Opinions de Yakitori Torishin New York
The combination of the yakitori omakase and Dassai flight was absolutely exceptional! Each yakitori skewer was meticulously prepared, showcasing the chef’s remarkable skill and dedication to his craft. The harmony between the flavors of the yakitori and the Dassai blue sake was nothing short of outstanding, creating a truly memorable dining experience! I was thoroughly impressed and am already looking forward to my next visit!!
Chef's Table is a memorable life experience! Well worth the cost. It's in a private area that sits no more than 10 (i may be off by a couple) at a time, the chef's are cooking and explaining everything as they are about to make it. Please be open-minded and try all of the meat selections! I do not recommend children attend the chef's table, but i do recommend the regular dining experience for them. FYI: even the restroom is a memorable experience! They have the TOTO toilet.....wow Noise Level: 6 (10 being the loudest) Decor: Expected simplicity Lighting: 4 (10 being the brightest: not so bright, and not too dark) Restroom: 10! An amazing experience in itself!!
I had the best yakitori of my life here! I took my boyfriend to have the omakase experience here and it was out of this world!!! The food was just on another level and the chefs were so intricate in their cooking. It’s definitely a special experience and one you won’t forget. Highly highly recommend the Omakase
Check it out, you’ll be surprised by how much you may actually enjoy it. Sit at the counter for a better experience. The omakase was an enjoyable experience and the full staff were kind and attentive. The yakitori was legit delicious and quite a big difference between what you can get elsewhere. Albeit expensive, I thought the overall experience was worth it. Each piece was tender and juicy, grilled to perfection. The waygu was to die for. Also surprisingly, the shiitake mushroom which I eat often was elevated to a different level here. We also ordered a bottle of sake which I thought was reasonably priced. Desert was simple but well executed. I was afraid I would leave hungry, but do not fret the course will no doubt leave you feeling way full.
Came here to celebrate my birthday! The servers indeed made it extra special by singing :) Just know that this place serves yakitori exclusively. So if you are looking for other types of Japanese food, this would not be the spot for you. Sitting at the counter is the best seat in the house. We opted for the Omakase special ($108 for 14 courses where you can choose either the Wagyu or the Iberico) - it was a great call. The skewers were all very tender, and the ones that surprised me the most were the chicken heart and the crispy skin. We also ordered the meatball (chicken & duck) to try as extra. The service here was top-notch, and everyone made you feel so welcome. The atmosphere felt zen despite how busy the grill station was.
Wow what an amazing dinner! My husband and I dined here last night for my birthday and we were so happy we chose Torishin. From the moment we walked in, we felt so appreciated, we were greeted by multiple employees and provided with a detailed explanation of the dining experience. We sat at the kitchen counter and Jackie Chen along with Brian provide the most amazing dining experience. We indulged in the omakase counter experience and I highly recommend it. We were able to try multiple dishes and each dish was grilled to perfection. Jackie Chen provided us with details regarding each plate and also answered all of our questions. By the end of the experience, we were so full. This by far was one of my favorite dinners and I cant wait to visit again. Thank you Torishin for the wonderful birthday dinner!
I visited Yakitori Torishin with one other person for their Limited Chef's Counter experience. We ordered the $180 course and got a cocktail to share. The cocktail was beautifully crafted and delicious. The 14 course menu is a mix if sashimi, yakitori skewers, soups, meats, a rice dish, and dessert. The starting sashimi course was surprisingly fresh and delicious. The service here is amazing with attentive chefs and servers. Everyone was very polite and friendly and made sure everything was to out liking. The atmosphere was calm and intimate - a great date night dinner or an opportunity to reconnect with a loved one over amazing food. Proof of vaccination and photo ID is required to dine in. You must let the restaurant know of any allergies or dietary restrictions ahead of time.
Wow. What an amazing dinner! The food was fantastic, some of the best bites of chicken, I've ever had. We treated ourselves to the select counter and got served by the GM/VP Akihiro-san. Super knowledgeable and cared for every bite. They had A5 wagyu, iberico ham, and cod roe specials which were all amazing. Expensive but worth every penny and deserves it's Michelin star. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!
First time trying Torishin and it is like being transported to Japan. Every skewer was so flavorful. I highly recommend booking the chefs counter where you can chat with the chefs if you are able to.
I visited this wonderful restaurant together with my boyfriend today and we both absolutely loved it. Our chef was Tatsunori Kogashiwa and another chef whose name I sadly forgot. They were both very kind, professional and amazing at their craft. The staff was also very attentive and provided an excellent service. This meal might be pricy but it is well worth it. It is an experience you‘ll definitely never forget!
I assure everybody that Torishin is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the U.S. Especially, the best and the most sophisticated YAKITORI. Every single one of Torishin's staff, such as reception, server, and chefs provide the most comfortable and amiable service. Particularly, the authentic Japanese chefs for Select Counter is above and beyond. They provide you with valuable experience that your sense of taste goes beyond your common sense. Sakes that Torishin provide harmonize with their finest dishes as well. The ambience makes you feel that you are in a different world by producing a relaxed but the most Japanese traditional atmosphere. If you want to feel a real Japan, definitely Torishin is the one to experience.
Enjoyed this place a lot. Had the a la carte - didn't think the omakase was worth it for us as we dont fancy organs and other such "delicacies". The items we ordered came on time, well cooked, and tasted great. We were also impressed by the service, though the explanations for the menu etc was a bit too long winded. Prices are not cheap, but the quality was good. The space in the restaurant is unique with different levels. Enjoyable experience and would recommend this to anyone.
