Opinions de Manchego Santa Monica
Been coming here for years and it is always a great experience. Everything on the menu is delicious and consistent. Ambiance and service is always great as well. Very underrated spot but I’ll take it because I can usually get a last minute reservation, yet the place is always full with locals.
I am not a big fan of Spanish cuisine. I know it’s delicious to others, however I don’t like seafood and don’t eat pork. Which is why I don’t choose Spanish cuisine as my top. For this occasion it was a friend of a friend’s birthday. Manchego was absolutely beyond delicious, the beef short ribs were unbelievable. Their Patatas Bravas with Aioli were delectable. Beets salad was one of the best I’ve ever tried, full of amazing flavors all in one dish. Something simple yet delicious was the olive, covered with smoked paprika. Little did I know I was going to find out about my new favorite wine. I’ve always love albariño. Although Eduardo Peña blow my mind. A must try! I highly recommend this restaurant. Not to mentioned the friendly attentive service.
Lovely place! Cute small place, attentive service - EVERYONE who works there. Delicious food! Deserves more than 4.5! We had devilled eggs, patatas bravas, avocado salad, octopus, short ribs, lamb meatballs, gazpacho (one of the best ones in my life). Red sangria and margarita!! Everything was great and we were super full!
A petite-rustic-Spain restaurant. Manchego is a cozy gem in Santa Monica that blends Spanish charm with a welcoming, neighborhood vibe. From the moment you step in, the ambiance strikes a perfect balance between intimate and lively — ideal for a date night or a small gathering of friend. The tapas menu is the star here, featuring a rotating selection of classic and inventive small plates. The bacon-wrapped dates and patatas bravas are consistent favorites, while the imported manchego cheese (of course) adds a rich, authentic flavor to multiple dishes. The wine list leans heavily toward Spanish and Californian varieties, with helpful staff who are more than happy to recommend pairings. What sets Manchego apart is the attention to detail — not just in the food, but in the service. The staff are attentive without hovering, and genuinely seem to enjoy helping guests explore the menu. Pricing is reasonable given the quality and location, especially during happy hour from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Highly recommended for lovers of tapas, wine, and relaxed sophistication. I am just not sure of the live music time, but it was offered here too.
Took my Spanish exchange student (17 years old) here for dinner. She orders pulpos (octopus) and we both got manchego and jamón. The food was excellent. She felt that the flavors and taste were perfectly authentic to Spain. Service was very attentive — we must have had our water refilled 10 times. Loved the Spanish music…it was such a quaint little girls date!
What a beautiful experience! I am very happy I came to this restaurant. The food was out of this world, also the service and staff were amazing. The place is very romantic and homey. We ordered bunch of varieties of dishes, like jamon wrapped dates, membrillo glazed pork belly, Catalan chicken and much more. Trust me every dish was unique and delicious. I highly recommend this place.
Excellent Sunday Brunch with Bottomless Sangria*red or white* or Mimosas, Spanish Tapas and breakfast & regular menu items. There's not a lot of poultry items like chicken or turkey. So be prepared. However, the mushroom croquettes & lamb meatballs were DIVINE!! The omelette and salad was soooooo fresh and the papas were crispy and flavorful. Both indoor, outdoor & patio seating available. Extensive wine list both reds and whites. The restaurant staff was very professional and hospitable. This is definitely a hidden gem in Santa Monica. Give them a try. Our dining experience was OUTSTANDING!!! Thank u 🌹
Came here for happy hour, which is everyday from 5pm to 6:30pm. There's a good amount of HH items available at a lower price. We enjoyed all the dishes, but the goat cheese + dried fig tostado, garlic shrimp, bacon-wrapped dates, glazed pork belly, octopus, and short rib were my favorites! I love how there's a good variety to try, and the cost wasn't as much as I would've expected. Service was good too. The staff was friendly and checked on us often.
