My family and I went on a Monday for lunch. The food was delicious, prices were reasonable for the portions and the service was great. The one thing I’d like to suggest to the waitstaff is to double check the battery on the iPad they leave at the table as the menu, is charged. Other than that, we had a great experience! My dad ordered the Bandeja Paisa tipica & the rest of us ordered the bandeja paisa con carne a la llanera. The meat was cooked exactly how we ordered it! The beans were AMAZING! We stopped for pandebonos at the bakery and should have grabbed 20 of them. Best pandebonos we’ve ever tried, mind you we’re Colombian! Highly suggest you try this place or yourself!
I love this place a lot! Hope this restaurant will make some space for dancing even once a week such as Bachata night! 💃🕺Thank you.
This is my 2nd time here. Today i had the Colombian Paiza which includes white rice, a piece of steak, beans, un pedaco de chicharon de cerdo, a small arepita and maduros! And had a Coconut Margarita. Also irdered the Marisco salad..you get lots of shrimp, clams & calamari..The ambience is family friendly. Great music playlist and good vibes 🍻🎼🎶🎊
We came from Florida to New York for vacation and visited our cousin in New Jersey, who recommended a few restaurants for lunch. He highly recommended Rancho Mateo, and it turned out to be an excellent choice! The restaurant is spacious and very clean, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Our waiter, Sebastian, did a fantastic job. He was friendly and knowledgeable, helping us choose our appetizers. His recommendation of the tostones with shrimp was spot on—absolutely scrumptious! For our main course, we ordered the parrilla for 2-3 people, and it was both delicious and generously portioned. In fact, it could easily serve more than three people. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Rancho Mateo and would definitely recommend it!
My daughter now lives in walking distance of this restaurant so she goes here often. I was visiting and she couldn’t wait to take me. This is one of the best Colombian restaurants I’ve been in the past few years. We walked in and were greeted warmly and seated fast. We didn’t know what we wanted but the waitress was very patient and came back often to check on us as we looked at everything on the menu. There was a slight language barrier but overall not a problem. The place is huge and a seat groups with no problem. There are TVs everywhere and I think it’s a great place to watch sports. I had the Entrana Mateo which has steak, shrimp, mushrooms, onions, and cheese. My steak was cooked amazingly well. The only problem with the dish was the amount of grease in the plate. It was a lot of greaser the bottom . The Rancho colada tasted so good. My daughter’s chicken and cream sauce was even better than mine. The night we were there they had a karaoke, good night. It was very nice and the sound system was really good. I would definitely go back!
I've been to many Colombian restaurants, but this one takes the prize. The food is absolutely top quality, the right texture, the tenderness, and the flavor it just all hits you perfectly. The service was amazing. They treat their customers with the utmost respect. The atmosphere was perfect. Great music. Everything was clean and organized. I can't wait for the next time that I visit here it is definitely a must place to visit.
The food portions are very generous. The food is very authentic Colombian. They will accommodate any need you may have without much reservation. That is very appreciated. The service is friendly and the beans were actually homemade quality 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. The atmosphere is very lively. The decor and theme of the restaurant is inviting if you want to have an experience as if you're eating in a ranch somewhere in Colombia but in all honesty, it is slightly more campy than authentic. The music is very festive but I thought at times was a little loud so it was difficult to hear each other at the table. I think restaurants sometimes should read the room. For example, if you have a very small crowd of people maybe don't have the music on full blast because it's difficult for people to even hear one another. Also does an early dinner crowd need to hear music on full blast as if it's the middle of a Friday nightclub? I would recommend this restaurant for a good time if you're going to go on a weekend. The priority of this review would be the food so I have to say the food was quite good!
Always had a great experience I just never understand why it's always so many different bartenders every time I come here. The food is always very good but I am kind of upset at the fact that they no longer give you dipping sauces that come in cups but rather packets which makes it a little bit more messy. But other than that it's a very good place to come with the family especially on weekends for brunch or lunch
The food quality used to be better, I think they've taken a bit of a ding. But I haven't eaten there very much over the last few years, not just because of COVID, but because during dinner they usually have music that's so loud it makes my ears bleed. I guess they're crowd likes it, but to their credit I was able to have lunch there and have a conversation successfully. In the past even lunch time I've had to scream so the person sitting 6 in away from me could hear me. Service is very friendly and very prompt, they definitely have that. And I like the overall feel of the place in terms of the atmosphere except of course for the loud music.
Came here for a local lunch with my mother. The service was so warm and the customer attention was top notch. I’ve been here when it’s busier and definitely enjoyed the quiet of a Saturday lunch rush rather than dinner rush. We ordered a fried snapper and a Colombian style ceviche. Both were decent and the fish was so big so definitely enough to share or take home. Menu is extensive and music was ideal for my Ecuadorian mother.
Food is good but nothing to rave about. Drinks are also OK but on the expensive side - a mojito is $15, and Happy Hour ends at 6 pm, when it generally ends at 7 pm in most places. Meanwhile, at 6:15 pm, on a Thursday night, the bar was almost completely empty and the entire restaurant was 10% full. Service is attentive and courteous. The music is on the loud side.
I live nearby in the area and have been here 3 times over the past 7 years. Food is good, service is very good (very nice staff), and music is great. Its spacious and comfortable to dine in. BUT the music is WAY TOO LOUD. Like deafening, permanent hearing loss loud. I see in these review that I am not the only one who thinks so. Please GM Juan Rendon, listen to this feedback and adjust the volume. We want to dance. We want to hear the music, but we should be able to talk, laugh, hear other people. Its literally painful to the ears. If this were resolved, I would definitely come here more regularly. I'm sure they are missing out on a lot more repeat business because of this issue. So easy to fix too.
