Hands down one of the best Korean restaurants in SF! The soft tofu stew is one of the best I've ever had. And the side dishes are also super delicious.
Korean venue serving custom bibimbap, barbecue, noodles & stew in simply outfitted quarters.
I just moved to SF and found this place two sundays ago and decided this would be part of my sunday routine moving forWard. Biz is run by a lovely korean couple. Food is delish — starts with side dishes (kale is to die for, followed by the broccoli and the kimchi). Have had the soft tofu stew on both occasions — i’m a soup person so this truly hits the spot. And as a drink, i’ve been going with Terra.
Gluten free Korean food! They label dishes on the menu, making things much easier. If you ask who's waiting they'll also point out what has and hasn't gluten in the banchan!
Really liked the purple rice + eggs + veggies based sizzler bowl. It was tasty, fresh and light. If you want a light dinner and want it hot and fresh their purple rice bowls are a good bet
Very good spot for Korean food. We came here with a large group and tried many of their entrees (kimchi beef soup, chicken soup, various rice bowls) and everything was delicious. This is certainly somewhere I would return to.
Purple Rice has converted me into a fan of Korean food! Everything I ordered was freshly made and piping hot. This place is very vegetarian friendly - I enjoyed the mung bean pancakes, vegetable mandu, miso stew, and a Sizzling Works bowl 🌱 Their namesake purple rice is worth getting in whatever dish you order. Wish I lived in SF cause this would definitely be a regular spot.
I think I could eat Purple Rice's Veggie Soft Tofu stew every day for the rest of my life. I've tried a number of Korean food places in the city and this has by far been the best and most consistently delicious. They're so accommodating with vegetarian/vegan modifications, service is always super quick and kind, and even the takeout is super high quality/great quantity. Their rice cakes jap chae are also delicious! Hope Purple Rice is around forever.
This is some of the best Kimchi jjigae / kimchi stew I've ever had, and I lived in Korea for a year! The pancake was also excellent. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. It wasn't too busy on a Thursday night, so easy to grab a table. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!
The tofu stew here is my comfort meal!! Hits every time!! Love coming here
So simple, so delicious! Great healthy ingredients, authentic yet contemporary & light Korean flavors; tasted like a home cooked meal. The place is super clean and efficiently run. Ordered stone pot BBB with 2x fried eggs and kimchi pancakes - loved that they used light soy sauce for dipping.
Really excellent food. Get the sizzling purple rice bowl! The spicy mandoo are more gyoza sized than the thick skinned dumplings I had thought they might be but they were amazing. Order extra since portions are smaller than expected but overall this place is amazing. Would love to come back.
Amazing Korean food! My boyfriend and I got the bibimbap with spicy pork and kimchi stew – both were delicious. Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. New favorite restaurant in the Lower Haight.
My favorite Korean restaurant in SF. Their stews are always delicious and has the perfect amount of spice and veggies…and the purple rice is cooked to perfection. Side dishes are unlimited when you dine in.
We had been looking for a Sushi Restaurant and we came across this newly opened Restaurant. It was more than my husband and I could have hoped for. The food was so fresh and beautifully presented. We live in the Hamptons, NY and I could only hope for this restaurant to open out there some day. The bowls were so big, I had to take my leftover home for lunch the next day. The service from the owners was exemplary. The prices were terrifically low.. Thank you to the owners for such a great experience.
After a 10 hour flight (plus another 3-4 hours getting through customs and Barting back to the city) I was absolutely famished, Purple Rice was just what I needed: fast, fresh, and delicious!! Bonus points for friendly service, great beer, and awesome music. I’ll definitely be back, highly recommended!!
I live walking distance and this is my go-to. I have tried ordering from a few other places but none of them satisfies as well. Their food works well for take home/delivery. Here is what I like: (1) the bibimbap. When they do it to go, they separate the cold stuff from the rice and protein, so you can mix it when you are ready to actually eat. Super tasty (2) kinchi and seafood pancake. Theirs is thinner and smaller than most, so it may seem more expensive. But everywhere else I've ordered from is thick and starchy and floppy by comparison. Purple river wins! (3) the wings. With garlic soy. I love these.
