Yongsusan Restaurant offers traditional Korean cuisine that is both delicious and authentic. It’s a great place to eat with elders, providing a comfortable and respectful atmosphere. The service is attentive and courteous, adding to the overall pleasant experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy traditional Korean dishes in a welcoming setting.
I don’t know why food writers haven’t found this place, but This restaurant really represents true traditional Korean Dining (nothing fusion about this place). Everyone who has ever been invited to Dol (1st birthday party for Koreans) or any traditional Korean party in past many decades (this is one of long endured k-restaurants in K-town) has been here. Most might remember this place as traditional k-buffet (as that is how it’s served at events prior to covid) but It’s one of many places that we take for granted. Yea, K-bbq is great and all (I love kbbq) but if you want to experience what typical kings meal was like… come hungry (with open mind) and order one of their fixed courses. It’s definitely not for small eater but best way to get many tastes in one sitting. Take notes, so next time you can stick to your favorites and not order the entire menu 🐽. At end of every meal, they serve persimmon cinnamon water. That’s when you know your meal has come to an end 😋
A historic fixture of Koreatown with great tasting food and presentation emulating the palatial food served to the Korean royal family. A tapas style of various Korean samplers and entrees that are crisp, delectable, and non-greasy. A good place to go for family and groups.
had a dohl here, and it was awesome! the service was great, the food was amazing and the space was large.
Great place to have a private room and upscale Korean food. Amazing place. I had my father’s after funeral meal here. It was exceptional!!
A higher end option for gourmet Korean cuisine. They have rooms and the classic asian service button when you need help. Expect to pay a lot - typical cost per person $50-$100 depending on what you order and drinks. Not where you go with Korean friends but rather non-koreans you want to treat right.
Tasty traditional Kaesong style Korean fare. A little pricey for these authentic dishes but excellently prepared and worth the price. We went to a birthday party in a private room for 70 people. Excellent food and service.
Best korean restaurant ever. Very famous restaurant from Seoul Korea. T
Such a fun experience getting served very traditional Korean food! A one of a kind service with coursed meals and fun private rooms! Worth checking out!
This place has been at same location for at least 40 years. They serve northern Korean style food and I really like there course dinner. I really don't remember whether it's 10 or 12 course but lots of excellent food. I drive from orange county to come here and dinner time it takes at least hour so it better have to great. It's always been great and never had bad meal here.
I have been going to this restaurant since I believe I was a toddler. If you want to experience a higher level, authentic Korean dishes, this is the place for you. They prepare, season, and cook ingredients to bring out the most natural flavors and deeper tastes than salty, sweet and spicy. I definitely suggest getting their fixed menu options if it is your first time. For example, my favorite is their galbijjim ($60), which comes with 8 ban chans and soup.
The food here was really good. I live in korea and came here with my family. I can say the quality and taste is high.
I was here for my father's 80 birthday. So we have about 50 people in one room. We all have great time. Food was excellent, interior was very cozy, service was good. Everything was perfect.
If you are interested in having quiet nice meal with your family or friends this is definitely the place to go. I didn’t mind paying a little extra for the service and atmosphere. The server was very nice and attentive. Food tasted excellent. What more do you look for in a restaurant.
Fantastic old school Korean joint from the late 90’s. Solid food. Their bulgalbi was so tender! All the food was delicious. Yum!
We had $79 package and it was about $100 per person including tax and 20% tip. $3 vallet parking. The food was great and especially, LA galbi was fantastic. Its little bit pricey, but if you have not been there, its a good place to experience traditional Korean food. I think they had michelin star before.
This restaurant was incredible and I love that we all had our own private rooms. I don’t usually like fish with bones or skin and the fish dish was amazing. Not fishy at all. I had cuttlefish and ended up eating the whole bowl of it. I’m usually pretty squeamish about stuff like that but it was phenomenal. I am sensitive to MSG and preservatives and I could eat everything that was presented to me. Can’t wait to go back!
it was my first time celebrated my mom's Birthday. My mom and all of my family loved theri food and service. gave us beutiful memory and we will be back again!
4.5/5 stars - This spot is unique because it offers Hanjeonsik (Korean traditional course meal). We each chose the $72.99 course meal. My fave was the galbijjim. It was so flavorful and tender and just perfect! I also really enjoyed the bossam, sea scallops, and the eel. The black cod was so tender, but had a ton of bones in it. I liked trying the gujeolpan (kind of like crepes). The presentation was beautiful, but taste-wise wasn’t super impressed. I could barely taste any of the filling. My least fave was probs the cabbage kimchi. It was too spicy, and I didn’t see any seafood in it.
