Opinions de Downtown Cafe Pleasanton
Interesting place with a unique vibe and decor. The food is very good quality and the sandwiches are well made. The cookies might be a little high priced. It is definitely an odd place because so many people are there for takeout yet need maybe a physical redesign or getting rid of that large table near the entrance. The sandwich was fantastic the cookie was way too big and almost tasted raw. Given that it is a pleasant coffee shop the crowd is as obnoxious as you would expect Bay area crowds to be. Nobody wants to step aside or move around and would rather cut you off while you're standing waiting for your food. Nobody talks to anyone and nobody is friendly among customers. The staff is good and sure have the ability to yell out loud... If you know you know. Think of this as the coffee shop bakery restaurant for the obnoxious bay area yuppie crowd who are sitting on there tablet computers working on their resumes. Definitely don't go there expecting a conversation with a stranger.
Inklings has a warm and friendly atmosphere perfect for working or meeting a friend for coffee. Their coffees are always second to none. This peppermint mocha is the best I’ve ever tasted anywhere. Highly recommend. There’s seating near the coffee bar and more seating in a large connected room. Bathrooms onsite. Free parking lot and street parking next to building. Inklings never disappoints.
What a cool spot this is. Little Easter eggs everywhere as a respectful nod towards C.S.Lewis. Can you find the closet behind the bookshelf? Grab a gourmet coffee or snack and enjoy watching the busy streets of downtown Pleasanton. Don’t forget to check out the back room for an unforgettable experience reading through the word on Sundays with Calvary Tri Valley. 10 am every Sunday!
Great coffee, delicious croissant and sandwich, and such a charming old-style vibe. I really enjoyed my time here. I really recommend it.
What a cool café! I'm always on the lookout for new and fun places to go work and this fits the bill. Great hours of service, and I loved my drink. It's a super cool atmosphere as well with lots of books and decor reminiscent of an old café in Europe. It was super busy on a Sunday afternoon, that's why I gave 4 stars for the atmosphere.
One of my favorite cafes in Pleasanton. The quality of the coffee is extremely good - the various flavored lattes are super generous with the amount of spices/syrups. I also recommend trying the baked goods - super tasty, especially the almond croissant - which pairs really nicely with a dark coffee!
This place is amazing, best coffee I’ve ever had. I got the seasonal cinna roll mocha latte half sweet with oat milk. Their breakfast sandwiches were divine; soft bread, great sauce, and generous. Really nice staff who help you decide and explain how each drink is made and with what ingredients. Adorable downtown area you can walk around or sit on their patio and enjoy the weather.
Every time we walk into Inklings it feels like we entered someone’s “Speak easy coffee room” the decor in the place is filled with classic books AND there is a Waldo that hides in different places. They do have Seasonal drinks! And we happened to go when they had an Oreo Latte! AND IT IS AMAZING!!!!
Great spot with good coffee with a very wide variety and delicious flavors (check the menu picture). On a Saturday evening it was full and busy with street parking packed. Noise level was moderate and you will need to repeat occasionally in a conversation since it can get loud at times. Good pastries too, prices are fair and the staff is super friendly and helpful.
It was a very quick stop in but still thoroughly enjoyable. We got 2 of their coffee specials. They were not overly sweet and was a non acidy coffee. It was good enough that I would be willing to go back and try more. Their atmosphere was nice with a bar/library feel. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Easily accessible bathroom and free water. All in all fun vibes, nice hangout spot and good coffee.
We stopped here while visiting from out of town and LOVED it. Such a cute place, the theme is so fun! Loved the amount of space to settle in and read or work while enjoying a great cup of coffee. The staff were helpful and efficient. If they have the cookie butter latte when you visit you HAVEA TO TRY IT! So good! Almond croissant and the drip coffee were also great!
