Cute little spot with excellent service and food. Has indoor/outdoor seating with a cute room downstairs. Everything was soo good and yummy as we enjoyed octopus, claims, steak, chicken, and egg tarts. All were delicious- defs spicy as well but all prepared great. My favs were the oculus and egg tarts. Had the most amazing lunch at Leitao. We had the suckling pig feast, which was itself delicious, but honestly I think that all the sides + appetizers we had were my favorite part! I’m itching to go back.

This is a super overdue review, but this place is absolutely unbelievable. My partner and I are both of Portuguese heritage and were visiting New York in January for a week. I thought that as it was one of the very few Portuguese spots in Manhattan, we’d give it a go. In summary, it was so good we went twice and have rebooked a trip this coming January and plan to go again. I have a lot of family from the north of Portugal, and the francesinha was to die for. It was the most authentic one I’ve had outside of the very north of Portugal, and I cannot recommend it enough. We also had the octopus salad, the fava beans, bacalhau balls, a load of pastel de natas (also the best ones I’ve ever had), and definitely some other bits we haven’t mentioned. If you’re looking for great food, a really good vibe/aesthetic and unparalleled service, then get yourself down there. Our server/bartender and the owner, Nuno, made our experience very special. Thank you to Leitao for their generosity and amazing food. We can’t wait to return this January.

This place! ❤️ it was such an amazing experience! Me and my friends needed to wait for a table and they served champagne to us. It was incredible! We met Dario and the service was fantastic. I visited this restaurant 2 times, tried to order different dishes. Everything I tried here is amazing, my fav prob their octopus (the best octopus in NYC) and clams. Recommend to come here with friends, so you can order more things and share it 🫶🏻

Today while meandering about the West Village we had the amazing fortune to happen upon Leitao! We had no idea of the culinary masterpiece that would ensue! The space is welcoming, sultry and well-appointed. The traditional Portuguese menu is replete with amazing selections to suit every taste and one is instantly aware of the deliciousness to come by the phenomenal aromas wafting through the space We began our meal with the Cucumber Margarita and a Gin and Seltzer with cucumber and lime. We then ordered the Shrimp in Lobster Sauce accompanied by the truly PERFECT Portuguese bread. The shrimp were tender, skillfully prepared and enveloped in a complex, silky, slightly smokey, lobster sauce. A really spectacular start!! Next we ordered the Piri Piri Chicken and the Bacalao. Beyond the gorgeous presentation of these dishes, the flavors outperformed all expectations!! The ample portion of chicken was layered with authentic smoky, spicy and bright flavor..juicy and falling off the bone! The Bacalao, which I am not always a fan of, was OUTRAGEOUSLY DELICIOUS!! This beautiful fish was tender and flaky with a perfect sear on top. It is served over a bed of sauteed spinach, elegantly dressed in a bright lemony sauce and topped with crispy and crave-able fried onions I could have eaten by the bowl-full!!! And just when we thought it could not get better…our amazing attendant,..delighted us with an order of the Pasteis de Nata for dessert. I've never tried it before but can assure you if I ever see this on a menu it is a priority order!!! The delicate custard tart is subtly sweet and sprinkled with cinnamon and a dusting of powdered sugar. The texture is smooth and creamy and the taste is warm, soft and unbelievably satisfying. Leitao deserves more than 5 stars in my honest opinion. The atmosphere, service and food are truly TOP NOTCH. Run, do not walk, because this should be on top of your must-try list!

This was my second time at this restaurant! As a Portuguese, I can confidently say this is authentic Portuguese food. The dishes are delicious, the portions are generous, and they have a great selection of Portuguese wines. Nuno (the owner) is always warm and welcoming, as is the rest of the staff. Highly recommend this place!

Visited Leitao last weekend to celebrate my birthday with their signature Portuguese suckling pig (for which the restaurant is named). In short - the pig was underwhelming, but everything else was excellent. Even the sides that came with the pig were good. If you are considering the pig save your money and double down on the regular menu and/or drinks. To elaborate, the pig came and the presentation was really beautiful. Unfortunately much of the skin was v hard and/or leathery - not crunchy/crispy - so nobody really ate it and it was hard to remove from the legs etc. because we couldn’t cut through it. The meat itself was tasty but a bit dry so I think the whole thing just got over cooked trying to crisp up the skin. They poured a really tasty sauce over it when served, but the sauce was cold so the meat got cold quickly, though it helped to moisten and flavor it - would be awesome if they served it in a separate dish we could pour ourselves (or just drink it straight mmm) I ended up bagging the leftover pig up and throwing the whole thing in a slow cooker for a wonderful albeit expensive stew when I got home. On the positive side, the staff were awesome - very friendly, attentive, and I suspect they noticed the pig wasn’t a home run because they brought a complimentary dish to try which we loved. Things we loved: Pork ribs Beef in mushroom sauce - so so good Codfish croquettes fava bean mash I would absolutely go back for those items, but would not repeat the suckling pig. Overall a wonderful ambiance, staff, and food. Thank you for having us!

Food was edible I liked the shrimp with lobster sauce with only 3 shrimp though. I also liked the seafood rice. Overall, I had better Portuguese is food in Portugal, of course. It’s nice to have something a little different. This place is pricey though with 20% tip added to the bill.
