We stopped off this morning for breakfast. It was on a Saturday at about 8 AM and we were able to immediately be seated. I had Kay’s Orcutt omelette, it was very good. Wife had Too much to drink last night omelette. She loved it. Service was nearly perfect and we certainly enjoyed our breakfast. We will come back again very soon.
Food and service were great! Classic American breakfast/lunch options in old town orcutt. A group of 5 of us went out, we were able to get a table within 10 minutes of arriving. Even though it was a Tuesday they were still rather busy. We ordered all breakfast options (served all day) we ordered waffles, French toast, an omelet, coffee, and a couple mimosas. Everything came out hot, fresh and quickly. Very tasty, simple, hearty dishes. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a classic diner type experience in Orcutt
I LOVE this little place! It’s a favorite of the locals and I wish I lived closer because the food is SOOO GOOD!! The inside is so cute and I love how they decorated with windows - especially the one they used as a shadow box. The staff is friendly and efficient and happy. There is a wait because Kay’s makes people happy and I am really pleased we went there. The prices are really good too. And my Adult beverage was perfect! I only have two comments - I couldn’t find the sign on the outside of the building (apparently it is very high up) and there isn’t a Kay’s closer to where I live. Thank you to Paige who was our lovely server on Saturday when we went and to the young man who made my drink - BRAVO! I thought I was done but I just remembered the biscuits - the most fluffy and light and delightfully perfect biscuits - Heaven!
This was a neat find in this small town! A restaurant with lots of personality, friendly and down to earth service and really good food. We started with the chile verde fries which were very tasty. The chile verde sauce was super flavorful and the pork very tender served over some shoestring fries. Delicious! I had the tri tip and eggs. The tri tip was outstanding. Smoked out back daily, it really had a nice smoke ring to it and tender to the bite. The spicy house made salsa really brought it up to another level! I ordered the biscuit and gravy as my bread side and wasn't as impressed. The biscuit was soft and fluffy, just perfect. The gravy...not so much. It had a flavor to it that wasn't super pleasant. It tried to be a nice white country gravy but it really didn't taste that great. Overall, a great visit and as mentioned - the service was excellent which makes it easy to recommend this place for a visit.
Well worth revisiting. Friendly attentive welcoming service and tasty food. Strawberry lemonade is quite good, but I could also say that about the smoked tri tip and more. Be careful of the blueberry muffin, it was so moist and delicious that I didn't notice there was paper around it.
Went for breakfast and everything was good. Brioche french toast was delicious, real butter, and the scramble was perfectly cooked and seasoned. They also have mimosa flights and other breakfast drinks. Loved it here. We came just before 8 on Sunday and it was already busy, so plan wisely!
We visited for the first time on a Friday night. We sat in the back by the bar and Billy served us. It was AMAZING and I credit it ALL to Billy! From the get-go he was friendly and helpful, gave great suggestions and even whipped up a few custom cocktails for us. I'll remember the great experience and we will be back! Highly recommend! *Second visit was as great as the first! Billy was great again and the live music was very fun!
To start- our friendly server Amy was the best. She really made the experience lovely! Next, the food: Fresh squeezed orange juice and lemonade perfect for New Years morning. The MSA omelette, the beast and the waffle with fruit were all fresh, so so so delicious and perfectly cooked. Homemade salsa was🔥 😋 We will definitely come back. Don’t miss out on Kay’s if you are in Orcutt.
This place is always a win, win for breakfast. I wish they would bottle their salsa...soooo delicious. Staff, as always, are very nice. Even though it has been 10 plus years since I have visited, it will always be a great place to stop by and have a good meal.
Just an ok place, but it was one of the top rated ones. Coffee n waffles just under ok. McDonald's Coffee is better ihop's waffles are better. Omelet was decent, but gravy over it ruins it. Blueberry FT. French toast bread not even ok, BUT the blueberry sauce saved it. BEST item here is the blueberry sauce. Sauce over bread worst idea, but to push people eat it as one, best idea i guess. The maple syrup the worst I've had. Watered sugar syrup. Light on the sugar though.
