Specht's is a popular spot known for its lively atmosphere, live music, and friendly service, especially Scarlett and Brooklyn. The ribeye and chicken fried steak are highly recommended. Some find the service slow when busy and some dishes inconsistent.

We just moved into the area and have a new favorite spot. Plus Wednesday nights- steak night with Trivia and live music all weekend is great!
It was a nice place to go and eat. The food was good. The atmosphere was nice. The staff was attentive and friendly. They also an have outdoor area to sit and enjoy some music. Will definitely be going back to try other menu options.
My new favorite restaurant in San Antonio. Specially the Wednesday special. Can't go wrong with a beer and steak.
A friend recently recommended Spechts to us, and my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting for lunch today. We sat on the back patio, and although the temperature hovered around 95°, the presence of several large fans made the experience comfortable. Our server, Kaitlyn, was prompt, attentive, and ensured our drinks were always full. We were also personally checked on by a gentleman named Aaron - whom we later discovered is the owner. It was nice to see an owner putting in the work alongside his staff and it was evident he takes a lot of pride in his establishment. The portions were generous, the food had a homemade quality, and the setting itself was charming. The property features a butterfly garden and a stage for live music, adding to its character and sense of place. Our only regret was not being able to give the resident patio cat, Patches, a scritch. In a world dominated by impersonal chain establishments it’s nice to find somewhere with real character, good food, and a welcoming vibe. We’ll definitely be back some evening to check out the live music.
This place is truly one of a kind, a place with a soul and character. The history behind this place is increíble- a hidden gem in SA for sure. Food is incredible, every dish I’ve tried is packed with flavor and the portions are so generous. Live music almost everyday I think.. super kid friendly and the staff is so attentive. A usual spot for a lot of people in the area and one for my family too. So far I’ve tried the Caesar salad with grilled chicken, the garden omelette, the chicken friend steak, the burger 🍔, cat fish, and salmon. Everything was hands down incredible.. so good! They change their deserts every so often and today they had a cinnamon roll the size of my head! It was so warm, not too sweet, and I was able to share it with my whole family.
Loveed it the food was really good The employees were super cool thank u. so on Saturday night I lost my keys in your parking lot and I am thankful that you guys were able to recover quickly for my missing keys thank you!
The hostess and the waiter were very nice the service was great. Atmosphere was also good the drinks were also very good overall a great experience.
We will definitely be back! Everything was great. My grilled chicken avocado sandwich was delicious and my husband's catfish plate looked so good, that's what I'll order next time. I think the fries are frozen, but they were still yummy, very crispy. We'll also be watching what live music they have to offer because the venue seems fun.
So glad we ventured out and found this place! So cute and the most delicious drinks and food. We tried the onion rings and chicken fried steak, delicious! Haley and Katie were wonderful bartenders/servers! Will be back!
Kid friendly covered outdoor seating. There was live music, and great food. Was a very Texas feeling place in the best way. Reasonable prices too.
We came here with our soccer team after a morning practice. Food was good, service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was awesome. It’s outdoors and it was hot but they do such a good job of helping with the heat with the covered patio and fans. We will definitely be coming back!
Found by accident. Glad i did. Food is good and resonably priced. Great atmosphere. Friday night music is nice as well. Any place with reserved horse and motorcycle parking aint bad.
Spechts Texas is a great spot for beer + cocktails and live music in San Antonio, Texas!! The atmosphere within Spechts is really lovely, as this place has so many historic qualities to it. Their outdoor patio is a large space that allows you to watch college football, have a drink, and enjoy being with friends & family. The staff are SO kind - everyone from the bartenders to the wait staff are really accommodating! I have yet to try their food, but I'm looking forward to it at future visits. I highly recommend this spot!!
Brisket grilled cheese sandwich was delicious and the chicken fried steak Our only complaint eating outside was the septic tank sprinklers came on and it smelled foul AF. If there was a way to stop it it would help for future times. We told our waitress but it seems she knew nothing about how to fix it.
Food is good worth the drive Chicken fried steak needed a bit more seasoning Chick avo club was on point with the garlic aioli. Could use an option for some mushrooms. Great country atmosphere. This hidden gem needs to be on your list of restaurants to visit when your near or far.
We had lunch there yesterday. Food and service was excellent. Great music. The owner even came by, we told him it was our first time. He gave us a $5 gift card to use there next time.
