Opinions de China Lake Rowlett
Honestly some of the highest quality Chinese take-out style food I’ve ever had. Highly recommend the chargrilled teriyaki chicken
Very impressed with their food. Generous portion sizes and a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Fast service and delicious food!!!
I have lived in rowlett for about a year now passed this place so many times never went to the restaurant, but I just currently order some DoorDash and I really regret my decision not eating here sooner the food was fresh my kids are killing it and there is complete silence in my house 😂😂
YUMMY! We always order the bbq pork egg foo young and it is always delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for tasty food!
I’m too scared to go inside, for fear that I won’t eat there anymore, but their jalapeño tofu is hands-down the best in the metroplex!
Ordered take out tonight. Everything was freshly prepared quickly. The portions are generous. Highly recommend.
Had a long work day ordered the 308 the shrimp fried pineapple rice it was amazing... fresh and full goodness
I've always had an excellent experience great food, no complaints on this end. One word to describe them, excellent.
Always excellent food. This is our go to for Chinese food. They are fast on delivery as well.
Here for the first time. Delicious food and friendly server. Great prices ! Cute looking on the inside.
Great service, delicious food, fantastic pricing. We love to grab dinner to go from China Lake and go there regularly!
Food flavor & presentation was excellent. The new management shows promise for keeping customers to coming back.
First time coming here and we loved it! Great service and food was delicious! Will be coming again for sure!
Best quick chinese. I now drive across the lake instead of going down the street from my home.
I'm a repeat customer and the food is fantastic
Long-time popular Chinese food restaurant offering the usual dishes at reasonable prices. My favorite is any of the spicy versions, those with snow pea pods or those with straw mushrooms, all with take-out and delivery in the area. Simple dishes or full dinners available. Beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, veggie versions plus white rice, fried rice and the fixins - egg drop, won ton soups, egg rolls, etc.
The egg flower soup was amazing! Enjoyed the orange chicken and loved the crab Rangoon. Will definitely purchase from here again
First time trying this restaurant, the food was great! We had orange chicken and the treasure plate and they were soo good. I am excited to try the rest of the menu
I have eaten here with my family growing up and now with own my family. Always good and fresh and the prices are great! Service is friendly and accurate. Favorite place to eat.💚
There is nothing not to like about this place. It's cozy and welcoming. The staff is very friendly, the portions are generous and everything tastes perfect! It's the best Chinese I've had and I would recommend it to EVERYONE!!
Best Chinese restaurant I've been to. The portions are on point. The quality of food is phenomenal. Such a good and cheerful staff. If you're around Rowlett, go to China Lake.
The food is awesome, ordered take out twice from here.. The delivery guy was very sweet and the girl that answered the phone was super nice. I recommend the crab rangoons and sesame shrimp!!! Nom..
This place was so good. My first go to whenever i crave chinese food. Good customer service and the food is always perfect. And they have a drive thru just in case you don't want to go in. Please give it a try if you haven't done so. China Lake is one of the best restaurants in Rowlett!
Amazing tase and good portion. Do not waste your time with the Chinese place across the street.
No wait to be seated or give your choice of what you want to eat. Food is always hot and very good. Staff checks to see if ok and need anything. Have been coming to this restaurant for may years.
Don’t let the outside of the building fool you lol food was good, fresh & clean. Great service, nice peoples. Mangolian beef, sweet and sour chicken FIRE. Thanks
I have been coming to this place for YEARS... Suffice it to say that I'm typing this out while waiting for my food inside the restaurant! ((So delicious!)) The service is always great & even when they're very busy, they're always more than happy to help with whatever you need. To me, it's CRUCIAL that meals taste like they've been made with pride & passion & if pride & passion had a flavor, China Lake would have it down perfectly. If I could give this place 10 stars, I'd give it 12, it's that great! Great price for the portions as well. When I feel in need of comfort food or I'm feeling the need for a pick-me-up, I always come here. It's a tiny, humble place but everything here is perfect.
I've ordered twice from here and I've been impressed both time. My wife who isn't usually a big fan of chinese food loves their lo mein and sesame chicken. We didn't really like the ribs but everything else we have ordered from them has been great. And the price is just right as well. I see alot of other places charge twice as much as they do for less tasty food. I'll be ordering from them again.