The service was good, the server was very attentive and prompt. The food was okay, nothing extraordinary or unique. The ambience is that of an old diner that was remodeled with a 90’s vibe…to each their own. However, I couldn’t get past the smell of smoke. I am very sensitive to smells, and the restaurant smelled like an ash tray. I’m not sure if it’s because maybe at some point smoking was allowed inside or because just as we were walking in a gentleman that was walking out started smoking right in front of the entrance and the smoke got inside during the going in/out of the restaurant. But it smelled awful.
Just moved here from out of town and a lot people told me to check this place out for breakfast/brunch. It was okay, I got the California Hash browns with a muffin. The hash browns were okay, and it was a large portion. The muffin came after I was done with the hash browns, which was odd. However the peach tea was really good! I would come back just for the tea.
This review is for 2 seperate visits: therefore the drop in rating... 5 star on 1st visit and 2 star on second so overall 3 stars. First time back in several years. Because I had moved away. Today was delightful! 😊 the food was excellant, cooked just ✅ right! And ❤ the service. EVERYONE is so sweet and caring!! The place has great ambiance and character. Very clean, decent prices for the portions they serve. Well worth the trip! Really have to compliment Kay's Orcutt Country Kitchen on the staff here. I love good food but more than that I LOVE NICE PEOPLE!!! ❤ Make sure you are hungry when you come here because the portions are huge. We brought home at least 50% of the food and will definitely enjoy it later. My grandchildren loved the kids menu activities, so did us big folks! Lol 😆 The pancakes are delish! Especially the Chocolate Chip!! I had the "Beast" Breakfast Special. It was so good 👍! The hash browns were cooked just right. I really dislike hash browns that are not cooked all the way. So 5 stars on these! YOU WON'T FIND NICER FOLKS ANYWHERE!!! THANK YOU FOR GREAT SERVICE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!!!! _____________________________ Yesterday we went back for breakfast. 5/30/22 service was good as always but the food was not unfortunately. One person orders the Tri Tip breakfast, but the tri tip was way over cooked, it was like pot roast. It fell apart at the touch of the fork as you can see in the pictures. It was definitely not the Tri Tip taste or texture. So it was not eaten but left to be thrown away. I tasted it and yuk! I had a pancake and it was dry, I had a few bites but left the rest. My son had Chicken n waffles and he ate his up so it was good. My grandson who's 14 had Strawberry waffles and he ate his up. For what it cost to eat here and the disappointing Tri Tip breakfast... we will not return. No one ever asked how we liked the food so we didn't tell them but I belive it's best to make a review. They were swamped but that's not an excuse for a drop in standards because they thrive on business being swamped.
Couldn’t wait to try this place, we were underwhelmed by the food. Prices are pretty high breakfast for 1 adult and 2 kids was $80. Service was good.
The French toast was a bit on the dry side and really tasted just alright. In contrast the bacon was fantastic, superbly crispy just as I'd ordered. The service was OK but I think they're understaffed for the customer traffic. My experience was that this place had a few cleanliness issues, but nothing grotesque. Overall, Kay's is an underwhelming experience considering the price of their menu. This wasn't a horrible meal but wasn't one drawing me back either. A mediocre 2.5/5 stars (rounded to 2 for the cleanliness issues).
Don’t waste your money, nor time. Walked in waited for about 15 minutes, there was open tables. They finally sat us, however it was in the very back of the restaurant bar area. It was cold, and very dirty. Dirty used table cover, menus were full of spoiled food. Off to a bad start. Food came and never received my eggs and bacon until my husband was done with his food and I was done with my French Toast. Only response from the waiter was it’s a bit busy back there, sorry! I even asked him once he finally bought it- to go please. Really really really bad experience! I’ve never been so disappointed, $50.00 not well spent. No sorry, no let me comp your egg that weren’t even cooked how I asked, NOTHING! Won’t ever stop in Orcutt again!!!!! Disgusting 🤢
