Opinions de Sushi Izakaya Newark
Got takeout from here on a weekend I ordered a bunch of vegan items on the menu via their online partner. The food was ready in about 30 minutes - when I got there the chef was adding finishing touches. So I checked the restaurant interiors. It's a nice place decorated well. The food I liked the best here were the specialty rolls - both the vegan specialty rolls are delicious 😋 The avocado roll is also really good. The tofu was something I wasn't used to and didn't enjoy. But I will still be going back for the specialty rolls.
This place specializes in upscale items: sushi and yakitori. I tried four different yakitori items, including chicken skin, chicken knee cartilage, pork belly and honey sausage. The food was excellent and well-seasoned. The price was a little high, but that comes with the territory of carrying exotic items. This is definitely a good place for dates, special personal occasions, small celebrations or anything else that would merit the price.
Pretty slow Tuesday night. Got the himachi roll on special on the board. It was bigger than I thought it would be - and more expensive but I also didn't ask. Server was prompt on a slow night. One other table + one after I was wrapping up. Complimentary Miso was nice but nothing special. They have infused water with lemon and cucumber I think Chirashi Don was great. Almost couldn't finish the meal but I pulled through. Hopefully they're busier on the weekends would hate for a nice spot like this to shut down. Would come back again if I wanted to treat myself to a nice meal again.
Ordered the salmon tartar, kaisendon and the toast; everything was delicious! It’s been a while since a bite of food made me close my eyes in bliss but the toast in particular was heavenly. They were very prompt and attentive with the service as well. Overall an amazing meal.
Everything was delicious, chefs were true professionals. We just came back from our Japan trip and this place brought us back truly! It’s so nice to be in a izakaya again hearing all the cheers of beer glasses and the staff greetings as we entered. Definitely a gem because the prices were more on the cheaper side in comparison to the rest of the Bay Area What We Ordered: ramen, mango roll, squid (ika) nigiri, octopus wasabi, chicken karaage, miso soup
This is the first restaurant that I give 5s across the board. The food was amazing. Some of the best dishes that were better than other sushi places were had. The service was amazing. They were always coming to us with water refills and to ensure everything was great! Also my rating is a little biased as I am a huge anime fan. They had one piece and anime OPS/EPS playing the entire time. I really felt like I was in an anime cafe in Japan!
So glad that we found this gem on a rainy day! Salmon and uni were so fresh and creamy, we got to fulfill our seafood craving. I loved their detail in bringing beer in ice cold cup. Best place to wind down after long day of work :)
Amazing experience , high end sashimi at reasonable price . We ordered Octopus Balls , Chef’s Deluxe sashimi and Salmon Tartar . They were all very good .
This place is a hidden gem, service is great. One server, Belinda is always such a sweet and helpful person. The sashimi is such good quality, we always love the ramen, the karaage is some of the best we have had in the Bay Area. We’ve been here several times now and I highly recommend everyone to try it.
Quiet and well decorated restaurant. Uni can be more fresh and overall good experience here.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in town! I’ve been to a lot of sushi restaurants in the area… the fish is fresher than the rest. It’s tucked away in the corner of a plaza, but looks can be deceiving. Highly recommend sitting at the bar… ask Chef Han for some recommendations. You’re welcome!
Chef Anas and Manager Joe did it again. They prepared an off menu custom role for my daughter, then proceeded to lavish upon us one of Chef's creations. It was crispy shrimp, avocado, cream cheese and here's the best part...torched yes torched until that delicious smokiness permeates the custom roll. Absolutely top tier! I highly recommend this humble place because the commitment to hospitality comes through in everything they do!

I thought the food was absolutely delicious and quite reasonably priced. I ordered the deluxe hand roll set and it was my very first time trying hand rolls! The fish tasted so fresh and was seasoned perfectly. The perfect meat to rice ratio. I also got the takoyaki which is some of the best I’ve ever had! Had a sip of my friends veggie udon which also tasted divine. Everyone in my group loved what they ordered. One point of improvement is the service was very slow. It took 15-20 minutes for food to come out.
The food flavor was not bad, the deep fried calamari was pretty good, sake don with uni was pretty decent, the skewers was just so so, tsukune was too thick and the flavor was too peppery and under seasoned. Probably will try other sushi or deep fried items next time.
Stumbled upon this while looking for izakayas in the area. Got to enjoy it after gymming with my partner. The store itself is narrow with seating that's mostly for pairs. The service was friendly and attentive. We got a chazuke, chirashi bowl, hot sake, and a sushi roll. Chazuke - I would not recommend getting this. There is way too much rice and very little fish. The tea is poured by the server, and you can't add anymore. It just became mostly rice with a bit of tea and barely any fish and toppings. I would not consider a substantial meal, but it could be a nice supplement to your other foods if you just wanted more rice and something warm. Chirashi - I love looking at how different places make their bowls. I wanted a variety of fish, and the presentation and selection here did not disappoint. I usually don't finish a whole bowl all to myself because there's so much stuff. I enjoyed the salmon and tamago. All the fish felt soft and tender. The flower is a nice touch! I can't speak much on the sushi roll since it was my partner's but he really enjoyed it. I didn't get to try their skewers and they seemed a bit pricey (as izakayas can be) but I would come back based on this good experience!

The restaurant is fairly busy and the interior decor is nice. Food is OK: I got a mango crunch roll that tasted decent (a bit too chewy for ms). They charged ms a 18% gratuity for a 5 person party (feel like they should lower it to 15% at most).

Service and atmosphere were both great, but the food was meh at best. While the sushi rolls are affordable when compared to other sushi joints, but it was apparent to me that Kakushi skim on the fish to keep the price down. I felt like I was eating CA rolls with avocado despite ordering many different rolls. The taste was too oily to me, the fried soft shell crab soaked up too much oil, and chef used too much mayonnaise to mix the imitation crab, the rolls felt heavy and not refreshing enough to me.
The food is great. Probably one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area in terms of taste. The service is unfortunately truly terrible. One of the worst I have ever seen.

We ordered plenty of specials there. The toro and uni was good, can't deny that for getting them in a not expensive price though the amount is little. But the ankimo we ordered ruined the whole experience, sorry to say but that tastes horrible that we didn't take photo. It's not fresh and the fishy taste is not tolerable at all. Overall the menu does not worth driving far to try.

Extremely overpriced, mediocre flavor. Felt ripped off and definitely never coming back. We ordered the short ribs, bacon-wrapped scallops, unagi don, and shrimp sashimi to go. The short ribs were $18.99 for a portion that wouldn't even cover half a plate, was mostly bone, and was difficult to chew. My mom gave up trying to eat them after two pieces. The scallops were the smallest scallops I have ever seen, it was supposed to be four per skewer but it looks like they cut one scallop into four pieces and skewered that, for $7.99. The shrimp sashimi was literally four flat shrimp for $10.99. The unagi don was the only dish that was halfway decent in flavor, but still, for $18.99, it was not enough food for one person. Miserable dinner experience. I thought we were going to have leftovers, instead we were both still hungry. Photos below show two tiny dishes that were $18.99 each - and they didn't even taste good.

Went in with a horrible smell, the anime music was too loud, with the understanding of izakaya should be lively, but it’s just pure noise not atmosphere. Food is ok, not great for the price so keeping the star. Service is standard, not much attendance but enough. But every customer came in with the look noticing the smell and one kid just straight up covered his nose. I don’t know which is better, the strong cleaning solution smell of DDT or the odor, I wish it’s neither.
