The ambiance is very relaxing first of all. We had soup, salad, an appetizer, and entree; and each of them was executed flawlessly! Plus the wait staff was very nice and quick with our meals. We will definitely be going here again!

GREAT new addition to my area! We went literally the first or second day of their full open. Waitress was great and knew all the answers to the questions we asked (rare with a new venue). Rotating craft beer list is great and will continue that way. Wings were a great appetizer Burger was awesome and I was allowed to add goat cheese to it (try it sometime it's amazing). My wife had one of 3 entrees she was torn between. At least I know we will be back very soon to try one of the others Keep up the great work. We appreciate it

Excellent place for an evening out. Food was cooked perfectly to order. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting thanks to a wonderful wait staff that ensured our every need was met with a smile and a quickness. Can't recommend it enough stop by and try it yourself.

Stopped here on a road trip from Lake Placid to Ithaca. Outstanding chef-driven American classical Memphis pork was perfect with a nice tangy sauces perfect mashed potatoes and key lime pie. Great garden, bring your pooch. Super friendly services Worth a detour!

This is a restaurant near the landmark Swan Pond in Manlius. There is parking to the right of the building with more across the street. My dinner was cooked by a chef who clearly understands how to be a chef. Cooked well with excellent presentation. It was too heavy on the sauces for my liking but it was correct. That may sound strange but hopefully my meaning comes across. My meal was very filling. I very rarely get a doggie bag but I did this time. For people who want simpler food when eating with someone who wants fancier cuisine, they also have burgers and fries. However, this is an adult restaurant with a bar. Good for a date but not a good place for younger children. Good for older teens wanting an adult dining experience. Update Winter 2021-2022 - the menu has changed slightly but generally the same with many dishes based on the name of the restaurant such as the Root burger. The clam chowder special was excellent. Update June - pretty much the same as last winter. They have a flourless (gluten free) chocolate cake dessert.

A friend and I went yesterday after it was recommended to us while shopping. If I knew the woman’s name I would send her a thank you note! Spotless restaurant, amazing food and great service! Also overlooking the swan pond. It was perfect. It will definitely be our go to place from now on!

Wow, what a makeover! You'll really be impressed if you remember what it looked like before it was Scenic Root. My sister and I ordered drinks at the bar because we wanted to eat on the deck and there was a 10 minute wait. Our drinks were well made so the evening started out with an A+. My sister's entree' was nicely presented and delicious. I ordered an appetizer and salad which was perfect and enough of a meal for me. The service was relaxed but excellent and friendly...a very comfortable place. I enjoyed myself completely, so I am going back next week with friends! -Georgia

I wish I had known about this place before! Just stumbled across it, and from top to bottom it was an excellent experience. The service was phenomenal, and the food was beyond compare. We had crab deviled eggs, which were simply fantastic. Also a salmon piccata that was also beyond words. I don't know what else to say except you should try this place.

This was our first visit to Scenic Root, and it was lovely! The food was excellent, and I have to say that the French Onion Soup was the BEST I've ever had! Everyone that worked there was very kind and attentive, as well!

My kids and I ate here tonight and it was amazing! The restaurant is so cozy and welcoming. They have a smaller menu so you're not overwhelmed with choices although everything sounds so delicious it makes it hard to choose what to order. We had the fried calamari, shrimp agro dolce and the French onion soup to start and all three were mouthwatering good. For an entree I had the pappardelle Esposito and my kids had chicken fingers and fries and a flat bread pizza and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The food not only tasted delicious but was plated to perfection! We ended our meal with the chocolate cake which we shared and loved! The wait staff was so friendly and attentive. If you're looking for an amazing dining experience in every way then this is your place!

I've enjoyed going to Scenic Root every time. Adjacent to the infamous Swan Pond in Manliys, this historic building has been beautifully renovated. Ask to be seated in the patio room. Simple but delicious lunch menu. Portions are generous and price is fair. The tables are clean and cutlery is wrapped is a cloth dinner napkin. Bread and herbed oil is you free app. Nice touch! Well done.

It’s a lovely quaint eatery in Manlius which has seen ups and downs over the years. In the recent times it’s been excellent. Been there twice in the last month. Food quality is great, service fantastic and a nice cozy space with a full bar. The cranberry chicken and the shrimp tacos have been a big hit in our family. I would love to see a vegetarian burger added to the menu. Unreservedly recommended.