For the price point and style of the restaurant, service is lacking. The bussers kept the table clean and our water glasses full, but it was hard to get a check, and in spite of us saying we wanted to order more dishes, all of our food had come to the table, we ate it all, then we had to wave the host down to order more. Our server was nice, but he just wasn’t around much. The food is good, but nothing really blew me away. The atmosphere is nice, but for a restaurant of this style and price point, I expect more attentive service and just overall attention to detail. If I’m in this part of the city, I’d consider coming back for happy hour again, which has some good deals. It’s worth checking out. I wanted to love this place because it has a lot of potential, but it just doesn’t quite deliver in my opinion.
Fine Spanish tapas are served in European portion, not mega sized American portion. Hence, every dish has been well prepared and will meet your expectation. The place is spacious with outdoor dining halls in the front and back of the restaurant. They do not serve kids menu, but the potion is agreeable.
A little pricey for what you get, but everything was really good. Small tapas dishes to share, that you get maybe 1-2 bites of each (between 2 people). Top it off with wine, and you’ve got a fantastic meal here. Great date spot or cozy, quiet, dark-ish spot to chat (we went as 2 gals)! Service was really attentive and professional
Tapas spot on Main Street. Came here for a Valentine’s dinner and they had live music out in the heated patio. Service was especially slow (but our waiter was nice), but the bright side is that you can have an especially leisurely meal. Reservations can be made online in advance. We ordered the mushroom croquettes, Catalan chicken, tortilla española, jamon wrapped dates, and mac and cheese with bacon. The dishes were good but the best were the dates and the mad and cheese. The tortilla española came with a salsa and an aioli on the side but the aioli did taste sour (I think one of the ingredients used was past its shelf life). Other than that, it’s a good spot for an intimate dinner or date night.
A good place to go if you need to switch up date night or you're going out for a gossipy dinner evening with friends. The braised beef, hanger steak and dates were all much better than we expected. Their sangria is popular and affordable, but the wines/prices on the menu are decent too. Great place if you are looking to have a bottle of wine. Flourless chocolate cake is divine.
This is a decent Tapas restaurant. Most dishes were good, including the meat and cheese plate. The churros and shrimp were excellent. In my opinion, the paella is not worth it, as I found it overly salty and not particularly nuanced in flavor or contents. Service was very good, though parking nearby can be a pain.
Food is good , nothing memorable . Quite expensive for what you get in my opinion. Our service was ok, and they needed to be reminded of some things we ordered. The worst part was the space being packed , and people kept bumping into my chair, both those sitting behind and those walking by.
My wife and I really wanted to give this place a great review but sadly I can not. I give this 1 star because I was having dinner in here last week for the first time. I had heard great things. However the service was beyond horrible. First off our Server, Osti who had mentioned to someone else ( I overheard that she was the owner’s niece ) Initially I thought we would be getting excellent service then. She seemed very flustered throughout the time she spent taking our orders and almost angry as well. It seemed she was training a nice gentleman to also be a server, as she pointed out he would occasionally be listening in on our order under her direction, for his training. I felt terrible for this person training because she spoke to him in such an unbelievably cruel way, multiple times throughout our order. She even made eye contact with me and rolled her eyes and said “sorry” because she thought he wasn’t putting our food order into the hand held machine thing they hold, quick enough. I thought this gentleman was doing fine, clearly on his first day learning a new job, and was much more polite and pleasant to be around than she was. He could also see her rolling her eyes and speaking negatively about him but unlike her, he maintained a professional and polite demeanor. It made me and my wife very uncomfortable to see the way she treated this new hire. Constantly telling him things, then looking at us, or other employees and rolling her eyes and trying to express her dismay or frustration to this new hire. It was very petty and sad to witness ( the owner’s niece ) portray this restaurant in such negative and distasteful way. Me and my wife will not be returning again. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable witnessing a waitress basically bully her coworker the entire meal. Besides all that her attitude was very rushed, she didn’t take time to listen to me or my wife. We actually had a great conversation with the gentleman she was training when she had left. I would have preferred him to be our waiter. I am not someone who usually leaves reviews but this needed to be said. Do better Manchego!
