We went their for a weekend and we drove here about 20 minutes long. This place was so different than other udon restaurants we went, but this is more organized and well constructed. I love the udon but I finished way faster than I expected and I’m a fast eater man. Next time I could bring my friends for vacation or meals

Always happy to come here. Don't forget the Nikutama is a condensed soup and not a regular udon with soft boiled egg. The line is always long! The prices quickly add up with all the add ons. They have multiple signs asking for people to order first before sitting. Every time I come there is always a huge handful of people holding seats for their party. It really becomes a struggle to find seating and hope there would be more policing especially during rush hour.

Cool experience, nice udon chain where they make everything fresh and also in front of you. Great experience for kids! Although seating seems tight, everyone eats fast and doesn’t linger. Ask for extra green onions and panko flakes

The line was relatively quick, waited about 30 min on a Thurs night. I've been to the location in west LA, and SF and the line really isn't too bad. Quality is great, on par with the other locations! I like the Nikutama udon cold! I miss the self serve sauce station, but we're living in different times! Plenty of seating with outdoors as well! Good experience!

Very nice service! The food was super good! I ordered a beef bowl and added cut onions, very tasty, and very filling. The atmosphere is really nice and there's always open seating!

I've been to other locations before and this one is just as good! Their udon noodles are so delicious and super fresh - they were even cutting the dough and cooking the noodles right there while we were waiting in line. They have just the right chewy texture! I always get the nikutama because I love the flavor of the beef and the egg is so good mixed in with the noodles and beef. I also always have to get their tamagoyaki tempura since that's so unique and it's just the right sweetness and saltiness! They also have a nice outdoor seating area.

Flavorful broth, sweet shredded Beef, thick rich noodles, this was the perfect late lunch or early dinner. The flavor boost from the crunchy tempura bits, and slivered sweet green onion on top were amazing, a real huge added punch of flavor. Superb

Marugame Udon is a go-to spot for simple yet satisfying meals. Their udon dishes boast a perfect balance of savory broth and sweet condiments, complemented by fresh tempura. The ordering system is a breeze, and the service is lightning-fast. Plus, their to-go packaging is top-notch, making it convenient for those on the move. Highly recommend for a quick and delicious meal!

SF East Bay. Definitely one of our go-to restaurants! When they first opened, I think we ate there almost every week to try everything on the menu! I did find my favorite dish already & more often than not order the kitsune with squid tempura.

- Nikutama [served with sweet flavored beef, hot spring egg, and kake sauce] (regular: $11.45 -- is what i ordered and a large would be $12.95) It was my first time trying marugame udon and it was such a fun experience! i didn't realize that it was like a cafeteria-style (where you'd order size of the bowl, soup base/toppings, then towards the end you can pick and choose your choice & amount of tempura - or none at all). once you've paid then you can find a table to sit down at. id say that the broth is really delicious- (kind of like comfort food) and paired well with the noodles along with my choice of tempura. i'd say that out of the three types of tempura i got the squid and shrimp were my favorite. the potato croquette was good but paired with the noodle & soup base i got i think the shrimp and squid went better. the noodles themselves were also so well made! s/o to the staff members who worked so hard in preparing the noodles/dishes :') - definitely a spot i'd come back to and recommend yall to check out! tip: - utensils are on the end towards the left side of the cash register (self-served) along with water! - they recently came out with vegan option!! :) - definitely kids and family friendly (i also saw some high chairs available near the bathrooms) - there's QR codes/menus posted on the walls/towards the front of the line so you can take a look at the soup base/toppings you can add into your noodles to enhance your experience! - there's plenty of parking within the plaza along with shops and dessert options (sprinkle's cupcake, boba guys, salt n straw ice cream, etc) - there's bathrooms within the restaurant so you don't have to use the ones in the plaza. - it's relatively new still so there's a bit of a wait but it seems that you can easily find a table once you've ordered & picked up your food items!

First time visiting this place, food was good and ambiance. I had the curry udon, it was okay. The only reason I say that is because the curry udon I had when visiting the Philippines had more flavor and was more spicy. But I understand all restaurants make there own dishes differently. Still recommend this place.

