Decadent and delicious food. Very intense flavors, lots of complexity, heavy. The carbonara was the best I've ever had. I enjoyed the octopus because of its flavor, though the texture was just fine. The brand and salad it comes from were pretty tasty, though they felt more like a separate side to the octopus and not an integral part of the dish. The portion sizes are good for sharing, not small. It was nice seating at the bar by the kitchen, though the noise of the bartenders constantly knocking bottles and glasses and chucking ice and used bottles in the container by my feet got annoying fast. The dim lights and compact setting are cost, but the music is way too loud for normal conversation. I would go back, and I'd like to try more food.
We came here for an anniversary dinner and truly the staff made the night memorable with their kind words. The food was phenomenal! I especially liked the chef's special for the night, which was brown butter gnocchi. We ended the meal with the crumb cake and I can not imagine a better way to end the experience. Shout out to our server Tatiana who continually checked on us and really made the night special. Photos are from my gf.
I was so happy that they reopened in the West Village and got to celebrate our anniversary there. Food was as amazing as I remember. We got the burrata and asparagus to start, spaghetti with pesto and burrata (so delicious w pieces of nuts and a citric touch) and the carbonara which is still the best carbonara around. My only comment is that we were seated on a table for 2 in the back room and there was a table for 3 next to us and a table for 8 behind and basically were locked in for the dinner with no room to move, even for New York felt too crowded.
Excellent spot for dinner, service was awesome with chef/owner checking in on us throughout the meal. The purple rain and kumquat mojito were 🔥
I was fortunate to have lived at Gotham West because Dell'anima was literally downstairs at Gotham West Market. I've been a fan ever since they served their first dish there and the greatness continues at their new location. We got the Charred Octopus, Endive salad, and Bucatini Arribbiata. Delicious. The vibes and service were great and we can't wait to be back again!
Service was excellent to match an equally amazing menu. Tira misu was out of this word as was every other dish we are
Perfect place to go if you have a toddler yet still want nice restaurant quality food. We set up a high chair at a plain table for 4 in what's basically a food court. That to us is a benefit because we didn't have to worry about it being too nice for a child. The food was great. Just as good as a snooty white tablecloth restaurant with judgemental waiters. Our favorite is the Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese.
This cozy pasta spot is a gem! Every dish, from the perfect focaccia flatbread to the tender octopus and all the handmade pastas, was simply exquisite. You can taste the freshness and passion in every bite, making it an unforgettable, comforting meal. (Y me atendieron muy bien, en español)
Dining at Dell'Anima is an experience that transcends the ordinary. Nestled in a cozy yet vibrant space, this gem offers an open kitchen concept where the magic unfolds right before your eyes. The chefs, with their infectious enthusiasm, not only craft dishes to perfection but also generously share their culinary secrets, making the meal as much about learning as it is about savoring. The wine selection, though modest in size, is impeccably curated to complement the equally concise but exquisite menu. Every sip feels like a carefully considered pairing, enhancing each bite. I indulged in my go-to favorites: the bolognese, a rich and hearty classic, and the grilled octopus, perfectly tender with just the right char. My partner explored with the endives, a refreshing and crisp starter, followed by the branzino, a delicate yet flavorful dish that was a true testament to the chefs' skill. Dell'Anima’s ability to deliver excellence through simplicity is unmatched. Every plate, every glass, and every interaction feels intentional and warm. For anyone who values the intimacy of dining as much as the flavors on the plate, this is a must-visit. Truly outstanding!
This place is a gem in Gotham West Market. The octopus is absolutely delicious. I’ve been here frequently over the past two month. The Chef is awesome, great service, wonderful selection of Italian wines. I’m hooked!
This place is amazing. The pasta is cooked perfection. Only other place I have had better pasta was in Rome. The Carbonara is amazing, so is the grilled octopus.
Chef Andrew and his team put down a spectacular tasting menu with a spot on beer pairing and what they are putting down, I’m picking up! Very coherent vision in every aspect from service to plating to all of the amazing flavors. Loved it. Definitely coming back soon.