One of the best soondubu (tofu stew) I’ve had! It has that home-y flavor that you don’t get at typical go-to soondubu places like BCD Tofu House. I got the soondubu with beef & seafood, and it was SO GOOD. The sides were also good. Get the Level 3 spiciness if you want the regular/mild flavor. I’d imagine that anything lower than a 3 would taste less flavorful/bad.
As a Korean restaurant, Purple Rice covers most of the popular Korean dishes and does them all justice. But what really puts this place on the neighborhood map is their kid's menu. There are several proteins to choose from including bulgogi, steamed tofu, and dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets. And the plate includes lots of other fun things like seaweed, grapes, kid friendly banchan, and a big scoop of rice.
This is a restaurant my sister and I make sure to visit every time we’re in SF! Clean, delicious, and home-style Korean meals perfect for a light but satisfying meal. The owners are kind and even my dad considers this place a jem, which says something as we’ve visited many Korean restaurants across the US as Koreans ourselves. Recs: bibimbap and wings :)
Their stone bowl bibimbap is artisan no doubt. I have to say that I love stone bowl bibimbap and I always order this dish in every Korean restaurant and the one at Purple rice is the best I have ever had so far. Where do I even begin? Their rice is perfect. It is soft but still Shen texture. It is neither too soggy nor dry. Just perfect. The stone bowl is heated to the perfect temperature to give the rice a beautiful crust, but not hot enough to burn the rice. Especially the chef used the perfect amount of oil so it does’t taste greasy. There are a variety of veggies. Each kind of veggie is well seasoned and fresh. Look how thinly sliced the carrot is! They offer home made sauce to go with bibimbap. It is well balanced with a hint of sweetness. The texture is fluid but not too watery and therefore can be easily mixed in and not making the whole bowl watery. The beef is thinly slice, soft and not overly oily. Texture is great. Mostly importantly, it is so well seasoned! The side dishes are very delicate, fresh and not too salty. Finally, the ratio of rice to beef to veggies is just perfect perfect perfect. Their bibimbap is officially the #1 bibimbap on my list. I will definitely go back. Hopefully they could maintain this standard every single time.
It was my first time dinning at this place. The staff was wonderful. I ordered the spicy ramen and chicken wings. The moment I took a sip of the ramen soup, my pallette burst into these delicious flavors. I ordered it very spicy and it was so good! You can taste the seasoning spices. Very flavorful and I totally recommend it. I came here twice just for the spicy ramen. Great place! Great food!
Very very tasty! We got the veg Dolsot (stone bowl of bibimbap, I think) with tofu and WOW! Even the various side vegetables were so good! I’ve been to a few Korean restaurants, and this is by far the best one I’ve ever tasted. Everything is so fresh just right with seasonings and pickings and oil and textures. We didn’t leave any food on the plates or bowls, licked the spoons, and agreed that it was really really good.
This place has become my weekly go-to for comfort food! I love their bibimbop, ramen and kimchi pancake. Super-friendly and quick service too. Plenty of vegetarian & vegan friendly options for most items.
I had a really delicious, mildly spicy tofu stew with purple rice on the side. Our group ordered a very tasty assortment of pickled vegetables as an appetizer. Everything tasted so good!
Been coming here for a while now and Purple Rice has become a go-to spot for a warm and comforting meal. Definitely one of the better Korean restaurants in the city, their soft tofu soup ranks with some of my favorites from LA's Koreatown. Solid sides and appetizers, the wings and the pancakes really stand out. So glad to have this place in the neighborhood!
Best spicy tofu soup in the city. Eating soondubu here in person was an emotional experience, it was truly that tasty. The ultimate ratios of ingredients and spice level, everything was literally perfect. So good we ordered a 3rd to share. We order takeout from here at least weekly and always consistently delicious.
Delicious Korean food at a great price. You get BETTER than what you pay for. Very clean facility and friendly staff. Not only is the quality of food great, the portions were generous as well. Don’t believe me? Peep the pics! Highly recommend if you’re tired of walking the concrete hills, hungry and are in the Haight-Ashbury area.
I've been here three times and I don't even live in San Francisco. Solid, Korean food, good portions, tasty, healthful. I love Hotspot on a cold day, and there are plenty of those in SF.
The best Korean food I have had. The dumplings were juicy and soft. I also tried the tofu stew which was delicious. Even the sides that they provide taste so good. Sad that I’m only visiting SF, would definitely come back here.
