The best cocktails we had in London, without reservation!

The best Cocktails in the area and one of my favourites in London! Very inventive and a bit different.

Amazing experience. Delicious food, great drinks, nice atmosphere. Definitely coming back soon.

Understated cocktail bar which has a huge space at the back for more tables and people. It's a really welcoming venue with lots of little touches like pictures, drinks and bottles. The cocktail bar is right in front of you and looks like a workshop! Good value for cocktails at £10 ish each. Great for dates or catching up in general. Does do food and also wine but we didn't indulge.

Great cocktails, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and a buzzing atmosphere. Most cocktails are around £10, and there's an amazing small plates menu. The cocktail menu is totally weird and wonderful, but the bar tenders will gladly make you classics if you fancy something more standard. Worth booking a table, as it's often very busy.

Booked the whole venue for a private function! celebrated my birthday here and was a great venue for my intimate celebrations. Had around 45-50 people for cocktails and drinks. There’s two rooms, the bar up front where everyone walks in, then the back room where we spent most of the night with the DJ. Claudia was great in answering any questions I had beforehand, helped us book the DJ, as well as agreeing to add shots to the menu. The cocktails/ drinks were delicious and you could tell the team put a lot of effort in. Alfie and the team were great on the night and had quick service throughout! Really happy with the whole thing and would recommend for a private event.

A true hidden gem of a restaurant/cocktail bar. Some of the best cocktails in London, delicious food by pop up chefs, great music you can't not like. And owner Dave and his team are super friendly.

Was introduced to the place a week ago and gotta say - very impressed! The place has this cosy, intimate vibe with a few small tables in the front, which is great for dates, but there’s also some bigger space for bigger get togethers in the back. We tried marinated olives (delicious product), empanadillas (perfect crispiness), croquettas de manchego (sooo nice and creamy inside), bavette steak (fire!), roasted fennel (liked the nutty finishing A LOT) and finished it all off with some really hot oxtail nuggets. Especially the latter were something to write home about. Actually, everything was, including delicious cocktails and very professional yet friendly staff <3 (thank you so much Alfie and Claudia!). I hope I’ll be able to drop by again sooner than later!

Amazing spot tucked away in Brixton away from the madness of the strip but close enough to the action. Great cocktails, food and warm and welcoming vibes whilst also feeling like a cool hidden gem. They had a DJ playing vinyl records when I went which had me constantly reaching for my phone to Shazam. Plus would highly recommend for the 1st or 50th date. I’m Brixton born and raised and definitely my favourite spot. Had the pleasure of meeting the lovely couple who run it and their passion for the place definitely comes through in the food, drink and atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.

Loved the vegan menu ,chef Tomaso and friends are really great. high quality food, very consistent and fresh. Nice drinks too like 7 minutes walking from brixton station. Reasonable prices.

Hidden in plain sight, just 5 mins walk from Brixton Station. Outstanding cocktails and definitely worth asking for something off-menu, like an Absinthe Frappé! I didn't try the food but the kitchen staff rotate every 6 months to keep the menu as fresh as the cocktails.

Our favourite bar in south London! A lovely hidden spot with fabulous drinks and wonderful, welcoming staff. The drinks really are spectacular and original. We keep coming back to try the new specials. They always have flavours and combinations you couldn't find anywhere else.

Amazing cocktail bar with delicious drinks. Made a booking for 10 on short notice and the staff were awesome! They were more than happy to take requests for cocktails and made some cracking creations.

A nice interesting cocktail bar around Brixton. Quite small but very cozy. It actually gave me the impression I am having cocktails at a friend's house or so. Extra bonus for the friendly staff.

Great atmosphere and even better drinks. The Pisco Sour was one of the best I've had outside of Chile! My new favourite venue.

5* - would really recommend this place! Came here for drinks last night. The staff were very friendly and made a proper effort to ensure that we were happy and comfortable. The cocktails were very tasty and the overall vibes were great. Will 100% be returning soon on a Friday/Saturday to listen to one of the DJs!

Delicious food which was very well presented - can recommend the roast fennel and the bavette steak. Beer served in frosty glasses and delicious cocktails! We booked with the August offer on the website so the price was very reasonable 👍

Probably, almost definitely, the best cocktails I've had in London. The cocktails have a kick, a lasting memory which has made Shrub and Shutter my go to cocktail bar in London! The food is great too, full of flavour! But to top it off are the staff who make you feel at home with their great hospitality and personable vibes - in particular Liam, with the good energy and jokes! Looking for Great Cocktails, Great Food and Great Vibes... Come to Shrub and Shutter!

