Great food , amazing service it’s clear to see why they have been in business so long .
We were a group of 15 for dinner on Saturday, 3/29/25. They set us up in a private room to accommodate us. From start to finish, the service was excellent and very friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious and well presented. We really appreciate all their hard work. Thank you so very much. Special thanks to Diego!
This place needs a 5star rating .. the pasta was DELICIOUS 🤤… handmade pasta .. the vibe is cozy.. it’s a must ❤️
This gem in Little Italy offers a quaint and legitimately Italian experience. I ate here twice while on vacation. My first dinner here was on the early side at 4:30 and I was surrounded by Italian speaking folks. The four cheese ravioli is homemade and the spaghetti meatballs are handmade by the owner.
This place has a little bit of history! The historical walking tour I was on made a stop by this place and our server told us about the interior mural with his entire family history, before our group was served eggplant parmesan. Lemme tell you: it is a LOT of cheese for one person if you don’t normally eat cheese often already. However, it was very delicious and the cheese pull factor was THERE. Because of the huge portion, I took it home and it was still delicious as leftovers! The sesame bread they give you as an appetizer is also very fluffy and soft, with great sesame flavor.
I was born and raised in Chicago. I decided to eat in Little Italy while visiting NYC for the first time. We ordered 3 entrees so we could sample the goods so to speak. We ordered the Lobster ravioli, bucatini amatriciana, and spaghetti carbonara. While all 3 entrees were absolutely delicious, the carbonara stole the show. I would highly recommend this as a go to spot for authentic Italian American cuisine.
My fiancé and I come here every time we go to NYC and have not been disappointed yet. Last night, my fiancé, mom, uncle and I were in NYC for San Gennero which was extremely busy and we wanted a place to eat. All places were telling us over an hour wait. We went up to this place (which we wanted to go to the most-but assumed it would be a crazy wait due to how good it is) and the owner got the 4 of us in in less than 5 minutes! Service was phenomenal. We had the bruschetta and Clams as an appetizer which NEED to be tried. I got the chicken parm which is a classic here and my family went with lobster ravioli. All the food is what you would expect to have it taste like if you were in italy- authentic. We enjoyed the backstory of the resturant as well as the greeting we got from the two brothers who co-own the place. Joe our server was quick, efficient and didn’t make us feel rushed. We all will be going back to this spot, as usual when we go back down. If you are in little italy and need a place to eat- try this place. You won’t be disappointed. 10/10
Benito One is an exciting place, especially during the San Genero festival with Sal usually out front with his Italian gesture summoning passerbys with his announcement of the best food around. I had the Bow Tie Rabe & Sausage and she had the Shrimp Parmesan for $22 & $33. Not too bad at all. I enjoyed the stuffed mushroom and garlic bread, not included, and left with a small doggie bag. Not too cool, I know. Smile, but I'm not leaving it, so I can have it again. For a date out, it was a good night.
Went here while on vacation and it was amazing. I had a mushroom dish with (penne? Maybe) noodles. I was originally going to get the mushroom ravioli but the waiter suggested the noodle dish, saying it was his favorite. It was very creamy but never got to be too much or overpowering. My mother got a seafood dish: it had scallops, shrimp, and lobster with a really good fresh red sauce and angel hair noodles. I mixed some of her angel hair noodles with the sauce from my dish and It was really good. So if you're partial to long noodles but want a mushroom dish you could probably ask them to substitute the noodles. Our waiter was the spiciest looking guy there, he has really good suggestions and is very friendly.
We ordered a side dish $17 Fried Squid and a main dish $38 Pasta with Seafood (not on menu). Both were excellent! Though the Pasta was made for one person, the portion was large enough for two of us and it contained half of a lobster, lots of shrimps and scallops. Make sure you can finish eating them before ordering. :) I guess they thought we are foreigner and didn't know the tips culture in USA since they put amount of tips, about 17% of our meal, on the receipt. I asked about this and they explained that it was just a suggestion, we can pay what we want for tips.
I suggest the handmade pastas ..we stuck to that menu and were thoroughly impressed..the pappardelle with smoked mozzarella was soooo savory and good ...and the stuffed shells had a bright tomato sauce with amazing stuffing. Didnt have the artichoke pappardelle but my husband liked it
We are staying in New York for the first time and wanted to experience real authentic New York Italian cuisine. This restaurant had it all, good service, super atmosphere, good friendly and attentive staff. Even the other customers added to the authenticity of the evening. The food was very well cooked and had a real traditional homemade taste, perfect! We will remember this place forever.
