The duck here is top tier. Perfect portion if you want to share between two and order a couple of other bits. Prices reflect the quality of the food so don’t come here if you’re on a budget. The sweet and sour chicken was so yummy too not too sour or too sweet just the right balance. The spicy margarita was a bit on the spicy side for our taste but still good. Will be coming again.
Really amazing place and the food was SO delicious! We got an amazing table and we were 6 people. We got the one on the second floor in the corner with the small turning table inside. The waiters were super nice and friendly. We accidentally spilled a glass of cava and they gave us a new filled one, which was very kind of them. The duck is just spectacular, simply amazing. The atmosphere was really nice just a little bit too loud considering the level of the restaurant and the prices. Overall, really recommend.
I really enjoyed the experience. The place is so well organized that it can easily rely on young, non-professional waiters. The food is excellent and truly speaks for itself, and the atmosphere is very warm, especially for a group dinner. We had the Peking duck, served with thin pancakes to roll everything up. A real delight, and rarely this good when ordered à la carte outside of China.
Third visit here (5th for my partner!) and we have to say, every single visit has been better than the last. The food is faultless, I’m pescatarian and the abundance of fish, seafood and veggie plates are amazing. The dishes are so tasty with the perfect level of spice and flavour. We were looked after by the most friendly, welcoming and attentive hostess called Hannah- she made the evening all the more magical for us. Can’t wait for to be back for visit number 4!
My girlfriend and I visited The Duck and Rice ahead of my birthday and it honestly couldn’t have been better. The food was absolutely delicious, we shared sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein, bao buns and venison pastries, and every single dish was so tasty. You could really tell the quality of the ingredients and the care that went into the cooking. A big shoutout has to go to our server, Hannah. She was so friendly, attentive without ever being overbearing, and genuinely made the whole evening feel special. It’s rare to come across service that feels that personal, and it honestly made all the difference. I have a peanut allergy, so I have to be careful eating out particularly with Chinese food, but Hannah handled it brilliantly. She was knowledgeable, reassuring, and made me feel completely at ease, which meant I could just relax and enjoy the meal. The place itself is lovely and inviting, and seems like a great place for a casual lunch or a more formal dinner. The combination of amazing food, a lovely atmosphere, and such thoughtful service made this the perfect place to celebrate. We left already talking about what we’ll order next time.
Great food, service, and atmosphere. vegan option were delicious and staff were well versed on recommendation across the whole menu. Hanna and the whole team were friendly approachable and made for a great night out.
Came here for dinner before a West End show. We were a bit early for our reservation, so grabbed a few drinks at the bar before our table was ready. For 3 people we ordered prawn chips , shumai, and XLB to start; then assam chilli king prawn (it is extremely spicy- fair warning!), crispy aromatic duck (quarter), pak choi with garlic, and Singapore fried noodle as mains. Food arrived fairly quickly and everything was fantastic. They swapped our initial appetizer plates for clean plates when the mains came out. They present the crispy duck to you whole, then return with it shredded (with the bone on the plate) so you dive right into it more easily. If I was local I'd probably make it a habit to do pre-show dinner here regularly. Everything was great!
I went about lunch time on the 23rd of Dec. They were busy but i managed to get a table. I wasnt that hungry and just wanted the house special duck, but the server downsold me to get the duck and rice, (£10 cheaper). She assured me it was the same duck as the house special, but a smaller portion, suitable for one. They duck and rice took a while to arrive, and it was served with cucumber. I beg to differ it was the same duck as the house special, the skin was leathery and the duck was tough and chewy. Highly disappointed in this place because i had high hopes. I may give it another chance and try some other dishes, but I dont hold much hope.
Our second time at The Duck and Rice and we couldn’t have eaten better. Service impeccable from the moment we arrived. Great food!!!!