Wow! Beautiful tasty food and fast service. Maybe a bit pricy by a buck or two per dish but still very happy and we'll be back for more.
Yummmmmy! I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this as a non-Korean but based on 3 visits to Korea this tested 100% authentic! We had the hot stone bibimbap. Delicious
Stopped by for lunch the other day and was definitely surprised by how great this place was. There was no wait to get a table, I had the Sizzling Works Rice Bowl with Beef Short Ribs-it came out hot and crackling, with perfectly tender ribs and crispy rice at the bottom. My partner had the Works Bowl with Thinly Sliced Beef, which was just as flavorful and satisfying. Great flavors, generous portions I would highly recommend!
So good and very vegetarian friendly! I don’t even like rice and ate two servings of the purple rice that came with my kimchi stew. Highly recommend for anyone looking for stone bowl Korean food.
Walked here at 6:30 on a Sunday and was able to just be seated immediately for me and my friend. There's a good amount of tables in here. Service was very attentive and organized. We ordered the kimchi pancakes, the noodle soup with chicken, and iron works fried rice. The kimchi pancakes aren't huge but still good. Probably wouldn't get them next time though and try out the others. The soup and rice were so good. Great quantity and the chicken and eggs and carbs were all cooked wonderfully. Definitely would eat more of them. Overall I had been hearing about this place for a while so I'm happy I came and happy with what I got. Thanks! ---- Came back again and just as great of an overall experience! I loved the whole chicken soup!
we had the mung bean pancake, veggie soft tofu stew, & veggie dolsot with purple rice. everything was sooo delicious, including all the banchan/side dishes. we had such a wonderful, comforting meal here & sincerely appreciate the vegan labels on the menu – thank you so much Purple Rice! 🫶💖🌟✨
I visited this restaurant when passing by San Francisco. Spicy pork (pork bulgogi) was the best, which is literally a must-order dish of this restaurant in my opinion. It was served with blanched cabbage and soy bean sauce (된장), I could make a wrap with rice, meat, soy bean sauce and the cabbage - as usually we do in Korea, and that was so excellent. I think the chef have perfectly blanched the cabbage. If I lived in SF I would go there every single day.
This place is definitely underrated. I have been coming here regularly at least twice a month and every things I have ordered so far are so delicious. It’s my favorite Korean restaurant in SF. Though I wish they will make their Chicken Wings as a meal that come with side dishes and always come with Radishes Pickles. Fried Chicken and Pickles are just the best. Well I ordered them separately in the pictures and always have couple wings left.
Good Korean food and excellent service. I forgot my bag when I left the restaurant. The waitress found it on the table and immediately sent it to me right outside the restaurant. When lots of other restaurants on the nearby streets are closed during lunch time, this place is open so we came to give it a try. I think we made the right decision. The BBQ short ribs are highly recommended.
Pretty tasty i ordered the kimchi stew, my friend ordered the veggie glass noodle. Wish it was a bit more spicy The waitress was very attentive with the side dishes and giving us more when we finished. When ch by the way were also very tasty and fresh

Purple Rice has been one of my favorite restaurants for delivery on DoorDash and Uber Eats. My favorite item is the Bibimbap with Spicy Pork and Purple Rice, which they call "The Works" ($21). (Don't bother paying $2 extra for the Sizzling works if you're getting delivery, it's certainly not sizzling by the time it arrives. It's filled with vegetables and is relatively healthy. They include a small serving of banchan (Korean appetizers like kimchi and pickled daikon), and the entire set is packaged nicely in a purpose-made paper bowl with divider between rice/meat/egg and the vegetables and sauce. Delivery can be slow and often misses the DoorDash estimate, so I recommend ordering earlier than expected. (I've never eaten inside, so can't comment on service or ambience.)

Decent Korean food. Kimchi stew was not sour like I like it but still decent. Overall, it is 3.5 stars. I'll come back here at some point.
The soondubu soup flavors are there. As solid as it gets. Sometimes, soondubus end up tasting tasteless, but not here. And purple rice? Yes, please. Yum! It was on the definite pricier side though. After the 500 fees it takes to order a dish, lunch cake out to $50+ for two dishes. A bit ridiculous to be real honest. But it’s the times we’re living in I suppose. Oh and also. Their seafood add-on prices were too high. Had some calamari at home that I tossed into my veggie soondubu when it arrived! Win win!
