We love Martin! The DJ gets loud for birthday moments but then gets quiet again. Food is fantastic. No complaints and I can always find a problem. Cute photo oops around also.
Walked right in on a Sunday night without any wait. Kelsey was very attentive and made great menu suggestions. We loved all of our food, especially the toro truffle roll and the crab fried rice.
Had an unbelievable experience here for dinner for my birthday. Our server Martin really made the night special making sure that we had enough time to order and that everything was organized and set up the way we needed to overall the experience was amazing and I would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you Martin!!!
Great food and service! Martin took care of our group and did a great job! Food was delicious and great atmosphere! Would highly recommend the crab fried rice and the pot stickers!
I choose well for San Diego restaurant week using Know My Menu. Great tool! The food was surprising with each bite and I loved the ambiance. As a bonus we had a dynamic and engaging server. Cru kept my table mate on his toes
AKA Gaslamp was an amazing experience from start to finish. The interior decor is stunning - very stylish, romantic, and thoughtfully designed, with tons of great photo ops throughout the space. It’s the perfect setting for a date night or an upscale girls’ night out! The food was just as impressive. The bao buns, sushi, and noodles were all standout dishes - fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered was a hit. The service really took the experience to the next level, especially Alyssa, who was incredible. She was warm, attentive, and made us feel so well taken care of. Her recommendations were spot-on and her energy made the night even better. Overall, amazing food, gorgeous atmosphere, and top-tier service. Definitely a must-visit in the Gaslamp and a spot I’ll absolutely be returning to 😍
We came from Virginia for an event we came across AKA and glad we did . The food was amazing the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming .the service from cru was great and couldn’t expect anything better honestly . It was a pleasure dining here we will definitely return
Atmosphere had a very cool vibe and well designed. Went late on a weekday and it wasn't too busy but I'm sure the place is popular on the weekends. Food was amazing in both taste and presentation. They may have a live DJ here on busy nights as there was a DJ station in the center of the restaurant.
We booked this restaurant to try out their restaurant week menu and so glad I made this choice because it is very delicious with beautiful fun atmosphere. The interior design reminds me of Tao in NYC, with a big Buddha sitting in the middle of the restaurant. The restaurant week menu is 54 for dinner for 3 courses meal. We had scallion yellowtail and lamb lollipops for appetizers, two filet mignon for entrees, Japanese cheesecake and Creme brûlée for desserts. Everything is very delicious! Especially the filet mignon, probably the best I’ve ever had in San Diego! Super tender and perfectly medium rare. The lamb lollipops are perfectly cooked with very flavorful seasoning and sides to taste along. The yellowtail is sashimi with nice seasoning, good to start a meal. The desserts also pass my expectations, the cheesecake is little thicker than regular Japanese style cheesecake, which is awesome, because I don’t typically like the spongy style cheesecake. The Ube flavor is strong, so yummy. The Creme Brûlée is different than the French version which is more like an egg custard, I like it, very eggy and creamy. Plus, the service is very nice, the waiter lets my husband had a taste of the wine before he orders it. After he makes sure he liked it, he had 3 glasses, very good wine. He also offered an extra lamb lollipop for my baby, plus a bowl of rice. My baby had a great time as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing, great for date, birthday, anniversary and parties. I’ll definitely recommend this place.
Great meal and service. Our server Cru was awesome and very personable. He recommended the Omakase for our group and we devoured it!
Martina was our server on a Sunday night. The place was pretty much empty. He did an amazing job! Very attentive he knew a lot about the menu and he gave great Options.