Great neighborhood place to eat...atmosphere was Little Italy at it's best. Food was like eating at my grandmother's table on Mott Street!
This is a quintessential Little Italy spot that never disappoints. A handful of tables inside and a few more out in the street (in a nice enclosure that was setup during covid, but remains). The sauce is perfectly seasoned and the portions are not tiny. Pasta is cooked to perfection. The owner sits at a table in the back, ensuring all goes smoothly. This is not some fancy high end place, its authentic Little Italy, the way God meant it to be. Nice wine list and not over priced. We'll keep going back, as us our custom.
Wait staff was personable and professional. The fried calamari was perfection. Lightly battered and fried to perfection. Veal was tender mozzarella fresh. A wonderful time at San Genarro Festival and one of the last celebrations of our 25th Wedding Anniversary Year! Thank you Jesus!
Honestly, the best eggplant palm I’ve ever had, so good that I bet the fork! Sorry! This is a must try if you’re in little Italy and you just want a quick meal or a full meal. We came here when we’re on a tour and so happy that this was one of the stops along the way we absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to come back with friends and family.
One of the oldest Italian restaurant in Little Italy Since 1968. I really do respected when i had learned that. I have tried bruschetta as starter and spagetti with meatballs. The sauce was realy so delicious. The owner also very friendly. If you're looking for a real Italian food, you may try here.
Don’t let the scaffolding out front fool you this building isn’t under construction, it’s under delicious. Benito One is one of those rare spots where the food comes out and you forget how to talk for a second. Let’s talk about the lobster ravioli absolutely unreal. Creamy, rich vodka sauce perfectly cooked, and somehow makes you feel like you’re dining seaside in Italy instead of ducking under scaffolding in the city. Everything we ate was incredible, and if you’re lucky, Diego might be sketching in the corner. Sit still long enough and you just might end up immortalized mid bite like it’s a Michelin starred life drawing class. Walk in hungry. Leave full, flattered, and possibly framed.
Absolutely delicious. It was the best shrimp fra diablo I have ever tasted...so far. :) The wait staff is friendly, they speak English and our waiter knows the menu. The place is tiny and during the festival, the restaurant had set up a temporary outside seating area. We opted to sit inside on the hot Sept. Saturday. I highly recommend stopping in for a meal.
Amazing Italian restaurant! The service was good and fast, the waiter is very friendly! The food was straight up incredible, rich and flavorful. Highly recommend!
Greeted very warmly by the staff. The waiter was very amiable. The food came out quickly and tasted amazing. Had the pleasure of having the owner help us out with dessert and provide us with the best cannoli I have every tried. It is a small restaurant with an authentic Italian feel. Make sure to make a reservation, especially for dinner.
This is the best food we’ve had in NYC so far, none the less Little Italy. Wife ordered Osso Buco and said it was the best she ever had. It’s actual veal and not pork like many other offerings. I ordered the meat and cheese lasagna and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The garlic bread is also very traditional and out of this world. This place has an amazing atmosphere and definitely feels Italian. It’s a small and intimate place with fantastic service. One of the servers even draws portraits of the customers! They also offer gluten free pasta choices for those that are looking for an alternative solution but still wants pasta.
After a long day in the city at the end of the night my friends and I went to Little Italy and found this amazing family owned restaurant. The amazing home made pasta lives to its name! “It was amazing” 😋 and the service just made you feel at home! Would definitely go back and recommend!
What a fantastic Italian restaurant! We had porchini risotto and stuffed artichokes. Delicious ! Sorry. I did not take pictures of food. Great place, beautiful atmosphere. The owner James , a real Italian American New Yorker is always there talking to customers. You can also see him in a painting (with white beard ). Super friendly place. Do not miss it !
Last time I ate at a restaurant in little Italy I feel like I fell into a tourist trap that was no better than Olive Garden. My parents told me about Benito One before this trip and I’m so glad they did cuz it was super good. From the calamari appetizer to the crunchy but chewy soft bread and butter it was delicious all around. The chicken parm was a notable stand out and the server/service was top notch. I will definitely be going back to Benito One on my next trip to NYC.
Very authentic little restaurant in Little Italy! The atmosphere is very good, nice menu with lots of options. Our waiter was sweet. Tried the fettuccine alfredo and gnocchi both tasted of very quality ingredients and a filling and warm treat. Right in the heart of a cute street as well, great location! Good pinot noir as well, would definitely go again!
