Love their food but I watched my burgers stand on their service counter more than 5 minutes while the server opened 2 boxes of individual packets put in bins and placed where they were supposed to go while my burgers and us waited patiently... Good thing there wasn't a lot of people...
I love going out to buckhorn in winters but it's gotten a little bit expensive and they've changed their menu around more ala carte than it used to be previously and that's disappointing. The foods still fantastic and their buckhorn grill did not disappoint. We got the feast for 2 and it was 2 sides of meat, 2 sides, a salad and some rolls as they were out of the cornbread unfortunately. Still deliscious, and we were both full. I'm not a fan of Cole slaw but their Apple raison slaw was actually delicious.
Nothing much to say besides that I love this place. I eat here every chance I get. My favorite is their tri-tip. Perfectly seasoned, you can't go wrong.
This is a great location in Sacramento with full service & full bar. Friendly staff, clean environment and the great food you come to expect from this food chain of Buckhorn establishments. I've had just about everything they have on their menu and have never had any complaints. It's all good!
Maybe a touch pricey but the food is pretty good. The weekday bartender is super cool so I recommended sitting at the bar.
They have good food, I like there salads. Great service, nice staff.
I had the sliders. I love both of them. The garlic fries and onion rings are delish.
We love this place! The food is always good and they're quick too! My kid loves the chicken tenders. I get the pulled pork tacos (which is weirdly some of the best pork I've had in California.) and the pretzel some times. We have all ordered their salads before and they're the best. They're bigger than most places - with lots of options. I love the spinach one. We sometimes get the churros, and they're hit or miss - so I'd go in to order those.
Come to this location every few months and never disappointed,. They are open for delicious tri tip with grilled vegetables at reasonable prices. When I order take out, it is always ready from this location in due time and is well packaged. During the few times I do come in and sit down for food, service has been good and food has been served timely with good customer service.
The service is always good, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is laid back.
Solid food, with lots to choose from, and good prices (especially for the ample portions). I'm not really a fan of smoke flavor so BBQ can often be disappointing for me. The ribs were not overly smokey and very enjoyable. Could have been a bit more tender but had good flavor. Very kind wait staff and bartender. I appreciate the self-serve wetnaps at the condiment bar, because I made a giant mess whilst tackling my ribs like a savage animal.
11/12/2025 Food = 5 stars Tri tip is deliciously seasoned. Medium well is perfection. Broccoli salad is very good. Garden salad is crisp and fresh. Corn bread is oh so good had 6 pieces extra to go. Service is great! Ambiance is great as well
Stopped in and as always, was a great experience. The atmosphere is so welcoming, the music is not too loud and they serve my favorite seltzer Happy Dad fruit punch!!
Buckhorn has always been one of the staples in downtown Sac, and still is the prefect spot for barbecue cuisine. The staff has always been friendly, including at other locations as well, the restaurant environment is modern and welcoming. Takeout, which is what I usually prefer, allows for you to pick up quality food if you are in a rush. I ordered the tri tip sliders side and broccoli salad, tri tip is always a bomb🔥🥩
My husband and I were looking for a new local BBQ place and we found Buckhorns. We decided to give it a try. The service was great. They greeted us as soon as we walked through the door. You order at the counter so it feels like a fast food restaurant but at the same time, it felt like a seated restaurant. They have a bar, self-serve drinks and a variety of different bbq sauces. We have been there two times. We are planning to go back again and again.
My wife and I rode passed this restaurant yesterday and we couldn't believe how crowded it was at 5pm. So, we decided to get up and get lunch to checkout the hype. Well......simply delicious. Tri-Tip burger was simply delicious. Grilled veggies banging and I don't eat mushrooms but I ate them. Along with the red peppers, zucchini, and sweet potatoes. Food was so good and we will return.

Melts in your mouth. When you're craving some delicious Mac n cheese... oh yeah, this is the place. Not to mention, the tri tip is tender and tasty!! The restaurant is clean and inviting. I didn't even know that they have a bar inside the restaurant too! I'll be back soon!!