Love the food & the ambiance! The service was amazing. Shoutout to Cru for the great service. He made sure everything was up top par and his jokes were top tier! Plus he’s pretty cute
Cru was amazing! Fantastic suggestions for menu options. Took pictures for us and brought everything extra we asked for (wasabi)!
Not having heard of this restaurant before, I wasn’t sure what to expect from an Asian fusion spot. To my surprise, it turned out to be an excellent experience. We started with the spicy garlic edamame and the bluefin tuna poke—both were fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. For the main course, I ordered the filet cooked medium rare. The steak was tender with great flavor, and the sauce paired perfectly with the mashed potatoes. The cocktails were also on point, and the service throughout the night was excellent. The overall atmosphere was lively, with music and a DJ creating more of a fun, upbeat vibe. If you’re looking for a quiet, romantic dinner on a Saturday night, this might not be the place—but if you’re after good food, drinks, and energy, it definitely delivers. With such a wide variety of menu options, I’m already looking forward to going back and trying more.
Great atmosphere and decor!! Has dj booth inside so beware of loud music at night. Had a fun celebration for my birthday with sparklers and everything it was exciting. The yellowfin under cold apps was interesting. Orange chicken was great
Troy is awesome & so is the whole team that interacted with us. Also we learned what the Japanese arch is called, but I forget. The random loud music was awesome and the food was delicious and presented well: crab fried rice, shrimp pad thai, tom kha, and the green salad
I had such an amazing experience at Aka! We went to celebrate my birthday, and the entire night was made extra special thanks to our server, Martin. He was incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel so welcomed. The staff surprised me with a cake and played music for my birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. The food was absolutely delicious, everything we ordered was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. Between the amazing service, the warm atmosphere, and the incredible food, Aka is definitely a place I’ll be coming back to. Highly recommend, and ask for Martin if you can!
AKA is a great place to be at for both drinks and food. Tommy at AKA is absolutely amazing! She’s not only a great bartender but also attentive. Making sure everything comes out exactly right. She’s extremely friendly, welcoming, helpful and always attentive so you can be comfortable. Even during busy hours, she stays calm, professional, efficient. she gives an amazing service, treats everyone with respect and truly cares about customers having a positive and great experience. Tommy is a huge reason why AKA has such a great atmosphere. Highly recommend! :)
I’ve been to AKA several times since moving to San Diego, and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots. The vibe is immaculate the music is always on point, the DJ keeps the energy high, and the food is phenomenal with options for literally everyone. But what truly makes AKA stand out is the service, especially Tommy, the blonde bartender. She is absolutely exceptional. Warm, charismatic, and insanely talented behind the bar, she elevates the entire experience. Her lychee martini is unreal easily one of the best cocktails I’ve had in San Diego. Perfectly crafted, refreshing, and unforgettable. Sitting at her bar alone is reason enough to come back. She turns a good night into a great one.
Good experience here. Walked in with a medium sized group to eat and watch the boxing match. They were able to accommodate us and we enjoyed the food, all delicious and we ordered plenty of different items. Cocktails were also tasty. Beware that if you’re looking for a quiet spot, this is the opposite. DJ and dancing ongoing all night.
It was a cute enough slightly gimmicky place but the waitstaff were really enthusiastic about their jobs. Food quality was higher than others in this Gaslamp district though and we had a nice time
Nice club with great people and good Asian fusion food. It’s also a good place to dance. They charge a €20 entry fee even if you’re having dinner. I ended up paying over $100 just for two dishes and two glasses of wine. Good place but expencive
Beautiful place, great location and wonderful service but I would tweak a few things just to make the patrons feel like they are getting the most of the experience. A small example would be, adding one more Rangoon to an order - it wouldn’t bankrupt this restaurant financially but at the very least we could share between two people. Spending $10 on an order of 3 crab rangoons feels like highway robbery if I’m being honest.

Good slices. Excellent soy sauce regardless if it's low sodium or gluten free (soy sauce was a 5). Rice can be better. All hamachi had brown spots.
We started with the filet mignon dumplings and sesame chicken karaage. The dumplings were kind of just average but the chicken was really good. Then we got the flat iron steak and spicy tuna and tempura rolls. The sushi was good but pretty average. The steak was ok but underseasoned. The brussel sprouts and potatos with the steak were great though. Also the $10 side of rice was undercooked. Overall pretty hit or miss.
Went for Valentine’s Day made reservations, was put in a corner table, that’s not a big deal except they placed us underneath an automatic room deodorizer spray machine that went off every 10 minutes and it was so strong you could taste it. We did not bother asking to be moved because it took a very long time to get drinks and food, we had a show to catch and I didn’t want to delay our service further. I know our waitress was doing her best and she was very nice! I loved the drink I got and I was so thankful she had the bar make it for us even though it was apparently just discontinued. Food wise-the mango yellowtail sushi and pork buns were great! I was not impressed by the Agedashi tofu, it was not silken tofu and there was a beet sauce and pistachio brittle that I don’t think went well with it.
What a BUMMER! We made our reservation over 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived we were told there was only bar seating available with a small table and stools, dining room was not available (even though we had a reservation). We ordered drinks and were told they were out of the wine so I picked something else …which was fine…but they brought me something completely different which was not good. We ordered the yellow tail and scallop appetizer. The yellowtail was 5 very small pieces ($23) but flavor was pretty good. The scallop appetizer ($22) was essentially a single scallop sliced thin with a few scallions sprinkled on top. No taste. Server mentioned that this was not usually how it was served but the kitchen was really busy with some larger parties. Bummer when you pay $ 26 for an app! We ordered the lamb chops - 3 small ones ($24) which were plain and did not have the sauce as stated on menu. Dan Dan noodles ($28) were ok. Second round of drinks …they brought the wrong wine (again) and brought my husband’s gin and tonic ($17) in a plastic cup …not sure why…we were sitting inside . There was a significant wait time for all drinks and food. Overall the experience was very disappointing. I am not a negative person and have a hard time leaving negative reviews for any restaurant / bar/ hotel or company (see my Google review history) but we are also so disappointed with the food, drinks, and service of this expensive restaurant that we wanted to share our experience with others who are choosing where to celebrate their special occasion, or date night. I highly recommend considering alternative options as we have had much better food and experiences in many other restaurants in SD.

The service and atmosphere is great. The servers were so kind and welcoming. The ambience was great. The food however not so much. It was cold and very average. Ordered quite a few items and it tasted below average Pork Bao buns 4/10 ( Pork was cold and chewy and tasted very plain ) Edmame 6/10 (Can't go wrong with it but was cold) Chicken Karage 6/10 (Decent fried chicken but not so great) Got the daily roll which had tuna on top. Tasted very average and the soy sauce was very salty. Definitely a great place to hit the bar and have fun would definitely not suggest for dinner.
