Peet's Coffee

Peet's on upper State is my favorite coffee spot in SB. Things I like: (1) Across the street from my gym, which means easy pre-workout caffeination, (2) the store is clean and well-maintained (unlike the threadbare stores of another large coffee chain competitor in town), (3) the staff are really friendly and polite, and they remember my favorite drink, (4) they have both soy and almond milk, and they don't charge extra for them, and (5) the Peet's reward program is far more generous than Starbuck's, since it is based on number of visits, rather than on dollars spent. They have their own parking lot, and parking is always available. Give Peet's uptown a try!

Coffee is incredibly satisfying, their rich coffee brings out all the flavor from their high quality beans. Atmosphere feels very professional and definitely gives off a "We know Coffee" vibe

Zoe is one of the best baristas encountered! Not only was she nice and upbeat so early in the morning, she also made an incredible coffee!

Always great coffee and a friendly staff in a convenient location. Not the best place to work or study, but the back patio is great for meeting a friend for a casual conversation.

It tastes stronger than starbucks, but I pay one dollar more than what I pay for the same drink in starbucks! The store is usually less busy than starbucks. Unique atmosphere!

This review is specifically for Marilyn (I think is her name. She has long brown hair and is in her early 20s). I was having issues with the Peets app and connectivity and wanted to redeem some points and a coupon I had. Marilyn tried to help me but I had no reception, so she helped me out with redemption on my drink. The manager (I think) with glasses overheard me talking about it to my friend and asked me what had happened, then went over and spoke to Marilyn about it like she shouldn’t have done that. What’s so sad is that Marilyn did a great job, helped me out and I would have definitely stopped by this Peets when I pass through SB again. But the manager (or lead, whoever she was) listening in to my conversation and then talking to Marilyn about the situation made me feel what she did was wrong, when she was trying to make it right. Please give Marilyn a shout out and a raise. She’s great!

I'm normally a Starbucks guy so I went to the Corner Bakery across the street from this shop to get a latte. When the machines were broken I walked across to Peet's and I'm glad I did. Peet's coffee is smoother than Starbucks and it was a pleasant place.

When there are enough people working, this is a great place. The addition of quick-to-go hot food is great when I'm in a hurry or headed to be on the road. The people who use Peets -- and other coffee places too, as their daily office, taking up space for hours at a time -- on computers and on phones, that I don't care for; I like meeting friends for coffee and the "all-day" occupants make it difficult to find a place to sit. Wish they would limit time. On the other hand, I understand why office space is not affordable and there is free wifi. I'll take my medium cap and be happy because it's my favorite place in town.

The best espresso in real ceramic cups, quiet, roomy, furnishings could be bigger (tables). Great service. Bulk coffee -- try Garuda for espresso. Cool semi-hidden location. Meet clients here. Wifi nice recent addition. Reading chairs would be great — one thing Starbucks has e.g. @ Montecito location. Coffee superior here though... :-)

Great coffee and commitment to friendly customer service. Sometimes hard to find a vacant table to sit inside, and occasionally seems low staffed, especially when customers order fresh roasted beans.

I have been going here for years, so I really like it. The reality is that it is not really keeping up with other places when it comes to things like comfy seats and general ambiance.

Don't bother with their loyalty app. It took me a couple months to make my 15 visits...and the free drink reward just vanished from the app. Apparently it expires with a short shelf life. This store has been struggling with staffing for awhile, but they try hard.

This location is awesome! My husband and I stopped in here on our way up north and the service was excellent. Stephane made the whole experience great. Came in again recently and the quality of the staff has really gone down hill... having to knock off two stars due to the poor service and quality of service.

Great if you want Starbucks. However, not my kind of coffee. Just another burnt roasted Starbucks copycat. Our Latte was bland and the Americano tasted weak and watered down with a dull espresso.

Nice enough. Kind of corporate -- they'll repeat your name 19 times, because a b-school study once found it correlated with bigger tips. And will always try to upsell you. But whatever -- most of us are calloused enough. They're not bad people

It has come to the point where it almost feels like she's doing me a favor. I will say that this is isolated to her as the other staff are much friendlier and welcoming. I will update my review if the service improves.

Came here with the intent to buy some coffee and do some work. On both the website and the app it is stated that the location closes at 5:15p on Fridays. After being there for about 45 minutes I was informed that the cafe would be closing at 3:30p??? I even checked the door when walking out and it also said they close at 5:15p. I am frustrated because I drove 20 minutes to get here with the intent of getting some work done. Moving forward I will definitely go to a coffee shop that is truthful with their operation hours and would recommend others to either call the cafe prior or pick another coffee shop completely. This was pretty unprofessional and deceiving. Everything else was fine.

The workers here won’t even look at you much less say hi. The barista Carol is miserable & will kill any positive vibe. Will not visit again.

Rude staff. Unfriendly girls, didn't even say hi when I entered. I was the only customer at the time. Felt very unwelcome. Also when I asked questions they answered very "matter of factly"and couldn't speak loud enough for me to hear. I had to lean close to them to even hear them. This place is ridiculous. Just go somewhere else. Maybe they dont pay their employees enough to really care.

Ordered a hot matcha and it tasted like milk with a hint of matcha. Ended up tossing it. This has a couple of homeless guys living in the parking lot.

Entire staff was rude. Didn't acknowledge me or ask for my order just stared at me until I realized she was ready for my order. She took my name however the Next person didn't say my name when the order was ready just announced what it was and walked away. I observed the opposite treatment for other customers. Probably had a problem with my race...

If you want loose leaf tea near this location vices and spices from around the world is down the street.