The newest addition to The City Center, San Ramon! Authentic Japanese, handmade udon noodles, served in. Cafeteria environment. Bring your tray to the counter, order from the great selection of choices: broth, cold, or curry sauce. Add toppings, and fresh green onions, tempura flakes, and grated ginger! Pick from a great selection of freshly made shrimp, zucchini, Tamago tempura. I highly recommend their nikutama: thinly sliced beef, soft boiled egg, over soup or curry. When you are done, self disposal of your plates, trash, and bowls.

the eats: tantan udon an appreciation post for marugame udon for making tantan - i absolutely love the tantan. tantan is vegan, decently spicy, and honestly a comfort food at this point. i've tried this at least six times now and it hits every time. I will say I do like the san ramon (and sometimes berkeley's) location a bit more than the san jose one, but it’s delicious regardless. I'm so full every time and the price is so worth it

When the lines aren’t long, Marugame is a great place to have dinner. After selecting a type of broth or curry, you get to choose tempura items, scallion, and tempura bits to put into your udon. Although slightly pricey, the portion size justifies it. I got to try the creamy broth udon and tomatama curry broths – both were amazing. The creamy ramen broth was umami and flavorful. The chashu pork and boiled eggs complemented the savory broth well. The udon noodles were cooked to perfection and had great bounciness – they also retain the broth flavor well. I do recommend getting the extra spice ball to spice up the broth. The tomatama curry was thick and extremely flavorful – the spices and tomato taste were amazing.

First time trying any Marugame and I was very impressed. They make the noodles from scratch and you can witness the process through a window. You place your order, and they prepare your bowl in front of you, and then put add-ons as requested. We got the Tonkotsu, Teriyaki Chicken Katsu, Gyudon, and Nikutama. Really good tasting bowls.

The Marugame Udon here in San Ramon really excels with its broth served piping hot, unlike the other Bay Area locations that provide it warm.

I have been looking for an Udon place for a few years and my Japanese expat coworker found this. It was a great success, especially the first time I went there. The second time the Tempura was really disappointing, it really tasted like it had been sitting under thebhaleat lamp for a long time. I will however return again because the Udon was really good. Take the large bowl it's worth it. The place is really noisy and it's not easy to speak to somebody just across the table. The ordering process is simple and straightforward, you choose the Udon soup, then you are given a choice of free toppings, then you can pick up some tempura from under the heat lamps.

We went as a group and all three generations enjoyed the food and it was open late. Kids enjoyed the place… even the ones who are picky about having good Ramen loved the Udon at this place. Going back again to try other things on the menu.

Particularly delicious with the yellow garlic ginger green onion infused within the internal steamed hot noodles that the chefs showed off hand pulled out noodles from the steamed water and the variety of tempuras and curry sauces to choose from their menu is very tasty and very satisfying; because of the sweet heat and strong spicy sauce flavors infused within every bowl with the toppings that was made exactly like the pictures of the menu made this place a great desire to return again to eat another bowl of delicious noodles and the desire of craving for easy soft chewy slurp of noodles makes this place a favorite noodle shop. The layout of this place is very attractive to watch and with the easy convenience access to fountain sodas and plastic utensils and toiletries restrooms is clean enough to continue to like and enjoy this beautiful noodle shop.

Great experience and visit today. I was greeted and helped by Robert who was very polite, friendly and helpful. He provided an extraordinary experience and was very attentive to my order. When I ordered udon to go, I always want the udon not to be cooked which he politely helped me with, he made sure my order was exactly the way I wanted including the teriyaki rice I ordered as well. Robert was also the one who rang me up at the register but he was also the one making the udon, so he was doing 3 different jobs at one point. At the register he stopped to ask if I worked nearby such as Bishop Ranch which I said I do and showed him my employee badge. He then told me I get a discount and provided me one saying next time make sure you tell us you work there because you get a discount on your order. I wasn't expecting that and I come here atleast once a week after I get off work. This was the first time anyone working here has told me that. I told him it was going back to him as I always tip when I get take out there. Robert is a fantastic employee! Hard working, very attentive to customers needs, helpful and attentive. He's a great asset to Marugame Udon!

