I just got done having the lunch special. General sauce veggie chicken for 9.50 without tax. It was easily one of the tastiest veggie chicken I've had. The food was hot, the chicken was not over sauced. It had a very nice crispy outter batter. The meal came with white rice, broccoli, and small soup cup. I also found inside of the restaurant to be quit clean and inviting. They had a very nice bar with big screen TV. Very surprising for such a small space. Definitely be coming back.
What a nice, tasty addition to the neighborhood! Lower Haight is lucky to have a range of cuisines, from Thai and Japanese to Italian and Ethiopian, but it curiously lacked a solid Chinese spot. I am so glad YH Beijing opened up here. Two of my favorite dishes which we ordered were executed very competently here: beef pancakes and fish in hot chili oil. The beef pancakes were flavorful and crispy, and the fish was satisfyingly hot and spicy without being greasy. There are a number of my favorite dishes (xiao long bao, zazang noodles) on the menu also, along with meatless options that I am always happy to check out, so I am excited to come back and explore the menu. The restaurant looks fantastic after the recent remodel, and our server was absolutely wonderful and gave great recommendations. Give them a shot! UPDATE: Still as delicious as ever! They have updated their menu, but the mainstays are still there and still delicious, though we mourn the loss of the beef pan fried bao (unfortunately it's now pork). The mala chicken and songshu fish fillet are both fantastic chef's specials, and the fried tofu is a nice, crunchy appetizer. I tried the xiao long bao trío and really enjoyed all of them. The mala XLB were definitely an interesting and delicious twist, but the original pork remain my favorites.
Delicious orange chicken! Great chow mien. They also have great dumplings - highly recommend the chili oil dumplings. I also had a side of the chili oil to put on my chow mien which made it spicy and delicious! The restaurant is clean and looks like it was recently remodeled. All seats were filled. Highly recommend for a good dinner with good portions for a good price. Also great take out!
The roast duck needs to be ordered a day in advance. It comes with pancake wrappers (which I prefer to the bap bread) scallions, cucumbers, hosin, plum sauce and sugar. The container is great as there is warm water under the wrappers to keep them warm and soft to separate. Likewise the duck is precut so no bones to contend with, and kept warm and crackling with a tealight. The soup that comes with the set is amazing, it was actually a highlight for me. The lettuce wraps are also nice and refreshingly light and tasty. Also the house special dry mala mushrooms and walnut shrimp were all delicious would definitely recommend this hidden gem!
We got noodles, green beans, and the duck. All were incredible. The noodles were cooked perfectly; the green beans were delightful; the duck…! It was amazing. 2-3 dishes were perfect for us 2, and we got a few drinks as well.
You have to order the duck ahead of time, or make a duck reservation if you want to eat the tasty duck. We did not know this, and our server was very kind and found us the last duck that was available. It was so delightful- the crispy skin melted in our mouths and the whole experience was great! I would also recommend the green beans and the veggie dumplings, they were also delicious! The whole staff was very kind and we felt very welcomed into the space.
I came here with a couple friends after a close friend of mine recommend it. Immediately we were greeted and led to a super nice corner table which gave us a wonderful view of the rest of the restaurant. Our server was incredibly sweet and every recommendation she had for us was a 10/10. Their friend rice is easily my favorite due to how light and non-oily it was. Usually i find fried rice to be super oily but the fried rice here didn’t have that issue at all and easily earned its place as my favorite fried rice ever. Along with that the string beans became an easy favorite with the flavoring and perfect texture. Also the bao buns for dessert were a perfect way to end the meal! they were so light and perfectly sweet but not too sweet!!!
