Opinions de Mama Lu's Dumpling House Monterey Park
Are you kidding me — Mama Lu's Dumpling House is the BEST Chinese restaurant in all of LA, and I will absolutely defend that claim. Everything is consistently delicious, always comes out piping hot, and the service is excellent. It’s also incredibly affordable for the quality and portion sizes — we always leave with plenty of leftovers. Our go-to order includes the crispy noodles, coconut buns, siu mai, and the rice cakes, which are absolutely to die for. We’ll definitely keep coming back again and again!
Love!!!❤️ 💕 this food 🥘 just super delicious 😋 Definitely give it a try. I’ve been to 3 of their locations and this one is by far the best one. We ordered the #1 Juicy Dumplings $9.99, #8 Beef wraps $11.99, #71 French style beef tenderloins $17.99, # 38 Soy sauce chow mein $14.99 and #52 Crab and dried scallops with egg white rice $15.99, it was a total of about $78 plus tip. We’ve had a few other dishes during some previous visits and they have all been super tasty. We’ve had the green onion pancakes, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice , Chinese broccoli beef, spicy wontons and a few others that I can’t remember. We love this place but as always different taste buds for different folks. Give it a try you may love it as much as we do. 😊
Yi Kou Fu (Mama Lu’s) has finally opened in Alhambra, and honestly, it was worth the wait. The prices are very reasonable, the dining space is big and comfortable, and the flavors are super consistent. It is perfect for a casual family meal or getting together with friends. We ordered the walnut shrimp, chive pockets, steamed cod, and black pepper beef, and everything was so good. The food tasted fresh, not greasy, and you can really tell it was cooked with care. Overall, such a satisfying meal. Definitely a five-star spot and one I would come back to again.
Absolutely enormous servings of Cantonese and Chinese food. The Yang Chow fried rice and egg tofu dishes are awesome. The eggplant needed some salt, but it was otherwise pretty good. The fried fish was delicious. The menu is so huge and the servings so large for what you pay for that there's no reason not to try something. The food also tastes great reheated as leftovers!
There was no wait time for a party of 2 and the food came out relatively fast and it was delicious. The Spicy Wontons with Pork and Shrimp were good and had a nice kick 🌶. Also ordered the Pork and Crab Dumplings and the name was correct they were really juicy and packed with flavor. Pan fried Dumplings were also nice and crispy. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was my personal favorite. Overall had a great experience with the food and the atmosphere was very pleasant.
It is a gem for anyone craving authentic, flavorful Chinese food. The dumplings here are amazing – especially the soup dumplings, which have a deliciously rich broth and perfectly tender wrapper. The pork and chive dumplings are a must-try too! Beyond dumplings, the scrambled egg with shrimp is actually so good and always hit the spot. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. The restaurant can get pretty busy, especially on weekends, but the service is quick and efficient. The staff are friendly and do a great job even when it’s packed. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Chinatown and craving some delicious, authentic dumplings!
I live in central Florida which is a Chinese food desert. We have Chinese food, but it's awful. This is unfortunate since I come from NY which is known for it's Chinese. I was in LA on business and we came here with a coworker who used to live in the area. I'm very happy to say that this was exactly what I was looking for! There were three of us and we went a little crazy ordering. We had eight different items including pork soup dumplings, fried pork buns, beef rolls, and tons more! It was all fantastic. Service was also excellent, and the facility was clean and well kept. I definitely would recommend if you're looking for solid Chinese. Pro tip: The portions were HUGE! Don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach.
You’re supposed to come here for the dumplings but the other dishes are great. It was just the two of us but we ended up ordering a bunch of other dishes to try out. Hehe. 😉 the beef chow fun hit the spot for me tho, can’t go wrong there. The hunan tofu was really good there. The portions are huge as you see. The service was good and friendly also.

