Opinions de Smoked Out BBQ Santa Clara
One of my favorite, if not the best BBQ joint in the Bay. The staff inside is super friendly and welcoming. This little hole in the wall is sure a gem in Santa Clara. I got the brisket and tri tip. The brisket pulled away with ease and the tri tip was tender and packed with a nice smokey touch. As for the side, the dirty rice, was quite a treat. This place has some of the best tasting spicy bbq sauce I've ever had. Definitely recommend! 10/10👌👌 Downright good BBQ done the way it should be!
Decided to do takeout for the first time in a while and I didn't regret it. This place is great! I loved the ghost pepper BBQ sauce. I'm a huge fan of spicy and that was good. It paired well with the sandwich I ordered. Coleslaw on top only made it better. The tater tots and mash potatoes were also awesome. It's kind of a difficult spot to find but finding it is worth it. I honestly didn't know there was a place like this so close to where I live. Would recommend.
Some of the best BBQ meat I have ever had in the Bay Area. The tri-tip and brisket are a must-try, and the dirty rice and tater tots are addictively good! The sauces are also great, but beware of the spicy ones (surprisingly spicy). Fast and efficient service if you order through the ChowNow app, but if you don’t order ahead, you could end up waiting for a long time. Not much of a dining atmosphere in the small eating area. Parking is a major challenge, and it’s easy to miss the entrance. Just follow the sign to Holyland Restaurant.
Yummy bbq food! More of a takeout place but the meats and sides are very good!
This place is the definition of a hidden gem. Tucked between a bunch of industrial buildings, it’s super easy to miss, but once you find it, you’re in for something special. Total hole in the wall vibe, but the food speaks for itself. Everything’s packed with flavor, the portions are generous, and you can tell they actually care about what they’re serving. It’s the kind of spot you almost don’t want to tell too many people about so it stays under the radar. Absolute must if you’re anywhere nearby!!
I enjoy their tri-tip and hot links a lot! Really good texture and flavor. I'm not really a brisket person (too greasy) but my friends really love it here. The corn bread is a hit-or-miss. Some days are a little too dry.
Cute hole in the wall, owner or chef was really nice, I have a bunch of BBQ, and this is some of the best brisket and pork. I want the biggest fan of their sauces, but I found one I liked. Chili wasn't great but bread and Mac n cheese was great.
Fantastic BBQ. Generous portions and sides were really good too. Can you open a shop in Oakland???
This in my opinion is the best bbq spot around. I ordered the 3 meal combo with 2 sides. It was chicken, brisket , and a hot link. They all were so good!!
Meat is good, sides are good, sauces are good. 100% coming back in the future. We ordered to go and we smelled it before we saw it. That smell raised expectations and the sight and taste lived up to those. We got tri-tip, pulled pork, and ribs with Cole slaw and dirty rice. Ate it too quickly so no photos. Definitely give this place a try.
I came focused on meat only. 1/2 pound of brisket and 1/2 pound of pork. I crushed through the brisket in a second. It was INCREDIBLE. Pork was super tasty as well. Can't wait to come back and try more! Super helpful and courteous behind the counter.
The best brisket in California hands down. I think about this place at least once a month. They do have rare misses but a majority of the time it is heavenly (vs good). Pulled pork, chicken, and ribs are also some of the best I’ve had and are more consistent. Simple and plain interior and basic plating. The brisket will run out at a certain time daily. The coleslaw and bbq beans are my go to sides and the pickles are great Busy but friendly service as well. Parking is in a business complex that is generally not empty but there is parking on the side columns
The pork ribs and chicken were amazing. Same with the Mac and cheese, and dirty rice. Super quick service even during the busy lunch rush
The food here far exceeded my expectations. Since it’s not located in a typical busy plaza, I initially underestimated this place—but it definitely rivals well-known BBQ chains. The grilled meat is exceptionally tender and juicy, with rich marbling that stays beautifully within the meat. The outside has a perfect crisp while the inside remains soft and flavorful. The interior of the restaurant is modest and not very spacious, but it’s always bustling with customers. If you come late, you might have trouble finding a seat. There’s also a steady stream of takeout and delivery orders, which speaks to the restaurant’s popularity.
4.6/5 for the brisket and pork ribs. I think it’s one of the best bbq places in the bay. The garlic corn bread was also so good. Also friendly staff.
Ribs, hot links, and pulled pork were crazy good. Get there early, I arrived around 1:30pm on Friday and they were sold out of brisket and tips. Will definitely be back to try them out.
Honestly one of the best BBQ spots I've been to in the bay area. Really out of the way and basically no seating with short hours. But it's still a fantastic spot. Chili is great, hot links too, the tri tip and brisket are solid as well. All at quite a fair price point, would recommend.
Hidden gem has a small space for dine in and a lot of take out demand. BBQ is superb with a choice of sauces on the side. Brisket is soft and moist, Pulled pork full of flavors. White beans are a good side dish in combo plate ($22), and they give you large servings 😋
Went on a little detour to pick up some bbq for team lunch.. gotta say it was pretty worth it! First impression is.. the location sucks for parking. It's in this little complex surrounded by these companies so parking can be a pain. Parking aside.. this location is truly a hole in the wall spot! The vibe given by the employee is refreshing.. they're definitely passionate about their job. I ordered a variety of items... tri tip sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, brisket and hot link, tater tots (favorite side!), mac and cheese... well you get it haha. Last note.. they're really generous with their sauce.. I only asked for one of each and they made sure I left with more than I can even eat. They do make their own sauce so come give it a try!
Hole in the wall spot tucked back where you would never see it unless you're looking for it. They close at 230 and they're usually sold out of ribs and brisket well before then. I've been visiting San Jose for a bit and trying all the spots and this one I hadn't made it to because of the hours but I finally made the time on this trip. Hands down the best bbq in San Jose/Santa Cruz that I've found. I got chicken and pulled pork and it not only stood up against any plate of brisket/ribs/tritip I've had out here but I don't know if I won't be getting both on my next visit. Which will be tomorrow.
Came to dine in for lunch on a Saturday and they were very fast, best Mac n cheese I've had in a long time! $30 for everything pictured which fed 2 people. Will definitely be coming back but would probably just do takeout
Recently took a trip to Texas and tried several different BBQ places there and I have to say those places have nothing on Smoked Out BBQ!!!! Smoked out BBQ are the best!!! We tried the pulled pork, ribs, tri tip, chicken and the brisket. Sides we have tried are the potato salad, mac n cheese and the dirty rice. Let me tell you this place is the BOMB...💣 !!!!! OMG...their brisket is so juicy and delicious!!! And their BBQ sauce is so delicious too!! This is my 2nd time here only cause we live 2+ hrs away put everytime we come into town we will be coming here. Some advise: if you know your coming order online as they are only open from 11am to 2:30pm and they run out of food fast especially the brisket!!!!
Amazing BBQ joint. The service is very quick and the portions are massive. Their selection of BBQ sauces is insane. Be careful some are very spicy. I loved the hot links and BBQ chicken. They close early though so it’s tough to make it out there sometimes.
One of the BEST BBQ's I have been to. We discovered this place by chance. Customer service was excellent, employees were friendly. The chicken was moist, some of the best I ever had. The sauce was great and I am very picky about BBQ, I have bbq from all over and those was too notch. I recommended ordering online as they run out of food quickly.

