Opinions de Burger Joint New York
Access is through Thompson Central Park Hotel lobby through a red curtain. It's a hole in the wall with an eclectic vibe. Don't be fooled by the casual fast food type service. Burger joint burgers are probably the best I've ever had. They are a bit pricey about 24 bucks but they are also a good size. I had the double cheeseburger and had a hard time finishing it.
Exactly What You Want When You Just Need Good Food If you’re looking for a quick, simple, tasty spot to grab a bite, Burger Joint is absolutely the place. The menu is gloriously straightforward—cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, fries—and honestly, that’s all you need. The burgers aren’t smash burgers (thankfully), so you actually get real, juicy meat instead of those crispy little brown shards pretending to be beef. The chicken sandwich is fantastic, and the chipotle sauce on it is next-level good. Fries? Hard to mess up, and they nailed them. There’s plenty of seating, the staff was friendly and fast, and they even joked with us about my son’s Notre Dame hat—painful topic this year, but I loved the personal touch. The bathrooms are part of The Thompson hotel, which means they’re shockingly clean and actually nice… rare for NYC. Some people complain about the prices, but come on—it’s New York. If you want a cheap burger, there’s a McDonald’s somewhere with your name on it. This is good food at a fair NYC price. The atmosphere is super low-key, music going, and you can even sign the walls or slap a sticker up—bring a sharpie if you want to leave your mark. Overall, a great place to eat—especially when other spots (looking at you, Papillion) prioritize tour buses over the people actually waiting in line. 😉 Go check out that review next!
Best hamburger I’ve had in NYC so far. The quality of the meat is excellent—juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is fun and classic, and the servers were very nice and welcoming. The fries weren’t the best I’ve had, but honestly, this place is all about the burger. It would be even better with more topping options or extra side sauces. Overall, a really solid spot and I’ll definitely be coming back. 🍔🔥
This was the first place that I went to when I arrived in NYC. First of all locating the restaurant feels like an insiders secret. You enter through an unassuming hotel lobby, make a right, push through the red curtain at the top of the stairs and there you have burger joint. No frills, cash only, quality burgers. Ended up taking quite a while to get our food, but that gives you time to find a seat. To say it’s competitive for that is an understatement. I loved this place and it ended up being one of my favorite meals of the whole trip. Cannot recommend enough.
You’ve found it! This place is so good! Bit hard to find, as there are not any signs on the street or inside the hotel. When you walk inside One One 9, look to the right and you’ll see stairs with red curtains… (see photo) The staff is extremely friendly. The burgers are simply perfect. No frills, just perfect execution. The fries may remind you of a popular golden arched establishment, but slightly better! Bring your marker to write on the walls and enjoy!
Great burger place, with a cool atmosphere and incredibly delicious food. The service is friendly and fast, and the burgers are to die for! The fries and milkshake are very good, too. The price is quite high, but 100% worth it, both for the deliciousness and the experience. Highly recommended!
Unusual positioning of this burger joint. In the lobby of the Thompson Central Paek but u go behind the curtains up the stairs as if it’s a secret place. The dining room with NYC graffiti is its best selling points. $15 for normal burger. Could have been a whopper but size wise it’s a few mm smaller. No table service. Just like fast food - u order and they shout your name for pickup. Just do once for the experience.
Although no longer as hidden as it once was, the burgers and shake at burger joint were excellent. My complaint though is that it was extremely expensive for what it was. 13 dollars for a milkshake is very hard to justify. The food was great but had it not been in our hotel, I would not pay again for this meal because of the pricing.
Delicious grilled burgers made to order with a grungy & clandestine atmosphere. A bit pricey considering it’s a “fast food” environment however the food quality is above average. The Pilsner draft beer accompanied the burger well & the sweet potato fries were a welcome change. To enter, you must go behind a red curtain inside the Thompson Hotel ground floor.
The burger was good but nothing spectacular that the hype would warrant (lines out the door in the weekend). The prices seem way too high and have increased 50% and $2.25 to add each topping (like jalapeños etc) seems quite a bit too much considering other $26 burgers such as the one at Emily’s which is leaps and bounds better. Otherwise great atmosphere ands nice folks. The best thing I heard was an employee saying the quiet part out loud which was “I’ve never seen an $8 rice crispy, that’s wild” Again, tasty burger and food and nice people and cool vibe but the prices are a large deterrent and don’t correspond to quality in this case
The location is undeniably impressive, nestled within a luxury hotel and blending elegance with a unique street vibe. However, the experience is heavily advertised, with many YouTubers promoting it, leading to high expectations. Unfortunately, the reality doesn’t quite live up to the hype. While the setting is beautiful, the high prices are a major drawback. A simple meal can easily exceed fifty dollars, which feels disproportionate to what’s offered. The burger, though decent and crispy, is often overshadowed by overpowering raw onion, and the fries are merely average. The long waits, especially during peak seasons, coupled with the steep costs, make it difficult to justify a return. Ultimately, the charm of the location and the hype don’t quite compensate for the underwhelming value and the excessive price, leaving the overall experience somewhat disappointing
Cool vibe and atmosphere. Burger was undercooked. Receipt said medium, but I was never asked what temp I wanted and it was too red for me. Flavor was fine but no better than many other hamburger places. “Roseann” behind the counter was extremely rude. After dropping $89 on 4 hamburgers, one fry and 2 cokes, she wouldn’t even give me a cup of water. One and done type of place for sure. Wouldn’t recommend.
I got a double cheese burger (26$), fries (10.50$) and drink (6.50$). I remembered it not this expensive. Still wanted to try. Food was okay. They expanded the space, and it is much brighter than it used to be. The vibe is different from hideout basement kitchen to a picnic style beer garden in alley way. I remembered it as tasting so so good, something is gone. If you are going back there because it used to taste good, I wouldn’t recommend you.
I finally checked this place out, but honestly, I don’t understand the hype. Once you get behind the famous red curtain, there isn't actually anything interesting back there, this felt more like a basement with graffities. As for the service? There is no service, the staff is pretty indifferent, and they served red wine in a plastic cup. The food? My double cheeseburger was ok.
I’d seen this place in so many videos where people recommended it like it was a must-visit. Honestly, I have no idea why. The burger was the most tasteless, saltless one I’ve ever had, and the price was absolutely insane for what we got. The staff weren’t friendly either, and to top it off, you can’t even use the washroom just to wash your hands even after paying $22 for a burger. If I could go back in time, I would never have stepped foot in their restaurant. Definitely won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Overhyped place and popular among tourists, I should have just sticked to the old time favorites Shake Shack and 7th Street Burgers. Having said that, it’s a new experience. Being a local, we try and we avoid if it dissatisfies you. I don’t want to mislead people, but avoid this place. It’s crowded, no one cleans the table, you’d seat on a catsup on the chair, lettuce on the table, or sleeves will catch mayonnaise if you eat and lean on the table. Look first before you seat. The patties were unfresh, buns were ordinary, McDonald’s has better fries, and mass produced sweet potatoe fries. Nothing is fresh but lettuce and tomatoes. You’ll eat and speed away because tourists will be like hawk eyeing your table, approach you and wait next to you, watching your every chew and silently asking to go now so it’ll be their turn to seat.
Horrible place. It is only cool looking. But it is super hard to find. It is inside another business. So you jave to go inside to ask where it is. Then as a Latino myself, I thought the Spanish guy in there was being nice, and he actually over charged us. We paid about $150, when Google says $20 to $30 dollars. And tot think we passed so many street businesses during one of those NY fairs, when they close the street for vendors. Just to be conned at this place. NOT WORTH IT‼️ Wendy's burgers are better.