Went to the iconic San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy (our third time) and had such a fun time. We needed to get a snack (right away) and opted for a pizza and a glass of wine. So many places to choose from. Glad we chose Benito One. Pizza and wine did not disappoint. Friendly and fast service. We are New Yorkers and this simple pizza was PERFECT. Enjoy people!
Let me start by saying this ruined me to any other place. I had lasagna, and it was incredible. The service was great, and the atmosphere was perfect. Had some great classics playing. I tried some of the other dishes, and they were incredible as well. The chicken parmesan was some of the best I have ever had. Don't pass this place up. It has history, great food, and great service. See you all next trip.
Lovely experience. Benito One serves up authentic Italian entrees with tastes and flavors that are unmatched. My go-to place to get away & enjoy dining experiences that transport you to a special space, so welcoming and festive with delicious eats. A special shout out to Cristian. Your hospitality was exceptional. Thank you
This is a really good Italian restaurant! The waiters, the owner, the decoration, the music, the atmosphere, the aromas, the surroundings, the menu. You feel like you are in a little town in the south of Italy. The seafood meals are very fresh and tasty, and the pastas and sauces and exquisite. Waiters were really friendly and treated us very well. I would come back every day just to try their different dishes.
We ate at Benito One today and it was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken parmigiana was hands-down the best I’ve ever had — perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. The Alfredo was incredibly rich and decadent, the kind you keep thinking about long after the meal is over. What truly set the experience apart was the service. It was personal, warm, and genuinely amazing — you can tell they care deeply about their guests. From the food to the atmosphere to the hospitality, everything was top-notch. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend Benito One to anyone looking for an outstanding meal.
Traditional Italian restaurant. The pastas tasted amazing and the price is fair. The waiter was awesome, and super nice. The food is made fresh, and comes very hot. We ordered Veal Parm (comes with pasta), penne vodka and gnocchi carbonara. Their carbonara sauce is very well known, and delicious! Strongly recommend!!!
I've been coming here for many years and it gets better every time. The spaghetti aglio olio is to die for, along with everything else. The service was outstanding with great people, and the environment with the rest of little Italy was amazing. Sal is super nice and friendly.
Turkey 🦃 dinner for 3. Really homey & cozy ambiance. Non pretentious & easy going people serving great food. 🥇🥇 I only saw 2 spots serving turkey for thanksgiving on mulberry st. We chose Benito’s for its down to earth vibes. A truly genuine turkey meal with sweet potatoes, gravy, & cranberry sauce 🤩🤩
Very elegant italian restaurant in Little Italy ! Small spot, worth the wait for the great service and delicious food! the espresso martini is VERY strong here. Veal parmesan was delicious, the pasta is great. pizza was a great appetizer to start the course. we shared the pizza and parm and we’re above satisfied and full
In NYC visiting for my birthday I knew I wanted Italian. I also wanted to visit Little Italy. I liked through reviews here and I couldn't find a menu that caught my eye. I came across Benito One and the menu was just what I was looking for. The reviews weren't as high as some of the other restaurants, but we went with it anyway. I am so happy we did. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, very friendly, and gave me a little birthday treat. We started with calamari which was lightly battered. I got the manicotti and ate every bite, the pasta was so light and the marinara was not over seasoned and fresh. My husband got the stuffed veal chop and said it was one of the best things he's ever eaten. My son tried it and said he just wanted a cup of the gravy to drink, lol. We shared a pitcher of the red sangria which was one of the best I've had. If you're having trouble picking an Italian restaurant look no more, THIS IS THE PLACE.
A tiny Italian joint in Little Italy with huge portions and attentive staff. Reservations are definitely recommended here, as the place fills up quick. When we called ahead they were already booked out two days in advance. Upon arrival we were seated promptly by a nice waiter. The menu is expansive with classic Italian dishes. We ordered the spaghetti pomodoro and the penne vodka. The portion sizes were huge, neither could finish even half the plate. The penne was delicious, but the spaghetti sauce was a little too simplistic for our tastes, it could have used more herbs or spices.
The food was good, but I remember it being better last time. The service was adequate for the most part. We did run low on drinks a few times, and had to chase the waiter down several times... But it was also very busy & didn't look like there were many employees working. My biggest complaint is about the cash price. I did the math & calculated what it should've been for the cash discount. The waiter then informed me that it's 4% that's added to the bill if paying with a card... I swear the way the text was worded on the menu, I really thought it was indicating that the menu prices included a 4% overage that would be discounted if paying with cash. I could've misunderstood... But it's also possible the waiter just wanted the extra tip money. Either way, I'm not bent out of shape, just beware of this. To end on a high note, the atmosphere is spectacularly perfect! It's exactly what you expect from a small Italian joint in Little Italy. I'll still definitely go back!