I had the two-meat meal with brisket and ribs—both tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The hot sauce added a great kick. I’ll definitely be back for more!
Sooo good!!! Location definitely through me off at first, I was a bit hesitant. So glad we gave it a shot. We had the Tri-tip Sandwhich, brisket sandwhich, tator tots, potato salad,Mac n cheese, dirty rice, chili beans. All of it was delicious! House made pickles and bbq sauces were amazing as well. Will be back! 🤗😋
Best BBQ I've ever had and I've tried a bunch. Hot links and ribs are perfection, potato salad is on point and I'm picky about potato salad. I won't go anywhere else for my BBQ fix. Update 2/7- my $28 pastrami sandwich that was supposed to include coleslaw and tater tots but only included coleslaw. I didn't know this until I was too far away to turn back. I'll give them a pass on this one because the guy actually had forgotten my coleslaw but ran it out to me before I got to my vehicle. Sandwich was delicious though
Visited on the recommendation of a friend. Nice operation, will visit again. Had the 2 protein & 2 side combo to go (online ordering was super convenient) with brisket, hot links, slaw, and beans. The sides were good - cilantro in the slaw in case you're sensitive. Brisket and hot links were generously-portioned and good. The hot links weren't particularly spicy, nor snappy, but fine. The highlight for me was the sauce game! Appreciatively-tried all four: - Pineapple BBQ - Thai chili - Ghost pepper - XXX Great selection of spiciness and really good flavor in all four.
Got to try Smoked Out BBQ for lunch delivery. The BBQ itself was delicious. The brisket was nice and juicy with a delicious crust. The pork ribs were smokey and tender. The beans were ok, smaller beans than I expected, not overly sweet. The cole slaw was also just ok, lots of mustard in there. Over all I would go back and try some of the other sides next time.
A friend suggested we meet at Smoke out BBQ for lunch. I got the tri-tip and the chicken. My fall back side was Coleslaw. It was a little over $20. It was very busy with only 1 guy out front. It was 15 minutes before he could take our orders for dining in. Worth the wait. I've never had such tender tri-tip and tasty chicken. There was enough left for a meal the next day. I had to add a side since I did finish the coleslaw. I would go back and recommend it to all. It's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall place. Inside seating is limited as is parking. Go and enjoy.😋
We ordered combo 4, with tri tip, brisket, ribs, mac and cheese, and potato salad. The mac and cheese and potato salad were good. The ribs were ok, and the brisket was kinda dry. The tri tip was juicy. We also ordered a side of tator tots, which were a big portion. In an office area so kinda out of the way. Solid barbeque, would go again for the tri tip.
Excellent bbq. Tried smoking pig the week prior and this blew it out of the water. One exception was the dirty rice. It fell way short. Dry and felt a few days old. Come for the meat. 1 star for the depressing atmosphere. Bring an interesting friend to counteract the dull vibe
Is definitely one of the best I’ve ever had outside of Texas. Though it’s a little too salty for me, I’d still say it’s very flavorful and cooked very well. I’m amazed that a small hole in the wall could attract so much customers from near and far. Thumbs up for them!