After visiting for the first time last Friday 12th, I returned on Tuesday 16th and Thursday 18th this week. A wide selection of delicious Chinese food that is prepared to the highest standard and Hannah also provided outstanding service on each visit. She has taken tremendous care of me both supporting when ordering but also ensuring that I am comfortable throughout the reservation. She genuinely cares, only wants the best for every guest and has a wealth of knowledge to share. This starts with a warm greeting from the moment you walk in and the operation is flawless throughout from the whole team. An iconic venue with both a casual pub and modern dining area. The perfect way to start or end a shopping trip or West End theatre visit in London.
Absolutely coming here again! The staff were very attentive and tried to help me with my dietary restrictions (allergies). Sadly I couldn’t eat evrything they had due to this but I’m glad this got taken seriously ☺️ My friend and I ordered a few dishes and we left satisfieddd! The price was amazing too as Duck and Rice do different course sets! Though, do know that the main you pick does come with a bed of rice (I couldn’t finish it😔). It was all so tasty and filling! 🥘🥟🥬
We had a lovely meal for my brothers birthday. The duck and rice bowl is lovely, we shared 3 between 5 people with lots of sides. Th pilsner is cold and just £4.50 between 3-6pm. Tazin was really friendly and attentive, we sat on the table by the window. Perfect family dinner x
I visited on Sunday 24th August as an early celebration for my Wife's birthday. I went with my wife, my 8yo, my sister in law, her 3yo, and her husband. From start to finish, service and food was on point. My son's reaction to the food was "this is definitely a 5 star review daddy" The review isn't just because of this statement, but the food was absolutely spot on, delicious! The waitress was attentive, but not over the top of in your face. We were never left waiting to make any orders and the atmosphere of the place was buzzing. I highly recommend you visit if you are looking for a great meal in a beautiful surrounding. Thank you for making my wife's birthday meal great.
Very nice n tasty food Would like to go again for the craft beer n warm hospitality
⸻ I visited this restaurant for my sister’s birthday and had such a lovely experience! The food was delicious, the ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the staff were genuinely kind and helpful. Everything—from the service to the setting—made the evening really special. We truly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely come back again!
Overall a great experience, the restaurant was noticeably busy during peak time but honestly, I wouldn’t expect anything less being in the middle of Soho The highlight of the evening was Daisy (?) our waitress who was lovely and looked after us so well x
The crispy aromatic duck was one of the best! Pairs well with the crispy duck fried rice also, very unconventional fried rice and yet it’s nice. We also ordered the Cheung Fun with prawn and bean curd skin and the Venison puff… it’s highly recommended but I find that there is too much 5 spice power and pepper taste. I will definitely be back again for the Crispy aromatic duck.
Really impressed with Duck and Rice in Berwick Street! The roast duck with rice was tender and full of flavour, and the spring rolls were crispy and perfectly paired with the sauce. Nice relaxed vibe, friendly staff, and great presentation. A lovely spot for a quiet lunch or dinner in central London, definitely coming back!
Great food and great service! Portions are huge and very tasty. The rice and duck (🙃) was amazing.
The only dog friendly Chinese dim sum restaurant in London. Located in Soho, a short walk from Oxford Circus. Waiting staff at the reception was friendly and professional. Dogs are welcomed in the downstairs section. It's a pub set up theme, so tables are mainly with high booth/chairs, so may be not comfortable for shorter people. There are a few lower table and chairs, but it's first come first serve, not sure if you can request at booking. Dim sum are 3 pieces and around the £10 mark, they were fresh and juicy on our visit on Sunday. Cocktails are around £15 each, wouldn't recommend. Chinese tea are around £7, don't recommend either as it was quite weak in taste and not alot of flavour. Generally the waiters were friendly and professional. And we all enjoyed the experience and the food. The bill came to £144 for 3 people, we had 8 dim sum, 1 glass noodles in clay pot, 2 cocktails and a tea. For London and for the quality, it's acceptable and as expected. 1st time reporting on a cool toilet flushing system, it's a cool feature. Overall its a great experience to be able to bring your paw family member.
