other. I asked for a better table and they didn’t give Inspite having free tables. Starters are overpriced, curries and sides are decent. Too loud and noisy.
Visited Gunpowder in London with high expectations and opted for the Share With 2 menu. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in several areas. The meal started with a chaat and a beetroot chop. The chop was noticeably over-fried, losing its texture and flavor. The chaat was essentially a mix of potatoes, yogurt, and chickpeas—missing the layers of tang, spice, crunch, and freshness that make a traditional chaat exciting. It felt one-dimensional and lacked the vibrant flavors I was expecting. The mains included rice, egg curry, and a single piece of chicken tandoori. While both the egg and chicken tasted good, they were swimming in oil, which made the dishes feel unnecessarily heavy. We were also given a kulcha on the house, but it didn’t resemble a kulcha at all. It was more like a pita bread split open with some stuffing—far from what one would expect in terms of texture or authenticity. Overall, I had very high hopes for Gunpowder, but the execution and consistency didn’t match the reputation. There were a few good flavors, but the experience didn’t come together in the way I had hoped.
Service was genuinely pleasant, and the ground floor was free from any strong odours. The second floor did carry a more noticeable kitchen smell, though nothing overwhelming. BUT things went DOWNHILL rather quickly from there. The restaurant is still using its 2016 menu and prices, yet the portions feel markedly smaller than what those prices once suggested. Rasam ke Bomb remains £4.5, but receiving a single miniature bomb makes the comparison with earlier years rather difficult to ignore. Most dishes follow the same pattern of being surprisingly modest in size. Two of us spent £80 and left only half full. (The dishes also appear noticeably larger in the photos than they do in reality.) The sea bass was particularly disappointing. It wasn’t fresh — the texture was mushy and the seasoning didn’t do much to rescue it. I had even asked beforehand whether the fish was fresh and only ordered it after being reassured that it was, which made the outcome all the more disheartening. The cauliflower served alongside it was, rather tellingly, far tastier than the fish itself. The okra fries were also far too salty — and I’m someone who normally enjoys salty and spicy food — which didn’t help the overall impression. The absence of roti or naan at an Indian restaurant is, frankly, quite surprising. We ended up going elsewhere to finish our meal. Regrettably, we won’t be returning.
The service was good, ambience was good, the food flavour and quantity was below average. The “old 2015 price” menu offer is just a gimmick. The quality and quantity seriously took a toll. Lamb chop (1) for £16 and it was tiny (see pictures) Lamb shank had 1 table spoon of mash £18sh Gunpowder chaat was flavourless with no gunpowder flavour. Okra fries were fine. Chilli cheese toastie didn’t have any spice. The Food is not worth the price
The quality of the food is reasonable, but quantity is perfect. There is small plates than there is what gunpowder serve, which is a like a single bite. The atmosphere is also not great. They want you to buy 4-5 plates per person but then they have the smallest tables so you can't even have that many plates at once and it all feels quite rushed. You can get better quality food elsewhere with more quantity and better atmosphere for the same price elsewhere.
I arrived 10 mins late, but luckily my friend was there on time and knew what to order! The food came out quickly and as we chatted we slowly ate. The waiting staff asked if they could clear our dishes (which still had food on them) around 5-6 times during the evening. One dish literally hadn’t even been started yet. We felt really forced out and eventually were - we were told we had to leave as we’d gone over our time when we checked we were actually exactly on our table ending time. The food was cleared without any options of taking it away despite quite a lot being left over. We were also heavily encouraged to order a cocktail as they only had 0% beer. It felt really rushed and actually quite a horrible experience when the price is what it is - even with the Jan discount it was just under £100 for 2. The sea bass was really overcooked and tasteless. Otherwise the food was pretty good! There’s much better Indian restaurants in London where you can spend longer than 1.5 hours at the table and relax!