Food is fantastic, the owner should seriously consider hiring more people. This place take forever to take order
Great food, brisket is a little dry but their tri-tip is perfect. I've been eating from this place for a while on a regular basis however I can never get tri-tip if I use them through forkables so they get a lower rating for service. It's a small but busy restaurant (maybe that's why service matters less to them) with a few tables and mostly serving pick up or delivery customers, not to expect much in terms of atmosphere. Overall I like eating from here but would eat more often if their online orders had the trip-tip option.
First time we went they ran out of brisket so got chicken and sides instead. Chicken - 5/5 tender, not dry at all and good flavor Mac and cheese - 4/5 not a lot of flavor but still good Chili - 3/5 flavor is good just too oily Second time we went, we got brisket… Brisket - 0/5 so hard, too salty just like beef jerky, hardly any fat in it We figured it was maybe a bad batch so we went today to try it again and same thing. Really wanted to like it, but just couldn’t. Service is nice and the place is well maintained. Bathroom is clean too.
Place opens at 11am. Closes around 3pm. Went on a Friday. It’s very popular. It gets busy. Lots of large catering orders come out so make sure you plan ahead and come as soon as possible. I wasn’t impressed I’ve been here twice cause my boss loves this place. I had the tri tip sandwich once and the 2nd time i tried the brisket sandwich with tots. Both times the meat tasted dry and flavorless. The hot sauces didn’t add flavor and they were not even spicy. If it’s not spicy it should not be label hot sauce. Was disappointed specially since it was so hyped up for me. The tots were good. Then again how do u mess up tots.

Got the brisket sandwich and tater tots. Neither were hit, but a decent warm. The bread of the sandwich was really good. The brisket, as others said, was pretty dry and lacking seasoning. See photos lacking any type of smoke rings too. The coleslaw was good. Largely chopped and mustard-y.

What’s the whole point of having a phone number if they’re never going to answer , tried to place a big order ahead of time, tried calling the day before and 15 min before they open but never answer . I’d recommend the smoking pig because I know they would never do that.
This the side on a $30 plate? 6 ounces of meat. 6 ounces of fat on 3 protein meal. Never again. Absolute garbage standards but we are in the Bay

Came all the way down here since I was craving some brisket, and had heard great things about this place. I got here at 12:30, only to find out they’re out of brisket and pork ribs. How do you run out of your (probably) best selling items halfway into lunch service? This reeks of poor management.