What a great hidden find, seriously you could walk right past it. When you do find it and walk through those doors, you feel like you enter a portal straight to Japan. As soon as you step in, I felt like it was back in Tokyo. All staff greets you and makes you feel extremely welcome. The dining areas is deceptive spacious and traditional. You can tell the owners and staff take great pride in bringing a small piece of Japan to NYC. One of my favorite meals I had, repeatedly, in Tokyo was the yakitori street food. Most of the time I didn't know exactly what I was eating and I did not care, it was delicious. Torishin brought me back, although do to their very knowledgeable staff I knew exactly what I was eating. I brought my family here during our visit to NYC because we are planning a trip to Japan in the next year. One of their big worries is the food, and will they be able to enjoy it. They both said this was a great experience for them and made them feel much better about eating in Japan. Why do I add this, and why should you care? Because it is a testament to how carefully Torishin's staff works to bring you the very best. Everything we had was super delicious and cooked to delicate perfection. They are not just meat skewers, it is very good yakitori. It is an experience and a meal worth every penny. We had the chicken breasts, traditional thighs (highly recommend), potatoes (wife and step-daughter loved these), zucchini, gizzards, chicken meat balls, and maybe a few others. When I come back, I want to try the set meal. This was more about my wife and step-daughter, so we did ala carte which is also a great option. Thank you Torishin for having us and a great meal.
We were impressed with the yakitori, appetizers, and refreshments. Yakitori kashiwa, very fragrant and juicy thigh and breast meat. Appetizers were eel with stamina, Shishito from Kyoto, and sour Spanish mackerel pickled in Nanban. The refreshment was a refreshing summer seasonal spicy daikon radish soba. Everything was delicious.
Simply spectacular!!! Yakitori omakase but also with a variety of other types of Japanese cuisine, Torishin is a meal that we won’t be forgetting any time soon. The yakitori was skillfully prepared with great flavor combos. The chicken oyster was a highlight with crispy chicken skin and succulent nugget of meat underneath. The uni was part of the opening course and was extremely fresh along with other fantastic sashimi. Other courses like the ramen and soba were all flavorful but executed with great simplicity. The chef at the counter was friendly and warm, explaining each dish in detail. The service was attentive and efficient, making the experience very enjoyable. I could go on and on but do yourself a favor and try this place, we had the most excellent time.
Had an amazing dinner at Torisin in Midtown. This spot is the first yakitori restaurant in the states to get a Michelin star for 7 consecutive years and 3 stars from NY Times. The whole experience was so much fun with so many different courses. The yakitori is grilled to perfection. It’s so juicy and tender . The A5 Wagyu beef steak and the chicken soup is so good. Plus the service was awesome. Definitely going back soon.
The Chef's Special Omakase didn't disappoint! We really enjoyed watching the chef prepare every skewer with love. The experience watching the chefs at work adds to the outstanding flavors and delicate textures of each plate. Do NOT skip the Japanese Waygu steak- I cannot express in words how incredibly delicious that plate was, even the potatoes! Portions were a little above average for a tasting menu. We left satisfied, not stuffed and not hungry. I highly recommend sitting at one of the counters (book through resy) to get the full experience. The staff were all extremely attentive and very friendly, as expected for a Michelin Star restaurant. You will not be disappointed!
This is an absolute gem of a place. The food quality is really excellent and the staff are super helpful and kind. If you sit at the kitchen bar, the chefs explain what each skewer of meat is. The grilled uni is excellent! Highly recommend splashing out and getting the omakase (chefs choice) menu.
Yakitori Torishin is the country’s firstMichelin star rated Japanese Yakitori restaurant located in Midtown West. Here you can experience authentic high quality yakitori Omakase style. Chef Jackie prepared our skewers and explained to us each and every course in depth this evening. Friendly staffs here are super attentive and super professional. We opted for the 14-course meal which was extremely filling. First course was a pickled cucumber anddaikon radish to get you appetizing.Chicken nanban, 8 skewers, choice of a5 wagyu or iberico pork, a seasonal refreshener, choice of rice dish, and finally dessert. Daikon radish was served as a palate cleanser between skewers. Skewersare juicy and flavorful with a beautiful aroma. We also got to enjoy Japanese Oishii strawberries before dessert for that extra specialness. Come book your table at Yakitori Torishin and experience Japan right in NYC! Best and Authentic Yakitori in NYC !! Every part of the chicken is skewered, grilled to perfection by Yakitori Master that’s been honing their craft for years !! If you’re curious about trying different part of a chicken, freshest seafood directly flown from Japan, world class ingredients, great sake list and the vibes ?! Definitely should visit !!
Walking by you would not imagine that this restaurant was within, it’s very unassuming from 53rd street with no possible way to view inside without going through the door. You will need a reservation to dine here. The first time we walked in just to inquire they turned us away mentioning we needed a reservation. The reservation by the way will cost you $50 a person if you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment. If you love chicken come here, again, You must love the flavor and texture of chicken. It’s a lot of chicken! That being said, my favorite was actually the wagyu, wow! It was out of this world! They also had an Iberian pork option and fish so it’s not all chicken but almost. The service at this place is unmatched and although it’s kind of cramped, it doesn’t feel small inside and there’s so many staff that you constantly feel supported and waited upon. The drink menu is vast and the food is truly delicious. My guest said that they considered the price kind of high because it was “just chicken”. I thought it was a good value for the money because the food was very tasty and delicious no matter what it was created from. The omakase plates kept coming and it was very filling. We were told the tasting would take 2-2.5 hours but only took an hour and a half and we felt a little rushed. The best dessert was the panna cotta, it was delicious, we also had the sorbet which was refreshing. I would recommend this place for the chicken lover in your life.
I would Definitely recommend giving here a try! I went here the other day for a girls night at the Sake Bar. We had the 3 skewer set (which were so juicy and delicious!) and tap beer. The chef’s counter was already full, so next time we’ll make sure to make a reservation in advance.
Best dining experience I’ve had. Some restaurants that have a tasting menu/fixed price only has some dishes that are good and others that are stale in taste. Every dish was great at Torishin! Not to mention they have the $100 omakase which is a great price point. We sat at the counter and the interaction with the chef was amazing and friendly. The waitress was very attentive and very detailed.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic Experience at Torishin Yakitori! I had an amazing dining experience at Torishin Yakitori! The quality of the food was outstanding; each skewer was grilled to perfection, capturing authentic Japanese flavors. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for an enjoyable and relaxed meal. The service was attentive and made the experience even better. If you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine or curious about yakitori, I highly recommend this spot!
