Very authentic, it maintains down home East TX friendly environment. The ribs are to die for. The sausage well flavored and very good. ( I am used to a courser grind ) I will be going back to try beef and chicken. The chopped beef sandwich is freshly smoked brisket chopped. Most places seem to do that differently (yesterdays brisket is chopped) I don’t think TX Monthly tried it, or perhaps they were looking for something else. Ribs description nice mahogany appearance with hint of sweetness and pepper with good smoke flavor. Tender almost fall off the bone. Cash gets. 3.+ percent discount

This was my first experience with Texas barbecue and it did not disappoint. The brisket, hot links, and ribs were outstanding. There's a big sign on the wall that says "no one leaves hungry". They ain't kidding. The portions are massive.

Homestyle sides, I haven’t had since I was little! Their potatoes, cabbage,okra, mac and cheese, fries, beans, cobbler! Ya’ll is my only words. We enjoyed every bite so much, no one even spoke. Food was eaten in silence, the atmosphere is country diner style! Come in and try it out. You will not be disappointed!

Always very warm, friendly, welcoming as soon as you walk through the door. Very quick to get your order and having it out to you in a timely manner. Always delicious food, great portions for you buck. While leaving after your meal, they will always tell you to come back and genuinely mean every word. Family friendly place to eat.

Fish on Fridays and BBQ every day. Often other selections like chicken and dumplings, pork chops, vegetables, slaw, potato salad, and all served plentifully. Try the Hercules! How about the mailman? Go for it.

Family owned, friendly awesome folks. I've eaten BBQ all over the U.S. and Shep's has some of the best ribs I've ever had. Brisket and hotlinks were good also. As good or better than Arthur Bryant's in KC, The Pit Authentic Barbecue BBQ in Raleigh, NC or Blacks BBQ in Lockart, TX Awesome sides and great price. The best BBQ in Palestine. My photos don't do those ribs justice....3 meat ribs, hot links and brisket with perfectly cooked greens, corn bread, fried okra and sweet tater pie. I couldn't finish it all. They are across from the Holiday Inn Express, but their sign is faded out and hard see.

Such a great barbecue joint. Bruce is always so welcoming everyone with a smile. The food is so good. I got the mailman which is French fries loaded with chopped up sausage and chopped beef then shredded cheese and some kind of tomato sauce. It was so good. They have specials everyday as well!! This place has been around for years! Come check out an iconic Palestine BBQ joint when you are in the area.

I love this place. Mr Bruce takes the time to know your name and know what you like. The hospitality and customer service is superior. It's hard to say which is better the BBQ or the people. The vibe reminds me of small town farmer America. It's lovely everything about it is lovely.

This is where the locals eat! This was evident by the constant stream of people coming in and leaving with big bags of take-out. The beef was tasty, but didn't have the traditional smokey flavor you would expect from a BBQ restaurant. But their sausage is awesome! Two thumbs up!! Now, they really need to do something about the black flies in the dining room though.

The classic Texas BBQ stop. All best and then some. I'm not a BBQ connoisseur but I have had enough to know this is good well prepared BBQ. The baked potato was very big and perfect, the brisket was sliced and not dry. The dinning room was cute with its wooden chairs. Most everyone takes out and there is a line out the door at lunch. Have fun!

The service here is super friendly and small-town. Everyone has a smile and they know all the locals. The portions were VERY generous on the 2-meat plate. The ribs were cooked perfectly and tasted great. The brisket was a little dry and could stand some extra seasoning in the rub. The BBQ helped moisten it up. Fried okra was good, but the coleslaw was a little bland, lacking that “bite” you look for. Overall, a great place for lunch or dinner.

Food was great, nice atmosphere!! Barbecue sauce could be better. That's the only reason I gave it 3 🌟