In my experiences, the food is excellent. I am giving it 5 stars bc over the past 15÷ years that we have gotten takeout and delivery, the food has always been quite good. I'm not saying it is gourmet food. China Lake does delivery and pickup; I'm not sure if there is any inside dining. I have never had food that I didn't think was good. From main dishes, soups, rolls and appetizers, there is a very large assortment to choose from. For me, it is the go-to Chinese restaurant and they have been consistent over the years.
We have been getting take-out from China Lake for 32 years, ever since we moved to Rowlett. We have never missed a Christmas Eve. China Lake has changed hands several times over the years, but we still love it. The food is excellent, the way I remember Chinese food growing up in the sixties. They have nice portions, and they always get the order right. I hope China Lake never stops serving their food.
I know this place is older and maybe not be much to look at but the food is so good and they get it ready for you very quickly. You have to try the dumplings!
So much food! I got moo goo guy pan with steamed rice a side of sweet and sour shrimp and hot n sour soup. I ordered my moo goo with no mushrooms and extra water chest nuts and it was perfect. I loved the soup. I wasn't to crazy about the sweet n sour shrimp but my mother loves it so she ate my portion. I will be coming back again the next time I come to visit from New Mexico.
Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is a cute little place with tasty food run by delightful people. I've lived in Rowlett for nearly 17 years and have been a regular customer at China Lake that whole time. Everything I've had from there has been quite good. And if you want delivery, they're ridiculously fast.
Char grilled teriyaki chicken dish, the flavor was exceptional. Hot and sour soup was fresh. Happy I finally tried this place!! Kudos to the chef.
This may be the best Chinese restaurant in DFW! The portions are great, the prices are not bad at all and service has always been great as well! Been there 4-5 times the last year or two and always amazing!
THE BEST!!!! I’m vegetarian and i’m not kidding when I say the ORANGE TOFU IS THE BEST THING IVE EVER EATEN. nothing tops it. The cream cheese rangoons paired with it is what I would have for my last meal. The only Chinese food i’ll eat. I have been coming here since I was a kid and it never disappoints. The bad reviews are haters.
Have been enjoying their food for years now. We usually order the steamed dumplings and combo fried rice and have it delivered. The food is always hot when it arrives, the portions are VERY generous and the wait is reasonable.
I love this place. You get a lot of food and it is always really good. My favorite is their combo fried rice and their combo lo mien. Delivery is really fast 90% of the time! They also have a drive thru. Really nice people too.
Not sure why all the bad reviews. I have lived in Rowlett for 10+ years and gotten this place many times. The food is always good and the service quick (get delivery mostly). Arrives nicely packaged and hot, and they deliver for free! Never had a problem with crickets in my food like a certain other Chinese resteraunt around town near the former blockbuster. Best (Fast) Chinese food in the area for sure.
My family loves the food!!! Its always hot and fresh. The portions are generous, tasty, cooked to perfection! Delivery time is usually less than what they tell you!
Awesome service awesome portions! impressive 👍 I recommend the shrimp and vegetables the shrimp are as big as my leg. Lol And definitely the sweet sour chicken. The order was for two but they gave us enough food for six make it 5 maybe 4 🫶💯% May You And Yours Be Truly BLESSED!
FINALLY!!! I am from Michigan and grew up eating the best Chinese food. Since moving to Texas, I haven’t been able to find anything that I enjoyed…. until today. This place WAS SOOO GOOD!! I had the Szechuan beef and it was amazing. I am so happy I found China Lake. I can’t wait to try more of their food!!
There is nothing impressive about the outside of this place but for the last 7 years, there amazing Combination Fried Rice has stayed the same. Everything else I have ordered has been really good too; people are friendly, food is fresh and clean, reasonably priced and very consistent. It's just an older location with great eats. Stop driving by and give the take out a try! Again, I recommend the large combo fried rice to start, my litmus test for any Chinese food.