I had a fantastic meal with Ikeda san at the select counter that I had to go back the following week. Back to back weeks where we got some special skewers highly recommend the hiza nonkotsu, seseri ,hatsumoto, liver , Kawa, chicken oyster the koshi nonkotsu could have used some more crunch for my taste but also another great bite Taylor’s service and friendly conversation added to the appeal of a great meal Definitely going to be part of my rotation and i’d highly recommend .
I chose the table seating but if I have another chance I will definitely be sitting at the omakase counter. Overall the food was amazing. I am not quite sure about the radish sides. They did not taste of any sauce or marinade, just plain raw vegetable. The “oyster” chicken skewer was the best dish of the courses. I really enjoyed all of them though. I do think could be slightly cheaper considering that the main ingredients are chicken.
We were able to snag a omakase counter spot for a Wed night dinner. As a note they have 2 seatings for omakase a night due to the fact that they use binchotan charcoal and get it ready for each service. Everything was super delicious. My favorites were the inner thigh, chicken oyster but everything was great The chef was a master of his craft and was extremely friendly. He indulged me when i told him about my love of all things chicken and even showed me some of his home cooking pictures. He told us about the 50 year old tare they use and also showed pictures. The servers were great also. Very attentive at every turn
Came back here a second time for the chefs select skewers menu. Both times were amazing! When you walk in you’re kindly greeted by everyone who sees you. We got seated and got a preview of everything we were going to eat. (With the ability to substitute some items, but we went with the chefs choice.) Round after round came, and it did not disappoint. One of my most memorable bites was probably the chicken oyster because of how juicy it is. The chicken arterty was also something we’ve never had before—a special skewer by the master chef. This experience is worth checking out whether for a special occasional or just a regular day.
A delightful little yakitori restaurant. It was great we didn’t smell like the food when we left since we had regular seating. It would be cool to watch them cook but we had kids with us. It’s great that you can tell them you’re not into weird pieces like hearts and organs and they’ll substitute. The different pieces, though mostly chicken, all had different tastes. We brought our kids that can’t finish an entire omakase. We thought we could get a la carte for them but they won’t let you order just a la carte despite the two adults ordering a la carte. We enjoyed our meal here.
I've been wanting to come for a while, and I finally made it tonight. Everything was absolutely incredible. We tried the Chef Omakase at $108 per person. It included Amuse-Bouche, Seasonal Appetizer, Yakitori, Special Grill, Seasonal Refreshener, Rice Dish, and dessert. My personal favorites were the chicken oyster Yakitori and the Wagyu beef steak! And I absolutely loved that they served Japanese strawberries for dessert! We visited on a weekday night, and it was crowded. Make sure to make a reservation in advance!
I had the pleasure of dining at Yakitori Torishin last Saturday night, and it was an experience beyond compare. From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. The staff was attentive, ensuring our every need was met and consistently checking in to ensure our satisfaction. Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the food. Every dish that graced our table was a masterpiece. The skilled hands behind the grill truly worked magic, cooking each item to absolute perfection. The chicken, in particular, was juicy and bursting with flavor. But what truly surprised and delighted me were the A5 wagyu and Iberico pork selections. They were simply out of this world, elevating the dining experience to new heights. Even the vegetables were a revelation. The mushroom and asparagus were so impeccably prepared that they stole the spotlight alongside the meat dishes. Although I opted for the ramen, my dining companion chose the oyakodon, and I must say, I had a serious case of food envy. The oyakodon was a symphony of flavors, and I regretted not ordering it myself. However, even the ramen was enjoyable, albeit not as standout as the other offerings. Leaving Yakitori Torishin, my friend and I were both beaming with satisfaction. It was an evening filled with culinary delights that we won't soon forget. Without a doubt, we'll be returning to indulge in more of their exquisite offerings. Yakitori Torishin has earned its Michelin star and then some, and I can't wait to experience it all over again. Highly, highly recommended.
One of the best Yakitori places we’ve been to. This is One Michelin star Japanese restaurant that serves traditional charcoal-grilled Yakitori chicken. All the food was very fresh, cooked to perfection and delicious! Start with sake and finish with a green tea ice cream. Definitely going back again soon to try out their many other dishes.
I had dinner at Yakitori Torishin, a One Michelin star Japanese restaurant that serves traditional charcoal-grilled Yakitori chicken. I never knew chicken could taste so good. Sitting at the chef-selected counter, I experienced a complete omakase service. The chef explained every part of the meal, which included sashimi and duck breast, in addition to select parts of the organic chicken. The service was beyond impeccable and included a choice of sake from the restaurant’s rich collection. Definitely a unique and highly recommended experience that I am eager to have again soon.
I was very impressed with the TORISHIN, the taste, and the customer service. I ordered the chef's Omakase this time. The pace at which each dish was served was perfect. The manager, Ryu, was especially sincere to all customers. I really appreciated his attention to detail. It has become one of my favorite stores!
A stunning dining experience unlike any other in NYC. I truly loved every bite I had, especially the seasonal appetizer and chicken oyster. Cooking over coal really enhances the flavor of the chicken, adding a nice smoky and crispy texture to every bite. I recommend this spot for special occasions & date nights, you won’t be disappointed (especially with the oishii strawberry they give you at the end).
Torishin in New York is a culinary gem, celebrated as the first yakitori restaurant in the U.S. to earn a Michelin star for seven consecutive years Located in Hell's Kitchen, it offers an authentic Japanese dining experience with meticulously grilled skewers, crafted using premium ingredients like organic chicken and Kishu Binchotan charcoal The ambiance is serene, and the sound of crackling charcoal adds to the sensory delight. Their menu features options like the Chef's Omakase course, which includes 14 meticulously prepared dishes. The restaurant also boasts an impressive sake selection, perfectly complementing the umami flavors of the yakitori. ONE major downside, you will have to pay a minimum of $40 per person.
