amazing omakase
Just Excellent!
This is the best sushi restaurant in the city ! And our favorite. It is a special place where you have the most perfect omakase with the best fishes of the season.
Authentic Japanese omakase experience. Everything super fresh and directly comes from Japan.
Very quiet and chill vibe place. Fresh sushi with seasonal specials. Staff were very friendly and chef explains all fishes kindly. Would come back and recommend! Make reservation prior!
I’ve never had sushi this incredible in my entire life. My 3 friends and I literally chose this place on a whim and had no idea what we were walking into. None of us had ever had an omakase experience before and Sushi Teru did not disappoint. The fish was fresh, the service was incredible and honestly, the price for what you get is completely understandable. Each course was better than the last and they even show you photos of the fish you are eating and describe everting to you. I will 100% be back here every time I come to NYC.
The cuts here are very unique and seasonal. Service is absolutely wonderful
Exceptional edo style sushi. Great counter experience. Highly recommend
Excellent quality sushi! Friendly waitstaff! Wish they were open for lunch !
The sushi 🍣 is mouth melting. Service was efficient and the waiter was knowledgeable.
Great experience here!
Super nice place with super nice people, AND delicious sushi!
Amazing service, incredible food.
Best omakase I’ve had in New York!
Amazing meal. Must sit at the bar for full experience.
Outstanding sushi, very reasonably priced.
Great quality, great time with Teru and the staff!
Fresh sushi and excellent service!
Best omakase in nyc
Excellent quality and service!
Simply an incredible experience
Unreal...
Amazing. Simply amazing
Excellent and amazing
Absolutely amazing dinner. Went for a dual birthday / anniversary and Sushi Teru made it an amazing evening - food, service and drink recommendations were all incredible. 5/5 recomended!
One of the best omakases in the city. Amazing food and overall experience, and well worth the price. The chef was great and staff were very friendly. Can’t recommend enough!
WOW ! when you arrive in this place you are in the Temple of Sushi Master, Used to visit different sushi restaurant in Ginza Tokyo, nothing is better there! Even the sushi master Jiro (and I respect his talent) is no better. Here at Sushi Teru it is an experience, an explosion of flavors and sensations. The Service is very personal in this intimate place. Well done Chef Kou we will be back! and we can't wait! and it is a challenge to be successful during this difficult time. he can do better for the Sake menu ( But its Covid Time )
Fish quality is exceptional (all from Japan, many from Hokkaido, seasonal). Perhaps the best sushi I’ve had in nyc (vs numerous omakase meals)
Wow. Amazing food and ambiance. Chef was so friendly and explained everything we ate. Great omakase experience, highly recommend sitting at bar.
Had a blast there. Food was amazing. Every dish just kept getting better and better. Can’t wait to go back. Don’t miss out on this gem.
Amazing sushi restaurant!! Japanese restaurant where works real Japanese. Every fresh ingredient has come from Japan.so delivery and incredible quality! I’ll visit asap.
Overall great quality of fish and worth the price tag. Dessert is a bit too small but that's not what you are here for.
Enjoyed a delicious omakase meal at a good price. A few of the sushi pieces had a distinctive, delicious smokiness.
Fantastic sushi and warm service. I've eaten a lot of high-end sushi both Stateside and in Japan, am I'm not sure I've had better sushi even in Tokyo or Kyoto.
A wonderfully delicious experience with exquisite technique and impeccable service, I felt transported to Hokkaido by way of a slice of the freshest fish.
Best sushi I have ever had. This place is a diamond in the rough. I felt like I was in the Sushi Chef’s home.
Excellent sushi and reasonable price. The waiter very knowledgeable with the food. Limited seating. Great experience.
I have been to omakase in Japan and this is at the same level Wonderful food, wonderful service and it is as cheap as you could expect for this level of food in the US Go as soon as possible
Tasty Omakase. The waitress Chika was very sweet and attentive. Highly recommended.
Seven stars. Truly authentic Japanese omakaze. Best fish in town.