I got the Sausage Platter and Asian Tri Tip Bites. This restaurant has fast workers. Bomb food. Clean restrooms. Nice bar.
The quality and amount of food you get is awesome for the price. Highly recommend the place. We got the family feast and it was plenty for five adults and 1 kid.
I really enjoyed my sandwich. The ingredients were obviously top notch and I really liked how tender the meat was. The tots were great too.
The menu choices are plentiful. Food here is very good. Their broccoli salad is delicious and my favorite. This restaurant is clean and quite popular and the wait staff are friendly.
The food was excellent, although the pricing was more than expected for the sides. You have to go up to the counter to order, which was quite difficult for a table of disabled seniors. Would suggest they have staff that can bring the ordering pad over to the table for special circumstances. Food came fast and was sooo tasty!!!
Very good food! Husband had 1/2 lb pulled pork and I had a bacon burger. By far one of the best burgers I've ever had! It was delicious!

Always great for a casual hangout, relaxing time with the spouse, or a take-out feast. Some locations are better than others....the Freeport Blvd and Howe Avenue locations are great. Food is fresh in those spots, and ample indoor and outdoor seating make them great meeting spots for business or pleasure. The downtown Sac location? Not so much. Virtually no seating, and the vibe is more McDonald's than anything. Strange location and design decisions, for a restaurant so close to a huge public entertainment venue like the Music Circus.
Went in and got the 12 oz tri tip plate. Very tasty. The meat was cooked really well. The mashed potatoes is one the best I’ve tasted. Be prepared to wait if going around dinner time.
We tried Buckhorn BBQ this weekend at an event at the Heringer winery. I’m not 100% sure of the affiliation between the store front and the food truck as it’s a pretty basic menu. I opted for the Tri Tip. My wife opted for the chicken sandwich. I’ll try presentation wise, it looked very plain. It was literally just shaved tri tip and carmelized onions. No pickles or jalepenos or anything else to give mix up the texture. While the meat itself was flavorful and, it was a salt bomb and it was borderline inedible The caramelized onions were really flavorful though. And the bun was nice and fresh. The charbroiled sandwich was really good. It had a nice flavor and it was juicy and not dry. The tomato and lettuce are kind of an afterthought and the lettuce ended up getting steamed. Again, some pickles or acidity would have gone a long way. Or even chipotle mayo or something else to balance it. It was a nice portion size though and the wife really enjoyed it. Fries were super basic and frozen. If you only have like 4 menu items, you’d think you could make some fresh fries? The sauce selection was skimpy. Two BBQ sauces and horseradish. One of the BBQs was overly sweet. The other was decent. All in all, it was a filling meal. The Tri Tip really left something to be desired though. You have another BBQ competitor (Brody’s) near the winery whose Tri Tip is really really good. Something to consider. Service was friendly, so that bumped up the score as well. 3.5/5
The meat is amazing but I was shocked at the size of the side veggies . The frying pan in their picture online must be 4” around.

Unfortunately this location is hit or miss. Today the burnt ends were burned and dried out. Portion of tri tip was disappointing. The garlic fries were the shining star for this visit.
Ribs are usually perfect. This time they were very dry. I don't live close enough to return them . Gotta get it right every time
While traveling to Sac, I Googled BBQ spots for Sac and this came up on the list. I was quite underwhelmed by the food. I got the Tri-tip Platter with Mac n Cheese and Roasted veggies. The best tasting part of the meal was the cornbread and the veggies. Mac n Cheese is very bland; Tri Tip was eghhhh…not bad but not good. I guess I’m spoiled by the terrific food in Chicago. Place is clean. Customer service is friendly.
We ordered the 2 meat combo with Salmon, Ribs, Mac n cheese, onion rings, and tri tip burger. The salmon was plain no flavor and overcooked, the ribs were dry, the mac n cheese lacked flavor. The onions rings were really good the best I've had so far, seasoned well and batter was light. The burger had a good char grilled flavor to it and not overcooked but not as juicy as I would have liked it. They do charge for extra ranch which I didn't like.