Spechts is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the incredible service. Our waiter, Pedro, was simply the best – attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. In fact, all the servers were fantastic, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The manager, Eric, even came over to personally welcome us when he heard it was our first time, which was a lovely touch. And the food? Outstanding! We highly recommend the nachos – they were absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The atmosphere was lively and fun, with great music that added to the overall experience. It's such a shame we only get to visit Texas every couple of years. If we lived closer, Spechts would undoubtedly be our regular spot. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience!
Incredible hidden gem in the Hill Country. Close to San Antonio, Bulverde, Boerne, and Spring Branch. Cannot believe we've lived in the area for almost a decade, and haven't been. Amazing food, all made fresh, in house. From scratch dressings! Best fried pickles I have had. Home made batter, delicious pickles, and home made ranch. The patty melt was delicious. Made from a blend of ground chuck, brisket, and short rib. Onions glazed in Shiner Bock, and a load of swiss cheese. The regular burgers are served on brioche buns. Even the fries were notable. Home style fresh cut, but crispy outside, and fluffy in the middle. The BLAT was great as well. Bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato. Generous portion of thick cut, high end bacon. Worth a stop if you're anywhere near the area. Fantastic outdoor area with covered dining for live music, patio games, plenty of fans, nice lighting, and plenty of space for kids.
We decided to have my 56th birthday party here Talking to and I am so happy we did. The atmosphere and the food was phenomenal and the service that Haley provided to our group of 25 was spectacular. I highly recommend this place for the food, entertainment! The kids will have a blast and great family environment.
We tried this place recently. Food was delicious. Service was fantastic and the kiddos enjoyed all of the outdoor activities will definitely return and highly recommend.
Sunday Brunch was simply mouthwatering! SWBene—-delicious! Service from Haley and Jojo and Sasha impeccable, they are incredible!! Always smiling and laughter from everybody here! What a gem of a place, hidden away among the bustle of the city! Just a fantastic place to enjoy a delicious meal with family, friends and make new ones! If I could give more stars I would!!
I love this little place. It's just down the road very honky, tonk, highly redneck.Great people and great food. Live music and pets.Welcome out in the back pasture. Chicken fried steak was pretty good.
Fun laid back place. My family is visiting from out of town. This place is definitely family friendly, although we left our kids at my sisters house (who we are visiting). Apparently Thursdays are kids day, so there is a deal if they went, but either way the ribeye I had was solid, my wife enjoyed her salad, and the staff was very nice and welcoming. We were able to hang out and enjoy dinner and drinks. My son LOVES Mac and cheese, so we got (2) servings of that to go, one for my son, and one for my daughter and they devoured it. I’m not sure what what my family has planned, but we’re here a few more days and I’d be surprised if we don’t end up back here.
I had the bacon cheddar burger, which was pretty good. The bun was a bit chewy and the burger was slightly dry, but other than that it was an excellent burger. The onion rings were perfect. I finished off with the peach cobbler which was perfect. The guy next to me ordered the chicken fried steak which looked phenomenal, I will be back to try that. The bar itself is ancient but very cool. I will definitely be back.
Finally a great place around the Pieper Community! It's been around for a long time but most people don't know it's in our backyard! Way better than "the branch" for drinks and food by far!!!! Not even close and have awesome live bands on weekends!
We were immediately greeted upon walking in and showed to a table outside. The servers were over the top friendly!!! We had mimosas and breakfast. Everything was great, though the dough for the biscuits was a little on the sweet side for my taste. If I’m ever back in the area, I will definitely be back.
Wonderful Live music, outdoor seating, rustic Texas feel and great food, wonderful staff and service! What more can you ask for? I shared videos below of their music to check out. This hidden gem is conveniently located in the country just north of San Antonio. It would also be a wonderful place to have a small birthday party as several customers do there. We had a great time! Highly recommend.
This was our second visit. We really enjoyed ourselves!! The food is really good and so are the drinks. We ordered a burger and a pulled pork sandwich, and the kids had the kids meal cheeseburger. The music was a little loud for our dog, but we managed. We live out of town so we couldn't leave her home. The only thing my husband mentioned was that the pulled pork sandwich would have been better with a sweet BBQ sauce. The onion rings were so good!! We will definitely be back!