So we went to this restaurant for Father’s Day once there we got a quick table but after giving our order in we had to wait 45 to 50 minutes for food to come out the place was getting busy I understand that but I feel the service could’ve been better I ordered a Grilled skirt steak with shrimp and plantains well done came out a little red with blood on and the plantain wasn’t well done super greasy my kids food came out good no complaints my wife order a soup never came out and so we had to cancel that didn’t want to wait longer and she order Colombian style shrimp ceviche the shrimp wasn’t well done and I ordered dessert It wasn’t good other than that I feel I could’ve been better service, but since the tip was already included in the bill I feel that that’s why the service wasn’t better it looks like she had too many tables to take care of this was my first time coming to this Restaurant if I go again I’ll update my review.
Really tricked me on the monjito. They know what they are doing if in fooling non Spanish speakers. I know some Spanish because I am Half Latina and Brazilian. But wow. They said happy hours for mojitos but the menu was not clear about which monjito. Either is super Monjito which is 25 dollar or the regular Monjito which is wack(8.99$). Make sure they correct the menu. The fry fish was a farm raised fish that cost you 30 dollars. And you its a farm raised fish baize it’s smells fishy. And a wild caught fish smells like salty water(like the sea. Salty ). I even packed the fish if you really want to find out. I left $30 for tips. So that’s is $322 for the bill. VERY VERY unhappy for the lack of communication on behalf of the server and restaurant. I will NEVER ever again visit. Please watch out. I recommend El Robles restaurant and Bar and this place.
We ordered the Entraña Mateo in our order which includes bacon, cheese, onions, and mushrooms on top of the meat, and costs roughly 40 dollars. But we called ahead and asked only for the mushrooms to be removed; we then went, picked up the food and returned home meanwhile we don’t live in any way close to the restaurant we’re about 30 minutes away from there. And we come home to see that we have meat but nothing on top so we’re confused when we see that nothing is present but we only asked for the mushrooms off. This place is going down the drain from when we last went apparently.
Restaurant policy to review Suppose to be mix empanadas chicken and meat we only got 2 meat and 8 chicken Pork ribs where cut in half full of grease My wife and I tried to take home a full bottle of wine only drank 1 glass but the manager said you can’t take the bottle Restaurant policy ( very wrong nj state law allows you to take a bottle home when you consume a dinner and you place in the trunk) I was forced to finish the wine Never again! I asked how much is the wine Waiter said $ 37 When I got the bill the bottle was $ 45 I am completely disgusted the way I was treated I just went back on my review Less than 1 star that’s what they deserved Please stay away from this place My wife just used the bathroom Very very very dirty! I just asked the waiter about the wines price and now he says the price I gave to you was approximately Everything was a disaster! I’m speechless…..
I’ve been coming here once or twice a year, mostly as a last resort. Every time I visit, I end up disappointed. Now they only serve wings as part of a combo — if you want 12 wings, you have to pay for two combos. On top of that, the sauces come in small plastic bags, which feels cheap. Even more affordable restaurants serve sauces in small containers, which is much more decent. The bartenders also seem to give better service to men; if you’re not a man, they barely pay attention to you. So once again, this place is fine only as a last resort. It’s better than nothing. Also, their sweet wine still tastes terrible, and they haven’t fixed that in years.
The space itself is really nice—spacious and well-decorated—but the acoustics are a major issue. The music was way too loud for a restaurant. It felt more like a club, which made it nearly impossible to have a conversation, even with someone sitting right next to you. The volume was so high that even the staff had trouble hearing us, and we struggled to hear them as well. It really took away from the overall dining experience. On top of that, the food was disappointing. I ordered my steak medium rare and clearly said it three times—the server even repeated it back to me—but it still came out medium well. It was dry, tough, and lacked flavor. I also explained that I cannot eat onions before ordering and the waiter confirmed the salad with my meal has onions but offered to substitute my salad with rice since I cannot eat onions. That was very nice of him, but he gave me yellow rice that had onions in it so I couldn't eat that. On top of that, the maduros, which I grew up on and eat all the time, looked and tasted old. I couldn't even eat them and others at my table agreed with the steak and maduros. We had a big table and overall, we were not happy with this place. The pandebono wasn't great either, the bottom was a bit burned which i was able to peel off... but overall not a very good pandebono... I lived in Englewood for like 15 years and would get them all the time... way better. I wasn't drinking alcohol that night so ordered a Shirley Temple with extra cherries, something I order when I don't feel like drinking, and it was awful. First off, not 1 cherry lol but it was mostly Grenadine syrup! So hard to drink. I had my gf, her sister, and her aunt try it. No one liked it. That all really took away from the experience. Also, one of my friends ordered a dirty martini and it tasted really strange more like pickle juice and liquor. She tried to drink it, but she couldn't and I don't blame her. A few of us tasted it... not good. She asked the waiter if she could trade it for a margarita because someone else got one and said it was okay. The waiter comes back with another dirty martini that was even worse! The piña colada was pretty good, weak, but not bad. Maybe stick with that. A few people at the table got it so I got to taste it. I will not be coming back here ever. Colombia Kaliente in Englewood is where its at- 10,000 times better.