This is a very different experience than Kochi or Totto. It is more refined. Some might find the lack of risk boring. Clean is the main word that comes to mind. Every bite we were served at the Chef's Table was the cleanest bite of what was on the skewer. Each cooked to perfection. Beyond the skewers there bright bites of vinegar cured fig or fresh ground wasabi. A highlight for me was a bowl of chicken broth that reminded me of the broth at Nong's Khao Man Gai. But unlike that restaurant which specializes in refined broth this was one just one course for the evening. You know how when you eat something really good but it's bad for you, so later in the evening it weighs on you? The food at Torishin was so clean that I felt like I had gained hit points by the end of the evening. I felt refreshed. The venue is right but well organized. Our server was off his game that night, but the food was so good that it didn't matter.
TLDR: Torishin is one of the spots that you should consider if you're looking for a yakitori tasting. IMO the Select Counter is worth the premium for the overall experience and the sheer variety of yakitori available. If you're looking to avoid organ meats - chef can accomodate but if you eat it all, you can have it all. Torishin was on my list for a long time but waiting to find the right occasion to try it. I'd been to the standard counter in the back once before but never the select counter in the front. It's a bit pricier than the back one but if you're looking for that really authentic Japanese yakitori experience, this is a great spot. Chef will assemble the greatest hits but will also check to make sure of your preferences. If you don't like organ meats, he will avoid serving those but if you're looking for the true head-to-tail experience; he can provide what you're looking for. You may wonder just how full you'll get off of yakitori but I can assure you that we were quite stuffed by the end. My favorites were definitely the chicken oyster and the chicken tsukune or meat ball. If you've never had an oyster, there are only two per chicken and it's incredibly tender with this amazing flavor imparted by the Japanese white charcoal. The meatball is also very tasty with the egg yolk sauce served along side it. The conclusion dish is cool because you can choose between Japansese hot pot, chicken and egg rice bowl or a ramen that chef prepares. You don't have to go select, the back counter and general dining room are also very enjoyable as well. Bottom line, Torishin is a great place to dine especially if you love Japanese food and chicken.
This place is an epic must try in Hell's Kitchen. It's unassuming but spectacular once you arrive. They deserve every Michelin star they have! We tried the 15 course tasting menu at the Chef's Counter and had an incredible meal. Superior vibes, an amazing view & impeccable service. The small space feels intimate & it feels like you have a private chef just for you. They explain every detail. Their tare sauce is aged 54 years & their experienced chefs make incredible meat right on their charcoal grill. The counter allows you to see all the action & we had so much fun. It's a staple that's a must whether you live in NYC or if you're just visiting. The chicken wings, fried tofu with bonito, panna cotta & special sake from upstate NY were our favorites! We were full on course 9 so unlike a lot of other tastings, you won't leave hungry! Worth every penny. I will certainly be back!
We went for the chef’s set. Everything was perfect, the ingredients were so fresh, the chef was so friendly, and the food displayed to us were arts. The chicken was very tender. For the delicate dishes, yuzu added a lot of flavor to the in-house sauce. For dessert I highly recommend the panna cotta!
A truly amazing experience at the first Yakitori spot in NYC! The food was amazing. Some pieces had a great charr, some had a lighter grill. Each skewer was grilled to perfection. The service is another place where Torishin really shines bright. Our servers Anna, and Haruka were extremely attentive without ever being overbearing. They were often there but never in a way to overstep. They were quick to offer recommendations and answer any questions. They (and the food) made the whole experience a 5 star experience.
Excellent Yakitori. I originally booked a table and they upgraded me to a counter seat. The hostess said the counter seat would be a more enjoyable experience and she was correct.. My wife and I sat at the counter and enjoyed watching the staff do their magic in preparing our dishes. Counter seating is only about 10 seats so call and make a reservation. The food was excellent and every dish/skewer had is own unique flair. Our dining session lasted two hours and we enjoyed every minute. We did not order any liquor. Service was also impeccable.
We had a delightful dinner here! The staff provided very attentive and warm service. All the skewers were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce. My favorite was the drumstick part—grilled with the skin on to a crispy exterior, while the meat remained tender and juicy. The special of the day, pork paired with cherry tomatoes, was quite stunning. The wagyu melted in my mouth, and it was my first time tasting it paired with marinated seaweed, which I absolutely loved. The Japanese strawberries at the end were very refreshing and sweet—loved them! The herb sorbet had a unique, clean, and refreshing taste, highly recommended!
Torishin is hands-down the best yakitori restaurants in New York City. I’ve dined here multiple times, and each visit is consistently exceptional. The service is professional yet friendly, and the food is beyond delicious—authentic Japanese charcoal-grilled chicken done to perfection. You’ll gain a whole new appreciation for different chicken cuts, from tender thigh to gizzards, oysters, and hearts. This time, I tried their Dassai sake tasting promo—$29 for three premium glasses that paired perfectly with the yakitori. It’s a fantastic deal if you love sake or want to explore high-quality Japanese pairings. Every visit feels like a quick escape to Tokyo. If you're looking for Michelin-quality yakitori, top-tier sake, and an intimate Japanese dining experience in NYC, this place is a must.
Went here for a date night & as soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted & escorted to the chef’s select counter! This experience exceeded all expectations! It’s totally worth the premium as your tastebuds are transported to various textures and flavors with each bite. I appreciated the accommodations & friendly service of our waiter and the two chefs behind the counter that evening. We were able to converse easily with the chefs while they worked their magic with each dish. I have to note that the sake was also delicious (& strong)! Would highly recommend this establishment & for people to book a time slot for their select counter!