This place is like family! They know exactly what my drink is and it's fantastic for kids. Live bands, play area and if you're looking for a small, quaint, kind of home town feel, Spechts is the best. Great southern menu, but still waiting for them to add meatloaf 😆 🤣 😂
This place is a hidden gem! Great historic spot! Absolutely the best customer service! Ice cold beer! Good served hot food I had the chicken fried steaks and pulled pork nachos, great LIVE MUSIC on a Large outdoor stage. Plenty of seating outdoors and indoors DOG FRIENDLY Y'ALL! (And children friendly) ask for a tour it's awesome. There's a lot of history here cotton gin from 1830
Out in the country just around the corner from a main road and minutes from the city, this hidden gem is a must-visit and an ideal respite from the hustle of the city. I love everything about this place! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is delicious! The live music was amazing! Austin Burns (Generation Gap) played an incredible mix of old country, Texas country, pop, blues, and rock. I had the chicken fried steak with asparagus and green beans. The asparagus was grilled perfectly! No need to add salt or anything else. The green beans were great with bacon. The chicken fried steak was absolutely delicious!!! My friend had the guacamole burger and loved it too! Zero complaints and 100% praise! We plan to visit on a regular basis.
Interesting little place off the beaten path in San Antonio, TX. Went with my son while visiting and we had the Mac, peach salad, Cobb salad, and avocado chicken sandwich. All were excellent and our server was fantastic!!
We went to see the Ruben V band which was fantastic. The food, the service, and atmosphere were great. The only disappointing part of the evening were the mixed drinks. I was not impressed but that's not really why you go there which is why they get 5 stars.
Joe wasn’t necessarily our waiter but was still very attentive to our needs! She has a smile that lights the room! Although we weren’t assigned to her she talked to us and promoted restaurants menu items more than our own waiter. She is magnificent and deserves recognition!
Stopped in for food after a polo match. Brooklyn was our server, and she had an amazing personality and got our order out perfectly! Had a blast here. The food and service were 10/10. Will def be back!
This place was a big hit with me and my family. Everything we ate was delicious! The owner even came and personally introduced himself and gave us a $5 off coupon for next time we come.
First time visiting. Had a great experience. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Owner even came out and greeted us. Onion rings, mashed potatoes, green beans, and prickly pear margarita were yummy. Chicken fried steak was good could have used a little more seasoning. They had live music and plenty of space for kids to play. Great experience. Will be visiting again!!
We love Specht's! I moved here 7 months ago from Portland, Oregon, and this is the best place to get true Texas food. Only wish they had fried okra on the menu.
My husband found this place so we decided to try it. Everything was excellent! I had the chicken fried chicken and it was so tender! The mashed potatoes and salad were also delicious! For appetizers we ordered the fried pickles and jalapeño boats also delicious. My husband ordered the mushroom burgers he said it had very good flavor including the bun. We will be back soon!
The house made Chili was outstanding y'all! Too bad they don't serve it like Frito pie too! Thanks for letting us hangout 🤠😺
Have to mention this places staff!! Haley, Jojo, Tianna, and especially Katie (;) The food is served quickly, and prepared exquisitely to order. The burgers, the Ribeye, the desserts! I mean everything was so delicious! The live music, the atmosphere, everything about this place is worth the trip!! Best meal for miles!!
Awesome spicy bulverde Mary. Food was a 10 and we had a great waitress. Fast service with food piping hot. I recommend the chicken fried steak. Found this gem just driving the back roads and is now my favorite place to eat. Definitely going to be bringing the whole family next time. Even has playground out back for kiddo's.
First time there. Yummy!! Nothing we tried was bad. We started with onion rings and shared chicken fried steak which was soooo good!! It was WELL worth the drive. Brooklyn was so amazing as our server!! Met owner Aaron who was so welcoming!! We will definitely be back!! I highly recommend! While there I was texting friends telling them they need to come here. Thanks again for a wonderful experience and we will be back!!
10/10 experience will be coming back again, really good Texas spot. My servers name was Scarlett, she was the best server I’ve ever had out of my 45 years of living. She has great communication skills and her aura is pure kindness and love she’s beautiful inside and out. She absolutely made my night, make sure to ask for her! The other staff were also were friendly and I can watch them get along, great environment. The food was also finger lickin, got the chicken fried chicken and brisket fries.
Specht’s Bar & Grill Myself and two buddies went out for their Wednesday Ribeye Steak Night, and it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely fantastic — the ribeye was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, and the asparagus and mashed potatoes were spot on. I finished with the blackberry cobbler, and my friend had the chocolate cake. Both desserts were incredible. Our server, Mariah, did an outstanding job. She was friendly, attentive, and really knowledgeable about the menu. Great service all around. The atmosphere was awesome too. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the perfect San Antonio weather this time of year. I’ll definitely be going back. If you’re anywhere near the area, you have to try their Wednesday night steak dinner — highly recommended!