We were really surprised how good this place turned out to be. Quality food that was well prepared. We ordered mung bean pancakes which were nicely fried and freshly prepared. A nice size appetizer that didn't fill us up too much. We got the bibimbop bowl w/ short ribs and the veggie japchae noodle bowl w/ steamed tofu. Both excellent and very flavorful. Portions and price were reasonable. The sides were good not great but not bad (that's why I didn't give them 5 stars). Service was polite and efficient. Definitely want to go back.
Simple place. Good food. We ordered the sizzling pot, mine was the Korean short ribs. A tad stingy on the amount of meat (3 small pieces) but very tasty. Might go back.
Update: I really like the food but both times I've ordered vegan dishes, a small piece of meat made its way into the dish so knocking off a star. A friend and I went there. She got noodles with beef (she said it was the best noodles she's had in a long time) and fried chicken and II got the vegan kimchi soup and both were excellent. And I love that they have a great and wide selection of vegan and vegetarian options. The service is really good too. Looking forward to going back and trying back the noodles.
The food here is solid but beyond the uniquenous of the eponymous purple rice, it's nothing beyond any good Korean restaurant in the city. Their chicken wings were perfectly crisp but the sweet and spicy chile sauce was pedestrian, tasted like it was pulled from the shelf of a Safeway. Their bim bap was pretty good with the purple rice, and doused with their hot sauce, it made for a great entree. Their short ribs were good but not great, a little tough and not epic in terms of seasoning. This place seemed family owned and run, the source of that speculation being the humorous interactions of the mother and the son who co-served us. It was quite entertaining. Overall, solid and worth trying if you're in the mood for that cuisine and close by.
The place is cute and has nice service. Not the best kimchi in my opinion, it tastes like it needs to ferment for a week or two more. The kimchi stew and soft tofu soup are okay but not the best. Banchan is served and is okay. The purple rice is good!
Solid rice dishes. Highly recommend the iron works with the spicy pork. Flavors are on point. Make sure you get on the waitlist beforehand as turn over is pretty slow. We were a little disappointed with some of the appetizers. They messed up our order at first, so we ended up tasting multiple as a result. Do not recommend the potato based apps--it was essentially an upscale McDonald's hash brown. I would stick to the entrees that is where this restaurant really shines. Would go again.
i ate here the other night with a friend. i had the spicy ramen with chicken. it was pretty good, but was served boiling hot. lol. so i had to wait a few minutes for it to cool down. but that was fine. we also ordered the potato croquettes. the waitress forgot to put in the order for those and brought them after our main courses. she apologized about that, which was nice. we still enjoyed them, and they were good. i would go back to this place.
Food is good but portion size is a bit small. We got the seafood pancake, soft tofu stew and spicy beef stew. The beef was too tough to chew at times. The seafood stew was well flavoured. I noticed the service was also a bit slow when giving us the check and getting to the people waiting to be seated
Everything was good, from food to the service. I got the iron works- chicken and purple rice. Very tasty and piping hot and fresh. My friend got the pan fried rice, which she enjoyed. The sides were delish, refreshing. Love the presentation. Service was prompt and the place was clean.
Came here with a group of 5 and had a short wait to get seated. Good: - The Korean noodle soup was a huge portion size! It was tasty and incredibly - Decent banchan dishes that came with the food - Seafood pancake was good! But the portion size was tiny - Homey vibes and ambiance, super nice staff Bad: - Took a long time to get the food orders to our table - over 30 min - Parking is hard in the area Overall this was comforting food for me and I'd come if I was in the area, but not make a trip all the way out due to parking.
Love this local Korean spot close by to me. Very consistent in the food quality. Pretty spacious and does not get too loud. I love to order the yukgaejang when I come here. The stew has glass noodles and also comes with bowl of signature purple rice. So delicious and a great deal. And of course there are fresh tasting banchan. I’ve asked for banchan refills before and the staff is friendly and will provide it free of charge. I always leave happy and full. I haven’t tried a lot of the other menu items so cannot provide input on that. Next time I should try the samgyetang.