My partner and I dined at Torishin last year (3/1/24), and had one of the most memorable meals of our life. The food was incredibly delicious, the service was outstanding (huge shout out to Yuriko! I'm so sorry it took me so long to write this review!), and the overall experience made it feel like we were visiting Japan all over again. We both ordered the omakase special and our server, Yuriko, helped us choose two bottles of sake that both fit our personal preferences and complemented our meal. The omakase special was perfectly paced and each serving is perfectly sized so that you will definitely be full and satisfied by the end of the 15 courses. Even though we were already full near the end of the courses, I was dying to try a couple of items from the a la carte menu, and the crispy skin, pork, and duck breast skewers did not disappoint! We also really enjoyed watching the chefs as they worked in the kitchen, mere feet away. They made our meal particularly special as it was my birthday and they brought out my matcha ice cream with a candle and say happy birthday to me! They even offered to take photos of us. Everyone, from the hostess to Yuriko to the chefs, were so welcoming and kind, and I still think of our meal and experience at Torishin fondly. Last but not least, I have a shellfish and fish allergy and they made sure that there was no cross contamination.
I had such a good experience for my birthday! The chef was cooking and chatting with us the whole time. The chicken knee was one of my favorite pieces and I left full and happy. The atmosphere is cozy and feels very personal since the chef is cooking right in front of you. And the chef isn’t shy to drink with you, so share a drink and enjoy the food!!!
Had a great experience at Torishin. The service was attentive and the ambiance was vibrant and welcoming. The interior is pretty large with a lot of seating options. We sat the chef counter in the back where you can watch the chef roast the skewers right in front of you. Food was delicious. Had the signature omakase which has different parts of the chicken as the main protein. All of the chicken was cooked perfectly, none that were remotely dry, and all seasoned very well. Each offering a different texture and flavor profile. I was very impressed by the preparation and presentation. Overall highly recommend this experience!
My friend made a reservation and we had a wonderful time. Outside of Japan, this is one of the best Yakitori places I’ve visited, and they made me feel like I’m home!! We did their Omakase course at the counter seating, and everything was implacable! All the food was delicious, and we got very full at the end. I highly recommend this gem to anyone who loves Yakitori and or chicken dishes.
Yakitori Torishin is America’s first Michelin-starred yakitori restaurant in tucked in Midtown West. They offer a full yakitori omakase experience for $148pp which takes you on a full journey through the art of Japanese yakitori. Each skewer is grilled over binchotan charcoal bringing out a smoky aroma and juicy, layered flavors that are absolutely mouthwatering. Seasonal selections keep the experience fresh and surprising, and pairing everything with different sake makes it even more memorable. Torishin staffs are warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they’re serving. They take time to explain each skewer, offer thoughtful recommendations, and strike the perfect balance between professionalism and making you feel completely at home. If you’re looking for authentic yakitori elevated to the highest level, this is the place to go!
Had the most incredible dining experience at Torishin! I went for the chef’s counter full signature omakase Yakitori and it was unforgettable. Every skewer was grilled to absolute perfection — smoky, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The chefs make the experience even more special, explaining the ingredients and techniques as they cook right in front of you. You can really see the passion and precision that goes into each bite. If you’re a fan of yakitori or just looking for an extraordinary omakase-style experience, this is a must-visit in NYC. Worth every penny and absolutely deserving of a repeat visit!
I visited Torishin in April 2025 and had such a memorable experience! From the moment I stepped inside, the staff made me feel so welcomed and at ease - I instantly knew I was going to have a good time. I chose the Omakase option, which was a perfect way to try a range of dishes even though I'm not the most adventurous eater. The staff were incredibly thoughtful, checking in with my friend and me ahead of our meal to see if we preferred certain cuts of meat so they could tailor the experience to our individual tastes. Throughout the meal, our server was attentive and knowledgeable, always nearby to answer questions and make sure we were comfortable and enjoying everything. Watching the chef prepare each course right in front of us made the atmosphere even more special and added to the night! As for the food itself - it was absolutely incredible. My favorite dishes were their popular chicken "scallops," which were so juicy and flavorful, and the gindara fish, which was perfectly flaky and delicious. Between the warm service, the amazing food, and the lively, welcoming atmosphere, Torishin truly gave me a night to remember. I can't wait to come back!
Visiting New York from London, I try to eat with curiosity. I’m always chasing flavour, technique, and that feeling you only get when food really lands. Torishin delivered exactly that. Every skewer was clean, precise, and deeply umami. Nothing overworked, nothing unnecessary. Pure balance. Sitting at the counter, watching the chef work, you feel the respect for the craft in every movement. The atmosphere is calm, elegant, and focused, which lets the food do the talking. Big thank you to the chef and the team. This is serious cooking, done with humility and mastery. A place I’ll remember…and return to.
The chef’s counter was fully reserved however they recommended us enjoy dinner in their bar area counter, which was still such an amazing experience! 🙌 We chose a short omakase experience that was focused on chicken 🍗 and it’s on skewers—WOW. We really enjoyed it. Definitely take the bartenders recommendation for a sake 🍶 that pair well with your meal. Order the sea urchin that’s char broiled 😋
I miss yakitori from my time living in Asia, so I decided to give Torishin a try last weekend. It’s definitely more upscale than the spots I used to frequent, but I was excited to see what they’d do. I went with the omakase, though I liked that they also offer individual skewers a la carte. Sitting counter side was a lot of fun—the team clearly knows their craft, and it was great to watch everything being cooked right over the charcoal. Every bite was excellent—tender, flavorful, and full of smoky charcoal depth. My favorite of the night was the chicken oyster. If you like chicken, it really doesn’t get better than that. Service was outstanding and made the evening even more enjoyable. Overall, a wonderful experience. I’ll definitely be back.
Wow, I went here tonight and it was the perfect meal. It’s the perfect place to go to before or after a Broadway show it’s a few steps away from all the Broadway shows!! I love how chic the restaurant is. you walk in and you’re totally transported to a whole different world which I absolutely love the food was so good. It was so freshly yakitori was the best I ever had. It’s Michelin rated and the service was excellent. The yakitori chefs really listened to what my preferences were so I really enjoyed every bite. The prefix Omakase meals totally worth it. It’s so much food. Totally worth it!!!