Maybe I just had low expectations coming to this restaurant, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to order and customize my beef bowl and how delicious it was. Order: - Regular beef udon w/ free toppings: yummy - Shrimp tempura: yummy - Potato croquette/Sweet potato tempura: would've been better if it was warm - Squid tempura: not good Atmosphere: Casual "cafeteria-style" where you wait in line and order, pay after getting your food, and find your seating Service: Nice & Quick Tip: Don't forget to clean up after yourself!

Ordering through app was a little glitchy. After removing an expired card then adding updated card with new expiration date, it didn’t recognize CVV number and kept getting error message. After couple of attempts, ended up adding another card to complete the order through app. Once order was placed, it was really easy! Order was ready on time for pick up. With all items in the bag. One ask: Bring ika tempura and option for red pepper flake back please! They would have made a perfect order.

This one’s better than the Berkeley location but not as good as the Oahu, Hawaii location. The noodles are good. I like the beef dashi, great soup, but you need to like sweet meat. My party had the tonkotsu, which was good but tasted different than real ramen tonkotsu places. Pegasus as different recipe. Lots of seating and the ambiance is great. They also have nice outdoor seating. And when you bust your tray, they have an attendant to help you.

This place is buzzing. Fast line, friendly service and fresh food. The Udon noodles are very good, the broth in the soups yummy and the tempura a nice side to add. We also got the chicken katsu with the sesame sauce on it. This was a little too much and salty for my taste. Next time I would stick with the ramen and tempura

R

I had the Tonkotsu and the broth was as rich as the neighborhoods in San Ramon...without the high price. I brought high hopes for a great udon place and was pleasantly surprised that this did not disappoint. Four stars for today. I will give another score after I've tried more than one dish and a few months have passed to check if quality is consistent.

Very good food and solid value for the price. I ordered both noodle and rice dishes. The udon was excellent, the broth was well prepared, and the noodles had great texture and quality. This is clearly where the restaurant shines. The rice dishes were more average. In my experience, mixing the rice with sauce too early caused the rice to become overly soft and lose its texture. That said, it is still filling, and acceptable if you are very hungry, just not the highlight of the menu. The side dishes were also quite good, and overall the flavors really brought back memories of Japan. If you are craving something comforting and Japanese-inspired, this is a great place to visit. I would strongly recommend focusing on the udon, which is where this restaurant truly excels.

Always crowded and in upper price range becausebecause of location. Not much options for vegetarian if you’re not vegetarian then you can go try with a few menu options. I highly doubt I will visit this location. I will try it on a different location. Will recommend but it’s not my go to place.

Very good udon. Noodles were perfect and broth was very flavorful. They provide these small plastic spoons. I hating using this spoon! We waited about half an hour since the line was out the door. The conditional health pass is very concerning considering how this place is new and there are no excuses of not keeping food at the proper temperature. I took off a star because of the lack of soup spoons and obviously the health violation.

If you are not a fan waiting in line, do not go at 11:30 am on Sunday. We had waited for 50 minutes to get our noodles. I am happy that they still have vegan option and it’s really delicious. However, the place was packed and a lot of people occupied the seats before placed an order, and we had to sit at the bar in the end.

When there group of 9 (5 adults and 4 kids) on Friday (after Thanksgiving) for lunch. There is line but not crazy long as the pictures. We probably waited 30 mins. I like the setup and show noodle made fresh. Noodle is order to made like fast food cafeteria style. 1st Pick the broth 2nd size of bowl - Regular or Large. Regular just one bowl - you could see the guy weight each bowl with noodle. 3rd -- pick the topping. Tempura -- you pick yourself on to plate -- cashier will watch what your pick. Be careful and double check because I got charge twice for 1 item because I pick up the second one and put back. Cashier thought I pick 2 instead of 1. Indoor and outside seating. This place is crowded, we have 1 person look for table fit 9 of us while other wait in line to order the foods. Indoor seating is pretty tight. Self serve - utensil, napkins and water. I had Nikutama (Large), broth is sweet, I don't like as much but the noodle is chewy. Soft boiled egg (med) is good but is just lukewarm. Broth is not crazy hot that would burn your hand if touch the bowl, just hot enough to see steam. My 5 yrs niece got Kake (Large) -- She like it but she said is not enough noodle. She finished all the noodles but not the broth. She still hungry and want more noodles. We did not order more noodle since we dont want to get back in line. Tempura --- sweet potato and Chicken katsu is good, other is okay Also ordered Tonkatsu and Curry Nikutama.

