Mama Josie's is the place to go for best burritos or even menudo!!! I love it. Plus it's close by to my house... Love it even more. Everyone is nice and takes the time for you
I used to have this place on my crap list. No lie. They really were bad. Recently tried them again.. And my goodness. Food has been fresh. Delicious. A total reversal. I've been there like 5 times the last month or so. Chimichanga has been my fave.
I got here around 1:30 and there were cars in front of me, I thought I was gonna be there for ever, but the line moved pretty fast, and they hooked me up with some of the best nachos around town! Only thing is, who ever does their truck sucks, because how are u gonna sell Mexican food and not order enough guacamole to sell? I’m definitely coming back!
I have been going to this drive thru for oh, I dont know. For forever! Its never a miss. Always on point. Hot, fresh. When I lived in lubbock I always went. And open 24hours! Can't beat that. Wish I had some in central texas. Keep it up Team on 34th! Thank you for your services!
I've gotten breakfast burritos several times and always been very happy. Tried the combination plate today- tostada, taco, and enchilada with rice and beans for $13 with tax. Nice value! Beans are good, albeit a bit salty on their own. Rice was unremarkable. Tostada was loaded and fresh. Taco was very tasty and fresh. Didn't love the enchilada sauce but still the enchilada was good. Very good value and food.
Small authentic Mexican Restaurant Drive thru only and walk ups no inside dinning
Came for two bean and cheese burritos and tortillas were hard and tough. Beans are ok. Salsa taste like tomato juice.
It's hard to give an honest and appropriate rating, how good and how accurate the food is varies greatly from day to day and from whoever seems to be working what shift. For example, sometimes my food is exactly how I order it, freshly made, fully cooked, and well seasoned. I'll use a simple potato, egg, and cheese burrito as an example. Sometimes it's under cooked, the potatoes in particular. Sometimes it's not even salted, sometimes it's way over salted. Sometimes they cook with butter/oil (very good and normal!) sometimes they cook with bacon grease (DISGUSTING and violates people who have dietary restrictions like pork and meat products) If I order something as basic as eggs cheese and potatoes, I only want to taste eggs, cheese, potatoes, salt, and butter. This is one of the only places in Lubbock you can order a fully vegetarian dish, but you can't expect it to be made in a properly accommodating way because of how inconsistent the meal preparation and quality are. I'm a VERY frequent patron, but I find myself never being optimistic, especially lately about whether or not I'm going to get what I expect. The only reason I have continued to give business is because it's a small local place, and I'd rather eat somewhere disappointing and local than some big chain that will also probably get stuff wrong, and like I said above, sometimes it's exactly what I want and exactly what I ordered, but WAY too often it's either not what I ordered, or even worse not even edible. Stop cooking with bacon grease if someone is not ordering bacon. It's disgusting, and unless you openly disclose that's how you prepare your food, you're actively harming people with dietary restrictions and violating some people's religious practices.
Worst breakfast burrito ever had ordered a chorizo and egg they sent me a egg potato and cheese. I hate their cheap cheese they use the potatoes are hard as a rock not cooked all the way through eggs were OK no seasoning I used to think Josie’s was ok but the last few times they have been horrible. Needs a lot of improvement
Seems like they don't know what comes on a big mama burrito or what the price is . Sometimes it's 10.48 sometimes it's 16.48 .or 11.48. also they never put the potatoes on it . Been getting the carne guisada big mama burrito for years . I literally tell the no pico . Just carne beans potatoes cheese and sour cream . That's it . Plus they give themselves a tip on my card . The one on Aberdeen is the one to go to. This one has issues. Regular here not anymore.
I never know what I'm gonna get. Burritos are big and I think that's fair for the price. Service is usually pretty good. I've not had a super bad experience with that. What has been bad is that when I ask for chorizo and eggs, sometimes they're awesome but usually they look like this greasy mess. Why is it so hard to drain the grease away each and every time instead of just when they feel like it? This burrito fell apart and I had to dump it out on a plate and eat it with corn tortillas cause it's all I had. I'd have been better off just going to Market Street and buying the chorizo and eggs and cooking them myself!