Dining at Torishin was such a great experience!! I went for the select counter chef’s omakase, and it was fantastic from beginning to end. Every skewer was cooked perfectly, and you can really tell how much care goes into each one. The chicken oyster was a standout—super juicy and full of flavor—and the heart and liver were excellent as well. Honestly, every single piece we had was really, really good, with no misses at all. Sitting at the counter made the experience even better. The chef was friendly and knowledgeable, and took the time to explain each dish, which made the meal feel more personal and engaging. It was great to learn more about the different cuts and techniques while watching everything come together. Service was also on point—attentive, smooth, and welcoming without being over the top. Overall, the whole experience felt thoughtful, relaxed, and very enjoyable. If you’re into yakitori or just want an amazing meal with great service, Torishin is absolutely worth it.
Torishin is worth it. Incredible experience - great execution. You’ll get to experience a great yakitori course paired with fantastic banter from Jacky, the chef cooking our skewers. Each skewer was delicious and perfectly seasoned. Should you wish, you can add the sancho pepper or the shichimi which are available at your counter. I loved the chicken heart. Soft, steak like and juicy. It really is the best piece. You’ll also have the option of adding additional skewers - do this. Really wish I got the pudding instead of the shiso gremolata/ice dessert. The pudding is phenomenal. Sweer, rich, and decadent. Perfect ending that I sadly did not get through my own idiocy.
Loved this restaurant! A unique way to try omakase, with yummy skewers and creations off the grill! I could not get enough of the bento flake tofu, the salmon dish as well as the nicely prepared skewers! the ambience is amazing, you feel transported to japan the moment you step in! The mocktails are also not to miss! Make sure to book the chefs counter for the best experience!
The experience as a whole was extremely enjoyable. It was also wildly expensive. You are able to add a la carte yakitori to your meal, which a did about 6 extra pieces. The first bites of sashimi are completely underwhelming. And the king crab add-on wasn't worth the $30 supplement. The chicken yakitori was all great though, aside from the liver I added... It was a little too cooked/grainy for my liking. It was fun to try different skins and to get the back cartilage ( a VERY unique texture, and definitely not for everyone). Everything was very well seasoned. I'll be going back, but I'll probably sit in the regular seating area and order a la carte to get a very similar experience without paying nearly as much. I've been told that some of the regular cooks can be heavy-handed with the seasoning, so if your first pieces are too salty, you can request they tone it down a little. If you ask nicely too, you might be able to order some of the more interesting cuts usually reserved for the omakase counter, depending on the night.
i got a little sick of chicken halfway through, given all the meat skewers are various chicken parts. they were all cooked well but tasted similar in flavor. the best was the soba dish and the rice dishes. they did ask at the beginning if we were okay with organ meat and i said yes but then no organ meats appeared, which confused me. the portions are pretty generous, about 2-3 pieces of meat per skewer with 14-15 courses, so come with an empty stomach.
This restaurant is one of my bf's favorite restaurants. He speaks highly about this place so I had very high expectation because he's pretty picky. The place is nice and atmosphere is good for date night. We arrived early and got seated at the front before going into the back where the yakitori area. The bar is high and the chair is low so you can't really see them grilling but we enjoyed watching them preparing and doing the work. It's my first yakitori omakase experience. I thought it won't be fulfilling like sushi but I'm surprised I couldn't finish the last course, that was a lot even though every course was just 1 skewer or very tiny portion. There are 90% chicken meats in the course, I feel like the price and the rating is overrated. For $150+ pp, I expect to see more rare or unique food choices/options. There was a dish with foie gras but it's actually just a sauce. Again, maybe I have a high expectation coming in the first place. I expect to WOW on every dish but clearly, nope. Even my bf said it doesn't feel the same after this visit, I guess there are way more options at this price point that can actually surprise us.
The selection of meat in their tasting menu was supreme! But I have to give this place a 4 star because their ac on their 2nd floor wasn't good enough to cool the space down( we sat on the corner and the fan they put near us didn't help much), and tables were placed too close to each other that we didn't feel comfortable. We were both sweaty for nearly 2h and it def affected our dining experience.
A very neatly aesthetic yakitori restaurant with great range of dishes. Staff is very helpful and pleasant throughout our omakase with pork / A5 Wagyu. Drinks were also enjoyable and complimented the overall experience. The many chicken pieces were flavorful and fun to eat, though unfortunately a friend's Wagyu pieces were overcooked and left much to be desired. I was able to swap a piece of mine for his, so fortunately not all was lost. 7.5/10, only feedback would be to maintain a better consistency before serving.
Went with the 14 course omakase special, and I felt like overall it was a good way to try a wide variety from the menu, but I wouldn't sell it really hard, because some of the dishes were good but not memorable. I would say that if you're pretty hungry, you can eat all of it. Notable mentions: chicken karaage, grilled and skewered spring onion, all of the skewered chicken was juicy and flavorful, the waygu, and the panna cotta. Service was incredible, the bathroom has a really fancy, heated bidet, and the overall atmosphere was chill and welcoming. I left satisfied and happy so I would say that if you haven't checked out this spot, it's worth trying out. If I were to visit again, I'd probably pick out a few dishes instead of doing the full courses.
Yakitori Torishin, the first NYC based Yakitori restaurant to earn a Michelin star, still serves up excellent skewers despite showing some signs of fatigue concerning its service and decor. Classic skewers like the chicken thigh and skin were readily available and cooked perfectly, however, service was slow and there were a surprising lack of options for additional skewers to supplement the requisite omakase selection. While many of the dishes were cooked well, certain skewers such as the quail egg were overdone, and lacked the precise execution that you would expect at these price points. Overall my dinner at Yakitori Torishin was thoroughly enjoyable. However, if you are looking for the best Yakitori in NYC, Torishin is excellent, but no longer the best option available at this premium price point.
