Great modern Indian restaurant in the heart of Soho. The decor is classy, service is great, food is fantastic (everything was very tasty, special mention to the starters - crab cakes and samosas - only the lamb shank was a bit of a letdown). It’s a bit on the pricey side so be warned. We booked the private room for 8 and it was a quiet and colourful room. I’ve been to many good Indians and this one ranks amongst the best. Forget Dishoom which has turned very bad these days, try the Tamarind Kitchen instead, I highly recommend it!
Omg!!! I just found an amazing Indian food with amazing cocktail restaurant! We were hungry and I am definitely gonna say that this have been by far my amazing experience dinning in london🫶🏻 …. Very decent and delicious food, lovely atmosphere and great service! The chicken korma worth getting ur hand on!
My wife and I had an amazing dining experience here. Our reservation was for 22:15 because we were coming right after a show and the kitchen closes at 22:30. We knew it was a bit of a stretch but the service was sooo amazing nonetheless. They accommodated everything and more for us. I did not get the names of the members who accommodated us but it was a young lady and gentleman and they were awesome. The food is another thing. A1! I recommend the lamb shank FOR SURE! I will most certainly be back and will be happy to patronize this wonderful restaurant again. Thanks Tamarind Kitchen for making our late anniversary dinner super nice!
I had a great dining experience at this restaurant. The food was incredibly tasty—I ordered a dish that gave me a bit of everything from an Indian curry selection, and it did not disappoint. Each item was rich in flavor and well-prepared, offering a great introduction to Indian cuisine. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, perfect for a relaxed meal. However, the lighting was on the dim side; a bit more brightness would really enhance the ambiance. Overall, it’s a wonderful spot for delicious Indian food and a laid-back vibe. I’ll definitely be back!
Best Christmas Day lunch! this I would say is the best Indian restaurant in london. Wiped my plate clean.
Arrived earlier than our booking and they were very hospitable to offer us a table earlier. Lamb chop quality was great and butter chicken was delicious.
I was dining alone and opted for the pre-theatre menu at £29 plus £5 extra for dessert. The service was flawless from start to finish and was paced really well so I never felt rushed. The food was fantastic. It began with well presented starter which was full of colour, flavour and texture. The main course was lovely with a selection of four tasty dishes accompanied by rice and naan bread. I tried the Kala Jamun dessert which was sweet and sticky and perfectly complemented with ice cream. The pre-theatre menu is fantastic value and I look forward to returning soon.
We had such a great dinner here! It’s a lot like its sister restaurant Tamarind, but where Tamarind is more fine dining, this place has a more laid-back vibe and much better prices. The atmosphere was super cozy and relaxed, and the staff were really friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic, everything was full of flavor and looked amazing without feeling too fancy. To me, the Ras Malai dessert was the star of the show, it washed down everything we ate ahahahaha. Overall, it’s the perfect spot for a chill evening with great food, and we’ll definitely be back!
Enjoyed the weekend lunch set menu. They were accommodating in transforming the vegetarian menu to a vegan one Great service and good portion of food.
I was dining by myself. The specials were geared more towards parties of 2 or more!! The server Hebu, was magnificent and the manager made an exception based on my needs! Food..WOW!! That’s all I could say, as I tried each dish, talk about perfect. Thank you for the hospitality, delicious food and impeccable service!
Celebrating a 50th, catching up with friends. Restaurant staff are welcoming ensuring your plate is full and you are content. Lamb king prawn chicken seasoning Mother and Mother in Law approved. Meal was satisfying and kind and n our belly. Chef was kind enough to meet us and our guests and parents.
First time having this cuisine it was top notch, from when you enter and leave the service is 10/10 and the food is equal to this, (my favourite was the pistachio cheesecake for desert) the interior and how the restaurant looks is beautiful! definitely recommend and thanks to the staff it was a great time for me and my family.
Absolutely amazing service and staff. Vishal who served us was such a great host and proactively attending all the tables and guests. He recommended us the drinks - Lychee Blush and Passion Chilli Sour which were amazing. Although Lychee Blush has to be my favorite cocktail now. The food is ridiculously amazing and the best Indian food I have had so far in London. The Paneer Tikka, Raj Kachori and crispy broccoli , I dont even have words to explain how good the food tasted. The Paneer was so tender and full of flavors. Raj Kachori, was a flavor-bust in every bite. And the naan, so fluffy and crispy, not at all chewy. Daal Makhani was exactly how we get in delhi. And to top it up the Mango Kulfi and Kala Jamun. I was in food coma. Well people might find it pricy, but I have to admit the prices are worth every bite you take. I am definitely going back and you must too.