The salt and pepper fish was my favorite. We also got the sesame chicken, on the request of a 10 year old. It was sweet and good. The YH Chow mein was also great, and the veggie delight mix of veggies was also great. The best parts of the veggies was the sliced mushrooms, and the asparagus. The black buns with the salted egg custard were top notch as well. I enjoyed all of it. But seriously, the fish was perfectly fried, light and fluffy, the salt was on point, and the thinly sliced jalapenos were a perfect foil for the saltiness of the fried fish. If I went by myself, and could only get one thing, it would probably be the chow mein. But if I could get a lunch special, it would be the salt and pepper fish, some veggies, and some steamed rice. Done and dusted.
This is the third time I have eaten at this restaurant. You can say I am a regular here. The food here is is amazing. I loved eating every bite of the duck 🦆 fried rice. The service was very good and the overall ambiance was amazing. I can see myself continuing to come back here. I highly recommend this place.
Food is fantastic with the duck skin done perfectly well. Small portion size is expected so quantity to price may be leaning low. Recommend: Peking duck, vegetable with mushroom
I really like this place. The best sichuan fish I’ve had, flavorful and tender fish, not just a spicy salty oil slick. All the dishes we had were great — garlic pea sprouts, vegetable delight, duck set, scallion pancake, cucumber salad, and chow fun. Staff was warm friendly and helpful
Went here for dinner with friends and it was so delicious! We ordered the duck, wings, crab Rangoon, honey walnut prawn. I enjoyed every dish. The lychee cocktail was very good as well. Great atmosphere and the restaurant is cozy. Definitely will be back!
We went for a late-night meal close to closing time, and even though the staff seemed eager to wrap up, it didn’t bother us. The service was still great, and we were seated quickly. The food was delicious—we had the Wonton Soup, HK Crispy Noodles, Shrimp Shumai, and my favorite, the Double Mushroom with Bok Choy. Portions were generous, and we took the leftovers to go. The Chrysanthemum Tea was a lovely start to the meal. I definitely recommend this place!
A must try! I’ve been looking for authentic pecking duck in the city for a while, and here we go, YH is so far the best I’ve ever had in San Francisco. The duck is tender and juicy, wrap together with the sauce wrap, it hits the spot right away.
Overall good experience. Had to try the 3 course duck meal here. Ordered it a day in advance with a reservation. It was fine. Have had better duck. Quantity is a bit small and the duck skin could have been crispier. Really enjoyed the duck broth soup. The fried mushrooms was surprisingly a huge hit for our group. The sweet and sour fish was decent but a bit hard to pull apart. Clean, modern atmosphere. Would be happy to come back, but wouldn’t go out of my way to come.
This was a great restaurant experience. We came for the Peking duck which you need to call and place an order the day before. It comes with four courses, including peking duck crêpes, duck soup, and lettuce cups. We also got a hot and sour soup for the table to share, but we probably didn’t need it. The duck set meal was more than enough for three people. We all left extremely satisfied pretty good price for what you get. The interior is quaint and the staff are nice.
This is the restaurant I want to gatekeep. Seriously, I pray it never gets too popular—I need to be able to get a table without a wait. The food-Heavenly and the restaurant is squeaky clean and neat. Pro tip: Skip the usual chow mein or chow fun. This is a jasmine rice + family-style mains kind of spot. Trust me, you'll thank me later. (For reference: 3 entrees for 3 people was a lot—we had enough for breakfast the next day. Zero regrets though.) These dishes still live rent-free in my mind: -Mongolian Beef -Basil Eggplant -Pot Stickers -Fried Calamari -General Tso's Chicken -Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce If it’s your first time, order eggplant menu. You'll regret every day you spent not knowing it existed.
This place is absolutely phenomenal. Did a group dinner of 6 folk with the three course duck. Simply amazing. Duck course with about 5 sides left us all delightfully full. Would 100% recommend everyone try this place. Plus, the staff was super friendly and the restaurant was so cute.
Very cute modern restaurant with an ambiance, nice tableware and good service. We ordered Basil eggplant with chicken and shrimps and Sechuan Lohan with meatless chicken and brown rice. Everything was top notch! So definitely recommend this place and I need to come check their famous Roasted duck👌🏻

We liked everything we had and loved some of it. We thought the food was pretty authentic. There were plenty of vegetarian options that were all very good and flavorful! If you want the beijing duck you’ll have to order a day in advance.