This place is so underrated! Pasta is made with quality! We ordered the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, Pappardelle integrale and the Carbonara. Everything was delicious! My personal favorite is the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese! The pasta was perfect and al dente! The sauce was simple yet divine! You will not regret ordering this!
One of the best meals I've ever had!! Tagliatelle Bolognese was next level!
I had a great dinner last night at Dell’anima, Chef Andrew Whitney’s counter Italian restaurant. It was a fabulous experience. More then anything, I felt like being hosted at chef Andrew’s own kitchen. The food was fabulous, the Vibe great. Chef Andrew, with an Anthony Bourdain flipping a bird T Shirt, couldn’t be more appropriate. Had I not (sadly) known better, I would expect Mr Bourdain sitting in the counter next to me. Wonderful food, great vibe. A hidden gem with a real New York State of mind. I totally loved it 😊
I came here 2,3 years ago with my family and loved it! They have by far the best carbonara in NYC - no oversell! Everything we had today was amazing and the chef and crew are extremely polite and attentive… would absolutey recommend this hidden gem…
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! The head Chef is so damn serious about food! THAT, is clear in the way he treats the ingredients. Once I ordered food, and since they’re familiar with me (as a frequent visitor 😂) He waited for me to arrive to prepare the food fresh for me. I FELT LIKE A KING! That small detail can make a customer’s day! I’ve had the Octopus (multiple times), the branzino, and the Pappardelle Integrale (at least 6 times). There’s never been a time that I’ve been disappointed with the food. I have devoured every dish I’ve ever ordered from DELL’ANIMA.
An absolute gem of a location. This little italian place is a part of the Gotham Market food hall. We had a couple of pastas and an eggplant dish - all of which were quite amazing! Great stop for a solid Italian meal.
Carbonara was delicious. The pasta was homemade and the flavors were incredible. The food hall is nice and upscale but felt empty so the atmosphere isn’t buzzing. The food exceeded my expectation, if you’re looking for a good bite it’s worth a try. I would skip if you’re looking for a romantic cozy atmosphere.
A hidden gem in hells kitchen. One of my favorite Italian places in the city believe it or not. Everything is mind blowing but my absolute favorite go to dish is the Carbonara 😍!!! You can’t go wrong with the Carbonara. Absolutely great job 👏
Delicious food and great ambient. However I do not recommend the food for small children, as it has a lot of spices
Amazing food, intimate experience. The location is in a communal dining hall, so highly recommend getting a.spot at the Chef's Counter. Fantastic appetizers and pastas. The bone marrow and octopus appetizera are totally worth it, as is pretty much every pasta. Love this spot !
House made daily pasta with high-quality ingredients. There are places to sit in the bar and common space of the food market.
Delicious! Had the Orecchiette (wild boar sausage and broccoli rabe) and Garganelli w Octopus added! Super delicious. Owner cooked dish right in front of us, and he was great to chat with. Will be back!
Thrilled about the new location at Gotham Market! The carbonera is just as good as I remember it and the new Cajun style chicken is epically flavorful and juicy. This Lord Hobo wheat beer is very unique - particularly for any wheat beer aficionados. No dessert but Ample Hills ice cream is directly behind you.
Absolutely delicious, I had the arugula salad, burrita, and duck leg. The salad was light and refreshing with a lemon vinaigrette and shaved parmigiana. The burrita was creamy and delicious. The duck leg was cooked PERFECTLY nice and crispy skin but not over cooked. I’ll be back to try more of the menu.