We ordered the family brisket meal,I asked the cashier who took my order not red I want it cooked she said it won't be too red. It came nearly raw. My kids could not eat it,i asked for them to cook it more they said they couldn't since the kids already started serving the food.
I love buckhorn but not this location. My wife and I ordered two meals for $52 and waited 20 minutes when the place was relatively empty. Upon getting our food it was overcooked (pulled pork crispy/burnt) and cold (sweet pt fries & tri tip). Our side of “roasted vegs” was a small portion of bell pepper, zucchini and sweet potatoes. It was heavy on the sweet pots which was disappointing and annoying because we wanted Vega and had already ordered a side of sweet pot fries. Sweet potatoes are not a veggie…. The Cole slaw was delicious though, and thankfully it’s supposed to be served cold so that worked. Staff were ok but the order took forever and I wonder how long it sat waiting to be brought to our table. I don’t plan to go to this location again.
I would’ve gave them 5 stars because everything was great - not busy for a nice Saturday , not a long wait, food came out pretty quick and was really good BUT about 30 minutes after eating, my boyfriend and I started having horrible stomach cramping and a major case of 💩 💩. Spent the rest of the evening running back and forth to the nearest toilet. We had 2 different meals, mine being a salad (Ive had it several times in the past from the downtown location, and their mobile truck with zero issues), and his being the pulled pork with mash and mac. He also had a side of onion rings while I had a side of sweet potato fries. We both had a cornbread muffin as well. Not sure what caused us to get sick from there (bad oil, something in the cornbread batter, food poisoning?) especially since we only ate half of our food (took the rest to-go and had to throw away once we got home), but it was bad enough to say we definitely won’t be back.
Nice and clean looking restaurant. I didn't have to wait long to order. The staff came by after we were eating to ask if all was ok. The food was just too salty. I've never heard of putting salt on Onion Rings...it really ruined the fried flavor. I also had the burnt tri tip which was just too salty. I really wanted to ask for a refund but didn't want to bother with the hassle. Oh not sure if they can fix this but the music selection wasn't good.

I'd give a "0" to Julia (the manager) if I could help another customer NOT suffer from the awful experience my grandaughter and I had while at this establishment. I ordered the 2 meat platter ($27.00) that is way over priced for quality and quanity for 1 person and a child, and frenchfries. When I and asked to "upgrade" my salad and pay the $1.50 for the upgrade ...the cashier Blanca that rang us up...as table service was not available said "I couldn't pay more for a "better" salad". I asked to speak to her supervisor and met a Manager Julia. From the moment Julia made eye contact with me she was rude. We are in a day where COVID-19 has taken the opportunity of many who want to work and employed...rude, poorly trained, "entitled" employees as Juila (unfortunately they are the best an employer can get..and its SAD). She told me she'd "let me pay more this 1 time to upgrade my salad, but couldn't allow it if I ever came back again". I assured her I'd never be back again. There were 4 other customers in the restaurant while my grandaughter and I were there...it was just after 2 pm...(as my receipt shows). I had a front row seat as the another customer who sat at the bar 6 feet away was also rudely treated by Julia. He sat at the bar for a menu to "dine in" and was not acknowledged for 10 min, and subsequently walked out of the restaurant. Did I note Julia who was taking her break and was eating/sitting at the bar and only 3 feet away from this guy she ignored? The sign out front reads est in 1933...I can't imagine this is how they wanted/treated their guest for lunch/dinner in 1933+ years. This picture sits on their bar...and here is my receipt. COVID-19 IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO HIRE BAD EMPLOYEES.
About a year ago I have given this place 5 star's. Now I'm going give it one star. About a week ago I had my girlfriend order food from here. There was two bag's that was given to us. One of the bags I opened a fly flew out of it. So then something told me to double check my food. Then I saw a fly in my hamburger. Now I always give people a chance to redeem themselves. Now a little background what I went through. So I had to see my lady spit out her food. And I went to her family home out in North Highlands. And on my day off. And had to go somewhere else to get food. So all this gas and time and inconvenience wasted. And feel that the manager shown no concern. To be fair she remade my food. A 10 dollar gift card. And credit back to my girlfriend app. But girlfriend doesn't want to come back. I really feel that wasn't enough what I went through. And the biggest thing. The manager didn't seem to be concern. And one of the employees didn't think it came from them. Trying to say there store is pretty sealed tight. And I seen two Flys in there store. And I got a picture of one of them. They try to laugh it off. But it wasn't funny.