This place was was part of a food tasting tour. This is a smaller foot print Italian restaurant and the kind that has been in business for years on Grandma's ancient family recipes. Place had a good feel with lots of interesting decorations. Very good sauce and looks like it has a lot of options. We had the egg plant dish and was tasty. I will be returning to try thier full menu.....
Tried to walk in on Saturday and was sent away as the waiter said they were booked full and could not accomodate without a reservation. So we booked the next day to go for lunch. I would say this place is a historical gem in little Italy. The entire staff seems to be Italian. I don't think many asians frequent the place as they all looked at my wife and I funny. Again it was like being in a Godfather movie. At one point i think the manager was lecturing his staff angrily in Italian. Instead of taking it negatively, it further enhanced my dining experience! Its as authentic Italian as it can get here! Ok so to the food, the wife ordered the seafood rissoto which was flavorful and delicious. I ordered "The Sicilian" which was a bit salty but was still acceptable. Overall experience I would still give it a 4 star.
I heard good things about the spaghetti and meatballs here and am happy to confirm that they are indeed delicious 😊 It’s a cozy place with a lot of heart, which can be felt through the attentive service and hearty food. Really love the fried calamari - the batter to calamari ratio is perfect. All the food came in extremely generous portions that left me in a food coma afterwards. The veal came with a choice of salad, vegetables or pasta, which can be customized to any sauce+pasta combo. The veal saltimbocca itself was somewhat overwhelming and confusing with its mixture of ingredients. The hard boiled egg seemed unnecessary.
the people are very nice. although some dishes are kind of a rip off. the chicken alfredo is about $23 & its mostly pasta with just a little bit of chicken doesnt even seem like a whole chicken breast is mixed in with the pasta and to add the chicken was an extra $8 and we didnt know until we got the bill so it was $32 total for the chicken alfredo ive had better alfredo
Great restaurant, very cozy. As soon as you walk through the doors you can tell it's a family owned restaurant that has great history. However, is very tight. Tables are almost next to each other and there are tables almost by the bathroom hallway (which is covered by a curtain). Nonetheless part of the charm of the place. The food was served quickly and it was delicious. I would have liked the bread to be warmed up and the butter not to be so cold considering the fact that it was about 32° F outside. I had a lasagna, the sauce was delicious and I wanted more but I ran out of it very quickly, the interior was a bit dry but the flavor was beautiful. We also tried the Carbonara, which was creamy and it had a very soft flavor, it was delightful. I'd definitely love to go back again and try more things in the menu. Definitely recommended.
It was my first visit, and the customer service was excellent. Our server drew our friend and the two of them took a photo with the drawing. As an appetizer, the bruschetta and garlic bread was top tier. There was a variety of dishes to try and I ordered the penne vodka sauce with shrimp. The pasta was delicious as a whole, but I can't say for how the shrimp was prepared. It was jumbo in size, but the head was sliced in half to speed up the cooking process. Regardless, I recommend coming here while in Little Italy.
Good Italian food and very large portions. My partner’s chicken parm was amazing. The bruschetta had tons of tomatoes and was nice and fresh. The bolognese was a bit too buttery for my liking but nonetheless, good pasta. The Caesar salad dressing was a bit different than I’m used to but I still enjoyed it. The decor adds to the charm of this place. I would have liked to come during dinner when it is a little busier. With that being said, another server drew a picture of my partner which was cool! Overall, I would recommend stopping here while you’re in Little Italy!
Lobster raviolis tasted too buttery but were still very good. Lasagna was a bit bland, somewhat homemade reminiscent of childhood. Sidewalk seating on a pedestrian only street really makes a great spot, but the mood was a bit diminished by their dilapidated wooden table top. Most all the food served was brought out very hot, it also gratifying maintained its temperature as it was served in its ceramic cooking pot.
I always go back, the lobster ravioli is the real deal. I just wish they would seat people further away from each other, especially when there’s nobody else in the restaurant. We were the only people in the restaurant, the next party arrived, and they put them right next to us. Food is legit though.
It was a bit of a surprise to find this place, cause usually it’s always a tourist trap. But this place is SO GOOD! While the place is very tiny, is so cozy, Italian and magical. The food served is truly Italian with such nice flavors and quality ingredients. The atmosphere is great with great music and big windows to little Italy. The service is great with excellent recommendations. Definitely would recommend to try the chicken piccata, the Alfredo and of course a delicious Tiramisu!!! Loved it!