Located inside of the market, the atmosphere is very calming. large selection of wines. Had the Bolognese. Made in front of you so it's cool. Tasted so good. Still thinking about it
This place is a treasure! Located inside Gotham Market. Started with a Jai Alai IPA. Arugula salad is so light and fresh! Brussels Sprouts are heavenly, with a mild sweetness and accented with dried cranberries. We tried three pasta entrees, each has its own uniqueness. All wonderful. There are so many more items we want to try. I want to go back there soon! update Aug 24, 2022: We enjoy dinner at dell'anima every time we're in NY, sometimes more than just once. This evening we started with Arugula Salad and Heirloom Tomato Salad. Both reminded me of growing up in northern California where in the summertime we'd enjoy fresh vegetables right from the garden. Both of these salads are so fresh and light. The second course was Cacio e Pepe pecorino, one of our all-time favorites. Pollo al Diavolo was the main, with the most sumptuous thin crunchy crust and super-moist and tasty inside. The only thing that could be better is to come with a larger group so we could have tried more dishes. Oh, and the frozen sun-kissed mixed drink (I think that's close to the correct name) is just wonderful!
The food was delicious we ordered fried gnocchi and Bolognesa papardelle. The draft beers are so tasty the bartender refill our beers for free. He was so kind. The only bad thing was the place to eat outside didn’t has enough heaters for the winter/Covid in ny.
Love it! Their risotto and octopus is amazing! Drinks are good too! The place is small so, go early or make reservations. Price is fair as well!
What a wonderful experience! We love this restaurant and the many versions it has been in NYC. Super friendly staff and chef that celebrated our birthday with us, great menu selection and everything was tasty. It's popular for a reason and we hope to go back soon.
So what can I say about this place other than “out of this world!!” The owner and chef Andrew has created dishes that literally made me and my husband feel like we were somewhere else!!! From the endive salad to the grilled octopus to The new short rib dish the , branzino and the hanger steak…. I can’t say anything but GO THERE NOW!!!! You will not be disappointed! Oh btw, another must have is the almond cake with sea salt gelato!!!!best place in town to experience a new level of taste that will Literally stimulate your senses!!!!
Love this place. Good ambience, friendly staff and delicious food. Had dinner and drinks with friends here. I highly recommend the chef menu.
The food was amazing! Staff was very friendly and helpful with the food selection. The purple Rain drink I recommend.
My sister was visiting me and we decided to go to a random Italian restaurant - we were so happy with the choice! Our server Jay was absolutely fantastic - I’ve been a server for over 10 years and I was starting to realize how bad I am at serving just from having him as ours. He did such a great job & I think was the best server we’ve all ever had in our lives.
The service, food, and vibe are so perfectly in harmony at dell'anima. The chicken as the main is absolutely the right way to go. No notes. Would go back without thinking.
Went here for dinner this weekend to celebrate my mom's birthday and can't recommend it enough! Ignacio our server was amazing and made my mom feel so special, including the hostess who greeted her with 'Happy Birthday' when we walked through the door. All of the dishes were amazing (the arancini was the best I've ever had) and the space is very cute. I live in the neighborhood and this will be a repeat spot!
West Village perfection on Cornelia Street Dell’anima has long been a favorite of my wife and mine, but their new location on Cornelia Street takes the experience to a new level. The space is intimate and beautiful—if you can, snag one of the window seats to watch the neighborhood go by while you dine. The kitchen continues to set the standard for Italian in NYC. While the "meat side" of the menu—specifically the duck, steak, and venison—is consistently exceptional, the pastas are the true showstoppers. The Orecchiette and the Tajarin Carbonara are masterclasses in flavor that put most other spots in the city to shame. Pair that with a cocktail menu and wine list that are always on point, and you have the perfect New York night.
Deeply delicious food, with a warm, casual staff in a beautiful space. We had the burrata, winter citrus salad, carbonara and orichiette. All fantastic.
Interesting indeed with an outdoor wine bar serving up some good flavor dishes. Highlights of the evening were the $19 charred octopus 🐙 & $80 red Italian wine. Easy bike parking next to wall. Comfortable and good vibes. Ramen options available across the counter. The pasta was excellent but portion size for $20 was a big letdown. Need improvement on pasta portion. Also no bread was offered to dip in red pasta sauce otherwise 5 stars was warranted 🙏🏻🙏🏻
The carbonara and mushroom pappardelle were fantastic! Arancini was pretty average. The atmosphere really let the place down. This venue felt like eating in a food court. Service was pretty subpar as well.