Stumbled upon this gem by accident while passing through town. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was delicious. We ordered salad, salmon and a sandwich all were made with fresh ingredients that were paired by a skilled chef. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

I've been coming here with my family for years now. The food is always really fresh and flavorful and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. Never heard of this place, we found it after going to the Manlius Theatre. We got the maple hot wings as an appetizer, they were delicious. My husband got the shrimp tacos with a side of chips and queso, he enjoyed all of it. I got the cranberry chicken, it was amazing. The portions for everything were big. The waitstaff was friendly. On the way out every one of the waitstaff said thank you and wished us a good evening. We plan on returning.

We are never let down by the quality of food and excellent care from the staff! It’s easy to see that everyone who works at Scenic Root loves being there through the genuine care they show to all of their customers. Now on to the food...the chef has prepared a menu that never disappoints. The Root Burger, shrimp tacos and pork tenderloin are some of our favorite meals, but don’t stick to your faves, the specials are always inventive and will make your taste buds dance. I cannot say enough about the Scenic Root, you must see for yourself and I promise you will fall in love with not only the food but the atmosphere and hospitality as well. If I could give more stars I would time and time again.

Great food! The menus changes regularly, so its always exciting to come in and check what's new. It's also nice they have a few options they keep on rotation just in case you like to stick to what you know. Atmosphere is great for conversation. Great place for fish on Fridays, everywhere seems to have an option but their serving size and kitchen staff nail it out of the park. Follow their social media for specials, as their chef is talented and likes to create his own spin on a variety of dishes.

The shrimp tacos were delicious—FAR better than the local chain’s version. Cranberry orange chicken was terrific—zesty cranberry orange on grilled chicken on bed of tasty risotto—flavorful and comforting. Caesar salad was full of Parmesan. Even the Cole slaw with the tacos was a cut above! Highly recommend!

We had a bottle of wine, baked fish, mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. I also had apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was quick.

When you walk in it's cut into smaller areas to make it more cozy. When we were seated the view of the Swan pond was amazing. Service was outstanding the menu had so many great options to choose from. But the best part of it was the meal itself. I got sweet and spicey chicken tacos. They were mouth watering and so full of flavor. I will definitely eat here again.

After the recent passing of my Father in Law, our family was looking for a place to celebrate his life after the funeral. One phone call to Scenic Route and they more than accommodated us. They opened early, helped us plan a simple yet fulfilling menu, and stayed open until the last person was ready to leave. Mike and Tiffany were helpful, thoughtful and wonderful to work with during a difficult time, and I would recommend Scenic Route without hesitation. We have always enjoyed this gem in Manlius, and now have yet another reason to visit.

House burger with everything and fries lunch was excellent. Wish they hadn't run out of Corona, but that's life. Excellent lunch venue and quiet enough to talk and enjoy the meal. $12 bucks for a burger is not cheap, but it comes with fries. Give it a try.

Great atmosphere with an awesome view of the historic swan pond. Food was excellent. Servers are very knowledgeable, professional, and kind. Great wine and drink selection. Bartenders really know their stuff as well! The owner was even serving tables that night and not flaunting or mentioning the fact that he was the owner. A refreshing humble act to see a small local business owner in the trenches getting the best feedback possible. A must try in my opinion!

So happy to find a decent affordable meal near my father's home since Hullar's closed. I've been twice since the new menu was introduced last week, and I'll be returning many times to sample more of their offerings. The service is second to none and everything I've sampled has been spot on. My only complaint is that the French fries I had last week were far superior than the crinkle cut fries I was served tonight.

Our meals where fantastic. We like to share meals and this is one of the few times neither of us could figure out which meal was better. We shared dessert and I found myself trying to block her fork. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. Our waiter was very friendly. Great time and we even came late and they did not rush us.

My family and I have visited Scenic Root multiple times now and each time has been wonderful. Our most recent trip was the most exceptional due to the level of service we experienced from the server and the chef. Our daughter is allergic to all dairy, peanuts, and eggs and she was having a rough time selecting from the kids menu that didn't necessarily cater to vegan options. (And to be clear, we typically order her a protein and then a vegetable--all the other options we lean more towards vegan because they eliminate her allergens.) Unfortunately, but fortunately we ordered from the adult menu and they accommodated us with pricing due to the situation. We didn't expect that and nor did we expect to get a visit from the chef explaining his process, but it happened. This really went over well with us as a family, but most importantly with my 8 year old daughter who felt left out due to her allergies. Our family doesn't expect an entire establishment to change their menu for her, but when we experience a restaurant that is caring and flexible, and communicates like Scenic Root did, we are loyal patrons. Thank you for making this day really work for her. Our family is grateful.