Five star rating for the unique concept of dedicated private dining. The food was ok but my favorite thing about this Ktown spot is the versatility of catered meeting space. We had a space for 24 seated guests with ample room for everyone to mingle. You can see from the photos I’ve included, they’ve had an impressive roster of celebrity guests over the years. Yongsusan has been and integral part of the Koreatown culture where groups can meet, eat and mingle uninterrupted. In our case, we hosted a life insurance presentation.
We got the 4 per person dinner course meal for $70 each. This north korean inspired korean restaurant is very delicious. I would definitely come back.
Incredible traditional Korean food. We got the multi course meal but here were the highlights. Bossam (cold pork belly wraps) Grilled Eel Braised Short Rib Bbq short rib Side dishes with great attention to detail
Delicious meal and nice dining experience. Restaurant has small rooms for private dining if the party is large enough. Price is a little high but overall feels justified.
Great food selection! And very yummy. Accommodated 30 people in one room. I definitely recommend trying this place out.
Upscale Gyesong (North of Seoul) style Korean restaurant offering private dining experience for small group (2-8 people). They also seem to have a bigger room for events. First time I tried the set meal here was back in 2002. Over the years, I had gone back regularly, and the quality of foods remain the same. The servers always have been accommodating for vegeterian alternatives when I ordered the set menu that had meat dishes.
I’m from out of town so I surely appreciate how homey their food makes me feel. Fresh, delicious and perfect all the way around

Royal Korean Cuisine offered a la carte and tasting menus. In addition to the communal dinning room, there are over half a dozen rooms where you can host a small group of guests of up to 10-12 and there's also a large banquet hall. I went with a group of 8 and we all got a set menu, which was mostly presented family style except for soup and a few other dishes. We dined in one of the private rooms. Overall the cuisine was on the slightly sweet side including the beef dishes, but I was grateful they didn't use MSG. Valet parking in the adjacent lot was only $2 (visited March 2017).
Great quality meat! They have waiters come and cook your meat for you so you can relax and enjoy ambiance there. Wish they slow down the cooking so it doesn't feel like you're being rushed but overall great place to go!
Very delicious traditional Korean food. They serve the dishes one by one, so the food doesn’t get cold. Very enjoyable place, they serve the foods about 2 hrs
July 2023. The food is not bad, decent traditional Korean food. Very nice dish decorating and arrangement. Private room for every group. Good place for business/date dinner and good option for catering. The only thing I didn’t like about the place was the smell, felt like restroom or sewer pipe was blocked. Somehow our room had very strong smell from the restroom and that was very disrupting.
I was excited to try out this place from all the reviews I’ve seen. I got the course menu, which was around $79 per person. I had high expectations of all the dishes considering that it was quiet pricey. However, no dishes stood out in particular and was worth the money. You do get a lot of food, which is awesome, but it’s not outstanding, so I’m not sure… I think I’d rather spend my money on some kbbq than this.
Top notch Korean restaurant in Koreatown. They offer a legit Korean cuisine in many courses. We had Hyang which is 10+ dishes coming in orders. We went there with VIP guests and VIP guests were more than impressed with the quality, taste and the way the food is set out. One minus thing was server did not explain the dishes by dishes, so I had to explain the dishes and menus for myself to my guests since it was their first time trying Korean food. Other than that, we had a pleasant experience at the restaurant and the guests were happy with the food and service.
Before my visit to this restaurant, I took the time to peruse the reviews to gain a preliminary understanding of what to expect. The occasion was an invitation to celebrate my uncle's 90th birthday, and the gathering was held at this restaurant. The event brought together more than 100 attendees, and we were situated on the second floor for a buffet-style lunch. I recognized that the nature of buffet-style service might introduce some variations in terms of freshness and food temperature compared to individually served dishes. As I arranged my plate, I noticed that the quantity of food available surpassed the capacity of a single plate, which is certainly a testament to the restaurant's generous offerings. On the whole, the dining experience was satisfactory. However, I couldn't help but notice a minor setback regarding the cleanliness of the chairs. Given the restaurant's reputation, I had expected impeccable hygiene standards. Unfortunately, there were visible food stains on some of the chairs, which did raise a concern. My sister even hesitated to take her seat due to this issue. In an effort to enhance the overall experience, I would suggest a few improvements. Firstly, attention to the cleanliness of the chairs is essential, aligning with the restaurant's name and reputation. Additionally, focusing on the upkeep of the restroom facilities and introducing tasteful decorations and scents would contribute to a cleaner and fresher atmosphere throughout the establishment. These thoughtful enhancements could significantly elevate the dining experience.

Came here, had high expectations due to the prices are very high and heard alot of good rhings but i guess they had an off day xause the food was sub par felt a little stomach ache after eating the bosam, food was dry and just wasnt that good.