The restaurant is beautiful and we were seated immediately upon arrival, because we had a reservation. The restaurant gets super busy, so a reservation is recommended. We ordered the duck fried rice, roasted duck, and a chicken dish, all of which were absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and professional. The staff checked in with us regularly to ensure everything was going well.
Been coming here for many years and it never disappoints. Hosted some clients here today who had an amazing time. Big shout out to Hannah for looking after us 🙌 Halal options available
Amazing tasty food and customer service to match. The pub is decorated nicely and the atmosphere tops it off. Standout dishes were the chicken gyoza, crispy tofu, vegetable dumplings, prawn dumplings and the blackbean sea bass. Many more dishes to try out next time.
A lovely place for a meal. Yes it is expensive but worth every penny. Service was excellent and the food delicious. The restaurant was busy, making the atmosphere good. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Food was served at satisfying intervals. Portion sizes were good and what we did not eat, we brought home. The menu is small but well stocked. Definitely worth booking a table in advance. Will definitely come back. Thank you for a lovely meal.
Was really craving some proper duck and this hit the spot! The smell made us ravenous and the food did not disappoint when it came out, food and drink were served quickly. Can’t wait to come back and try other dishes from the menu as it all looks so good
Great! The place is well appointed, modern and servers are always ready to help. We went here for the Crispy duck and it was awsome. A quarter is enough for 2 persona. The prawn toast was excellent as well as the dumplings. Is likely to become a favorite for us when visiting London.
I booked last minute for a late lunch over the Christmas period and they managed to fit us in. The atmosphere was lovely, ordering food was made simple with a menu with tick boxes, so you could easily visualise how much you were ordering to avoid over ordering. Food was excellent, and arrived when it was ready, so food was also hot. All the dishes were excellent and I would return again.
We decided to try here for lunch as it was advertised as dog freindly. As it turned out, the food was also wonderful. We ordered spring rolls, wonton soup, roast duck with rice and prawn toast. Everything was lovely and the service was also great. Id definitely recommend.
We had the best Cantonese roast duck, the tofu and crab clay pot and the garlic pak choi with rice to share, and we loved all of it. Really appreciate being able to sit and eat in the bar area with our small dog too, this place is seriously cool. Tank-fresh beer gets a mention as well, another excellent touch. Loved it!
We had a truly wonderful experience at Duck & Rice. I must say the service was exceptional—something I haven’t experienced in quite some time. Arantxa was full of energy; from the moment she first approached us, we knew we were in for a lovely evening. Purnima, our main server, was incredibly attentive throughout—warm, friendly, and very genuine. Plamen also brought great energy and took the time to get to know us, treating us as guests rather than just another table. The food was excellent, we especially enjoyed the crispy duck and the dim sum. However, it was the outstanding service from the three of them that made the experience truly enjoyable and memorable. Thank you!
Average Cantonese food with high prices. The half BBQ duck was really salty and didn’t hold together in one piece (they were all little pieces of shrapnel under the skin). Prawn toast was nice but missing some mayonnaise for dipping and to make it less dry. Scallop and prawn shiu mai were plump and tasty. The sweet and sour chicken didn’t have a crispy batter and had an unusual taste. Nice atmosphere and interiors but they need to up the attentiveness of their service as we had to ask for their attention a few times. Note also that toilets are 3 flights of stairs down with no lifts. I think you would have been better off going to Chinatown 5 min down the road for a better feed.
Tasty food and generous portions. I was upset at first that the dim sum only comes as 3s and we were initially told that we couldn't have 4 for 4 people which was very frustrating. I did complain a bit to the staff (they were very respectful, I'm never gonna blame the the staff at all for things like this) and our final dim sum dish came with 4 which was a nice gesture. Hopefully they allow people to have more dim sum to share if there are more people, especially since we were happy to pay so everyone can try everything. Hats off to the servers in particular though they were very nice :)
Loved this place. Food was really nice. Everything comes out whenever it's ready which is fine. Table for 2 is a bit too small if you're going order dishes to share. At times it was a bit noisy in there but the staff were friendly and the food was great. Would go back.