I should’ve taken more pictures, but forgot about leaving a review because I was so excited to eat my burger. It was delicious, our server was very kind and attentive, the atmosphere was very pleasant and clean with plenty of TVs. My other family members really enjoyed the chili, catfish, chicken fried steak and potatoes. Highly recommend the drive to eat some delicious food and support a local business.
What a fun place! Get the jalapeno popper things with queso! Thank me later. Chicken friend steak was solid. The chicken and waffles is so freaking good. Wasn't a fan of the Dr. Pepper sheet cake. Paloma, Ranch Water and an Old Fashioned all really good. We hung out for live music (Galina and the Diamondbacks). Pedro was super attentive. Would love to go back next time we are in town.
First time being here! Wanted to get a burger and was recommended the chicken fried chicken. Great choice! Sizes were great and the food tasted fresh and delicious! I highly recommend coming here if you want some great food with some fantastic service. Live music at night too! I’ll be back for sure.
My recent visit at spechts was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The atmosphere was incredibly inviting and the service was attentive and friendly. I started with the amazing Chicken and Waffles, and they were excellent. The chicken was crispy and juicy, and the Texas-shaped waffle was a delicious surprise. But the real standout was the bacon—it had such a rich, smoky flavor. Paired with the incredible bacon butter, it elevated the entire dish to another level. My family raved about their meals as well. The bacon cheddar burger, loaded with gooey melted cheese and crispy bacon, looked absolutely incredible. The spechts burger, topped with what looked like creamy coleslaw and spicy jalapeños, was a hit. The fries served with both burgers were perfectly golden and a great addition. This is a place that truly knows how to do comfort food right, and I can't wait to go back. If you're looking for great food, a wonderful atmosphere, and top-notch service, this is the place to be!
Our first time here and let me tell ya—this place is incredible! Hands down the BEST food and hospitality we’ve ever experienced. I’m still thinking about that ribeye steak… by far the best I’ve had in my life. The chicken fried steak was also next-level. I even had to find the cook and tell them how amazing everything was—that’s how good it was. And the setting? Perfect for families. My daughter got to run around, pet the cows and chickens—she was in absolute heaven. We’ll definitely be back. Highly, highly recommend!
Very nice hidden gem. Food was fantastic them jalapeno with the dip were the bomb. Burger is delicious, not greasy at all, and the chicken avocado is very good too. Recomend this place to give it a try you won't be disappointed. The staff is very nice and attentive just had a great meal. Highly recommend if you never been. It is hidden
This is a cool place. My food wasn't fresh, so it was a lukewarm. My husband had the chicken fried chicken, and his was fresh, and he loved it. I would definitely come back and try something else. The band was great.
While visiting family they said we should try Spec's store for dinner. I thought store and dinner that's interesting. It's a quaint little restaurant with an outside area that is very nice. Very friendly staff light outside music. Food (burgers) were good. Nice selection of food and beers.
After a long morning outside under the 105 degree temperature , we needed a drink and something to eat. We found Spechts and weren’t sure what to expect. Well, the food was actually very good and they had a nice selection of drinks to cool us down. The Burger, chicken avocado sandwich, onion rings, and salads were tasty. Ask about The story behind this location that dates back over 100 years !
Overall this was a neat little place off the beaten path with good food and a casual kid and dog friendly restaurant. We would recommend it and I’m sure we will be back again. Food: We tried the chicken fried steak, brisket grilled cheese and JR chicken strips with fries. Favs: the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with that homemade gravy 😋, the homemade ranch dressing was unique and so good, and the fries too!!! Drinks: the water here tastes dirty. the bloody mary was top notch but not the Texas Lemonade. Service: The service was a little disappointing. The waitress didn’t know the happy hour specials, we asked. Later after we ordered drinks we found the specials in the menu and showed her. She didn’t bring the appetizer that we ordered, she never even realized she forgot about it. She was not rude though, so it wasn’t totally horrible. Atmosphere: Small indoor section and larger outdoor section. Family friendly and dog friendly too. There’s space for the kids to run around in the yard and there were jumbo jenga blocks to play with. There were large fans and portacoolers running so we were very comfortable (temperature wise) sitting outdoors on a warm day.
This was our first visit and when we entered the restaurant the bar tender immediately greeted us and offered us to sit inside or outside. We sat outside and there was a trivia game going on (that was cool) and there staff was busy. They were also playing some real good music. There was a bit of a wait before we received any attrition from staff but when we did EVERYONE was very nice. Tiana was our waitress. We ordered the 16ounce ribeye dinner with loaded mashed potatoes and asparagus and we shared the food. The food was pretty good. We met the owner Aaron and he gave us the history of the place (that was very nice)he gave us a coupon to use the next time we come back. We will definitely be back to try the catfish.