We are in from out of town with family (we live in Paris France) and just had the most wonderful dinner at Scenic Root. From the moment we arrived it was a warm and welcoming experience. We started with delicious margaritas and Apérol spritz with an assortment of appetizers of fried calamari / fried pickles / pork dumplings / small clams/ greens and sausage - ALL were divine! We were a lively group of 10 and never had to wait long for drinks food or water - really sweet, professional and exceptional wait staff! Our entrées were varied from the coconut shrimp curry (yum!) / skirt steak / pork tenderloin and the burger. Portions are large and we brought what we couldn’t finish home. Everyone was thrilled with their food, which is a HUGE feat - as we are picky discerning food people! The chef even came out to say hello knowing how happy we were with everything. We highly recommend Scenic Root and will be sure to come back when we are in town. BRAVO!

I had the Root Burger, which was very tasty and fun to eat. Fries are not that great. I was very impressed by the bread dip instead of butter.

Great food, great service... had the Pub Steak. Suggestion: pair with the bleu cheese glaze, and a nice Cabernet Sauv. Polite suggestion: maybe expand the wine list? Thank you!

Very busy place for a Saturday night. Hostess, server, very friendly. Menu is appealing and prices are right for everyone's range. I had a fun cocktail concoction. Service was slow, it may have been our servers 1 st night ion a busy night as we had 2 different servers thereafter. A bit confusing. I would be repeat customer for sure.

The atmosphere in this place is awesome. Very comfortable and romantic. It's a little pricey but in my opinion it's well worth it. The food was great, could of been a little larger of a serving and garnished for a better appearance but was cooked to perfection. Their service is very good and their bartender is awesome!

Our server was fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and overall quite accommodating. I had my child with me, she's 1-1/2 years and they were very tolerant of her rather loud and curious behaviors. The restaurant was of course the Scenic Root in Manlius, NY and I do absolutely recommend a visit to this gem!

This is a cute little restaurant. Not much in the way of beer selection but enough to where anyone can find something of interest. The food is really good. I don't normally order steaks when I go out but I took a chance on their delmonico, I was happily impressed with how good it was! My wife had an eggplant dish that was good but their tomato sauce was very sweet, like pizza sauce, and didn't do the otherwise tasty meal justice

New menu alert!! I always love to see new dishes added to a menu, but this is a completely new menu. Sad to say goodbye to the Shrimp Riggies and the Root Burger but the Southern Delight was very delicious and unique with the collard greens. Will be going back to try other new items that caught my eye!

Scenic Root has a delicious menu with a nice variety of dishes. They recently added gluten free pasta to their menu. I had a gf chicken marsala that was divine. Their take out packaging is well designed and maintains the flavor well. Dining in is am enjoyable experience I recommend doing as well. During 2020, Scenic Root handled the changes extremely well and did an amazing job transitioning to go to orders. I am very grateful to them for the tasty memories my family could make at home!

Good food. Tried their salmon BLT and it was very good. Steamed clams for the appetizer and a decadent lemon jumbled cake! One of the employees makes it! Good service and reasonable prices.

Lovely simple decor. Prompt friendly service. Smothered Ribeye way overcooked. No garnish; plate looked barren. VERY EXPENSIVE. Over $100.00 dinner for two, with tip and no dessert. This place used to be The Swan Pond, mainly a steak place, also very expensive. Tried and true Scotch and Sirloin just up Rte. 92 in DeWitt is a better bet for similar pricing. My wife and I most likely won't return to Scenic Root.

Nicely redecorated. Service pleasant. Food ok, simple. Higher prices than we expected. No salad included before dinner. Very loud in the dining area in the lower section of the restaurant.

Very nice upgrade to the space with the new ownership. The lighting and light colored wood really brightened it up. The menu looks good, my wife and I sat at the bar for drinks and an appetizer. My wife's dirty martini was not well made. We decided to try the calamari, but I was a bit disappointed in the execution. The dish lacked seasoning and was just bland. Also could have used a lemon wedge to cut through the aioli. All this being said, I know the restaurant just recently opened and is still working out the kinks. We'll definitely try again and hopefully I'll be able to add some more stars on to the review.

I wouldn't recommend the haddock scampi as the haddock was soggy and the sauce tasted more like piccata sauce. My wife had the shrimp scampi with the same experience. Not good combination. However, the service was great, the calamari and chocolate cake we're delicious.

Dinner with my wife and 2 kids. We sat right away just as service was starting to pick up. Service was good and attentive. We kids ate a burger and chicken fingers and enjoyed. My wife had the salmon entree and enjoyed. I had the French onion soup and a burger. Soup was good the burger was disappointing. It lacked pretty much any flavor. It was sans cheese in its purest form (plain). Some may argue that that's why you get a cheeseburger. I disagree. A good burger doesn't need cheese to make it good. This one could have used more salt and pepper before hitting the grill because it seemed to get none. I still enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the service was good. I hope they take this criticism as constructive and improve upon this staple item that can really help their reputation.