Very sweet family very good fresh food
Tried this place for the first time last week and I loved it! Got it again today and it’s even better than before. Their spicy dumplings are soooo good! Spicy but very flavorful. The veggies in my happy family were so fresh. Even the chicken nuggets I ordered for my son were homemade. Definitely my new favorite spot!
Very good food. The portion size is very generous and the taste is genuine Chinese (of course as we know it here in America). It seems to be a family run restaurant and everyone that helps us was sweet and nice. For sure a place to go back.
We have lived oin Texas 7 years and this the 2nd Chinese restaurant we have visited. It was nice. I was a little disappointed that we were the ONLY dine in patrons today. It seems everybody else took it out or drove through. But...it was a pleasant experience. I even learned to say thank you in Chinese>siete> sounded Spanish to me. My wife got the Seafood Delight with shrimp and crab and veggies . I got the Teriyaki 🐔. Huge plate. I am used to the rice and veggies being all fried together on the grill. This rice came in a bowl, which I dumped on top and mixed with the veggies and poured sauce on top. Very delicious. And I took 2/3 of it home. Nice, friendly employees. Um...forgive me for being so verbose...but I tend to be that way, me being an extroverted introvert and all!!
My Shrimp Egg Foo Yung was Awesome as always. The Shrimp Fried Rice was on point not to mention the Sweet and Sour Chicken. We traveled from one side of Dallas to our residence in Fate and stopped to get our meal. We have never been disappointed. Thanks China Lake.👍💯💜
Why is this place so damnnn good!?!? It hits all the right spots for that late night cravings. Try the pork egg foo young, or the combo lo mein. The egg drop is 🔥🔥🔥.

This place is so underrated! They have really good food, cheap prices and the staff is very friendly. My personal favorite is the seafood soup
Excellent food. Huge portions, plan on taking some to go.
Joi extremely friendly and professional. I truly appreciate her expediting my order.
The food was amazing. Fresh made crab rangoons were the highlight of an amazing succulent Chinese meal. I was craving Chinese and they hit the spot. Free delivery too
My husband & I tried the lunch special here on 11/21/25. They include the * best * eggrolls with pork. Really, really yummy, not greasy just great tasting and not cabbage only. He tried the lo mein noodles and I had chicken w/vegetables. Fresh, authentic and cooked while you relax. The son said that this place has been run by his family for 35 years! We love supporting family run places and China Lake in Rowlett is a winner !! Older place with some Chinese pictures/ plaques…not fancy but excellent food and value. Try them… you won’t regret it!!

Small staff, super busy. Felt bad asking for anything, so I got my own extra napkins. Food was delicious and portion sizes were huge!! Will definitely be going back!!
Decent food at what appeared to be a smaller family-owned restaurant. Employees were friendly and fast on my visit.
Spicy wontons were fantastic! Spare ribs were overcooked. Would still order again for the spicy wontons.
Fantastic food and service. Large portions and friendly staff. A place that I will come back to many times.
I love the vegetable fried rice. They know my order when I call lol Always friendly and fast service.
Decent Chinese food in Rowlett. Garlic Shrimp was very good. Sweet and Sour Chicken was Ok, just very plain. Soups were good.
They have such a great and expansive menu. The family meal deal is a pretty good value and the family meal for 2 will usually feed my family of 4 when we get the large size entrees. The flavors are great but can be a bit on the bland side and need a tad bit of soy and spice to get your tastebuds going. Outaide of that, no complaints. We always get it to go and the inside is super dated. Great place to grab a quick dinner to take home and watch a movie.
Probably the best Chinese food in Rowlett, however, not the best Chinese food I've ever tasted. We get delivery from here a lot since we don't have very many choices to choose from that would deliver to us. They give huge portions of food so be prepared to eat a lot. It's pretty fair in price and it always tastes pretty fresh. I think the rice could taste a little better so I add lots of soy sauce. I don't like how they use only white pieces of chicken for their Chicken Fried Rice. I like dark meat, but I've gotten used to it.
Food here is very good but every time I order, it always seems to come out costing more than I expect. Like I order a combination plate($9.55) and crab rangoons($4.25) and it somehow comes out to $17.xx when it should actually be about $15 even. It's very frustrating .