Was there Sunday around 3:00 My husband got a burger was good. BUT my chicken platter was horrible I can kick myself for not returning it I couldn't get any meat off it was stuck to the bone had to rip it off I only got a few pieces of meat. I almost didn't get it when I was at the register ordering I seen the cook in the kitchen pull open a drawer and all the chicken was stacked in there kinda grossed me out. But anyway my fault for not complaining. Macaroni was good.
The restaurant is nice and clean. The food is below average. Not much bar b q flavor in tri tip or ribs. Tasted like all sauce and no smoke. Sides were also a disappointment. The fries were cold and the cornbread was soggy. Them calling this barbecue is fraud
A review goes a long way. My kids love this place, I love this place. I've never had a bad experience with the food, staff or atmosphere until today. I ordered 3 pulled pork tacos and garlic fries to go for my lunch break. As I'm eating I felt something with a weird texture that I couldn't break down with my teeth and nearly choked on it. I assumed it was a bone that accidentally made it's way into my meal but I was wrong. I pulled out a piece of plastic about 2 inches long. I already ingested half of my taco so who knows if there was more. As previously stated, this establishment is a family favorite, however when the cooks/staff are careless enough to not see anything inedible entering a plate of food, ready to be eaten, it has to make you wonder what else is happening in the kitchen. I'm completely disgusted because I can't for the life of me figure out what this plastic could be from. Maybe meat packaging? It's pretty thick and extremely unacceptable. Just a warning to make sure you take a look at what you're eating, I'm glad this was my plate of food and not my kids'.
One picture is what I thought i ordered, veggies with asparagus, corn, veggies, but what I actually got. And yes this is a $30 platter.

I've come to this location several times over the past 8 months and without fail, my tri tip is over cooked. I've even gotten my initial meal replaced with even more overcooked tri tip. I've been patient before, but I'm kinda over it. I'll be going to literally any other location besides this one from now on because it's only been a problem here. I don't spend $20+ on overcooked meat. What's the point in asking me how I like it cooked (medium rare) only to consistently deliver the opposite? Today, I came in for my takeaway order of tri tip bites. I asked for them medium rare, red meat. Got grey/slightest hint of pink instead.
First, let me state clearly: Romero, the bartender, is exceptional, and none of what follows reflects negatively on him or his service in any way. On November 24, I had a deeply troubling and offensive experience at the Buckhorn location on Freeport in Land Park. One of the managers, Kaitlyn, repeatedly shouted the word “jiggers” loudly across the restaurant, intentionally using a term that closely resembles a well-known racial slur. She even joked openly that it “sounded like another word,” making it clear that she knew exactly what she was implying and attempting to provoke. Another employee voiced discomfort and told her it wasn’t appropriate. Kaitlyn simply laughed it off and continued. When I spoke up and told her directly that it wasn’t acceptable and that she knew what she was doing, she walked over and responded with condescending, dismissive behavior — offering no apology, only repeating “absolutely” in a patronizing tone. I reported the incident to corporate. A manager named Jared reached out to me afterward, and his tone suggested he was more concerned about potential negative publicity than actually addressing the harmful incident itself. He stated he would follow up this week, yet I have heard nothing since — which makes it clear that Buckhorn’s leadership is not treating this matter seriously. The message I’ve been given is that Buckhorn management is comfortable allowing racially suggestive language and unprofessional conduct from their leadership staff. In today’s climate, it is both heartbreaking and unacceptable that such behavior is brushed aside rather than corrected. I have been a loyal customer and regular patron of this Buckhorn location for a long time. After this experience, I don’t feel comfortable returning — and I cannot in good conscience recommend others support an establishment that fails to adequately train or discipline its management. Until Buckhorn addresses this issue properly and publicly, consider this location on the Blackout List.