We have enjoyed Scenic Root for several years,we were there last Frday, the menu has changed and it has become unappealing, there used to be many great choices from appetizers to the main fare, we were very disappointed. The staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is wonderful as well, sadly we will not be patronizing Scenic Root unless the menu improves.

Let me begin by saying the staff at Scenic Root are awesome. Multiple servers worked well together and service was timely and staff very attentive. Food was another story. Pork dumplings were very good. Fried calamari was supposed to come with cherry peppers and none were to be found in two orders. Calamari was crispy but under seasoned. Dipping sauce was good. Parmesan encrusted haddock was dry and also under seasoned. Cuban sandwich should be renamed. Pork was thick cut tenderloin (also an entree on the menu) and was cold. Also sandwich was not grilled or press which is what makes a cubano sandwich a cubano. Chocolate mousse cake was very good.

The woman supposed to greet guests was not friendly. I asked if I can sit by the window. She impatiently replied those seats had been taken. I hope she could have been nicer. We waited almost 30 min for our food to come. During that time, nobody checked on us. However, when we were about to finish, we were asked 3 times in 5 minutes if we were done with our food. Food is very so so. Will give 0 if that is possible.

Ordered several plates of food including appetizers. Food was disgusting. Calamari was the worst I've ever had, w fried pepper pieces crowding the plate and calamari portion sparse. All of it was soaked and glistening with old fryer oil. The sea bass tacos had absolutely no flavor. They used some mango concoction but the tacos were as bland and flavorless as can be. Mozzarella sticks were ok but only because those come in from an outside food vendor. Hard to mess those up. Overall this was the worst restaurant I've been to in the Syracuse area and I've been to many. Emailed them, received a response from the owner Mike M. Only cares about snagging the cash and running. Offered me nothing in return, no refund, no second chance, nothing. Avoid this place at all costs.

Super dark restaurant. They had run out of their complimentary bread for dinner and when I asked about a substitute they told me I’d have to buy their cheesy garlic bread appetizer. Maybe that’s their way of trying to sell more. The portions are small and everything is overpriced. My medium to medium-well burger came out burnt. Even the bun was black on all four sides. They offered to remake it and the new burger patty came out a little better but the bun was still super burnt.

Looking forward to trying a new place that my wife had both heard good things about. Walked in an we were impressed with the decor. That’s where it ended. I had a steak(roast beef) sandwich and my wife had haddock special. Food was good but nothing more. First server never took drink order. Had to ask after food was brought out and then had to ask for them again. Very disappointed. Last time.

Wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner a few weeks ago. While I think anyone can appreciate the ambience of a quieter, darker restaurant, we were seated at a table that was so dark, we couldn't even read our menus. Rather than lights over every table, the nearest light was on the wall, over the next table away from us. We saw one open table nearby with better lighting and asked if we could move there, but waitress said they were holding it for a reservation, even though it was the same size as the table where we were sitting. We asked about any other open tables, explaining our table was too dark to read the menu. They said we could sit at the bar. We're not too picky, so we gladly relocated to the bar. Bartender asked what we would like to drink. I gave my choice, she said they had kicked that keg, and then before I could come up with a backup choice, she just walked away and started talking to co-workers. After a few minutes of being ignored, it became apparent that "office gossip" was more important than our business... since we hadn't actually ordered anything yet, we walked out and enjoyed a great dinner elsewhere.

I really wanted to like this place since it's a local restaurant and all. I went there last week around 1 pm on weekday for a quick lunch, but it turned out to be a disaster... I never walked out of any restaurants before, but this was the first time I walked out of restaurant in my life so far. My party (party of 3) ordered some of their popular menus and waited and waited and waited... after waiting for nearly 40 minutes, there was no sign of our food coming to our table. To make this situation worse, our waitress never checked on us after getting orders from our table. After drinking water and waiting for more than 40 minutes, we had to walk out. It was very strange and surreal experience. I'm not sure why everyone else around our table got their food - even people who came to this restaurant much later than us. No service, no food, no apologies... it was just a terrible experience.

Not family friendly and do not stick to reservations. We called ahead and they took our name and number, but when they saw our party or 6 consisted of four children they said that they no longer had any space left. When we called and made the reservation they said “we can definitely seat a table of 6”. We haven’t eaten here in a couple of years so decided to give it another try and was shocked how bad the experience was before we even had the chance to sit down. When I talked to the manager he said there was nothing he could do as a full table of 6 people right behind him finished and walked out. He said if we wait another 20 minutes then maybe he could seat us. It would’ve been great if they called us back and told us they gave our table away so that we could plan somewhere else to eat for our family.
