We booked our wedding meal at Le Salon Privé for 35 of our friends and family in September and it was one the biggest highlights of our whole day. All members of staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Gianluca was great in the build up to the day helping us create a bespoke menu and was able to answer any queries we had. It almost goes without saying that the food was delicious, all our guests were really impressed. I highly recommend booking for special occasion or private event. A massive thank you again to Gianluca and the team! Can't wait to return.
A beautiful and quirky restaurant. The food is so delicious mainly the cheese soufflé and Chateaubriand. Great place for couples and families.
Very cozy and discreet restaurant decorated with taste. Excellent refined and always innovative cuisine with a delicate taste and also beautiful dishes to look at !! I recommend the snails for those who have never eaten them an experience not to be missed. From appetizer to dessert all delicious the fantastic crème brulé but the cherry clafutie with vanilla ice cream unsurpassed
Really lovely French bistro on a quiet street in St Margaret’s. Delicious food, great service and attentive staff. We had the Lamb rump (which was incredible) and beef. Highly recommend!
Absolutely fab neighbourhood restaurant in St Margarets. On Tuesday and Wednesday they offer free corkage. The food is well done and fairly priced - especially if you get the prix fixe menu. A proper local gem - very pleased to have found it.
Five stars for this very lovely place but a little bit of room for improvement: there is something strange about the tables layout, in that you end up looking at other diners and it feels a bit strange, especially from the banquet seats. The music could be a little louder when there are just a few diners so you don't hear each other's conversations. Staff is great. Food is tasty. The mains are very generous in size. Great wine list. My suggestion is to get a new oysters supplier. Oysters weren't very tasty or meaty. Never had an oyster before that leaks water when you lift it. Try Jarvis fishmongers for fantastic oysters nearby.
This is a lovely little French restaurant, with pretty French music! The French bread and caper butter was very delicious had to order more bread to finish off the yummy butter! My partner ordered the scallops and I got the pea soup - both very tasty! The decor is lovely, wooden floors and velvet blue sofas. The veal and plaice was quite good and the dauphinoise was excellent! Would definitely recommend and want to try the lobster ravioli next time!
Lovely French restaurant at the heart of St Margaret’s! We felt a little lonely upon arrival at 6 pm on a Saturday night, but it seems the place started buzzing around 8 pm. I wish more people knew, how good this cosy restaurant is, the owner should really advertise and promote more! The quality of food served and the amount of attention we’ve got were above expectations. I had scallops for starters and stolen a bite of soufflé from my son’s plate. Both dishes were very aesthetically pleasing and unbelievably tasty. The mains were on par, to our satisfaction. There are few things that might be worth fixing : it’s freezing in powder room and more frequent cleaning might be a good idea, plus, the coffee machine was broken on the day. Otherwise, it was great dining, thank you!
We are lucky to live so close to such a brilliant restaurant. Had a wonderful meal there again last night 31 May. Great service by Savio front of house, everything was served beautifully & at a perfect pace. Delicious food & a wonderful menu. Try it. Local businesses need our support.
I celebrated my birthday with my husband at Le Salon Privé. The food was amazing so was the quiet and cozy atmosphere. Excellent value for money!
We had our wedding celebration at Le Salon Prive back in October. Absolutely fantastic dishes, service and atmosphere ! Chef Jan Luca is amazing chef. We definitely will recommend this place for family celebrations. Our guests enjoyed food very much.Children dishes were a big success .Even fussy eaters children haven’t left anything on the plate.
First time visit with friends who live nearby and are regulars. If we’d been on a budget the prix fixe would have been very good value. As it happened we all went a la carte because there’s a lot of temptation! Another reviewer mentioned the bread with caper butter - me too! Double cooked soufflé and fennel tart tatin were delicious. As was my whole south coast lemon sole with frites. It’s BYO so no cost for wines (though ours are non-alcoholic so price not a big problem). A Wednesday evening in January so only eight people dining. I don’t mind that at all - you can have an audible conversation. Service was good and food came promptly. Would go again.