Total Score: 7.05 Bathroom: 3/5 Usable but slightly grimy Customer Service: 3.5/5 Nothing notable, didn’t speak much Ambiance: 3.75/5 Nice moody lighting, very simple and cutesy Food: 4.25/5 Was decent Korean food. Everything was right amount of sweat and spicy. The sides were delish too. Nothing to complain about the fried rice either. Everything was right texture too. Wow: 0/1 Normal Korean Restaurant Total Score = BR + CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW
Pretty tasty, but too sweet/expensive for my taste. The veggie soondobu tofu stew was deliciously savory. Side dishes and short rib were really really sweet. The large size came with 9 pieces (bones) and two steamed cabbage leaves — thought the portion was kind of small for a “large.” Have had the japchae and bibimbap here too and they were also quite sweet.
Nice little spot with great lunch options. Friendly staff. I tried the kimchi fried rice and it was delicious. Wasn’t too busy when we went in around noon

Tasty but overpriced. And changed for an extra rice even though the first one was only half full and not nearly enough to go with the tofu stew. Service is quite neglectful.
The food is delicious. But unfortunately the prices are absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been a customer for almost two years, and the prices have gone up twice. Both times I felt the increases were very aggressive. The price no longer justifies the quality and quantity of food you get, in my opinion.
Slow non existent service. Also kind of a rip off paid an extra 3 bucks for meat and it came with like two slivers. Food taste okay but do better. Was clearly done with food but no check for a minute. Let me reiterate I was 1/2 people here and there were 3 servers. But food is good still support them just train servers better
Great food, authentic and delicious. Bad service. Restaurant was 80% empty but we were asked to stand outside while they set up the table. They took the order separately because we were seated at 2 tables that had been placed together. No banchan refill until it’s fully empty. Very particular about where to place plates even tho we had cleared space. Don’t know why this restaurant has so many quirks, but it made for an awkward and uncomfortable dining experience for the group.
My daughter’s one of her favorite Korean restaurants in SF. Visited for the first time with her and my high expectations. Wasn’t happy with menu selection. I ordered spicy kalbi jjim. Completely surprised it came with LA kalbi with bones. Never thought I’d ever see this. Lol. Minimal condiments. Doesn’t serve with lettuce or garlic like traditional. I asked but they don’t have raw sliced garlic. Tasted like typical homemade not restaurant made. This place is for people who wants to try Korean foods for the first time nearby just to introduce the selections and taste of Korean. I would recommend Han Il Kwan and Wooden Charcoal BBQ in SF for more down to earth Korean taste and flavors. I’m just glad my daughter likes their spicy chicken BBQ 👍
It’s not an authentic Korean dishes at all. The kimchi stew taste was artificial flavors with MSG(which is 미원/다시다) and the rice was dry and like a stone. Strongly do not recommend this place as a Korean!
At best, it’s extremely mediocre and expensive Korean food. They are very stingy with the food so their portions are small despite the how expensive it is, especially the side dishes. Go anywhere else for Korean food.
I had the Kimchi Pancake and Spicy Pork Bibimbap. The pancake was delicious, and the bibimbap was pretty good too! Portions are pretty small for the price though, especially for the pancake. The waitstaff was friendly overall, except for a weird interaction. I was visiting this restaurant with a female friend, and the waitstaff handed me (the male) the check directly instead of placing it on the table. Felt like a bad experience for what was otherwise great service.
Dolsot was surprisingly bland, and the sauce was too sweet and didn’t have enough kick. Looked great but tasted very meh
I don't know, I didn't really vibe with this place. Maybe it was me maybe it wasn't. I ordered the kimchi stew and decided to add chicken for $4. The added chicken was microscopic - like 2 bites - and definitely not worth $4 (To compare, you can buy a *POUND* of chicken for $4 at the grocery store). The overall stew portion size was small and felt like it was worth $12 not $22. I had to eat second dinner when I got home because I was still hungry. I also had the honey ginger tea. I liked it! I would have liked to have some normal water on my table but I guess I had to ask for water? Unclear. Not sure what the deal was. Also, the 1 napkin on my table was basically sandpaper.

Dolsot was surprisingly bland, and the sauce was too sweet and didn’t have enough kick. Looked great but tasted very meh
No, thanks. This place was such a disappointment. We ordered dolsat and tofu soup with seafood. Soup: overly salty. It tasted like they just used those pre-mixed soup seasoning to season it. Dolsat was just as bland, flavorless. Banchan was just as sad. The portions were literally one spoonful. The typical pop-corn Genmai-cha was served in mason jar for $4.