Staff are great, cocktails are top notch. No scrimping on the measures but not at the detriment to the overall flavour. They also have a few cocktails that bring a bit of theatre to proceeding (I won's spoil that bit as it's fun to find out for yourself). I was lucky enough to taste several of their "one weekend only" cocktails, as a member of the team - much like any classic cop buddy movie - "came out of retirement" for one last time. Will definitely go back there - great for small groups of friends or for a date.

The food was brilliant. Would especially recommend the chicken skewers and the roasted fennel. Cocktails were also really special. Would definitely recommend.

Do not walk… but run, to this extraordinary bar. They know exactly what they’re talking about and will deliver both the drama and the drinks for any discerning guest. Their menu cocktails are great, but don’t be afraid to challenge the staff with your preferences and you’ll get a great recommendation. We went after a gig at the Brixton Academy and it was like having a bonus, additional night out. Highly recommended.

This is the cutest little place. Awesome cocktails, and great small plates. The old fashioned, amazing! Loved the the DJ in the back room too. Perfect for a date night. Will visit again.

A lovely and atmospheric cocktail bar, serving delicious unusual cocktails. I had the lemongrass gin with fig and citrus, which was so good! Very good value too. The food was probably the best I have had for a long time. Packed with flavours, beautiful presentation, Great service, welcoming, a gem.

I hired the whole place for my 30th - Everyone loved the venue which was perfect size for about 50 people, cosy atmosphere, good speakers and great food and drinks. Claudia was great in helping organise and we look forward to visiting again

Stumbled upon this place on Friday and really happy we did. Absolutely the best cocktails I've ever had and the current chef's menu pairs excellently with them. Great atmosphere great vibe, cocktails and food. Couldn't ask for more.

I hired out the whole place for my 30th birthday. Alfie, the owner, was incredibly accommodating with all my asks/needs and without a doubt went above and beyond to provide an amazing night! The food and cocktails were incredible and expertly made, with nothing to fault whatsoever (he even allowed renames of a handful of the drinks to add that extra touch). All the staff on the night worked so hard to make sure it went smoothly, and I couldn’t think of anywhere more ideal to celebrate a birthday or special occasion. Myself and all the guests (approx. 50) had an immensely fun night, with many being complimentary of the service, cocktails, food, and awesome atmosphere (zero complaints heard!). I couldn’t recommend this place more if I tried - it’s an absolute must for any occasion!!

A real gem! We were looking for something interesting and a bit different and this ticked the boxes. Intimate, friendly and everything was delicious. The standout for me was the Oxtail Nuggets - perfectly spiced. However everything was great quality and we had most of the dishes on the menu…

This place is really good. Independent retailer with unique wines, cocktails and food! Sharing plates. We doubled dated. Really cool atmosphere and restaurant. We met the owner Alfie, said he’s Spanish but he sounds like a cockney!!

Hired out the whole place for our wedding years ago and everything was perfect. Wanted to see if it’s still going. Glad to see it still seems to be.

The most amazingly run little gem in London. Such a cool vibe with great music. The front of house are welcoming, kind and considerate. The cocktails on offer are unique and DELICIOUS. Thank you so much!! We will be back

Cute little cocktail bar with great food and nice staff. Really nice vibe for a date spot, great selection of cocktails. We had a few of the small plates as well and they were very tasty!

Hired the whole venue out of my husband's 50th Birthday. Alfie and his team, Tammy and Prosper were amazing. Communication was easy...from designing a menu to making the day go smoothly. Oxtail nuggets and beef brisket sliders were outstanding. I couldn't have asked for a better venue. Thanks Alfie xx

Absolutely delicious cocktails. The spicy margarita was perfection. Friendly and fun service. I can't comment on the food as we didn't have any. I will definitely be back!

Great cocktails, classics with a twist and if you ask, they'll make you something custom. Didn't have food but looked good. Not too busy

This is an absolute gem of a place. We hired the back room for a private party. The staff were so friendly and the service was spot on. Thanks to Tammie and Prosper who looked after us so well. Would highly recommend this place.

I went to Shrub and Shutter on a first date on Friday and thought the cocktails were fantastic - some of the best I've found in South London! Particularly recommend the Aperol/Mezcal-based special (can't remember the name of it!) The staff were attentive and friendly - the owner was a delight and gave us some interesting info on the cocktails. We enjoyed the Pan Con Tomate and the cheesy croquettes also. Give this place a go

Absolutely incredible. Delicious food and cocktails from a passionate couple. Worked with dietary requirements cocktails were incredible and the croquettes, tomatoes and fennel were unreal and the olives we ate like popcorn. We will be back. You need to go.