Ok so the food was delicious, many stars for that. Some of the best Korean food I’ve had, the soup had ferns in it and slices of meat. The environment was clean, there are little private rooms for people. Bathrooms really clean. Minus two stars for the following reasons: 1) service was not friendly. The lady at the front was on the phone and didn’t greet us or seat us at all, we had to ask for the menu and I had to set the table for us in terms of cutlery. She gave us the bill as soon as our plates were complete, kind of a rude sign of “get out of here” vibe. You have to take valet parking, no other choice. 2) price is expensive. The lunch menu is over 70 per person and if you order a la carte it’s about 30$ at least. So for this price I would expect something higher quality in terms of service or food. The bibimbap only have a few slivers of beef. Overall not too bad, but wouldn’t come again.

I think it's great only when it's NOT busy. You can tell they are always extremely understaffed both waiters and kitchen because of the vastly huge difference of food/experience depending if its busy or not. I just feel bad for the servers because of that issue cause asking for water feels too much of a burden on them when it's so busy... Owner needs to do better and hire more workers for both customers & workers sake.

The quality of the food was better than other Korean restaurants, but I had a bad experience from the entrance. Although there was valet parking, no one was there when we arrived and they were still preparing to open. We parked the car and waited for a while until the store opened. When we got out of the car to go inside, someone confidently asked us to give them the valet parking fee and key as if they were theirs. I understand, but what is the definition of valet parking? I parked the car myself, so why is it called valet parking? Without any explanation, as if it were a matter of course, the employee asked us to hand over the valet parking fee and key, because of their own circumstances. What kind of manners is that? The attitude of the employee guiding us at the entrance was unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable repeatedly.
Touted as a premier traditional Korean dining place. While you get kind service and private rooms, the food did not deliver. You would think that if it was a spread you would have well portioned designed for the number of guests, but some dishes were large and some small. Food was just mediocre with a few tweaks I think it can be made into the dining experience it should be...
You better think twice before come this place. I spent over $300 for my group's dinner (5), but the food and service were discouraged , not even closed to the price charged. We were not satisfied at all, we wished money back. They do not have even any basic to satis the clients. At the other places like Kang Shu restaurant, Soowon Galbi, we always appriciate the food qualities there even thier price are same or less than here. We totally wasted our time and money, got screwed our valuable weekend . Be shame on this place!!
I wanted to introduce my wife how Korean full course food is served. Their food costs top level but none of food was right and I had to stop eating in the middle.of course and paid.
I had my mom‘s 90s birthday party there. We ordered the course for six of us, which costed $100 per person. It was not money worthy!! Awful! If you pay $100 per person, at least they should have former clothes napkins. They had gnats flying in the room!!! Bad experience!!!
I was there to treat my non-Korean business partner a Korean course meal. I have to admit I never like the idea of a course meal so maybe I am biased. At first, I thought the price was outrageous but reluctantly rationalized it as a course meal. However, the whole dining experience there really did not change my initial impression. The dishes did not appear to be authentic or traditional to me and tasted rather bland to me except for the fish (a replacement of pork but was rather salty). The service was not impressive either. All they did was bringing out the dishes and they never paid attention to the needs of the customers. I had to walk up to the front to ask for an extra pair of chopsticks and forks to bone the fish and the change of the plates. I may be one of those impatient ones but the server was hardly around our table except for the time she brought out the dishes. In a way, it may be an inherent problem of this 'course meal' because the servers are busy bringing out the dishes. It was supposed to be a business lunch but I really could not focus on the conversation. I truly regretted that I took her there and do not think I will ever go to one of these places on my own, especially if I have to pay. I hope the management of the restaurant reads this so that they could think about how to improve customers' dining experience.
Extremely POOR service at our post-FUNERAL lunch in the second floor banquet room for 50-60 guests set for Noon to 3 pm on a Friday. The burial was delayed so some grieving family members made it to lunch later by 1 pm. By only 2 pm, a rude waitress kicked us all out, herself yanking my daughter’s computer wires to abruptly end the slide show of my Mother’s life, and abruptly turning off the lights and music in the banquet room while we were still eating! Apparently, the waitress did not like the meager $500 cash tip for this $3k lunch buffet because it was not a 20-25% tip? The buffet food was set far away from the tables (difficult for elderly guests), and the tea was so diluted you might as well have been drinking cold discolored tap water. If you want poor treatment after a funeral service of a loved one, go to Yongsusan where manners and elegance are compromised. This used to be a nice place decades ago.
Foods was nice and delicious but service and room condition was horrible There were flies everywhere and it was very hard to enjoy the foods When I told her about flies she just say flies are everywhere and they can control it Really??????? Please be aware flies