A little magic in Twickenham – This restaurant is a little gem. High quality French style food at affordable prices. Everything is made and cooked in house except the lovely warm bread from a local bakery. We went on a Groupon Voucher but will return. It has fixed priced 3 course lunch menus Tues-Sat for £20 and dinner menus at £25 from Tues-Thurs. Two courses also available slightly cheaper. There are also imaginative vegetarian menu options. The a la carte menu has wonderful offers like you would find at top French bistros in Paris. It is but a bit pricier but if you are looking for first class cordon bleu cooking at half top restaurant prices, this is your place. It has a wine list to die for. If you want the patron to suggest wines for courses, he will do so. The patron is Gianluca di Monaco who was sous chef for Pierre Koffmann and Heinz Beck and has been head chef for the King of Saudi Arabia. After 25 years in the kitchen, he has stepped out to front of house passing the baton to his former sous chef and 28-year-old understudy, Andrea Sonzobni, who is also Italian. It is simply wonderful French food in a cosy, warm setting. The windows have stunning stain glass to compliment the interior of wooden floors and hand carved panels. French paintings adorn the walls. You can book a private room off the main restaurant for up to 6 people in the main restaurant or if you want to hold a party there are two rooms upstairs seating 22 and 14 people respectively, perfect for a party. It has an inviting ambience with a lively buzz and local feel on the Friday night we went. The father and son next to us had come from Shropshire and Staffordshire to watch rugby and go to this restaurant whenever in town. They ordered the Chateaubriand for two which looked enormous and perfectly cooked. We ordered off the fixed price menu homemade pheasant terrine, with remoulade and pistachio. Full of flavour and perfect texture. The chef explained how time consuming it was to make from fresh pheasant. My only quibble was that you had to order bread separately at £3. My wife had the pan-fried seabass, salsify and crayfish ragout which was perfectly cooked, succulent with a crispy skin. I had pork cheek, pomme puree and lentil and pancetta sauce. Wow, was it tasty. All portions were generous as shown. Side orders are charged at £3.75 extra each with perfectly cooked spinach, sprouting broccoli and the best Gratin dauphinoise at £4.75 either of us had ever tasted to accompany. The desserts are equally flavourful: banana sorbet with dark chocolate buttons and warm prune tart and calvados ice cream ordered by us. A lovely finish to a fantastic meal. It has been there for five years, but get in before you cannot get in. A real find.
Chic French restaurant in St Margaret's. French Classics done well and with a twist. Good for special occasions.
I would thoroughly recommend- the chef is world class and I really couldn't fault the evening. Also for the standard of food received I believe it was incredible value for money.
We love le Salon Privé. Gianluca is a wonderful chef and an even better human being. He helped us put on a brilliant event for our wedding just last week. Food was delicious, the ambiance rocking, and the cocktails on point.
Our first visit and we thought the food was excellent. The cheese soufflé starter was amazing. We both had fish, which was perfectly done with nice vegetables to accompany. The dauphinoise potatoes side dish was something I'd be happy to eat as a main, it was unbelievably good. I thought the service was fine and one of the waiting staff was really friendly and genuinely knew her food. We'd definitely go back.
Perfect venue for a small group birthday celebration in their private dining space.
A lovely meal with my boyfriend for his birthday. I had the lamp rump for main it was 10/10 , we had a starters and shared a pudding and all the food was amazing ! The ambience was intimate and calm and perfect for an evening dinner. The staff were kind and welcoming.
Went just before covid and finally made it back again tonight. What a wonderful fine dining experience. We did the Tuesday Chateaubriand deal and it was stunning, tasty, and generously portioned. My wife had the chocolate fondant for pudding and said it was the best she had ever had. Service friendly and perfectly timed. We had house red and it was smooth and hit the spot. We like a special meal with linen and excellent friendly service and great food and we enjoyed that here. Thank you Gianluca and your colleagues. see you very soon - with our friends. Kind regards David and Claire McGeachie.
We hired the beautiful downstairs restaurant for a celebratory family lunch after a wedding. The restaurant manager and chef were extremely helpful prior to the function, advising on the menu, table layout and timings. On the day the canapes and three course meal were delicious, the staff very attentive and the room looked beautiful.
Never disappoints. Consistently good French/European food with a friendly service and good recommendations for wine. Great to have something special locally.
We went to Le Salon Prive for my sister’s hen party and had a gorgeous meal in our own private dining room. The atmosphere was fantastic and the service was great. All our dietary requirements were met too. Would HIGHLY recommend! Thank you so much for a great evening!