Our visit was unfortunately overshadowed by an incredibly uncomfortable situation involving a woman named Kaitlyn (it was unclear whether she was a waitress or manager, though she appeared to be in a leadership role). She loudly yelled at her coworkers in full view of the restaurant for something that clearly could have been handled politely and in private. It created a tense and awkward environment for guests. Whatever mistake was made, it could not have warranted the public behavior we witnessed. The lack of professionalism and consideration for both staff and customers was disappointing, and the secondhand embarrassment alone was enough to ruin the experience.
I’ve been a regular customer at Buckhorn BBQ + Grill for a long time and have always loved their menu, which is why it’s disappointing to write this review. On February 4th, I ordered a burger well done, but when I received it, it was not cooked well done at all. The fries were also cold. Because of this, I didn’t touch my burger or fries and asked for a refund. Unfortunately, they only refunded the burger and not the fries, even though the fries were cold and part of the same unsatisfactory meal. It’s really sad to see the food quality and service declining, especially as a loyal customer who genuinely enjoys their menu. I hope they take feedback seriously and work on improving both their food consistency and customer service.
Let me start by saying I have been a buckhorn patron for over a decade. I have ordered catering for my staff and have always been satisfied. This was my first time dealing with the landpark location as it's closest to my home. Unfortunately, the meal was not up to the expected standard. Specifically, the vegtables were undercooked, the cornbread was hard and dry, the ribs were undercooked and tough, the macaroni was cold and dry, the steak was tough on the outside and undercooked on the inside. The salmon was cold so we did not feel comfortable trying it. The salad and dressing were not chilled and had become wilted, and the entire family feast was cold when it arrived to my home. I placed an order for the family feast meal which arrived by doordash delivery through Buckhorns app. I have already reached out to doordash who is unable to assist me and referred me back to the landpark location, due to this order being placed on the Buckhorn app and not through doordash directly. I then contacted the landpark location. My call was answered by Hector who immediatley placed me on hold for 17 minutes. Once he came back and I explained the situation, he then put his manager Navaro on the line after another extended hold. Navarro was professional in our interaction. I requested a refund, He asked me to bring the food in to the landpark location so he could use it as a teaching moment for his team. I explained that I ordered delivery for my family because I'm home caring for my ill and elderly mother who I cannot leave and is not mobile. He placed me on another hold to speak with his GM and I assume he went to check with his team and verify the quality of the food. After a while he came back and said they would definitely consider a credit for the cornbread and vegtables. (I'm assuming he saw the extremely low quality for himself) However he said before he would consider a credit I would need to send him pictures of the food. By the time I was able to speak with Navaro after already having reached out to doordash and then being placed on a long hold before getting Navaro on the line, we had already bagged up and thrown out the food in the dumpster so there would be no pictures to send. We paid $135 for the food alone not including the delivery fee and tip, so we are upset to say the least. I spent a total of 40 mins on the phone attempting to resolve the issue with no success. I've reached out to corporate and I'm pending a response. I suggest going to the H st or University Ave locations. They have always been excellent and consistent in quality and service. Follow up: I received a follow up call from Navaro, the manger at the landpark location. He was professional and apologetic for the experience I had. He said he did speak with his team about the quality of food I received. He also said he went ahead and added a credit in the amount of 40 or 45 dollars (I cant remember exactly what amount he said) to my buckhorn app which should show up at the latest 24 hours from now and can be used anytime in the future. I appreciate that he was professional and followed through. I'm just not sure how I feel about this yet. I paid $143.65 total for food my family was looking forward to and ultimately was not able to eat. I spent a good amount of time trying to resolve the issue, I still had to take time away from what I had going on at home that made it inconvenient for me to cook dinner tonight in the first place and I ended up cooking anyway. With today's climate I guess I should be happy I even got 30% of what I paid as a credit to buy food from this establishment in the future.. When the frustration wears off I hope to be satisfied with the outcome ✌️