Exceptional! We got the duck, which must be ordered ahead and comes with a crispy duck skin dish, as well as the main carved duck - with green onions, cucumbers, sauce and crepes. We also got a small order of duck soup, and a pot of puerh. The quality of the food was great, but what really makes this exceptional was the thematic feel of eating multiple different duck preparations. This came to ~$140 w/ tax & tip for 2 people. Make sure you make a reservation ahead of time for the duck.
Great atmosphere. Service is a little cold. Love their duck — very meaty, not too much skin though. Definitely a very high end experience compared to the other duck spot in the city.
I have to praise the head chef; the seasoning level is divine now. Every dish tastes much better than my memory of it—a constant stream of flavor surprises. The portions remain large and the value is excellent. The decor is well-designed and the environment is pleasant. The servers are professional and thoughtful, making you feel very respected. The sense of fullness after the meal was very strong. This kind of high-quality experience has been missing for a while. It’s worth a visit and your support.
Peking duck (order in advance. $88 for 8 people) and fat juicy pork dumplings (with the sweet soy sauce + vinegar dipping sauce) are so good I’d come here again for those dishes alone - boiled spicy fish was spicy and had good flavor. The broth was good with rice - shrimp fried rice pretty good altho I don’t like shrimp so I avoided it - hong Kong crispy fried noodle not good cus the sauce was too strong and salty. It’d be better with less sauce so that’s how I’d ordering time - the dried green beans not good I wish they were more dried fried and caramelized - dry cauliflower not good it was pretty much boiled cauliflower in spicy sauce with not much caramelization

Came here with couple of my friends on a Sat evening. I reserved our spot on Yelp reservation and were there on time. We had to wait less than 10 mins to get our table but were greeting nicely and quickly. However, one of the guy at front is a bit flat and can sound a bit rude. The sushi was great! Everything tasted delicious and we were in and out of the place within 30 mins. There are not too many options if you are the only Vegan/Vegetarian in the group or someone who do not eat seafood. Ribs were good though. Will go back here during everyday happy hour for a cheaper meal.
The food is good, but should be priced about 1/3 less across the board. They also used to have lunch menu options, however that seems to be gone and could explain why no one came in to eat during what should've been a busy lunch rush hour (12p - 1p). I ordered their dinner portion plate of Ma La Chicken ($23) and red chili oil dumplings ($9). The Ma La Chicken was solid, however having one of the greatest Szechuan places in the country back home in Atlanta has spoiled me with their dry fry spicy chicken which put's YH's offering to shame. That said, the chicken was juicy and the breading was much closer to American fried chicken than the light breading you see for this dish at other Szechuan spots. The main gripe I have is the price which is far too much for a bowl of fried chicken breast chunks. The dumplings were good, you could tell they were freshly made in-house and the oil concoction they were bathing in added a great depth of flavor. YH - if you see this, perhaps consider providing more entrée/lunch box options to make it easier to spend money with you during the work week.
I stopped by for lunch before noon. At first I was the only guest but eventually people trickled in. I liked the ambiance and Halloween decorations. I ordered the crab rangoons and sesame chicken (doesn’t come with rice). Both were good, but nothing mind blowing. I’ll be sure to try the dumplings and chow fun next time! Perhaps that’ll change my review.
Slightly elevated Chinese dining experience in tastefully decorated space that balances well between subdued elegance and playful kitsch. Spicy Mala Chow Fun, tasty, but noticeably lacking in Sichuan peppercorn. The level of numbingness was underwhelming to say the least. Price point on the high side, but portions large enough to share.