Great food here.. lovely little French restaurant just outside the hustle and bustle of the centre of twickenham. We had great food here and could not fault that. Good menu selection and very well cooked food. I’m not from the area but found this place a gem really.. the chef does bring all the elements of the ingredients together and executes his food very well. Waiter was fairly slow and didn’t pay To much attention to the tables and didn’t involve himself too much in any kind of way.. seemed to formal for the occasion if I’m honest and did too the champagne up twice but then kind of left us to it.. didn’t ask how the food was or if there was any thing else we wanted or required. Slightly let down in that area. But above all it’s a lovely place.. Atmosphere I can only rate as 2 as only 5 tables occupied and not a lot of vibe..
We got our New Year's eve takeaway dinner, the fillet was so nice, soft like butter it would melt in your mouth and perfectly cooked. I didn't love the foigras unfortunately was too tasteless for me. I would love to go back after the lockdown and enjoy the service too, I think it will allow me to have a better picture of this Restaurant.
A homely French brasserie dishing up delicious French classics. Would highly recommend a visit.
Please clean the place. I really enjoyed this place as I felt it was out of the way enough to make you feel like you were actually in some remote french town having a meal at your local chop house. The food was fantastic and amazingly prepared by a well known chef. My only gripe was that the place didn't feel all too clean. The wine glasses we received had dust on them and I noticed old cobwebs around the light fixtures near the windows. Would have been 5 stars if not for that.
This is a delightful little place. We went here for the Valentine's Day menu, and usually they're terrible - overpriced and limited. I was happily surprised as all the food was delicious. The tempura oysters to start with were light and fresh, the lobster on ratte potato was AMAZING, the scallops were fine (I'm not generally a fan, they just taste like lumps of fat), and the beef and ox cheek main course was superb - cooked wonderfully. They catered for my stupid chocolate allergy by removing it from the dessert with no hassle. I would have liked to have been asked how I found the food at least once during the meal, though, and they could have been a bit more proactive refilling my water, but I'll definitely be back.
So I'll be honest, we weren't the usual diners here. We were part of a large group who had hired a private room with 2/3 course dinner and a private wine tasting event. The room is tastefully decorated, very comfortable and ideal for our needs. The staff were also very attentive. However, something was a little off with the food. As I looked around the room after the starter 25% had hardly touched their food. Personally, I had mussels, which were very nice. The main course however, was not so good. My wife and I were at a loss as to how you could even make steak taste so bad! It wasn't chewy or stringy, it just tasted really bad! I've given 4 stars because, other than the food, everything was perfect and we had a very enjoyable evening. I'll go back one day and check if the steak issue was a one-off or something more endemic.
Cozy place. Nice ambiance. Excellent delicious food and wine. Horrible service however. Ignored the whole time. Two teenagers and one older man running around but never stopping at tables. The kids were untrained. The older man went through the motions, even with fake apologies. No effort to service the tables. No check backs. No offers of more wine, more bread, or desserts. A shame poor service ruins an otherwise upscale restaurant. Even after I complained we were ignored the whole time, they still added service charge at the end. This was our first time there. And a special occasion too. Unfortunate to have a bad experience that'll tarnish any second thought of this place again.
A splendid, quaint French style bistro, tucked away in depths of St Margaret's and well worth seeking out. The food was fabulous, but the entire experience was marred somewhat, by the lackluster waiter service. We were served initially by a waiter who seemed like he had been in the industry far too long and had lost his mojo years ago. The young lady who filled this dreary space, soon perked the service back up. Unfortunately, it was all too late and had already, left a taste of disappoint. This restaurant is not exactly cheap or provides value for money, and they really need to up there game to tempt customers back during these difficult times.
It's a comfortable, well laid out French restaurant. The food is ok. After a disappointing scallop starter, I had a very good fresh fish with a nice house wine. The place had absolutely no life in the atmosphere it didn't help that when we arrived the empty room smelt of cleaning products not food. The service was attentive, and the bill was reasonable.