Fantastic evening with stunning and creative cocktails. (We tried 12 during the evening so well placed to comment!) Great music, great food and great vibe. There were four of us and we all really enjoyed it. The delicious food was by La Mesa and would definitely recommend. We’ll be back soon to enjoy the guitar as well! Thanks guys 👍

Awesome cocktail list and friendly staff. The front half is a small bar with limited seating. We were able to walk in and sit there with no booking. There's a restaurant at the back that seemed to require coming ahead.

Lovely place, was very empty the night we went (more staff than people drinking!) unfortunately. Great cocktail menu. Would love to see a non-alcoholic/virgin selection offered also.

T

Went there for a private party. Overpriced drinks. There are little options for people who don't drink alcohol i.e. no alcohol free beer, cider, etc. Everything seems to come in 0.33 cans. It's definitely not a place I will return to.

On walking in its a little hidden gem, looking a bit like a coffee shop, chilled vibes and the bar snacks are gorgeous. We loved the manchego Croquettes. The drinks menu is hard to understand but the servers are happy to explain. The drinks are very unique, they are small and strong. We had 2 each and we werent that fussed maybe we chose the wrong ones but I had a strong smokey one

It is a lovely venue but fell below expectations regarding their service. We waited a good while till we got served and regularly had to call the waiter for attention. Food was nice, but one of our dishes were forgotten about. It's a lovely venue but fell below expectations. We shouldn't have to chase down the waiters when were spending £45pp.

Not sure where to start, so let’s start with the cocktails: good and creative range...but small and overpriced. Which is apparently the policy in this establishment. So to resume it: basically if you want you can order the jersey potatoes: you will get exactly 2, yes 2, 2 inches boiled jersey potatoes cut in wedges for ...£10 yes £10. I have been to many restaurants including Michelin star and never I had paid that for this little amount of potatoes. Pricing is just ridiculous so if you are hungry just don’t bother. So all in all for 3 persons you looking at £155 without being outrageous with the drinks and obviously you are leaving hungry which I always hated when you spend that amount of money. And again food is not that creative and you think it’s a great business plan to sale potatoes with those kind of margins or to put a filet fish on a plate after you divided in 3 this is how tiny the portions are. Looks good not that amazing except if you happy to make the owner richer by ripping you off. PS: picture of a 6cm by 4cm piece of fish ( in the share platter section ) for £12.....

I used to come here for years where it was a friendly and welcoming space. Came back and was treated poorly, none of the original spark and was insulted by the waitress for a simple question regarding opening times. No more inventive cocktails. Times have changed. A shame to an institution

A
Anais Aida

Some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced in London. The waitress was incredibly rude, impatient, and unpleasant. It’s a shame because the place has the potential for being a really nice spot but the way we were treated made us never want to go back. Truly a shame. She couldn’t even be bothered to serve us wine in a wine glass, poured it in a cup of water and then very reluctantly brought a wine glass when we suggested we requested it. BAD VIBES

R
Reena Patel

The food was great and so were the cocktails however the female waitress was so inappropriate and rude that it left a very sour taste in our mouths. To add insult to injury she added in a tip and despite the fact we disputed it, refused to remove it. Virtually threw the menu at us to show she was entitled to it and refused to provide a receipt as ‘we are paperless’ but also refused to email a receipt. I will be contacting trading standards - totally unacceptable (and I’m usually not inclined to complain given that I have worked in the service industry for years)

It hurts to leave a bad review to a local business, but they really let me down. I booked a space in the bar for 12+ people for my graduation, having come in and chatted to the staff and agreed a date and time. I was happy to put a deposit down but they said it would not be necessary. We arrived ready to celebrate, and the bar was shut. The owner said sorry, he forgot to put it in the system, and they thought it would be a quiet evening. I cannot understand or accept why you would accept a large booking without logging it, in doing so ruining someone's plans for such a special occasion. I received somewhat of an apology but that's it, no offer to come and open up, nor any other way to make it up to me. Really disappointing, and I can't say I'll ever go back.

If i could rate 0 stars i would. I came with a friend on a Friday evening and at first it was a pleasant experience, until the waitresses started to make us feel uncomfortable and make huge hints for us to leave. We had just finished with our drinks and we kept getting asked if we wanted the bill… we said no as we wanted to stay longer and the shop didn’t close until 10pm (is was 9:15 at this point). The waitress still came back seconds later with a card machine. We said we just said we are okay and she left and then came back AGAIN seconds later. She said this time, we HAD to pay anyways. We were so confused as we hadn’t even received a receipt or anything stating how much we are even paying. We felt so uncomfortable so we payed there and then and then left. But the whole experience was horrible. I still haven’t received my receipt (had to ask them again before we left for it and they said they’d send it via email). It felt racially coded and was very upsetting. We just wanted a lovely evening out. Definitely not recommending this place to anyone.