I selected an 11:45 pickup but they made they food immediately, so it was cold by the time I got it.
Outrageously expensive for a really basic rice plate/food. This is insane to pay $31 for 5 little pieces of meat and a big cup of rice… vegetables are barely there… Frankly, ending paying $100 for a cheap lunch composed of 3 minis rice plate featuring few pieces of meat is a scam… this is not a 1star Michelin! Normally, i should pay half of this in a normal Korean place…. Don’t blame the city or inflation.
Stumbled upon the place because of the reviews and was quite disappointed. Ordered the Tofu stew at a medium level and was quite tasteless and watered down. The soup was almost clear and bland. The color or taste from a tofu stew is not about spiciness. When asked how was my meal the first time all I got was a side plate of extra chilli flakes. Paid $3 more for a few strains of chicken. I escalated this a second time and no action was taken. Also my side dishes were not topped up. I don’t understand why am I still tipping when service is non existent.
Worse Korean food. We ordered here due to the high rating. Now I'm puzzled and don't understand why?? The restaurant is overpriced, chicken and rice were super dry and hard, seafood beef tofu and Kimchee fried rice were such disappointment. The kids meal was ridiculous $12 for basically rice, 1 Dino nugget, 2 over fried small potstickers, a spoon of shredded little dry chicken. The "big" chicken grill should have been called mini because of how small it was for $27. It was dry, overcooked like jerky and must have put 1 and half thigh for $27??? I'm baffled.
The food is pretty good, nothing spectacular, but I don't know where these people get off charging $30 for spicy chicken. At cocobang, a far superior restaurant, they charge $17 for the same portion size. And you might argue rent is higher in the haight than it is downtown... but how in the world is the price of these food items twice as high? It's really not good enough to justify the cost. For example, I got this miso stew for $18 and they brought me a cup instead of a bowl's worth. Water cup to scale. Miso is dirt cheap, so is tofu, so is the rest of these ingredients. How is this pathetic quantity of soup so expensive?
I just finished volunteering at a non-profit and was heading home, and saw this comparatively inconspicuous restaurant on my way to the Metro. I asked a local who was walking a dog and they thought the place as good, so I decided to give it a try. It was a relatively busy street, but to my disbelief, there was not a single customer in the restaurant, and it was barely past 1:30PM. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a shot. The menu was relatively simple, so I just ordered the Works (I can’t remember the full name), with purple rice, and spicy seafood (that’s what’s called on the menu). I think it’s nice that the waitresses (there are two) speak Korean (I don’t speak a single word) and understandable English: the fact that they speak Korean gives an authentic feel that’s it’s Korean food. Frankly I didn’t know it’s a Korean eatery until I see the menu: while the restaurant did give me an Asian feel, it could have been other parts of Asiaa. I must say that while I appreciate the variety of the dishes they serve with the Works, the portions are really quite small, and I was really confused about why the bean sprouts (the exact same kind) was both served inside the main bowl, but also as a side dish which accompanied the main course. In terms of taste, the food was honestly just between acceptable and what I would call good enough, but nowhere near great or wow, which is unfortunate, since it was recommended by the local walking the dog, as aforementioned. The service was really questionable, however. The waitresses were both well dressed, with your typical Korean makeup (shiny yet transparent), but not politely friendly: they didn’t serve me water until I had ordered food, even though I already sat down for a long time perusing the menu. Furthermore, they were chatting in a highly audible voice in Korean in an otherwise very quiet restaurant, and never attended to the needs of the customer until asked. They weren’t particularly busy either: they were just wrapping the dining utensil in a napkin. I must admit that I have very limited experience with Korean restaurants, so maybe this is typical in a Korean restaurant where customers are served water until they become a paying customer (by ordering food), or are given service only upon request. This theory remains to be tested in the future, however. Overall, I don’t know if I can recommend the place: while the food was acceptably good, the service was so “unusual,” I am not sure I want to eat there again: I felt the service was very practical—they only serve you when you are paying (it’s a hot day, and if I were a restaurant owner, I wouldn’t mind serving water [which is incredibly inexpensive] even if they haven’t ordered food or decided not to order food after looking at the menu, but that’s just me) and only upon explicit request.