I am Indian and me and my family ate at Tamarind last night for my mum’s 70th bday and would rate it 10/10. The service was excellent - thanks to Mahanoor who was incredibly attentive, friendly and helpful; she made our experience extra special. The restaurant is not too loud, it is warm and welcoming with low lighting and nice decor, booth tables, very comfortable. The food was delicious and would highly recommend the Avocado belphuri, Kerela prawn curry , Tandoori lamb seekh kebab, Dungar chicken chops, Old delhi Butter chicken curry, Awadhi chicken biryani (my favourite) that was plenty of food to share between 5 people with Roti & chutneys. Drinks were great too.
Lovely Indian restaurant the staff were very welcoming and friendly. This was the first time I ever enjoyed India food. Each dish was amazing 👏🏽. It is expensive and the portion sizes are small, but if you go out with a group and share it, it's worth it.
Wow, my new favorite Indian in London! So glad we tried this. It’s basically the same dishes as the Michelin star tamarind in Mayfair. The must order the lobster Malabar, pwn, curry, lamb chops, butter, chicken, mint chutney prawns.
Great food and service, we enjoyed the food very much. Good quality meat, lamb chops and prawns were delicious as was the black pepper chicken tikka. Very good wine. On the pricey side but that was because we had two bottles of wine.
4.1 (current average on google) is a hilariously low rating for this restaurant. For my palate almost every dish had perfect flavor, spice, etc and also great presentation. Great service. And a beautiful restaurant.
Outstanding little Indian with top quality Indian food, a beautiful and helpful hostess and lovely touches throughout. The taster menu at £50 is an absolute steal and the wine is very reasonably priced. Bring a date, bring your business partner, bring someone you want to impress. The service was faultless.
Delicious Indian restaurant! We came for my birthday. The menu had variety without being overwhelming and the selections were all DELICIOUS! We got the vegetarian appetizer — raj kachori. It was unlike anything we’d ever had. Very unique and beautifully presented. We also had the butter chicken (I wish I could have licked my plate), and the baingan bharta (aubergine side) and naan. All were so flavorful. We loved the drink options! - there’s a mocktail version of almost every cocktail. I got the mocktail version of the Khus Cooler. Delicious! Highly recommend this place.
We had a great dinner, took the set menu which included 4 courses. All dishes were amazing, good cocktails and excellent service. Nice atmosphere. We really enjoyed the whole experience.
I went there for my surprise birthday dinner. I really enjoyed the food and the ambience. Every single thing we had there was amazing had an authentic taste. Thanks to Tamarind Kitchen’s team for delightful food and service.
I'm not usually impressed with the food at Indian restaurants in London simply because usually they try and cater to the local taste buds which in fairness is probably the right thing to do, however leaves us looking for better options that challenge our taste (spice) buds. Having said that I was blown away by the food here! Bloody brilliant it was! Tasty, spicy (but not crazily so), elegantly presented and really bloody good! We ordered the crab cakes, the sheekh kabab, the lamb shank and the bhuna ghosht with garlic naan.. the crab cakes were delectable, with that tamarind chutney really elevating the dish. The sheekh kabab... Succulent, moist and oh so tasty, although I'd have loved some more green chutney. The lamb shank had the meat falling off the bone and the curry was oh so creamy but for me.. the bhuna ghosht.. OH MY GOD!!!! Slow cooked mutton that squirmed to the touch, the masala that had lived and grown with the mutton, one flavouring the other.. I went to dinner with the wife, but I think we both cheated on each other with that bhuna ghosht! Dessert wasn't bad, but really after that meal we couldn't really do justice to it. Definitely recommend it to all!!
Wow, I had no idea this place existed. I came across it by chance, read the reviews and one said "Better than Dishoom." Well, I love Dishoom so immediately booked into Tamarind Soho, which still maintains its Michelin star. We had the set lunch menu for £50 plus a bottle of still water, one cocktail and one beer. Total for two including service £142. Dishes were: - Raj Kachori: an explosion of flavours. Yoghurt taste, a hint of spice and the crunchy topping made it the best dish of all for texture and sensation. Incredible. - Smoked Spicy Chicken Tikka and Tandoori Lamb Seekh Kebab wit pickled papaya & smoked pepper chutney: both meats melted in the mouth. The chicken soaked up the flavour of its marinade and just pipped the lamb to the taste post. - Old Delhi Butter Chicken with a rich caramelised tomato sauce and dried fenugreek: sublime texture, rich flavour and we could not stop eating the sauce. Had to order more naan! - Lasooni Palak - garlic tempered spinach: I have never had this before and could not stop eating it. I'm not sure how they served it but it was way better than sag paneer which was previously my favourite Indian spinach dish. - Koala Jamun - Indian sweet. Normally I find Indian sweets too...sweet. Man, they love their sugar on that continent! But this one had a hint of sweet that rounded off the other dishes brilliant. It got finished like everything else. Decor was fantastic. Quiet atmosphere. Precise and non-intrusive service. I can't recommend this restaurant enough and will return.
