Opinions de La Bonbonniere Albee Square
Great food all around. Obviously don’t expect anything mind blowing, but you get what you pay for and it’s delicious and worth stopping by if you’re in the area.
Great breakfast spot for quick, simple but tasty food! Great portion sizes too and very filling. You can customise orders easily and they were happy to make changes. Great vibes and a nice change from all the flashy places around town. Would highly recommend a visit.
I’ve been Deployed to Poland, Romania, Germany, Cuba and Korea- and even with my travels I’ve never been able to experience the Classical Home Style Breakfast that this place can provide. Every Deployment ends with coming home and having breakfast here.
You aren’t going here for the atmosphere. You’re going here because it’s one of the best staples in New York City for breakfast and a quick lunch. Be prepared to bring cash as they only take cash and be friendly to the staff as they’re handling a lot.
Great coffee and Real diner experience. Please note is cash only. One ep. Of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” was filmed here and the nostalgic NYC vibes of the place explain why! I think this is a must if you’re planning to visit the West Village.
This has been on my list for a looooong time. It did not disappoint. I always love finding what I consider relics of NYC. Places that allow a peak into what this city used to be like. La Bonbonniere shows that these places are still around. New York can still be that way. I got an amazing spinach tomato feta onion omelette with home fries. Diner food done right. No bells and whistles, just straight up good eating. Support cash only businesses!!!
My family and I went to NYC for a family vacation and we stumbled across La Bonbonniere. We were looking for more like a home cooked breakfast which this place was. The food was great it brought back memories of the old small restaurant that I used to go to in Buffalo for breakfast. The staff was great and friendly they told us how the owner started the business and he’s still there today working . It’s definitely a small place but I prefer that I would definitely go back
Quintessential New York diner experience. I got there early at 7 a.m. and there was ample seating available. The restaurant has nice window scenery of Chelsea and there’s outdoor seating too. Friendly (but not overly-intrusive) servers give you exactly what you want and leave you in peace the rest of the time. Super generous menu that provides lots of options and all the diner classics. Delicious coffee. Had an excellent lox bagel. Nothing negative to say, I imagine it’s looked exactly this way for 20 years and the price probably hasn’t changed all that much since.
After an early 7 AM arrival from Vancouver, our first stop in the Big Apple for breakfast was the legendary La Bonbonniere located in the West Village. This spot had been on my list ever since I recognized it as "The City Spoon" from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (seasons 1 & 2 for fellow fans!). We arrived around 8:45 AM on a Friday morning, and as expected for a classic New York diner, all the tables were full. We snagged seats at the bar, which gave us a front-row view of the incredibly busy staff - taking orders, cooking, and preparing everything with lightning speed. It was exactly the bustling, authentic diner experience I'd hoped for. We fueled up with a hearty vegetarian omelette (packed with veggies, a big win!), along with tea and coffee, and a classic NYC bagel with cream cheese. It was the perfect, satisfying meal to kick off our New York adventure. CASH is only accepted as method of payment.
I’ve been a customer for 20 years. Nothing feels as classic or tastes as good at La Bonbonniere. The same staff has been here forever. The French Toast is the best in the world. And the lemonade is made with a milk shake machine and nothing tastes quite like it. I dropped my fork today and it was replaced instantly. The staff really pays attention and takes care of you.
La Bonbonniere: A Hidden Gem with a Celebrity Touch Don't let the shabby exterior fool you! La Bonbonniere is a charming little diner with a surprisingly delicious menu and a friendly atmosphere. Our waiter, Juan, was incredibly attentive and made us feel welcome from the start. We enjoyed a hearty breakfast of French toast, burgers, fries, and chili beans, all of which were cooked to perfection. The coffee was strong and flavorful, just the way we like it. While the diner may not be the most glamorous place in town, it has a certain charm that's hard to resist. The pictures of celebrities like Ethan Hawke on the walls add a touch of history and intrigue. If you're looking for a no-frills, delicious meal in a cozy setting, La Bonbonniere is definitely worth a visit.
I am a native New Yorker who has walked past this place a thousand times, but never eaten there, for a variety of reasons. No time, no money, too crowded. Today, the stars alligned, and I could and did. While I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit this famous but affordable establishment, I wish to pass on the message that they should update the menu prices on their Google listing. I took pictures of the current menu and a couple of snapshots of the interior. Obviously, the outdoor dining area, the shed on the street taking up valuable potential parking spaces, is a pandemic era addition. Yes, the interior of the original building is really that small, even smaller but slightly wider than the former Moonstruck Diner. (The real Moonstruck Diner was not big enough to do a song-and-dance movie sequence in, the wait staff had to turn sideways to walk between the cafe tables and the counter, and it was never as clean as the movie set.) Don't get me wrong, I have no complaints about the food or the service at La Bonbonniere, it is what it is, but please inform the public about the current prices on your profile.
I don't know what to say. This is exactly the type of place I like to try. First of all.. cash only.. not a complaint just something to know if you go. My husband liked his food a lot. We both liked our coffees. It really isn't the cleanest. And I do take issue with creamer that is just left out on tables all day for each party. But my main issue is that in spite of my deep love for corned beef hash of all kinds (canned, fresh).. what was on my plate was the one an only hash in history that I couldn't bring myself to eat after the first bite. Just terrible. I'm so sorry because the service is really friendly.
Sigh. First time at this place and will be my last! (The food) breakfast wasn't anything that made me want to will return, Coffee was just plan dirty water nothing special and it's given in a go coffee cup thought that was pretty weird Pancakes bland no real effect just throw the blueberries in it which was a bit too much, side of ham tasted funny and eggie I don't like eggs and it was cooked on the same grill which I'm not a fan of at all! Inside the place needs a major cleaning everything old depressing ugly and just felt dirty like I'm sitting in a unclean apartment or dinner gathering! Sitting in the park would have been more satisfying, Staff was okay nothing I would say I felt generally a warmed vibe or energy that wanted me to come back just dull. I'm not sure how this is a place that people speak highly about with great food breakfast options, can't imagine how other dishes would be? I have been too better diners with way better food and a clean establishment I like trying new places to eat but this was a let down.
Poor experience, even though I had fond memories of the place a few years back. Service was not friendly, coffee was tasteless and served in a disposable cup. The toasts were cold, potatoes hardly warm, and the sausages tasted weird. The eggs were very well cooked. Definitely not worth the steep price.