Rice noodle is mid. No flavor or seasoning but kinda burnt charcoal taste. Vegetable rolls are soggy and squishy Chicken roll is mid. Need better ingredients
Mediocre food, but it's fairly cheap. I got a spicy dish and a non-spicy dish and couldn't tell the difference between them. If you're looking for quick American "chinese" standards, this place is okay.
Fast, friendly delivery. Food was very hot! Beef broccali & orange chicken were both very good. Lo mein was disappointing. Noodles were soft, almost soggy & nneded some flavor. Overall, a good spot. Glad I tried it.
As is the case for so many mom and pops places like China Lake, it totally depends on the day, time, and whoever's cooking/providing service that determines your experience because it can be really night and day here. Sometimes the food is really fresh, hot, flavorful, and has been our go-to for takeout. However, we've also experienced the exact opposite here and there's really no explanation for that. So I'm just going to chalk it up to what I said above: perhaps some of the people here are better cooks than others, more careful about selecting ingredients that are not past their due date (or borderline), and are just friendlier and more efficient than the others. It's a crap shoot, but I would say 75% of the time it's reliable, affordable, and fresh.

I remember going to China lake way back in the early 90s. I forgot that they did not open until 4 p.m. . So I have to go one day when I can go around 4 to try it out it used to be good and I don't remember how well it could have changed since then it's in rowlett on 66 so I just have to try it again that's why I only gave it two stars
Terrible is an understatement. I have tried China Lake three times and it gets worse every time. We got delivery tonight and the food was not edible. The beef tasted old and of poor quality. The chicken dish was not good either. Save your money.
This place is doing OK for a small restaraunt but this place has some issues First of all, the food, meh. They never put enough in the large for a family of four, mostly for two people can satisfy hunger, but its not alot for 4+ people. The other thing is that its really quiet when theres not alot of people, the TV is always muted so... eh. Also the place was quite popular back in the day (from what I heard), but it died down. Also from what I heard that really lowers the morality of the restaraunt is that once they killed a CAT and SERVED it as a DISH, pretty disgusting and sad. Would not reccomend going back
First time trying this place so I played it safe and ordered sweet n sour chicken, a chicken egg roll, and their veg egg rolls. Everything was bad! Fried rice was bland and had no veggies, chicken is questionable and I think undercooked cause not one piece was crispy. Also came with no carrots or pineapple like everywhere else but instead the crunchy things that usually come with soup. Egg rolls were gross and also undercooked. Don’t like making reviews but I honestly could not eat any of it.
I stopped here for lunch because it looked like a place to sit down. I walked in and the person asked me if I was there for to go and I said no. He stood there so I just grabbed a menu and looked at it while looking at the picture menu. I was asked 2 times if I was ready to order, I indicated I have never been here so I don't know what I want. I was asked a 3rd time so I just chose the sesame shrimp and asked for very light sauce. I paid for my meal and then asked if I could eat it in the dining area. The cashier looked at me and said I thought you wanted it to go? I told him that I said no when I first walked in. The cashier told me that he did not know what I wanted because when I walked in I was on my cell phone. (I was on my cell phone when I walked in and ended the call as I walked in the establishment) The cashier made me feel like eating there was a problem now that he had rung up my ticket as a to go order. I told him forget it I will just take it and eat at home. I got my food and sadly the shrimp were drowning in the sauce. The portion size was more than enough. I would not personally visit this place again unless I was in the mood to pay for food not made the way I specified.
China Lake - Rowlett, TX The interior of the restaurant feels a bit run-down and could definitely use some refreshing and a deep clean. I ordered the Mongolian beef, which, unfortunately, was overwhelmingly salty and quite ordinary overall. There wasn’t anything particularly remarkable about the dish—it was mostly rice, with a very skimpy amount of beef. They were generous with the rice, but I’d have preferred a better balance with the main ingredient. I definitely would be a bit apprehensive about what's waiting in the kitchen! A mess, an experiment gone wrong, or a stack of dirty dishes? Or maybe it's something more mysterious, like an unknown "creation" that I would rather not confront. In a nutshell ... my dining experience really missed the mark. It’s frustrating when a place with high expectations doesn’t live up to the hype. Whether it’s the food quality, service, or ambiance, sometimes the reality , or my experience, just doesn’t match the reviews. In my case I will not be returning to this restaurant.