Pretty good food here - somehow tasty but not too oily; not a lot of MSG as far as I can tell. Got some special drinks option - I enjoyed our lychee cocktail. Price is a bit ridiculously high. Not really worth it. Service is slow - like painfully slow; for whatever reason… there was only two tables when we visited but it just took so long to ask for anything …

Really good service and a pleasant atmosphere. The Beijing duck was fine, though a bit underwhelming for the price. Solid overall, but not outstanding.
Me and my sister were looking for some Chinese food and decided to go here, a 21 min walk away. We were disappointed when the crab ragune and sweet and sour soup came. It was below average. We didn’t even finish it. The General Tsuo Chicken was good as well as the Chow Fun. But nothing worth the price. Our conclusion is, the price doesn’t own up to the over all taste and service. It took them forever to bring the check. Would not go out of my way to go here.
Review based on the string beans, chicken wings, mapo tofu, and chow fun. We wanted to order the Peking duck, however their oven malfunctioned when we waited an hour for the dish. So this review does not reflect that. Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: Casual with modern vibes and wonderful decor Value: 2/5 The dishes we ordered tasted fine and as expected, but I had wanted more “wow, this tastes better than other places”. It had a bit more western taste than authentic Chinese cuisine. We sat in the blocked off section for larger parties. The staff checked on us, but could have had more frequent refills and attentiveness. Staff was very friendly and when they discovered the duck wasn’t able to be served, they remedied the situation well. My biggest letdown was the value. I understand it’s in a popular neighborhood and overhead may be higher but the price to portion ratio was not good. Smaller portions that other like Chinese restaurants. I’m not a hater and wanted to love YH, but it didn’t happen for me.
Food was delicious, but they need to keep their hours up to date. Says they’re open from 11:30am so went at noon on a Friday, but it was closed. The sign outside their door also said open at 11:30am. We were counting on them for a family potluck so it was especially disappointing. Couldn’t even leave a voicemail cause it was full. We got the chicken wings, cucumber salad, xiaolongbao, black pepper chicken, mala noodles, and spicy mushrooms. Would recommend any of them

Decent atmosphere. Good service. Food was not worth the price. Portions were a little small, not really shareable. And some of the entrees were a bit bland. Small pot of tea is $9. Good vegetarian options.

I was incredibly disappointed to see that without lowering the price of the duck ($88), the restaurant had removed the soup course, thus reducing the number of courses from 3 to 2 without a reflection in the price. The duck course, for which the soup is quite delicious, is no longer worth the price. The duck is delicious, but the portion is small, and even two duck courses with three additional entrees dishes were not enough to feed six people. I hope they return to including soup among the duck course.
Great food. However my partner and I were disappointed by an aspect of the service. A particular employee had been very kind and welcoming to us and we sat by the bar and witnessed her get berated by another employee, seemingly a manager or supervisor of hers, to the point of crying while still preparing drinks. Even while she was crying this person continued to pester her and made her feel even worse. It was incredibly unprofessional and just really really mean spirited. I hope this review gets read by someone who has the power to reprimand her because that was completely inappropriate and no employee should have to put up with that kind of toxic behavior from a superior. Other than her our visit was very great.
In a city filled with some of the best Chinese food, this restaurant isn’t it. The food came out cold, the flavor profiles were bland, they didn’t provide cauces, the pork buns were under filled, the service was inattentive and rushed. It was such a grave disappointment.
I don't know which was worse - the service, the food, or the fact that they left the door open on a cold evening (seemingly to let their DoorDash couriers easy access. When I asked if they could shut the door it seems to take an act of Congress to get it closed). But in fact I think it was the price - at least twice if not three times as much as a Chinese restaurant on Irving or outer Clement would be for a meal which was simply much much better. Every time I go to a restaurant like this I'm reminded that thousands of years of effort has resulted in a cuisine that is simply very delicious when executed well, and anytime anyone tries to turn that on its side in some innovative way- like YH- they fail. Happy to try any suggestions you might have where you think they have created a special angle on thousands of years of Chinese cooking!
