My 9 year old daughter and I had dinner for her birthday and we were sat in a cozy corner table looking out at Radio City. We had mocktails, shrimp cocktail, steak and fish for dinner. Then the olive cake for dessert. Lovely atmosphere and great service.
Came here for my anniversary. Was very delighted with the service and the special attention to our personal celebration. Our server was hospitable and knowledgeable and the overall atmosphere made for a wonderful dinner.
We loved the entire experience. The greeters were warm and welcoming . Our waiter was great and attentive . The food was delicious. We sat outside for the warmth and ambiance. The street was busy as you will imagine but not too noisy to interrupt our experience. I’ve also worked with the team to plan a clients celebration in one of their private rooms. It was a great experience as well. Everyone was helpful, accommodating and polite.
Avra was an exceptional dining experience. The atmosphere is elegant, spacious, and spotless, with a beautiful setting that makes it perfect for a special anniversary dinner. The service was attentive, friendly, and professional from start to finish. For our meal, we ordered the Chilean Sea Bass Plaki, which was oven-baked to perfection with Vidalia onions, potatoes, herbs, and a light tomato fish broth—absolutely flavorful and comforting. We also had the Faroe Islands Salmon, charcoal grilled and served with grilled vegetables, and it was cooked beautifully and tasted incredibly fresh. To finish, we shared the famous 16-layer chocolate cake, and it did not disappoint rich, decadent, and so good. Avra truly delivers delicious Mediterranean seafood with a refined yet welcoming experience. Highly recommend.
Everything was delicious at Avra Rockefeller Center. It was the perfect pre NYC Marathon dinner with a great ambiance, excellent food, and attentive service. We loved the complimentary hummus , peppers , olives and pita bread to start, which was a lovely surprise. We then shared the classic spreads, followed by the halloumi with grilled orange, honey, and sesame. The Greek salad was outstanding, especially the tomatoes, which were incredibly fresh and flavorful. For mains, we had the roasted Mediterranean chicken with lemon roasted potatoes, and it was excellent. A truly satisfying and well balanced meal. Five stars. Highly recommend for a special night or a great pre race dinner
Avra is always a favorite of mine, and this visit was extra special since I came here to celebrate my birthday. I’ve been here many times and the food is consistently amazing. The tiger prawns never miss, and I always have to order the lobster pasta and finish with the chocolate cake. The hummus with the soft pita bread is also delicious (just be careful not to fill up on it before your main dishes!). The staff truly made this visit memorable — they were incredibly patient and kind, especially while I was taking pictures, and really went out of their way to make the experience feel special. Between the incredible food, attentive service, and beautiful atmosphere at the Rockefeller Center location, it was the perfect place to celebrate. I can’t recommend Avra enough and will definitely keep coming back. 🫶🏽
Great experience at Avra Rockefeller Plaza! Everything from the atmosphere to the food was outstanding. The service truly made the night—our waiter, Luke, was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. He made excellent recommendations and ensured everything was perfect from start to finish. A wonderful dining experience in the heart of the city. We’ll absolutely be back! I wish I took photos - was too busy enjoying the experience.
Delicious food and excellent service. They of course have ’catch of the day’ sold by weight but also a very good ’a la carte’ menu. We were there for a business dinner and the only drawback is the restaurant is large, bustling and quite noisy. But that is New York. Pretty pricey but again that is quite normal for locations in this area. We all had seafood and it was good. Friendly wait staff.
Pretty much the best service we've ever had at a restaurant in a very long time. Every server, host, waiter was super warm and attentive -- food was delicious -- atmosphere was lovely. Just a top notch experience, delivered by some of the most charming gentlemen!! Wanted to try it all but unfortunately were rushing off to the theatre for a performance. We had the vegetable chips with what was the most amazing tzatziki type dip, steak, lobster pasta (wow), beet salad (oh my!) and salmon. Wanted to try some of the market fish (those massive prawns!!!!!) and the ice cream that is prepared to order but unfortunately didn't have enough time. Have to thank Nick (I may have forgotten your name; sorry my brain is aging!!!) and downstairs Maitre-D for impeccable service and charm. Will come back again soon xx
We had a wonderful dinner at Avra Rockefeller Center. Everything was delicious, and the oysters were so fresh. The atmosphere felt elegant but relaxed, and the service was perfect. They even had a non-alcoholic red wine that we really enjoyed, which made the evening even better. Definitely a place we’d love to come back to.
Let me start by highlighting the restaurant in itself, the decoration, the lighting and the setting, as well as the outdoor sitting area are a resemblance to Greek cuisine and culture. The atmosphere and the people also made Avra a great place for a celebration, a romantic dinner or just a night out with friends. Our server, Ernest was very helpful recommending and highlighting dishes from the menu. The complementary Hummus with Pita, was delicious and creamy. We had the grilled Branzino, by the pound, side order of asparagus, roasted beet salad and the fish soup. Our friend had also the grilled Swordfish. The Avra rosé wine was light and fresh. To top it all off, for dessert, we had the newly added “Butter Cake,” you have to try it, cannot describe the satisfaction. You cannot go wrong picking this restaurant, they are amazing.