The food quality was amazing and the place is very cosy with great service. However, I wasn't entirely satisfied with the price-to-quantity ratio, which is why I'm giving 4 stars rather than 5. I believe the prices were too high for the portion sizes offered.
Oh, a very pleasant, atmospheric place. The duck with rice was very tasty, and the duck roll was also quite good. But the pork and shrimp dim sum, personally for us, was simply inedible: we tried it and left the whole portion — no real flavor, very dense and tough, like something made of rubber.
Lunch on 9/8/25: We visited Duck and Rice for the second time on a Saturday lunchtime at 12:30, before heading to a show. The restaurant was empty apart from two tables when we arrived, but it filled up soon after. We ordered a selection of dim sum: • Fried cheung fun – nicely done • Taro pastry – very good • Har gau (prawn dumplings) – fresh and tasty • Venison puff – delicious • Scallop & prawn shumai – good • Prawn & Chinese chive dumpling (Sichuan style) – good • Vegetable dumpling (mushroom) – very nice Most dim sum dishes were around £10 for three pieces, which works fine for sharing between up to three people, but can get tricky for a table of four. Service was acceptable, though we did have to prompt staff a few times. Ambience was pleasant but nothing extraordinary. Overall: A good central London spot for quality dim sum, especially before a show. Dinner on 25/5/25: Duck & Rice is a stylish Chinese restaurant located at the edge of Soho, just off the main drag. Housed in a building with industrial metal stairs, the dining area is on the first floor, while the bar sits on the ground level. A large brewery tank near the entrance acts as a striking space divider and gives the place a unique character. Ambience was below average as very nice, busy and service was haphazard at the start with food order taken then returned for drinks. We tried the Peking Roast Duck, which came with a generous number of pancakes. However, there wasn’t quite enough cucumber and spring onion to match the amount of meat and pancakes provided. The hoisin sauce was decent but leaned on the sweeter side — a touch of chilli oil (ordered separately) helped balance it out. The highlight was the Cantonese-style Roast Duck — beautifully cooked, succulent, with crispy skin. It’s worth noting this dish takes around 30 minutes to prepare, so order early. It pairs well with a side of rice, which must be requested separately. The Assam prawns was excellent, quite spicy, more Malaysian style however more on the sweet side as well as sour. The kai lan (Chinese broccoli) was well-prepared, sautéed with garlic and still retaining a pleasant bite. For drinks, the Lychee Empress cocktail was served in a large gin and tonic glass. Unfortunately, the lychee flavor was barely noticeable, with the puree not coming through clearly. It lacked the bright, fruity notes you’d expect. The white wine we ordered was average. Service was handled by Toni, an interesting and friendly host originally from Hong Kong. He added a personal touch to the experience. Note: There’s a 10% service charge — slightly lower than the usual for London.
Duck and Rice in London is a gem! The vibrant atmosphere blends modern chic with a nod to traditional Chinese vibes. The roasted duck is crispy, succulent, and perfectly balanced, while the rice dishes burst with flavor. My favorite is the glass noodles. Service is attentive yet unintrusive. Overall is a fantastic dining experience!
Wonderful venue with great vibes and absolutely delicious food. The signature duck was outstanding, the dim sum left you wanting more and the black bean cod that we had for main was the standout. Unfortunately the delicious meal was let down by mediocre service but hoping this is an area this great restaurant can improve on
From Duck and Rice I tried the scallop&prawn shumai, soup dumplings, prawn&chive dumplings , seabass , black pepper beef tenderloin, Japanese aubergine& tofu, the duck and special fried rice. Everything was nice, especially all the dim sum. The black pepper tenderloin had good flavour but some of the beef was chewy. Service and atmosphere were good, overall it was good but not quite worth the price.