Such a great tasty foods! Absolutely loved the whole experience and we will definitely go back again. Foods were full of authentic flavours, the service was ace. We went on Friday evening where the place was full but staffs were talking care of every single tables! Oh! Not to mention, delicious cocktails too.
We have previously dined at Tamarind on Queen St which was amazing, and this one didn't disappoint either. Again the food was outstanding, beautifully presented and so tasty. The service was on point, very friendly and attentive. We look forward to visiting again.
We visited on the 18th Oct. Sat down stairs, which turned out to be the better option as upsatirs was quite noisy in compariosn. My wife and I are both pescatarians, going on the very friendly staff recommendations, we opted for fish cakes, spinach, kerala prawn curry and a fish tikka as a main. It was the most delicious meal we have ever tasted. The different flavours coming through each portion was incredible. 100% recommend this resturant and look forward to our next visit.
Exceptional Food and Ambiance The food was easily the highlight. Every dish we ordered was simply delicious. The Chandni Paneer Tikka was an absolute standout; the paneer was incredibly fresh and literally melted in my mouth. It was one of the best paneer dishes I’ve ever had. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Bhindi, which was perfectly spiced, and my friend raved about the Kerala Prawn Curry, calling it absolutely gorgeous. The staff also brought out a lovely, complimentary celebration sorbet at the end, which was such a sweet and thoughtful touch. My only minor note is that the portion sizes were quite small for the price point, but the quality and flavor were so exceptional. The overall experience was amazing, and I highly recommend it
The best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to! Absolutely outstanding. Every dish was full of depth, flavour and perfectly balanced spices. The slow-cooked lamb was the best I have ever eaten incredibly tender, rich and bursting with flavour. The cheese naan was also amazing, perfectly soft. The service was warm, fast and genuinely attentive, and the atmosphere felt authentic without being over the top.
Ok ! This was my 4th time coming to this amazing restaurant and believe me when i say they will make ur day! From food to service to atmosphere to everything you notice is recommendable. I mean it! It’s my favourite dine in space. I feel that u are not ignored when you ask to change certain things, your views are addressed, thus great service!
Went in for a very late dinner and caught them just before kitchen closed. We were lucky! We had a mix of a coupe small plates, grill plates and a veggie solution. It was all very good and tasty. It was pricy given we didn't have a single main though.
We dined at tamarind kitchen for a date night. We were given a table and requested the hostess for a different one which she kindly accommodated. The drinks cocktails alcoholic and non-alcoholic was fantastic. The papdi chaat was tangy and delicious. The main course portions were big and filling. The Briyani was flavourful. The butter chicken was slight thinner which is unusual to texture of the dish but tasty. Overall a good dining experience with good service and ambience.
Food is yummy however it is nothing extraordinary for the price you pay. The prices are unreasonable even when you compare to other high end restaurants and Michelin star restaurants. The service is outstanding though, the staff is the most polite, courteous and respectful people I have seen and I have been to over 50 high end and Michelin restaurants in London. The staff is the best. The food can improve and the prices can come down slightly or offer more quantity.
Absolutely loved our first visit to Tamarind Soho! We had an all-veg lunch and everything was spot on—especially the dal makhani, raj kachori, and ragda puri chaat. The Ras Malai was soft, perfectly sweet, and tasted just like home. Honestly, it didn’t even feel like we were in London—such authentic Indian flavours and warm service. Can’t wait to return!
I enjoyed a delightful dining experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious, and drinks were refreshing. However, given the extensive staff, I expected more attentive service. Despite this, I recommend it for its culinary excellence. While the price may be steep for regular visits, it's definitely worth a one-time try.
The food taste was amazing but the quantity is really less as compared to the price paid. The service was also quick enough but not upto the mark as expected a better service from such a high rated restaurant. I would like to appreciate that they brought a sorbet along with candle on the top as it was my brother’s birthday.
Authentic and delicious Indian food in SoHo. Made a reservation as it’s a popular spot. Portions good for 2. Medium spicy as we requested. Friendly staff.
This is a good Indian restaurant, but nothing special in London. We came here for the pre-set menu. The appetizer was the star of the show with a perfectly cooked tandoori lamb and beef. The main was a tasting menu with their most popular curries. One chicken, one prawn, one lentil, and one potato based. The sizes were too small and the flavors were ok. The price was ok but for the amount of food a bit over. I would come back to try the alacarte.
Pretty good Indian food, upscale yet casual. The fish was really good and the lotus root kebabs were very interesting. The biryani was just OK. We didn't try the tasting menu, but it would've probably been a better bang for buck.