The food was good and service was excellent, but I was unimpressed for a Michelin Star restaurant. We ordered the omakase, which included a variety of chicken parts in the form of skewers. Most of the skewers just tasted like juicier chicken thighs, and weren't that special. The knee gristle was interesting and my favorite because it was unique, but the other ones weren't memorable. Try out the bathroom though; it's a Japanese-style heated seats with a bidet.
I haven't been to Torishin in years so decided to try out their chef's select counter which was a pleasant treat. I've been to more straightforward (yet still tasty) yakitori spots and appreciated how more complex flavors were served at Torishin. We decided on both the pork and beef which I'm grateful for as surprisingly the pork was better than the beef. I feel it can be hit or miss at times with restaurants as sometimes the meat quality can vary. It wasn't bad at all but definitely had better melt in your mouth wagyu before. I'm fairly sure on another night I may enjoy the beef more. If you're into yakitori, one of a select few in NYC worth checking out.
My husband and I are huge yakitori fans, and have visited a few high quality omakase in both Tokyo and NYC. We went for the private omakase, food is good, but just a little short of being top notch. Like most NYC yakitori, this place mainly serve chicken meat rather than organs like liver, though you are able to order heart and gizzard as add ons. The skewers are tender and juicy, but the salt level is inconsistent, with a few being too salty. The appetizers were surprisingly good, with high-end sushi restaurant level sashimi and grilled fish. Loved the tsukemen, liked the dessert herb sorbet a lot. The counter space is a bit tight for nine people, I had to put my arms down and lean into my husband all the time, so I don't bump into the gentleman next to me. It gets hot towards the end of the courses, as the heat from the grill accumulated in the small room we were in. Service is great, very attentive and professional.
I happened to have a day off for my work trip and decided to check this place out as it had been on my list for awhile . I love yakitori and this place didn’t disappoint! The top dishes that stood out to me are the Chicken Oyster ソリレス which was so juicy and crispy and the Tsukune meatball made with duck and chicken, the duck added another element of umami I was not expecting! Another star was the duck and foie gras skewer, the foie gras just melted and was paired with mustard as well so this really felt like an experience in and of itself. I am not a huge dessert person but the kokuto brown sugar panna cotta really surprised me with how delicate the flavor was. Overall, there was only one or 2 dishes which didn’t completely blow my mind, which means the bar was just too high haha 😆 They also offer options for you to switch out skewers if there are some you don’t like or add more. They have a decent sake menu, though I would have liked a few more earthy, umami forward options which would have rounded out the heavier dishes! They all were floral and light which didn’t pair as well with the options like foie gras. Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with next time!
I enjoyed the omakase experience at Torishin. Everything was cooked well and was flavorful. I felt like I got to experience a variety of different skewers in a short period of time. I'm not sure if the price justifies the meal - considering portion sizes and the selection of skewers served to us - but I suppose it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was a little difficult to have a conversation with my dining partner because we kept getting interrupted by the waitstaff bringing the next item.
It was okay, experience was great. Had the omakase (chefs counter) Service and staff were friendly and knowledgeable. For the price, I don't think it's worth it. They charge $15 per 8 oz water bottle. Meat cuts were alright, small cramped space, limited bathroom spaces, and cost was higher than other similar places. Bill came out to $520 for a party of 3. Not bad but again compared to other likewise eateries, it falls short. We had the shiso sorbet. It was alright and contrasted well with the fatty dishes of the meat. Wagyu cuts were amazing, soup as well!
Too much over price for Yakitori. You need to pay 4 bites for $6.50. (One order of yakitori is at least $6.50) Yakitori is a drinking food for the common people. This makes the food prices very expensive compared to yakitori restaurants in Japan. (Generally, it is 2 to 2.5 times) I am in favor of upgrading regular Japanese food, but this place makes no sense. The atmosphere is very, very quiet, but compared to yakitori restaurants in Japan, it's so quiet that it's hard to digest.
While the good was fantastic, the experience and atmosphere was not! We were shoved into a cramped table on the lower level, where we were never able to get a moment of peace between the other diners trying to squeeze behind our chairs and the staff constantly hovering and passing by. Extremely un relaxing, and wasn’t truly able to enjoy the experience. The service was also far from Michelin star level. They brought my drink first and I had to wait another eight minutes for my friends drink to arrive, which was very awkward because I did not want to cheers without him having anything. They also would ask one of us if we wanted a refill and then walk away before asking the other. For $100+ per person I expected a high end experience, but it ultimately felt like we were at a busy McDonald’s.
Very pricey but very good. They serve types of yakitori here you aren’t going to find at other places in the city. The only dish that was underwhelming was the broiled sea urchin appetizer, which for $40 was 6 measly paper thin disks of Uni on a wooden tray with stale toasted bread. The house pickled veggies however were outstanding, with the pickled daikon radish having an almost Brie cheese like quality to its flavor. Vibe-wise the music was super chill covers of popular songs which was nice, though really only balanced out the bizarre tension in the place. Maybe because it’s Michelin star rated? The staff seemed very on edge like everything could fall apart at any moment. Despite spending a lot of money I didn’t feel like I could relax at the sake bar… and I had only been there an hour of the 2 hour limit they impose.
I love the idea of a set menu, but the execution really missed for me. The food was pretty uninteresting overall - lots of chicken, skewers over charcoal with very little creativity or depth. Everything leaned overly salty, and nothing stood out as memorable - aside for the rice dish. The space is also pretty bright and loud, which makes it a strange choice for a date night or dinner you want to feel a bit special. Add to that a fairly limited and uninteresting drink selection, and the experience just felt flat. Overall, I was disappointed and wouldn’t recommend it, especially given how many stronger Asian set-menu options there are in the neighborhood.
We had the omakase and the service was attentive but so slow. Probably the worst bite of scallop I ever had in recent memory that it prompted me to write this review. First off it’s over cooked and rubbery. For $24 you expect more, a lot more. They tell you to drink the sauce but I don’t want to drink buttered soy sauce. The skewers were hit or miss as well as the chicken heart being the only clear winner. What I don’t understand is how you mess up the oyster.