Appetizers, meat, certain pastas, and service were good. The octopus was cooked and seasoned perfectly. No bread/olive oil served. However, the only dish that disappointed was the mushroom pasta. The mushrooms itself were a bit too crunchy(?) for my taste and the pasta was very grainy. If the pasta was plain (just flour and egg), I think the flavors would've meshed better.
This is one of the kiosk in Gotham West Market, decided to check it out since the reviews were not bad. I had Pappardelle Integrale and I was not impressed by it. Fine dining price for tasteless, small portion pasta in a food court. There are better places with more delicious options…
Pasta itself was cooked very well, would be better with a little more sauce. Service was just average but food took way too long. Went there on a Saturday night and it took over 50mins for the food to come out. Overall a little better than average would give it 3.5 stars max
Classy, but unoriginal menu. Average food with the village price tag. The staff is not the nicest. The ambience is ruined by the smoke and loudness of the open kitchen. From time to time I wondered if there was something wrong! There are multiple great restaurants around the area that you could check out before paying a visit to this place.
Honestly, I don’t recommend this restaurant. I ordered carbonara pasta, but that was not really carbonara. The source is less, the noodle was not enough to boil and not moisture. Totally the price was not equal to the quality and service… Some comments are stated that was great, nice, wonderful or the best, but I want to ask them, really think so??
Pasta on both dishes ordered was undercooked. Flavour was good but the undercooked pasta just brought it all down. Small portion we both left hungry.
They kept my DoorDash order for 3 hours before canceling it on their side. If the backlog is that long and you can't meet the demand, just be considerate enough to cancel it at least within an hour or so rather than hold my money for ransom for the entire evening.
Went on a Sunday night. Restaurant looks nice and the ambience and service were fine, but the food was horrible. I think it is the worst food I have had in 3 years of living in New York (especially compared to the price) Duck Confit -1/10 It was so salty we had to send it back. To make it worse they served it with pickled onions and mustard which did nothing to balance the flavor and made it even more gross and briny. Bone marrow - 2/10 was so overcooked that none of the actual flavor of the marrow was still there. It tasted like I was eating a crunchy hamburger off a bone. Would serve it to a dog, but only because he’d enjoy the bone. Carbonara - 3/10 way too salty, pasta was overcooked and the whole dish was watery to the point of squeaking. Nero- 4/10 the pasta was cooked well and tasty, the shrimp tasted like it had been frozen and way too overcooked. We were so disappointed with the food that we when to the Tashkent supermarket nearby. I would recommend anyone eats there instead as the food is way better and 1/10th the cost.
I went with my wife to celebrate our 18th anniversary, and we were thrilled to see Dell’Anima back in the West Village. We used to go all the time when it first opened on Jane Street—it was our favorite restaurant for years. Unfortunately, this visit was a huge disappointment. The experience was uncomfortable from the start, with freezing cold air blowing on us the entire meal. The food didn’t redeem it either. The bruschetta was rock hard, and the ricotta with olive oil lacked any real flavor. The lily confit was decent, but that’s about it. The Tajarin Carbonara was flat and flavorless—and it wasn’t even Tajarin; it was fettuccine. Some of the cheese strips even had blue mold on them. The Bucatini Arrabbiata was just okay—not bad, but nothing memorable. The mushroom pappardelle was bland and clumped together in one big mass. The risotto was the most disappointing of all—it completely missed the mark. Instead of being creamy and starchy, it was undercooked and tasted like a bowl of par-cooked farro. I complete smack in the face of Italian cooking. We left most of the food uneaten (except for the bucatini), and no one bothered to ask how our meal was. Dell’Anima from 18 years ago will always hold a special place in my heart—the open kitchen, the energy, and watching that tall, tattooed chef serve some of the best Italian food in New York City. Sadly, this version of Dell’Anima is not that.