Super fast service getting the food, but my soup was not even hot. I prefer my udon soup hot, not just warmish especially on a cold night. It’s loud in there, so sometimes the workers can’t hear you — we had to tell them no beef (we don’t eat beef) and he was putting it in my bowl when I asked for the tofu bowl. Not his fault that it was loud. Pumpkin was good, potato croquettes were oily. I won’t come back unless I am starving and there was no choice. Lol.

I didn't like the food myself, because I felt it sugary, salty and oily, maybe this only me, even I like the jabanaese food, the Udon is ok, I.like the way they make it, the staff are nice, prices ok, I like the decoration.

This place went completely down the drain! Our yesterday’s take out was a disaster. My daughter’s $25 udon came with literally 1oz of broth. She was eating dry noodles and fillings. Tempura shrimp that is almost $4 a piece now shrank at least 50% in size and were the tiniest we have ever seen. We also ordered 2 Calamansi drinks that used to be a delicious calamansi flavor - got 2 bright red yucky artificially flavored drinks that tasted like God knows what. And if you are going to give the usual excuse that you were understaffed - that is not your customer’s fault. We still pay you the same $$$ for our food whether you are understaffed or not. Never going back.

Ordered pick up on New Years Eve, wasn't sure if the hours online were accurate since it was a holiday but I put in the order anyways on Doordash just in case they were still open. Thankfully the order was confirmed so I walked over to the resturant to pick it up. When I got to the store they were indeed open but when I asked for my order they simply said that the order came in too late and they "forgot" to refund it. Normally this wouldn't be an issue because I understand that sometimes these systems are automated, however, they seemed to just be too lazy to do it because an hour later the order still said "ready for pickup" so I had to just contact doordash myself. No apology or anything, kind of just irked me. Won't be ordering here again.

Unbelievable! This restaurant actually kicked us out just for sitting at an empty table outside while we waited for our friends who were INSIDE ordering food. They told us we had to stand there like idiots until our friends finished ordering before we were allowed to sit. How does that make any sense at all?!

I’ve been here several times before, and the food and service have usually been good. However, on this particular visit, the experience was very different. When we walked up to the counter, we weren’t greeted at all not even a simple hello. While that alone wasn’t a major issue, things went downhill from there. I asked the employee (Caucasian male blonde hair) if the $10 special included beef option. He whispered something to another coworker and began snickering, which made it very clear that he was talking about us. He then bluntly and loudly said no. Throughout the ordering process, he continued to show a noticeable attitude. To make matters worse, the beef udon was terrible. It smelled off and tasted unpleasant, which was surprising given my past experiences here. I’m not sure if the chef has changed or if something else was going on that night, but the quality was unacceptable. Because of this experience, I won’t be returning, and I would advise others to think twice before coming here as well.

They kicked my 3 little girls out of the restaurant when they where sitting down to eat their food. We just had a horrible experience. I have 3 little girls ages 7, 4 and 3. I had them sit down at a table while I ordered. They were kicked out of the table so I got out of line and sat down with them while my wife ordered for us. A worker which called himself Adam, he was wearing a red shirt, started harassing us, saying we needed to get up from the table until we had our food. I said my wife is paying for the food and he kept arguing with me as I just sat there waiting. Then he started yelling at me. Another worker said they were going to stop the food line until we got out of the table. I said well don't you want us to order. But I said that's fine you can stop the line that is your business. if you want to deny me service just let me know and we can leave. But the guy in the red shirt kept harassing me. A minute later my wife shows up with our food. But Adam kept yelling at me. I was with my kids and they were scared. What kind of restaurant is this This happened to another family with 2 little kids right next to us. They are so rude and treated us horrible. What kind of customer service is this? I don't need to deal with this kind of harassment when I'm providing them business. Harassing my 3 little girls like that. I came here for a night out to enjoy with my family not to be harassed. Definitely won't be coming back!