Shockingly bad service for a Michelin star restaurant. We had a 3 person reservation yesterday at 7:30. Great experience front of house but when we ordered the a la carte menu, our friend ordered first and then we placed our order not 5 minutes later. Very unexpectedly, our friend received all of her skewers in portioned sets before we even received one. So, we awkwardly watched her eat her complete her meal before we even received our first bite. When we raised the issue to our server, she explained the Chef doesn’t know who ordered what and is grilling in the order he received items. However, it’s not normal to entirely serve one person in a party their order before serving the others. It took 45 min-1 hr for us to receive even our first set. When we tried to cancel our portion (after our friend finished eating), the server refused to accommodate and went to tell the Chef to cook faster. I don’t blame the staff, but the restaurant needs to reevaluate its ordering system. In no world would I pay $50-100 to wait 1 hour for a chicken skewer. Would not recommend; spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
We went to celebrate my son's 25th birthday. I had eaten at the bar once prior and was really excited to have a full meal. We were 6, and one of our party fell ill and could not make it. We were prepared to pay for her meal but had hoped that since 5 of us showed up, they might consider not charging us - - no luck. We were seated upstairs, and it was a bit shabby. I have been back and forth to Japan many times over the past 40 years and am well acquainted with fine Japanese food and hospitality, and was sorely disappointed. (I felt as if we were being punished for being short one guest.) Including the charge for the sick person, the bill was over $1K, and most of us do not drink. I was so unhappy that I will not consider going again. It might have been an "off" night for them, but I will not risk recommending it to anyone.
I used to go from time to time when the omakase was right below $100, but stopped going after the price was hiked to $150+ish. I recently went because a friend wanted to go, and was utterly disappointed by the drop in quality. I think Yakitori places command sushi-like prices for the techniques, but the techniques were lacking this time for the price I was paying (too burnt on the outside, not juicy enough on the inside). I’m probably no longer going.
I’ve come a few times but this last time I went was really disappointing. I’m not sure if they are having with staffing but we had this server I think name was Suman who just seemed confused throughout the whole service. Like he didn’t know what was going on. We had questions about the menu and he just seemed confused and didn’t know how to respond other than an awkward laugh. We made reservations and came on time to the restaurant. They told us that there was a reservation after us and we would need to “hurry” this the was moment we just sat down. After ordering over $600 worth of food they reminded us there’s a reservation after us 30 minutes in 1 hour in and 1 1/2 hours in but we didn’t even get all our food yet. Annoyed we just paid the bill and left. And realized we didn’t even get all the food we ordered. The food is good. Atmosphere was fine except the other customers were really loud. But the service definitely felt unwelcoming. The busboy was actually more knowledgeable and more polite than our server. I wish we gave the tip directly to him instead. **UPDATE AFTER SPEAKING TO MANAGEMENT ** from two stars to one I was going to leave things as one review on Google but my experience at Torishin and speaking with the manager after made my experience even worse than before During our visit, the service fell far below what we expected. We weren’t looking for compensation or anything free — just acknowledgment and accountability. Instead, when the restaurant manager Ryu reached out after my review, the focus was only on getting me to change it. At no point did they genuinely address what went wrong or show any real concern for the guest experience. What made it worse was that, rather than trying to understand or resolve the issue, Ryu, pushed us to return and book their most premium tasting course. If we didn’t enjoy the service the first time, why would we spend even more money to go back? Clearly Torishin cares more about upselling than hospitality. And of course when I confronted them about this, they went radio silent. I honestly don’t understand how Torishin maintains a Michelin star if the standard of service we experienced doesn’t reflect it. There are plenty of other great places for yakitori in the city that treat their guests with respect. If you want a good casual time with good service Yakitori Totto, or Toriya. If you want a more elevated experience KONO does an amazing job, the space is amazing and the chef / service there is absolutely on point. My friends and I won’t be returning. I’m sure that won’t affect their business, but I do hope they take this as an opportunity to reflect and improve, because hospitality should be about care, not damage control. Forget the star. It should be Michelin recommended at best. TLDR: Food - 4/5 Service - 1/5
Well deserve 1 star Very disappointed The disappointment started from the first second I entered the restaurant. I had reservation but the front desk kept ignoring me and checking the guys behind me in. Not sure about the reason. Eventually I headed to her and force her check me in. And she provided coat check to all other customers except me. I asked for a coat check and we were pushed into the dining room before receiving the coat check number. When the waitress introduced the menu, other waiters and waitresses were moving the tables with making great noise. I did not hear anything about the menu. We chose $100 omakase and we added some other skews. They don’t tell us what will be included in omakase so we ordered quite a lot of duplicated items. And they did not include chicken skin in omakase which was wired. I tried to add chicken skin and was told it had been sold out. 👍 well done Only less than 50% items were tasty. The zucchini was undercooked. The soba tasted like instant noodle. The boiled bowl included half well done egg. Come on not everyone likes that all right? Chicken breast was hard and dry. Rice dish tasted like street food, chipotle is better than this bowl. Chicken heart was terrible… Smelt and tasted really bad… Worst yakitori experience in NYC.
We reserved for 8PM on a Sunday and weren't seated until 8:40. They charge $50 per person for cancellation fee. If you take cancellation policy that seriously, you shouldn't have customers waiting for 40 minutes. Also, if one person orders a Omakase or a skewer set, everyone else needs to order something similar or something more expensive. You can't order the skewers individually. You can only order them additionally to the main course.
I’m not sure how this place has a Michelin star with the way they treat their guests. We had a reservation and arrived on time. We had spent over $150 per person and the service we received was horrible. Incorrect food, forgotten orders and overall not attentive. When we went to complain the manager Ryu literally told us to book the chef’s counter if we wanted to get better service. Why would I pay even more for horrible service. This place does not care at all about their customers. Food can be great but if the service is bad. Why would you even bother going. This came direct from the manager himself so easily this is a management/owner issue