This is truly a hidden gem. We sat at the counter and the chef was really nice. He prepared each piece in the way that we got the best contrast between each one. The fish were fresh and tasty, and the uni was so sweet and fresh, though it was a bit awkward when the waiter showed us the photos of the fish on an ipad. The soup was really a surprise, it was in a tea pot but was actually soup, really impressed. Overall, it was an great experience and we look forward to our next visit.
Simply Excellent. Snagged a late reservation here for dinner last night not knowing what to expect. Sushi Teru delivered with a mind blowing performance. The quality of the food and service was to such a high standard that I haven't experienced since my last trip to Tokyo. This restaurant is 100% worth your time. What a find!
Came here with my fiancée and we were both blown away by the food and the service. The flavor of the fish was excellent, and usually I’m not able to discern the flavor of raw fish. The waiter was incredibly helpful and walked us through every bite, even showing us pictures of the original fish.
Omakase is a very subjective experience but one thing is for sure - fresh fish, delicately served, over at a chefs counter, in a relaxed atmosphere with reasonable prices (for an omakase) is a good meal! Sushi Teru was delicious and we really had a great time.
10/10! Excellent fish quality & variety, perfect experience if you are okay to overlook the no-frills/bare decor (definitely no frills!). The service was wonderful; chef is super nice & friendly. Fish level & diversity on par with other high-end places like sushi zo, sushi kosaka, Noda, Yasuda, Shuko, etc... Everything flown in from Japan and we got no bad pieces. Had interesting cuts & fish — not just your salmon/toro/etc.. but also nodoguro, hirame cheeks, etc.. the uni was delicious. They were super accommodative of our preferences (for example I like 50% rice and was no issue and they accommodated a scallion allergy). We were able to order extra piece à la carte after the omakase — ask the chef what he has special that day also and you can get that a la carte also. It’s nice to finally have a solid sushi place in west village that’s perhaps a touch more casual/less rigid Given the no frills decor. If you care a little more about the setting then I recommend sitting at the bar. We sat at a table which allowed us more flexibility to get the smaller omakase + a bunch of a la carte pieces (and I’d probably do that again!) but I’d say the bar seats are definitely a nicer setup. We Will definitely be back!!!
Excellent chef, Kuo, prepares a traditional omakase full of special treats and surprises. The attentive staff is ready with pictures of the fish while Kuo describes the pieces with poetic detail. He clearly loves sharing the omakase experience with diners and I highly recommend the counter service for the best experience and pieces of sushi. Truly a unique and special omakase experience. I haven't had nodoguro anywhere else.
You guys, this new spot is now the best omakase in the city. All their fish is from the legendary Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo... Tokyo's best, brought straight to Hudson Street. Outrageous! Only one fish is from the US (the toro is from Boston) and that was sensational, too. Outdoor seating is enclosed with toasty heaters. Everyone treats you here with such respect and care... divine. What makes it great? The sushi chef is incredibly picky about the quality of the fish that's flown to him from Japan, so customers only get the best cuts. He won't even serve the fish to anyone if it's not up to his standard. 5 stars!!!!
Best kept omakase secret in the city! Run, don’t walk, for truly special fish and family style service in a quiet, nondescript West Village haunt. Make a reservation on OpenTable, then call for sushi counter seating, which is the way to go.
A truly authentic Japanese sushi experience without the Tokyo flight. Don't expect mayo in your maki. You're not going to get any. The rice is what really sets this place apart.
Our hidden gem omakase spot in the city. Chef brings true Edomae tradition to the counter, with seasonal ingredients and perfectly paced courses that feel both refined and generous. Each visit is consistent yet refreshing — always something new, always beautifully done. The chef’s warmth and attention to detail make it a joy every time. A place we will return to again and again:)
Amazing omakase experience with quite a few pieces I never had before. All of the sushi was perfectly fresh and a pleasure to taste. The appetizers are large portions and made the dining experience a unique one. Prices are normal for a high end omakase. Even dessert was well executed.