On Sunday 3/8/26 ordered Carne Guisada Chimichanga. Imagine my surprise when they charged me $12.69😳. After I paid I had to wait almost 30 minutes for them to fry the Chimichanga. You would of thought the Chimichanga would be pretyybgood size for the price I paid. Wrong. It was about the size of my fist and after frying it, it was rolled up tightly in foil and stuffed inside a small paper sack. No beans, no rice, no garnish. No eating utensils and no napkins. And of course when I unwrapped the Chimichanga, it was very soggy because after frying it was wrapped up in foil. It didn't taste good at all. Very disappointed. For a really good Beef Chimichanga with beans, rice, garnish, cheese, eating utensils, napkins I highly recommend Polibertos at 7601 82nd. And 😋 delicious for $10.81. Shame on you Josie's.
I ordered a burrito and small chips. I paid with a 50, she gave me back 29 dollars in change. I was like what did I order for 20 dollars. When the lady at the window handed me my food I asked for receipt, she said there's one in the bag. It only had what I ordered, not an itemized receipt. When she gave me one, she was trying to quickly shut the window I stopped her and told her she shorted me 10. She wasn't surprised at all, like she already knew what she had done. She just grabbed 10 and gave it to me. Now on to the food, it lacked color and tasted like they cooked the rice or carne guisada in an old pot or nasty water. The food taste like an old bucked of sitting water. needless to say never again. Don't waste your money!!
Behold! The absolute worst Mexican food in Lubbock. A title y'all should show proudly. Always committed to horrible service and terrible food. Congrats.
They changed their chorizo. I ordered egg and chorizo burrito, and it tastes like egg. It’s debatable the chorizo tastes like regular sausage. Even after they remade it, it still tastes like egg only with a hint of regular sausage. They say it’s in the burrito, and the new chorizo is cheaper with less flavor. They are still charging $5-$6 per burrito though. It’s just not worth it anymore. Why even sell Chorizo if it’s not gonna be the real thing. Thanks and have a good day.
Terrible service had to call five different times in a matter of 30 minutes, not even trying to blow the phone up, I waited 5-10 minutes between. then when they finally did pick up the phone they just put me on hold for 25 minutes and never came back on the line, I’m sure that was to shut down their phone system so that no one else could also try and make a Call in to go order. This is a drive up counter service restaurant with no dining area if they can’t take orders over the phone that’s a problem.
Decided to give them another chance after years. I ordered a simple burrito, the place was not busy and they still managed to get my order wrong. And when I asked to order a small bag of chips, the girl said she had "just ran out" and she would actually have to make some. Guess not coming back for another few years if ever!!!
Every single and I mean every single time I doordash food from here they don't give me what I pay for and honestly at this point it's disappointing I enjoy the nachos I've only had them made correct once in the past year I still give them a chance and get them but yet again I get nachos without queso sour cream and guacamole learn to read a ticket or read at all cause at this point I might as well never eat here again
Called ahead for breakfast. Still had to wait 40 minutes to receive my food. Was given the wrong order. Had to drive back to Josie’s restaurant in order to get a refund and was told my order would be comped but once arriving nobody wanted to take responsibility for the mistake. Worst of all they never refunded me. They CHARGED ME TWICE! I have called every day and still haven’t heard from the manger, Dena. Here’s a copy of the wrong food I paid for. 64$ for like 9 burritos. Way over priced. Do Not go to Mama Josie’s
I hate writing bad reviews, but if you want, authentic, Mexican Food this is not the place. I’m sorry to say, but the taco or burrito was nasty , salty… but that’s what you get at 2 o’clock when you’re hungry… I couldn’t give this place zero stars… The only thing I could say is customer service was great but other than that didn’t like it …sorry….
I had been a huge fan previously but had an unfortunate experience at the dinner buffet. That's a different review on a previous profile. I figured however I would give their breakfast burritos a shot. Who can mess up a taco or burrito right?!? Well I was severely disappointed. What I received for $3 24 was a pathetic burrito almost as short as children's eyeglass frames and not much wider than my finger. Most of what I thought was a burrito was tinfoil! The beans were incredibly runny, smooth like a shake, a bean puree really. I mostly consumed a small tortilla moistened with flavorless bean matter. I ended up wearing most of it. What didn't get onto my clothing is currently smeared all over the console, steering wheel and driver seat as I cleaned it hurriedly to get into work. I'm sure that's going to smell lovely baking in the car during my twelve hour shift at the hospital. Luckily my jacket covers the stains on my pants and white shirt. Also a tip. Give yourself plenty of time if you still plan on visiting after this review. The speaker at the order menu is a decoration. The orders are taken at the window. If you order something not readily available, choose a platter or have an order considered sizable you'll have to wait in the parking lot and then go through a second drive through window. I will say that the staff member I interacted with was cheerful, courteous and efficient. That element wasn't lacking in the slightest.