5th but the last time! We really looked forward to our meal out without the kids at a restaurant which we would have always recommended to friends but unfortunately NOT ANYMORE! First impressions Upon being seated after getting my wife her drink I had to wait an age to be asked for my own order even though there was only 3 tables of customers. When asked for our food order we said that we weren't having starters & just mains to which we were told that it would be a long wait going straight to mains. A very strange answer! Food Bread & Butter - This used to be lovely but now to go with the lovely bread instead of the previous home made pepper Butter they are trying to pass off FAKE SPREADABLE BUTTER! This is obvious because butter when cool is firm & this alternative was soft when cold & a different consistency & of course taste from real butter! Chateaubriand - We asked for medium rare, it was rare (see picture). We didn't send it back as you cant cook this meal more when it's already sliced. Meat was good quality still thankfully. Spinach (pictured)- A watery mess that wasn't done right to remove the moisture but not the butter! Bone Marrow Sauce - A very good sauce. Mustard, Mustard or Mustard (pictured) This was the biggest let down from both waiter & Chef! I asked for Djon, the waiter returned from the kitchen with Wholegrain. I told the waiter that it was wholegrain & that I asked for Djon, he went back to the kitchen & returned from the kitchen with cheap rip off English mustard. I challenged the waiter about this & his words were "the chef said that it's the same as Djon". Obviously I didn't believe this & he looked like he thought the same but after laughing & saying that he should get the chef out to tell us that (to which he ignored), we just asked for the bill. Wine A good Bordeaux. A shame of an experience which we really wanted to be like the previous visits but clearly something bad had occurred
Underwhelming is the word. As a French living in the area, I was quite hype for this venue, I went for my birthday. The cooking seems to be very much targeting English tastebuds and did not carry me to France whatsoever, and nothing was impressive either. For the same price tag you can simply find better in the area. They did arrange to do some kid meal for my son which enjoyed it and that’s appreciated. But for me and my wife it was really a disappointment. With low expectations it could still set for a nice, albeit overpriced, place to eat. Was really such a disappointing birthday meal. Might give it a second chance in the future.
Not as great experience and serving staff were bizarre!! Menu was placed in front and asked withing 5 minutes if we were ready order. No drinks first. Asked for more time. Souffle was quite good but fish was over cooked and as others mentioned who serves a meatball on a slate. One of them hit the floor and wasn't picked up. Wine is very overpriced and wine list is frankly very poor. The final straw was when my wife and friend were in the ladies toilet the male chef came in to use the toilet. We complained to the manager and he said that it wasn't the usual chef as it was a rugby day! We said that the clue might have been LADIES on the door!! No real apology and you wonder what's happening in the kitchen - We won't be going again.
I booked this restaurant for Christmas day. We booked it in November for our family and my in laws (both in their 80s). We were told we had a table confirmed for the 5 of us and they would do their seating plan nearer to the day. I never thought anything of it, especially when we had the booking confirmed and was told to book our food choices two weeks ahead which of course we did promptly. When we arrived, my in laws were sat at a lone table in a dark room, near the coats away from the main dining room. I assumed there had been some confusion so I spoke to the waiter. He informed me that we did not have a table in the restaurant so had put us in this room. As the room was dark, depressing and dirty with old grim grey curtains with an oversized, large dark wood table with old chairs, it was not a room suitable to hold a family meal or any kind of meal especially on Christmas Day. As they had tables free in the restaurant we asked for 1 of them to be told NO, my mother in law asked for a discount to be told NO. We asked if we could wait and delay our meal until a table comes free, we were told NO. We left unfortunately, my in laws stayed as they are old and were too tired to look for another restaurant that might have a table for lunch on Christmas Day. This restaurant ruined our Christmas Day and should never have accepted the booking if they knew they didn’t have a table in the actual restaurant. Do not book and assume you will be eating there. They are unfriendly, rude and unwilling to compromise or apologise. We live locally, as do our in Laws, and we would advise to not go near this restaurant at any cost.
Server on receipt: Renaldo We went for dinner for my dads birthday. Service was average at best (two lovely waitresses and one incompetent manager), no atmosphere on a Saturday night (albeit in January) and an appalling manager who did not handle a complaint well which caused it to escalate hugely. Starters were nice enough, fish mains over cooked and desert almost straight from the freezer and not hot. When we complained, there was no empathy and he instead decided he would repeat our order back to us and argue the wrong point, rather than taking in our feedback. Shame, birthday evening ruined and tainted our previously positive experiences at this restaurant and we won’t be returning.
We were captivated by the decoration and atmosphere, and this restaurant had been on our minds for a long time. We ordered 2 Chateaubriand for four people. I don’t even want to comment on whether the food met our expectations because the worst thing imaginable happened. While placing the plates on the table, the waiter dropped a couple of meat onto the table and then picked it up with his bare hands and put it back on the serving plate. Just in front of us! This lack of care clearly extends to the kitchen as well. It was a terrible experience. We paid huge amount of money!