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Tamarind Kitchen during a stroll to China Town, and it turned out to be a delightful discovery. This Indian restaurant exudes class and beauty; every aspect, from the elegant design to the thoughtful menu and impeccable service, was truly top-notch. Our culinary adventure included the Raj Kachori, a highly recommended choice that dazzled with its diverse flavors and delightful toppings. The Grilled Seabass impressed with a perfectly portioned, expertly cooked dish that avoided over-seasoning. The Dunbar Chicken Chops showcased flawlessly seasoned, fall-off-the-bone meat. The Kerala Prawn Curry brought a delightful hint of spice, accompanied by an incredible sauce. The Lassooi Palak, Tandoori Roti, and steamed rice served as ideal accompaniments, perfectly portioned for a satisfying meal for two. They also have amazing cocktails, and of course assorted teas. However, the star of the evening was undoubtedly the Turmeric Crème Brûlée – an absolute must-try and easily my top crème brûlée experience to date. Tamarind Kitchen left us thoroughly impressed, and without a doubt, we plan to return for another exceptional dining experience.
Good food but quite expensive. Small portion sizes. This is a fancy meal for sure. Flavor profiles were great. We also appreciated how spicy everything was, no holding back there!! Fast service as well, very attentive.
Staff were very friendly, nice ambient atmosphere , Food was nice. Fish curry was a little bland.. but I guess it depends on the style . Chicken Dum Briyani was awesome, which wasn’t on their typical menu but they offered dishes which were not on the menu which was a plus... Brought my little one year old and they provided a baby seat and a space to put the Pram. Upstairs also had a baby changing place. All in all a good place to try.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Tamarind on Oxford Street. The starters set the tone beautifully — the Seekh Kebab was juicy, tender, and full of flavour, the Papdi Chaat was refreshing, and the Chandani Paneer Tikka was incredibly soft and melted in the mouth. Absolutely delicious! For the main course, we chose their set menu served in elegant silver crescent bowls with both veg and non-veg options. The Kerala Prawn Curry was the highlight — creamy, aromatic, and extremely delicious. The Old Delhi Butter Chicken was also excellent, with a smooth gravy and perfectly cooked meat. Desserts were okay, not the standout, but the overall meal was fantastic. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but honestly, the quality and flavours make it worth it. If you visit, you must try the Kerala Prawn Curry — it’s unforgettable. A great experience and definitely worth a visit!
Food was ok. Not great. Too dark to make out the dishes we had to keep peering into the pits to make out our curries. Naans were good. But the rest was average. Expected better .
It feels like things have slipped a bit since my last visit, particularly with the smaller portions and the curries came out mostly lukewarm. I’ve now been twice and most recently came with a group of five. We shared the venison samosa (a modern twist that felt a bit too refined for this type of place), papdi chaat (solid), dunga chicken chops (tender and flavourful), lamb chops (a bit tough with unrendered fat), old Delhi butter chicken (not as good as I remembered), Kerala prawn curry (the sauce lacked depth), Calcutta bhuna gosht (nice kick), Hyderabadi lamb shank (tender but the sauce was too sweet), chandani paneer tikka (flavour was off) and a selection of naans and rice. Service was fine, though not particularly warm.
Average, some food good. Butter chicken really disappointed. Very expensive for lack of good food
Some passion fruit cocktail was absolute tasteless and not worth it. Lasuni palak was okay but daal was watery. Lamb was great so was naan. But not worth the prices. May not visit again. I compared this to Bangalore Express Cafe near monument station and tamarind kitchen is 👎. Veg is limited.
Tasty but absolute rip off. 90 quid for 4 small curry pots, rice and naan bread! Didn’t even drink alcohol. Absolutely ripped off. Perhaps this place is too posh for the likes of me. I’m sure if you’re loaded you can eat here and have a great time.
Recently dined at TK, Wardour St., London W1 Deco & ambiance was modern & nice but a little dark. But ‘butter chicken’ dish I had was not good - old or reheated chicken! Also service was just OK. Room for improvement food & service wise but otherwise, nice convenient place 2/5. Tommy!
I recently visited Tamarind Kitchen in Soho, expecting a refined dining experience. One of the dishes was enjoyable, but the chicken dish (I can’t recall the exact name) was served undercooked, which was extremely off-putting and completely unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one of this supposed quality. I immediately showed it to the waiter, who did apologise and replaced the dish, but their initial reaction lacked any real urgency or seriousness. Even more disappointing was that I was still charged the full bill, with no gesture offered for the mistake. Frankly, this was an unhealthy situation and one I didn’t expect from a restaurant that presents itself as fine dining. This experience fell short on both fronts. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others either. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously to prevent future occurrences.