Found this place while making a delivery. Friendly and neat. The atmosphere was awesome. Country barn style, welcoming environment. Food was delicious. Staff was friendly amd attentive. Lots of space and live music. Great place to forget about the stress of the world. Plenty of parking.
Really nice and cozy atmosphere. Service was good and fast. The salmon was excellent. The Marguerite was good. But the burger was a disappointing. The meat was overcooked and dry or maybe it was precook and left on the grill. The burger was supposed to be spicy but it lack spicy heat. The fries were very good.
The food was great, but the service left a lot to be desired. We had to get up and ask for lemons after already requesting them, and our food was brought out without any utensils. There didn’t seem to be a designated server for our table and no one checked on us throughout the meal. We didn’t even receive any refills.
Didn’t get to try the food here because I was refused service after showing up just before 3pm on a Sunday. The kitchen had closed early although the hours advertised were clearly until 4pm. They said it was due to being slow however the parking lot was full and I walked in back and the outside seating area had several people. Cute place but don’t recommend making a special trip as I had during a day of hiking. Looks like the staff puts itself first in trying to get out of there earlier instead of its customers. Update: stars added after business response. I will come back and provide an updated review when visiting and trying out the food.
This place ALMOST nails being a hidden gem. It severely fall short due to their food. We originally tried this place because they put out an awesome Instagram video, and it clearly worked because everyone else who was there also mentioned the video. For good reason, too. This place feels like you're outside the city and nails a small town restaurant vibe. The issue is the food. First, we got the brisket grilled cheese. This was by far the worst of the two things ordered. You can tell from the picture that it's not grilled. It also had some of the worst brisket I've ever tasted. I dont know what they're doing with it, but wow, it was mushy and very fatty. Lastly, the cheese might as well have been craft singles. Next was their "award winning" chicken fried steak. Now, I'm not going to say it was bad, but for $19, I thought the portions were disappointing. It did nothing to set itself apart from any other I've eaten. Everyone was super nice, but at the end of the day, I think this place really might be better at being a pit stop to grab a few drinks and then head elsewhere for food. I'd still like to come back and give the food a second chance, so take that as a positive I guess.
My burger was great, the sauce, the cheese mushrooms, awesome and fries were piping hot! But I tried the kids meal Mac and chicken. No flavor at all and tasted my daughters salmon, that was under cooked and no seasoning at all. It was so plain. Not even salt and pepper. I'd go back for that Spicy burger though. Fried pickles and chips and green salsa. Kids area outside was cool. Chickens too!!!
I went for the chicken fried steak. I had read a review that it was very good. I was very disappointed with my order. The steak was luke warm when the waitress brought our order and it was very difficult to cut and chew. The meat had an odd taste to it as well. I asked for fries instead of mashed potatoes and they were also luke warm at best. My order also came with green beans, which were quite good. The service was top notch - very attentive - and the atmosphere of the restaurant was eclectic and fun, with live music the day we went. We chose a table inside for less noise.
The ambiance was quite pleasant, although it was a bit noisy and the seating felt a little crowded, with a high density of picnic tables. While the food was delicious, our server, Pablo, appeared to be quite busy. He didn't check in with us, so we were unable to request additional gravy for the Chicken Fried steak. Furthermore, the appetizer arrived simultaneously with the main course, and we received fries instead of the requested onion rings. The plates were not cleared promptly, and the check took a while to arrive. Overall, the food was enjoyable, the service was adequate, and the atmosphere was pleasant but somewhat cramped and loud.