I didn't expect my socks to knocked off but this wasn't good. Portions were big. The spring roll was ridiculously small and soggy. The orange chicken was a weird texture like ligaments. The sweet and sour chicken was good. Maybe ordering on a Sunday night was a mistake. I ordered here after reading other reviews....so this is confusing

This place used to be so good. I used to live in Rowlett many years ago. And I came back back in December of 2023. I was looking for a Chinese restaurant. And I found this one. They used to give you so much good food. Now it's all vegetables and brown sauce. Last night I ordered the Happy family and all they gave me was the family. Nothing happy about it. Very little meat and a bunch of veggies. And this is the third time this has happened. So the first two times I was like okay let me check and see. But third time's the charm. They don't want to give you any meat or seafood whatever. They just want to give you lots of vegetables and rice. And they charge a ridiculous amount for the vegetables and rice. I'm not vegan or vegetarian. So that probably will work for those people. I need protein and lots of it in my food especially if you give me lots of vegetables. So you give lots of vegetables you should get lots of meat. So for that reason I'm more than likely will never return again. And I was a lawyer customer. But they have really slipped on quality of food and the amount of protein in the food.

Needed to pick a 🌟 in order to make a comment. I have been eating here from back in the 90's but had stopped because I felt the food wasn't as good as it use to be - I thought it was me but after reading many of these comments, I see I'm not alone. The biggest bomb 🔥 - the final straw is the comments about the cook spiting in the food. I'm done.
Food ok, but they nickel and dime you for everything else. Sweet & sour sauce for food you purchase, they charge for it. BAD BUSINESS!!!!
I ordered egg rolls, beef with mixed veggies, and steamed rice. It smelled like literal poop, and there was a black hair in it the rice. It’s wasnt super short either. The egg rolls were soggy in the middle, too. It’s like there was fluid in the middle. This was my first visit, but I’m disgusted and will not be returning.
Went and ordered tonight. Food was terrible. The Sesame Chicken was soggy and the rice was old and crunchy. Definetly would not recomend this for a last minute dinner. If your looking for a chinese place that delivers in Rowlett, please find somewhere else. Do not go to this place...
Been coming here for 12 years and the food is good but after my last few experiences won't think to spend money here ever again. The lady who answers the phone on the weekends needs to work on her customer service big time. Or this place will lose more loyal customers like myself in the near future.
This place is garbage when it comes to descriptions. Their “little spicey” is extremely spicey, I have diabetic gastroparesis so too spicey of stuff makes me vomit uncontrollably and this did me in. Get your spice levels done right according to statistics, not your own tolerance.
ATTENTION EVERYONE ON THIS PAGE!!!!!!! I usually don’t post anything on here but I have something to say! My friend was craving Chinese food so I recommended CHINA LAKE restaurant on 66 next to dalrock. She ordered her food and was watching the cook make the food in front of hers, and saw him SPIT IN that person’s food. She waited to see if he really did that and watch the cook make her food and WATCHED him SPIT in her food too!!!!!!! She asked for her money back and went somewhere else. What can be done about this?! I can’t tell you how many times I myself and my family have eaten there!!!! Is there a number for the health department that we can call? Come on Rowlett. Also, CHECK YOUR FOOD WHEN YOU GET IT!!!!! If she didn’t watch the guy cook it, she would’ve eaten some nasty spit and who knows what people have nowadays!!
Every time... Try to phone order and they never get it right, food is bad and service is even worse. Don't waste your time or money. Pick another place. Shiny Wok is a good choice or Pho Panda if you like Vietnamese.
I went there with my son and I couldn’t even eat my food because the smell of this restaurant was so bad. The food was OK but I will not return.
Thought I really enjoyed this place until I found a Roach leg in my Sesame Chicken tonight. Will not be ordering from this establishment ever again. I have never been so disgusted with a restaurant to write a review until now.
DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM, THEY WILL ROB YOU!!!! Made an order September 22, for $22. Please tell me how I now have 4 charges and all different amounts??? AND THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE, THEY DONOT LISTEN TO SPECIFIED INSTRUCTIONS AT ALLLLLLL!!! HOPE THE HEALTH DEPT SHUT YPU DOWN, AND CHARGES OF THEFT HAVE BEEN FILED!!!!!
Ordered delivery. First time trying their food. Tasted like it was made on a dirty burned grill. Had to throw it away. Should have looked at reviews first.
Horrible food. Rice was old, chicken was dry, bland and very old. The rice had that soapy taste you get when you don't properly rinse the pans. 60 bucks worth of food and it was just terrible. Do not waste your time or your money. Basically the run down, faded, dilapidated appearance of the restaurants exterior is an exact depiction of the food they serve. To boot they even got the order wrong (cashew and pineapple chicken are not the same thing). NEVER AGAIN
My spouse ordered from here last night. The meat wasn’t cooked the way he wanted. The rice was not fully cooked. We left this out all night to take back he still had 90% of the food there. Now mind you it was almost closing time when he ordered. So we take it back they don’t want to refund the $ but this was our 1st and last time eating there. Chinese food not the same as it use to be
First, it took 45 minutes at 2pm to get a delivery. Considering none of the food was prepared fresh, there's no reason for this. The wontons in my soup fell apart as I tried to grasp them with chopsticks. Like it was at least 3 days old. It was gross. The general tso's special had extremely dry chicken, once again seemed like it couldn't have possibly been prepared that day. The cheesecake that I ordered was straight from the store. Give me a break. Never again!
Totally disgusting!! Boneless ribs full of fat, Orange chicken tasted weird! Not willing to risk being food poisoned. Crab Rangoon all cream no crab not even a green onion shallot I’m seriously thinking that orange chicken was cat it did not taste right
Horrible never eat there gross orange chicken chicken fried rice not not eatable make you sick it did me 4 bites stomach sick
normally good, but today. christmas eve 2025. AWFUL. TASTED, OLD AND OFF. i threw up
I ordered the moo goo Gai pan.. it's supposed to be a mixed medley of vegetables and white meat chicken breast cuts with side of rice.. this to go plate I was given barely had chicken and tons of dry white rice as if it was the main course.. The egg roll was tiny as all heck... Never seen such a cheap and stingy box of Chinese food ... Will not be returning .. the place across the street Chef Chens really gets it right!!! Sorry Chef Chen I will never cheat on you again . Lesson learned!!!
I usually eat here all the time. But tonight… NO! My food was overcooked and burnt. My wings were burnt and those were a first try. My lo mein had a burnt and Smokey taste like I can taste the oil they used which is gross. They went downhill for sure.
As a party of six we walked in to the restaurant. We were immediately greeted, which was nice. However, as we started to look around the restaurant, we noticed that it was just visibly dirty, no other customers were there, yet several tables had dirty dishes and such all over them. There was a child sleeping in the booth of one of the tables. Nothing about it was appealing, the disarray and uncleanliness was visible everywhere. We kindly told them we were not staying, and turned around and left. When we first approached the parking lot, I had wondered how the inside would be, the landscaping on the outside was also in complete disarray, and clearly had not been tended to in quite some time.
Honestly the food was barely edible. We ordered delivery so can’t speak to service or atmosphere. The food had that weird cardboard stale taste to it. My husband loved his orange chicken and the chicken and broccoli was decent. But the lo mein, spare ribs and fried rice tasted horrible.
I ordered a chicken lo mein... What I got was very few noodles scattered all over the box with barely any chicken in it .. being me . I went up there and asked that they give me what I paid for and for the price.which was actual food on my plate.. $11 for half empty box!!! No way... AND they are very skimpy on the meat... My friend ordered there before and apologized for not giving me a heads up..her meal barely had meat as well but tons of hard white rice. Just so Skimpy... One place that will give you what you pay for is right across the street at Chef Chen. They are amazing.. big portion chicken lomein.. enough for two.. and the taste is phenomenal ... China lake needs to close it's doors if they are resulting to cheating their customers 💯👈🏽