This is such a cute spot themed around the Inklings. Any fan of CS Lewis, Tolkien or the other two guys (😉)will be in love with the bookish vibes and decor. It can get pretty crowded and busy on weekends and at times that has made for some minor mistakes made on our orders. Last time we went one of our breakfast sandwiches wasn't labeled with our name so they never called it and ended we waited longer then we needed to and had to hunt for it at the counter. I'm pretty sure the cashier might have been new-ish and forgot to put the name on the order, she was rushing and she completed our order before we were completely done and ended up needing to do it in two transactions. In the end our order came out correctly even if the pickup process and the staff have always been nice so it's honestly not a deal breaker for us. We've never been there at a time when there is any seating free inside, but the outdoor seating is so comfy on a sunny morning. They have fun merch and you can even buy their house made syrups. The breakfast sandwich was delicious (Roasted Poblano Ranch), Earl Grey Latte was ok but didn't have a very strong Earl Grey flavor and was missing the grated orange peel on top, my brother enjoyed his drip coffee, my daughters cupcake was the only complete miss if I'm honest. It wasn't baked well at all, very dense and tasted almost undercooked. The frosting wasn't very good either, just super sugary no vanilla flavor or anything like that. My daughter barely touched it so I tried it to see what it was like and it definitely wasn't worth the price (I'm pretty sure it was around $6 or $8 ish 😵) I would maybe skip on the baked goods in the front case and opt for a hot item next time.
A great experience. Saw this place had several positive reviews and wanted to visit. First of all their ambience is amazing. Good to sit and work or chat with friends. Their service is amicable and quick. Their coffee is amazing. I wanted to try their affogato but it was seasonal. For fall they had pumpkin spice latte. I tried their cordon and it was good. It was fresh and refreshing. Will definitely go back to try more of their seasonal and house speciality drinks.
Nice cozy coffee shop. They have an extension of sorts that has live music over the weekends which otherwise is additional seating other days.. Went on a Friday afternoon around 3 and the place was full. Nice pastries but I would say, they are pricey. Took long time for order to arrive. Pastry took longer than coffee surprisingly
Got two breakfast sandwiches, do not waste your money. Barely any egg or microwaved bacon, just bread. The hot chocolate and latte were delicious but not hot, just warm. It had been a while since I’d been to Inklings, they used to have these incredible breakfast sandwiches but looks like they’ve downgraded. No need to return.
I came here to work. The drink options are not very interesting and it cost ~$7 for a simple iced latte with no caramel bourbon flavor. The other items on the menu have 0 description of what's inside the drink - apparently the items under the "crafted coffee creations" are actually teas instead of coffees which really confused me. Oh well, this place is at least very aesthetic and has cool interior decorations and plenty of tables indoors and outdoors for working. There aren't enough charging spots, but at least the wifi is decent.
After coming to Inklings about once a week for nearly a year, this was honestly shocking. My friend and I were quietly working on our laptops on 12/18. We’ve done this many times before. Sometimes we order coffee or food, sometimes we don’t, and it has never been a problem. Today, a server told us we needed to order something or leave because it was “getting busy.” Fine. We said we’d wrap up and maybe order something around noon. Then she came back again. Then a third time, and this time she skipped straight to: I'm gonna have to ask you to leave now. Here’s the thing: the place was not that full. There were open seats the entire time. No line. No customers waiting for tables. And yet we were repeatedly interrupted and finally kicked out over a “policy” that is not posted anywhere, not on the door, not on the walls, nowhere. This isn’t about having a policy. It’s about how suddenly and aggressively it was enforced, and how poorly management clearly trains staff to handle situations like this. If you don’t want people working in your café unless they’re actively ordering, that’s your right, but then be upfront about it. Post the rule. Communicate it clearly. Don’t single people out and escalate for no reason. After a year of being regulars, this left a really bad taste. This is not how you treat customers, and it’s not how you run a welcoming business. I wish you the best of luck.
I really want to like this place. I love the Devout coffee and their drinks are very unique and interesting. However I typically wait 20 to 30 minutes for a latte. As for the food mediocre at best and super expensive. Any hot food will arrive cold in the center. As for customer service, it is very hit or miss. I have seen several interactions from the staff that are just rude. I really want to like this place but the prices, poor food quality, poor customer service and inability to que up drinks efficiently makes it not worth spending my time and money.