Absolutely loved this place! The food was delicious and fresh, and the restaurant itself was spotless and very well kept. The servers were super friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. To top it all off, we were surprised with two complimentary desserts, which was such a thoughtful touch. Overall, a wonderful dining experience — I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone!" 🩷🌸
Absolutely delicious! We started with the octopus appetizer, which was perfectly cooked—tender and not at all chewy. For our main course, we had the Dover sole meunière with a side of broccoli. The fish was outstanding, and the meunière sauce was light and delicate, complementing it beautifully. For dessert, the olive oil cake was a standout—moist, flavorful, and an absolute must-order. Our waiter was fantastic and spot-on with every recommendation. A wonderful dining experience from start to finish!
Excellent food! I ordered a mojito, the Classic Spreads (Melitzanosalata, Htipiti, and Tzatziki), the grilled octopus, and the fish soup. Everything tasted very fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was clean and modern — I loved the light, airy feel. Service was very friendly. I highly recommend!
A strange mix of fusion between Greek foods that picks up some Japanese styles of serving food. Reason- extremely fresh seafood that works both cooked (like their beautiful plump scallops) and crudo. However, I will take away points as the Greek specific dishes I found somewhat lackluster in execution and flavor. The deserts were also somewhat disappointing, but again it is fine since clearly the focus is on fish.
This was okay! Was it pricey? Yes. Was it perfectly good? Also yes. You will enjoy your food but it won’t be spectacular like you’re expecting for the price you’re paying. I will say, the atmosphere and service is very good. If you want to spend a much of money for that, then this is your place.
I’ve been coming to Avra for so many times before and today was not the best experience. We’re been served by 4 different servers, that we totally got lost who is our server. The music for brunch time was super super loud, we also been sitting right under speakers so usually it’s nice and relax but today it’s been changing many times during 1 hour. And no one brought us anything for my sister birthday- at least a scoop of ice cream and a candle would be nice. The place was not so busy, and food took quite a while to arrive same as drinks and coffee as well. We got 2 lattes and received 1 cappuccino and 1 latte. And food was barely warm. I work in hospitality industry as well and maybe I’m just paying too much attention to those details. But they truly matter.
I've been going to the other Avra locations for years. Never been to the Rockefeller location until recently. Service was great. They no longer have the amazing Mussels with tomato feta broth that I came specifically for. The octopus appetizer was really disappointing. Not great quality and not well prepared. The fried zucchini and eggplant chips were good as usual. The small fried Barbounia fish was very good. Our Entree fish was one of the more expensive selection from the Mediterranean and was kind of mediocre. I wonder if because it's in a more touristy area if they are pushing the less desirable or less fresh fish. The baklava dessert was very good. Overall a meal for 2 adults and a small child with no alcohol was almost $500 including tax and tip. Avra has always been one of my favorite restaurants but I not really enthusiastic about returning.
We visited Avra attracted by its reputation and its Mediterranean cuisine concept in New York. To start with the positive aspects, the restaurant itself is very beautiful: elegant, well decorated, and with a pleasant atmosphere that makes you want to relax and enjoy the space. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not live up to the expectations one would have for a restaurant of this level. We began by ordering two appetizers. Only the hummus arrived, and honestly, it was not good and lacked flavor and quality. The second appetizer, a Greek salad, never arrived and we had to remind the waiter more than once. It finally came at the very end, after a long wait. When I tried it, I found it strange that it was served with only a small piece of goat cheese. Typically, a Greek salad comes with several pieces of feta cheese or a much more generous portion, which was clearly missing here. We then ordered two main courses. We also requested that a glass of white wine be served when the second dish arrived so it could properly accompany the meal. The wine never came. I mentioned it again, but by that time I was already finishing my plate, so I decided to cancel it. These kinds of details really impact the dining experience, especially at a restaurant that aims to provide attentive and high-quality service. It is a shame, because the restaurant has a lot of potential, but the service felt disorganized and the food did not surprise me or justify the expectations or the prices. With better service coordination and more attention to detail, the experience could be much better.
I’ve been to Avra twice this week, and overall the food is genuinely very good. The menu is attractive, the pricing is fair for the quality, and the lamb chops are truly amazing. However, it’s a real pity that the human side doesn’t match the culinary one. Just one day after dining there, I happened to walk past the restaurant and needed to use the restroom — yet I was refused because I didn’t have a reservation that day. This, despite having eaten there twice earlier in the week. It really felt like the priority was turnover and money rather than caring about loyal clients. Disappointing to see such little human connection in an otherwise excellent restaurant experience. Just a chain like any others… what matters and make a difference is details