Best Mama Lu's location! Some of my go-to orders are pork chop with pepper salt, beef wrap, and the sautéed string beans
Amazing food, huge portions, great prices! Expect a bit of a wait here. parking in lot or on street
The food here is not only amazing but it’s also very affordable in comparison to other dim sum places. I went with my wife and some family for a total of 6 people. It was about a 30-minute wait time for a table. My wife and I ordered the salt & pepper chicken wings, pork buns, and soup dumplings. All of our food was very very delicious. The service is a bit odd it seems like the waiters can be somewhat impatient or in a rush which is understandable during a lunch rush. However, we were asking for waters and after the 3rd person asked for a water the waiter lowered her notepad and just asked “ok so how many waters here” like she was bothered or annoyed. Again, not that big of a deal especially when the food and prices account for a huge part of Mama Lu’s success. My wife and I ate for $44 including tax and service charge with no drinks just the 3 plates.
The original and the best! No nonsense Cantonese food at reasonable price and the portion is huge! Now that restaurants price has gone up 30% or more and portion shrunk .. this place remain unchanged! Come early or wait in long line if you come at dinner time! Now that the word is out.. it is no longer just Asian that comes here…we actually have leftover to bring home !!!
We ordered 8 items and most of them are good. Beef wrap and the fish are the best, but the salt pepper shrimp wasn't good, feel like they forgot to put any seasoning on. I had Mama Lu in a different location and they gave free refill for Thai tea, but they don't here. Also, the tip was calculated after tax, it is not a big difference but it's better to know.

The food was very tasty and good. It's too bad it's so small and that the restroom is outside.

I had good expectations, because it was my first time getting take out here. I might've had more luck dining in, because my order took very long, I asked one of waitress's standing by, very politely, if my order was ready, yet? She very sternly, even snappishly answered that, "No, its not!" I answered very nicely, okay, thank you, but I've been waiting awhile. She didn't even care to check.. I waited some more & I finally asked the server who took my order; & sure enough my order was already waiting in the back. My food was already cold when I finally got it. The customer service could be more customer- friendly & more efficient, in my opinion.
I don't know authentic Chinese food, but I'm pretty sure this is it. I came with a group so I was able to sample many different dishes. Every dish was family size. Major bang for your buck! The Singapore noodles had a strong curry flavor and a hint of ginger. The noodles were slightly overdone. The coconut buns were next level good. They were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing! The sweet drizzle was out of this world. We ordered 2 plates! The free hot tea was flavorless. The sweet and sour chicken was perfect! Just the right amount of sauce and deep fried to perfection. Delicious! The juicy pork dumplings were horrible. (Could be personal taste) They smelled like wet socks and tasted exactly how they smelled. The atmosphere is not great with an old worn out carpet and tight seating in a less than stellar looking neighborhood. The service was spot on. Great host and excellent fast service made this spot a good touch for many as there are a ton of Asian restaurants in the area, but Mama Lu's was clearly the busiest. Enjoy!

Today, I ordered clams with black bean sauces to go. The wait was 45 minutes even though I ordered before I go there. then, to my surprise—when I got home, open my box of clams—missing at least 10 to 12 clams out of 24 or 25 clams. This businesses have been suited before for Tax issues but now they are shady in stealing my foods. I would not recommend this place for anyone living in San Gabriel valley.

I decided to try the chili oil dumplings and napa dumplings to-go. Unfortunately, the chili oil dumplings were completely flavorless, just a mouthful of oil with no spice whatsoever. I had to add my own seasonings at home to make it edible. To top it off, they didn’t include any soy sauce or chili oil on the side for dipping, which made the dumplings even more bland. And guess what, the chopstick had mold on them lol. So frustrating—definitely won’t be coming back after this.
They forgot my soda 3 times, food was dry, asked for more sauce the waitress gave me a look then, then she forgot forks and gave attitude when we asked for water. The got pissed when no tip was given then said not to comeback again. FINE BY ME FOOD WAS DRY I HAD TO ASK FOR WATER M, ASKED FOR SODA 3 TIMES SODA, ASKED FOR FORKS WHEN WE ASKED FOR WATER FORKS CAME AFTER THE FOOD CAME WE WENT UP TO THE KITCHEN FOR FORKS BAD BEHAVIOR THATS WHY NO TIP!!!!
frist time so disappointed we order 4 dish. the foods r not hots each dish come every 15 minutes not organized with the order soup come later after the chow mein, Scramble eggs with shrimp the order come late less than 5 minute she give us the check rush us to pay i told her i will order more dish to go but her attitude problem are repect we not even finish eating they give us the check to pay without ask all the dish r no tast and cold. i with never come back this location at all .
Food was good but they demanded a tip after they only stopped by once and it was to order. We mentioned tip is voluntary and they said no they needed tip. And not to mention they ran after us to tell us about the tip. I think if you get good service absolutely they deserve it but when no one's comes around to check on you or get refills or ask if we need anything I think the tip should depend on the customer.