It was one of the highlights of our UK visit The food was great, the duck was so tender and flavorful. Everything we ordered was nice. We enjoyed every dish. Servers are nice The place is a bit tight and crowded. Very busy.
Great vibe, the sofa seats are bit too tight, suggest getting the other chairs in the middle. The duck and the fish was really good.
Lovely restaurant and vibe, only put it down a star because it took a few attempts to get the gluten free menu and it was a little confusing to understand and the page says gluten free but it’s only the highlighted options that are. Wouldn’t say celiac friendly though but okay if intolerant!
Food was average to say the least Dim sum was good but the rest of the food not so much. Their haka paneer was hard and didn’t taste anything like what the dish is named after Service was good 👍
We went Battersea branch yesterday for dinner to celebrate my son achievement. Service was slow. Forgot our rice order and we need to ask again n again. We ordered soft crabs with curry sauce but the sauce tasted a bit burn. Kai Lan (vegetable) was ok. Singapore noodles a bit salty. Chicken dish very very salty. Pak Choi was good . The tofu dish was ok . Beef was ok not so hot. Including drinks after 50% off the bill promotion price is £154. We got the bill very quickly but waiting over 25mins no one comes to get the money. Ending up we took the money walk to the staff. No one say anything to us when we hand them the money. I’m not going there again .
The venison puff was poor value, they were like 3 tiny Cornish pasties, duck pancakes were great, duck and rice bowl fatty and lacking flavour, sea bass was tasty but too spicy to enjoy. Cocktails were great, beer was disappointing. Waitress was lacking charisma and service, the vibe of the place is perfect. Would not come back for the money
I feel like we had a totally different experience to all the other reviews. We had a group booking to celebrate a 50th birthday. The group arrived a little earlier (table booked for 6.30) and were sent away as the table wasn't ready, came back at the time and table wasn't ready then was sat in a lovely location but the table was far too small for the group and were eventually moved. The drinks were fine however for a group of seasoned London dining people we were all really disappointed with the food the duck and rice dish (we thought you can't go wrong with the place being called that) was a bit bland and not as succulent as it should be. The starters were okay and definitely better than the mains. It took a while to get any service during the meal. I will give credit, though as we were trying to then leave they did bring over a birthday treat which was very thoughtful. We paid a significant deposit to confirm we would be there so was extra frustrated that the table wasn't ready. The place was absolutely rammed, you could not move round it and in that sense I would say the staff and kitchen were no doubt overwhelmed but it led up to having a highly disappointing experience and one I wish I had never booked for such a special occasion. At least we were in Soho so we could find somewhere else to continue the evening as we did not want to stay any longer where we were.
We’ve been here few times before and loved it, visited again after a year or so. Unfortunately things seem to have changed for worse since our last visit, the portion sizes are much much smaller than what we remember. The food is still tasty, it’s just definitely not worth the price anymore. Looks like shrinkflation has hit this place. Service was polite and quick. Sadly after spending over £70 and not feeling particularly full, we will not be returning.
Service was rushed. Unfortunately they got our order wrong and delivered our food to the table next to us. The soft shell crab was undercooked and lukewarm but other plates were nice. The beer was slightly flat but cocktails lovely. The waiters were friendly but i dont think the overall quality of the meal reflected the price or service charge. Disappointed a little bit after hearing good things
Something has gone wrong here. This used to be very good. Ten plus visits in the past. The staff are now disengaged, telling us we only had 1.5hrs 3 times before we even sat down in a near empty ground floor. Got seated by the toilet door. Then the food, the dim sum was excellent as always. The mains were poor, the ‘rice’ inedible. Bland and hard. Either old or badly cooked, unable to tell. Such a shame as used to be very good. I emailed the restaurant directly as I don’t like online reviews. But they didn’t respond.
Lovely food, but appalling service. We waited 1 hour 45 mins for our main course because the waiter forgot to tell the kitchen we were ready. Had to take it away in a box.