Wow. Such an incredible meal — we’ve been to probably more than 20 Omakases last year and are SO impressed by the quality and level of service. First, the chef really cares about educating and introducing you to new types of fish. The waitresses had an iPad they use to show you photos of the fish you’re eating which I loved! We had white shrimp here (the first time in NYC) and it was SO good. The restaurant is also very peaceful and the sake selection is fantastic. And omg there was this fish soup at the beginning which just hit the spot. Not overly fishy, but just perfectly balanced. I would go back just for that soup.
While the price may shock you, if you are not familiar with high-quality sushi restaurants with under 20 seats… the sushi was perfection and the chef was so considerate. Not only does the taste justify the price but the sake selection was the perfect compliment and all the sushi is flown in fresh from Japan. The chef has a personal connection in Japan to the famous Tokyo based fish market and had a selection you can find nowhere else in the city. Go for the full omakase and take the time to enjoy it.
Fantastic new addition to the New York sushi-ya scene. Chef Kou-san clearly has the pedigree and experience to bring to life a meaningful and differentiated new addition to the NYC sushi offering. Kou-san is formerly of heavy hitters Kurumazushi and Sushi Ginza Onodera. We enjoyed the warm hospitality and good quality of some not easy to find cuts and varieties of fish. They are opening in the most challenging of times and making a really admirable go of it and we’re wishing them every success.
A hidden gem and one of the best dining experiences I've ever had!! It was honestly better than some Michelin starred places I've tried. Both the food and service was incredible-- I will definitely be back!
It's a great restaurant with great chefs and fresh ingredients. Five stars for the chef, the servers and the food. But last night I felt so sad that I met another two guests and was racially abused by one. The drunken white lady saw my Asian face and started asking me where I was from. I answered her out of courtesy, and she asked me how long I had been in the U.S. and what I was doing here. Since we were here to celebrate a birthday, my friend wanted to post pictures on social media to celebrate his birthday, so we took pictures of the food. This is with the consent of the chef. But then the white lady asked us why we were taking pictures, and said in a weird way that she had some Korean coworkers who liked to take nice pictures and post them online, and asked if we knew any Koreans. She said it was very un-American for us to take pictures. I could see her making a vomiting face after every course she ate and pointing chopsticks at people. I could also see her giving us Asians the middle finger. Nice to meet you Karen, if you and your white boyfriend can see this comment. I would like to say that you are really rude and I feel so offended, please be ashamed of your racist behavior. Please bring respect the next time you visit an Asian restaurant.
Chef Kou served amazing Omakase with the highest skill and created a perfect experience for our business dinner. ❤️🇯🇵🗽
Excellent omakase experience!! Delicious and exceptional hospitality!
The best sushi ive had. Great time and amazing team. Will come back.
One of the greatest Omakase place. Potentially becoming a Michelin Stars Restaurant.
One of the very best for $60. The food is amazing and the service is even better. Staff were helpful and explained the origin for each dish. The dining area is also mostly covered and winds are almost completely blocked.
We made a reservation on a whim and will be 100% be back. The quality of the sushi is fantastic, and we loved the various levels of omakase concept.

Best omakase experience I've ever had. Top notch sushi and sushimi
Incredible sushi. All the fish comes from Japan. Technique and preparation are remarkable. A hidden gem on Hudson.
I met an old friend who recommend Turi . we didn’t order the owner / chef just provided us with incredible selection of sushi sashimi and variations that evening. Japanese cuisine is my favourite cuisine and handsdown outside of Tokyo - This is the best Japanese that I’ve eaten - period.
What a wonderful spot! Definitely a hidden gem. Went for dinner on a Saturday night and it was very surprising that we were the only group there -- but it was kind of nice. It was such a personal experience where the chef is talking and explaining the process, the fish, and everything all while making and serving fish. The staff is all very friendly and attentive. I never felt like I was waiting very long before courses. Best sushi omakase I've ever had. It was very traditional and the really let the fish speak for itself. Will definitely be coming back :)

Very high quality fish and unmistakable skill in preparing the nigiri and sashimi. However, given the price/quality level and compared to its peers that we’ve tried in NYC and DC, the number of dishes/pieces included with the omakase was underwhelming. We both left hungry, nine pieces of nigiri is just not enough for the price being paid. While the fish quality was good, we will not be going back unless the volume increases to match the competition.