This is a tough review because the venue was so dated and unkept - almost gross. The Furnature was also cheap. But the food was amazing and the staff was accommodating and responsive. If you are looking for amazing Italian, and can overlook the ripped table clothes, cheap chairs, dusty decor, etc - this is a great place to eat. (I am curious what the kitchen looks like.)
We were excited to try here and it had gotten great reviews, but we were incredibly disappointed. The quality of the Italian food was less than mediocre and depressing for somewhere in Little Italy. The pasta was quality was like it was out of the bag, instead of tasting like fresh, homemade pasta. The Mushroom Ravioli was downright sickening.
Benito 1 lured us in like a street magician — the manager posted at the door worked his charm and we fell for it. The restaurant itself is very small, which is cozy if you like dining elbow-to-elbow with destiny. Service was actually good, no complaints there. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the welcome. The lasagna and I did not get along — I bravely took two bites before respectfully ending the relationship. Not terrible, not great. Come for the enthusiasm at the door, stay for… something else.
I chose to take my family to Benito One because of reviews of the great food. The restaurant had a good Little Italy vibe but the food was very mediocre. I suggested my cousin get the lasagne because of a review I read about it being amazing. It was substandard, bland and mushy. Lobster ravoli? Bland. The calamari was rubbery. Frankly, when I see the reviews on this place and compare to our food experience, it just doesn't add up. I feel lead astray and that the reviews may be salted.
We were just two people and still got charged 20% gratuity automatically, likely because we’re foreigners. I’m a server myself and I know what good service looks like. Sadly, the food was terrible and the service disappointing. I didn’t want to argue, but this was unacceptable. Hope they improve🤷🏽♀️
Food was horrible. Ordered a Baked Ziti and a Bruchetta. Basically was tomatoes and bread with pasta with tomato paste and ricotta. Overpriced food for shitty meals. Also ordered drinks. For a place that advertises Italian food, they should serve real aperol rather than the fake artificial garbage. Service was also horrible. Server just dropped off the food and ran, maybe think of actually valuing your customers with good meals. Will never be returning. Go anywhere else, $1 slice of pizza is better than this garbage.
Where should I start... The food is probably the worst ‘italian’ I ever had. The lasagna I ordered was some over cooked pasta drowning in watery sauce with some half melted cheap mozzarella. My partner’s veal seemed to be leather covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried into nothingness. Significantly worse than your average high school cafeteria grub, and stupidly overpriced. But somehow that’s not the worst about this place! They seem to be happy to display a doll of Hillary Clinton with a noose around her neck next to the toilet, along with a fine selection of trump fan club gifts of the month. When I complained to the son of the owner we were shouted some rubbish about freedom of speech and promptly kicked out... Ah and Burger King was shooting a commercial on the table next to ours... normal stuff! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
Maybe tell the greasy owner not to stand outside and falsely tell people they will get a free pizza with their meals. When the check came the “owner” was nowhere to be found and the server acted like he knew nothing about his boss spewing bs on the sidewalk. Save yourself some time and stay away from this establishment.
Yesterday, I visited your restaurant during a time when it was not particularly busy. I ordered lasagna and cannelloni, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The food took more than 45 minutes to arrive, and during that entire time, the waiter never checked in with us or offered any explanation for the delay. I eventually had to ask about the status of my order, and only when it seemed that I was about to leave did they bring the cannelloni, followed by the lasagna about 10 minutes later. To make matters worse, when the bill arrived, the waiter attempted to add the tip automatically without asking or informing us, which I found quite inappropriate given the level of service we received. The lack of communication and attentiveness from the staff was very disappointing, especially considering the long wait. I had high expectations for the food, but it was unfortunately quite bland.
We only walked into this place because a guy outside was aggressively inviting us in, telling a story about how his grandmother used to cook here. After tasting the food, I can believe she might have cooked here — a very long time ago — but clearly none of her cooking skills were passed on. The food was horrible. The pasta was completely overcooked, the sauce was a disaster, and overall it felt like food from the cheapest tourist trap, not a proper restaurant in New York. This place may be run by Italians, but with no class or experience in cooking whatsoever. The drinks were just as bad — low-level, poorly made, like something you’d get at a roadside dive. I didn’t even finish mine. I didn’t eat the food either, and the staff showed zero interest in whether we liked anything or not. No questions, no care, nothing. To make it worse, they charged us an extra $20 plus $8 for “excellent service”, which is simply a pure joke, because there was absolutely nothing excellent about the service. Strongly not recommended. Avoid this place at all costs. Total tourist trap.