** EDIT: 05/17/2024 I changed my rating from 5 down to 2 stars. Our second visit here and it wasn’t great. My wife wanted to celebrate her new job and sales profits, by eating a steak at another place but I talked her into coming here instead. First they told us they were out of steak in which we would have left. But they came back and informed us they did have steak. So we ordered their steak and when they brought it to our table they forgot forks and knives. No big deal. The food runner said she’d go get us some. I then watch the food runner enter and exit the kitchen four times and serve other people. I had to finally get up and ask her again for a fork and knife while our steaks went cold. It’s unacceptable to sell steaks and forget, not once but twice, the cutlery. Needless to say, when we want a steak, we are not coming back here or even considering this place. They offered to comp the food which I refused. I don’t want free food, I just want a damn fork and knife with our steak. Not asking for a lot here. Service was not good tonight. Manager finally came by and I told her, and she even laughed about it. I didn’t think it was funny and they’re lucky I didn’t pay the bill tonight because they’d get no tip from me. Another thing that bothered me was I forgot to ask for a 2nd beer. Never really saw our waitress again, so I went inside the bar to get my 2nd beer. Big mistake. 2 bartenders were so busy serving every single person except me. In fact I finally got my draft beer pour after waiting 10-15 minutes while they made every single margarita and mix drink for outside table orders. Then when I finally get to pay, someone calls up on the phone and wants to order so they can’t even give me any change until they get off the phone and put it on online order. I’m just sitting and waiting for what seems forever, just for a damn beer. Unacceptable really. I now know that if I need a steak or draft beer, this is not the place for me. Also my chicken fried steak looked great but had no flavor. They could put some salt or seasoning on this piece of leather. I don’t think we will come back for a while. Also the music tonight was way too loud. A full PA system is not necessary for the 10-15 picnic tables directly in front of the stage. The music was really great but way too loud to enjoy our food or experience here. ORIGINAL REVIEW: We were driving in the neighborhood and wife said “I want chicken fried steak!” So I found this on Google maps and we were pleasantly surprised. The chicken fried steaks were delicious and huge. The sides were excellent and the service was friendly and very prompt. I did not like the flies or the hair in our beer but overlooked that. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating and food was fast, hot and delicious. We will definitely come back with friends and family. Pros: Top notch chicken fried steak Draft beer Plenty of parking Plenty of seating Friendly service Kid friendly Cons: Flies Noisy patrons and customers (children running loose like wild animals) Hair in our beer
We ordered 4 plates total and two alcoholic drinks. Sadly, we didnt enjoy anything. The catfish is very fishy (and no, it doesn't have to be fishy), the chicken is tough and unseasoned. Our order was taken incorrectly by the server, but otherwise she was friendly. But if you're going for the vibes, it's a definite yes. The atmosphere, look, music- all amazing.
I will never be back. Completely unacceptable, we waited forever and no one even acknowledged us. The young employees upfront were playing around and didn’t even offer us drinks. I understand sometimes restaurants are understaffed or super busy and you have to wait, but this was not the case.if I could give it zero stars I would.
I read a review that he never got his utensils! You get a steak, and they only give you a knife! Menu says steak comes with asparagus and mashed potatoes, but they served fries! They don't ask you if you'd like to substitute that z they just take it upon themselves to serve you fries! They didn't want to make this right, they just say "that's all we have" You'd think they would tell you up front that they're out of mashed potatoes, but they don't. The lady beside me had the same situation, and she was upset as well. She couldn't understand why they didn't tell her in advance or why they took it upping themselves to serve her what WE BOTH DIDN'T WANT! WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!
I've been here before and enjoyed the food I ordered. Today I ordered a hamburger and I was extremely disappointed. The meat was disgusting. It was so fatty that it was spongy when I tried to eat it. This is the worst burger I've ever had.
We saw this place on Instagram and my husband and I were looking forward to eating there. We were visiting the San Antonio area and after checking the hours of operation (closes at 10 PM) , decided to make the 40 minute drive to Spechts. We arrived at 8:15 and were told by the hostess that we had made it just in time because they stop seating at 8:30. Our waitress took our drink order and when she returned 5 minutes later with our Jack & Pepsi (no coke), she told us she couldn’t take our food order because the kitchen didn’t take orders past 8:30. We asked why neither she nor the hostess informed us and she said the kitchen was backed up and was not accepting anymore food orders. Initially, though disappointed, we understood and figured we’d stay for a few drinks and enjoy the music. But while finishing our drinks, we overheard the waitress taking a food order for the table next to us. When I asked our waitress about it, she pretty much told me I misunderstood. Then an older woman sitting behind us also ordered food. In addition to this, people were still being sat and given menus. At this point we just decided to pay our drinks and leave. My husband wondered if it was a race thing but I really can’t say for sure. I am absolutely sure this was a pretty terrible experience.
We ordered the chips and queso with brisket. We expect the queso would have had brisket chipped up and mixed with the queso. That was not the case. There was a glob of brisket in a bowl of melted cheese. The chicken fried steak was tough and was bland tasting. The breading was definitely not what I expected for an award winning chicken fried steak. My wife took one bite of her grilled chicken sandwich and was done. Service was great and the atmosphere was great as well. Maybe the cook had a bad night.