Sat at the counter for the full omakase. Just about everything was great, but I wasn’t completely convinced it was a good value. My palate might not be good enough to discern the differences compared to other omakases I’ve had. Nonetheless, the highlights for me here, as I remember it: baby squid with miso appetizer - Very fresh, with a nice springy texture. ankimo appetizer - Cooked in wine, to give it a nice roundness in flavor. The texture was smooth and firm. Seemed more elevated compared to ankimo I’ve had in the past. clear soup appetizer - It had a hint of smokiness that was a nice surprise. golden eye snapper nigiri - To me, reminiscent of botan ebi, but a cleaner taste and not as buttery. red snapper nigiri - In contrast to the golden eye, a more rounded taste and softer texture. botan ebi nigiri - Always a favorite piece of mine, like a good egg yolk. smoked baby barracuda nigiri - Flaked and melted in the mouth. Hokkaido uni nigiri - Usually prefer Santa Barbara over Hokkaido uni because the latter usually tastes too briny or off to me, but here, there was just a nice brief hint of brine that gave way to that sweet custard. toro-taku hand roll - Never had the toro-taku combination before, so while memorable for me, might not actually be that special. In contrast to negi-toro, much sweeter.
The food was great. Classic omakase experience with high quality materials. All staffs were very patient as people ran late for the reservation. And late minute change to the group size was also well accommodated by serving extra portion. Highly recommend omakase instead of the dining table!
Food was excellent!! Order extra pieces of the uni....understand the time limit but we were just getting relaxed and wanted to order more pieces and drinks...before we had to leave...

Too expensive! The food was good and authentic but I got another dinner after 2 hours.
About 2x overpriced, spent $800 and had one beer. Outside that no vibe
Menu is great and very simple and good
This is fair sushi Omakase place. Fish quality is in general good. On the other hand, Shari preparation, size and temperature is not the best quality to my taste. Kohada taste was slightly off in the vinegar quality. For the price of $200, there were only 9 pieces of nigiri plus few small appetizers. No finishing miso soup in the end. Dobin mushi soup was just ok. Friendly good service. Overall this is a fair to good Omakase spot, (as I been to and tasted many Omakase Edo Mae sushi in Tokyo and across US). Probably not come back again because there are other better choices of Omakase in Manhattan, like sushi Ikumi.
Expensive for the quality given. Fish was decent, not bad. Some pieces that were torched tasted too much like the gas canister (torch taste). Rice was good. Nori in handroll was not super crispy (just OK). Scallop was too cold and large. Anago was just average. For $200, I was expecting a higher quality level, a bit more food than ONLY 9 nigiri, a handroll, and a few appetizers. There were some other things I disliked: flavorless abalone in the chawanmushi (my dining companion didn't even know it was there), too much mayonnaise on the hotaru ika, and stringy chutoro. Atmosphere is simple, basic, quiet. The killer was that even though we were the only two people in the restaurant from 8pm onwards, the owner/chef told us that they were closing and we had to leave at 9:15pm. You would think that spending $500 on dinner and being your only customers would warrant being able to stay until at least 10pm (official closing time on website). Guess not. Won't be returning.

I love sushi, but I ate here once with a friend and the sushi was mediocre at best, and atmosphere was not great. I also heard if you cancel your reservation they still charge you $200/person. Buyer beware, it is NOT worth the price tag.
This restaurant has an illegal and ugly shed in front. It’s a blight on an otherwise historic block. Overpriced and replaced a reliable neighborhood restaurant .
ONE OF THE WORST OMAKASE PLACE FOR $200.. NOT RECOMMENDED.. SO MANY BETTER PLACE WITH THE PRICE POINT. CHEF IS PRETENDING AS JAPANESE, BUT NOT.
